Worst Issue with the Note - WiFi - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Guys,
Don't know if I'm the only person with this problem but its irritating me more ever day and making me hate this marvellous device.
I have three wifi access points in my house connected to the same switch, long house with 3-4' thick granite walls so need this to get coverage.
Whenever I connect to wifi and move to a stronger wifi area on the same network the phone insists on staying connected to the weaker signal even if there are 'no bars' and hardly any signal strength.
I'm guessing this is making the radio work harder hence lowering battery life, plus reducing data speeds; why doesn't it automatically switch to the stronger signal like my blackberry does?

Get wifi jumper from play. Thank me as well.

There are also Best WiFi and WiFi Switcher on Play.

Nice to know! I am planning to add an access point due to weak coverage in some areas of the house. This thread sure saved me couple of hours of my life
@OP did you use lan cables between the access points? Did you use ddwrt/openwrt to implement it or did you buy those wireless range extender things?
Cheers!

I cabled mine, and am glad I did. Used 3 Ubiquity routers, the two distant cabled to the main router (cabled to the dsl gateway). All use the same ssid and security settings, so moving equipment from area to area is almost seamless and setup of other equipment is the same wherever in the house it is. Good luck!

As previous posters reply, I'd also advice using a gigabit switch, min cat 5e cable and wiring all 'static' locations on your network!
I'm using a HP Procurve 16 port 100/1000 switch and highly recommend it for the price, my access points are only cheap TP Link ones but they do the job and still allow me to stream 1080p HD video!

Cheers for the app recommendations guys!

Ok finally setup my network. Router + AP wired between them. Both have same SSID and security settings, what differs is the channels.
I found that wifi jumper can't jump between the router and the access point unless i change AP's SSID which sucks. Emailed the dev, hope he takes care of it.
Also emailed the dev of Best Wifi and he informed me that he plans to include it in his next version.

Solutions to dead spots in office

I know I've seen a thread about an antenna that will help with dead spots in the office or home. I have no bars in my office and I NEED pandora!
Any ideas?
I don't use Pandora, but does it work on WiFi and if so, is WiFi an option for you?

No WiFi. I'm at work and if I step outside the building I have 4 bars.
I have seen a post here about buying a repeater or something like that for 15 bucks....
I've looked at repeaters and never found one less than about $150 that I would buy (which is why I don't have one yet). Most have mixed reviews so why bother? Maybe if you have no bars it'd be worth it.
If there is a homebrew solution I'd be interested in it.

There are VZW network extenders that can be found for under $100, but it does not give you data and you'd need to tap your companies broadband internet. So, it's pretty much a no go. Good luck with that...
Put your phone on a window still, run a 15' audio extension cord from your phone to desktop speakers... If extension cords can be routed to you.
I have posted about this in another thread....http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5536340&CatId=4977
It will boost my almost non existent signal at home to around -80 to -90dbm..

The current network extenders give you data. That is one of their new selling points. I got mine discounted for living in a "known trouble spot due to terrain". They give you 1x and EV bars, this has been the case for at least the ones sold during the past 4 or 5 months.
Yes, it will required a network connection... but it lets up to 6 people talk on their phones at a one time... so if your bosses could benefit from it as well....

Wireless router question

Ok so I'm moving to another place by myself and need to buy a router. The internet averages about 7-10mb/s here. My question..is there any reason to go with anything over a 150mb/s rated wireless router? Like say a netgear n150? I play ps3 online..watch "videos" etc...mainly does the fact that my internet connection is far less than what the router is rated at matter?

There's little reason to buy a router based on its rated speeds - 95% of the time, you will get MUCH higher wifi network speeds than the actual internet is... It's only of use if you are transferring files between two computers both on the wifi network.
The outside connection is the same speed regardless, but an 802.11n network should have a better range (and is faster).
Ahh ok..so I don't need to dish out for a high rated router since im not actually using the network part of it. Thanks.

Just because it says 150mbs on the box won't mean you will get that. Sure if you are standing next to the phone you will, but as soon as you start movign away it will DROP fast. on my home pc which is maybe 20 metres away it gets around 11-54mb.
on wireless G it would barely connect, i would go with N to be safe

[Q] wifi booster/ and or repeater suggestions?

So here's the deal, just moved into a new house and I get really poor data signal in my bathroom and wifi doesn't reach. How am I supposed to read stuff?? Lmao...
Anyways I'm wondering if anyone could help me out with some suggestions on a wifi repeater or booster. I get good signal in my room, but as soon as I go in my bathroom I'm lucky to get one bar. I don't think my router has support for additional antennas, it's from att u-verse. So I'm thinking more along the lines of a repeater. Doesn't have to be crazy fast or anything. Just looking for something I can use to read forums and news articles.
Just thought I would see what kind of suggestions I could get and what other people are using.
Thanks in advance!

Try buying a wireless access point same thing as a repeater and simple setup.

You could run a wireless bridge/repeater and see if your router is supported with DD-WRT perhaps, or just move the router to more center in the house.

Can't move the router. It has to stay in the living room because it runs the TV box lol.
Ya I'm thinking about finding a router I can flash to turn into a bridge. I've heard linksys are pretty good for that.

I've been looking at all options for my home ( I get 95dBm to 110dBm) I found a nice set up, the Wilson 841263 but it's not capable of boosting 4g. After contacting Wilson electronics (who were quick to respond and very helpful) I was informed that they have a new product coming out soon..the tri-band 4G-C model # 802770 that will boost 2/3/4G signals. With this model you can move about freely in your home and not be anchored to anything. The only bad part is I don't know what the cost will be.

That does sound nice. I ended up getting a belkin extender. Not exactly the most seamless solution but it works.

If you have an old android phone you may use fqrouter2 for rooted Android devices and you have a perfectly working WiFi Repeater (available free in Google Play Store)
You can buy a 30 dollar reapeater at Walmart. It is very low profile and just plugs into the wall.

You can buy an amplifier but they run for about 300.00 euros.
If your issue is the carrier, your gonna have to change it if your want more bars.
There is a post about this issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036059
Another solution is a carrier amplifier:
If your on T-mobile: http://t-mobilescoop.com/signalbooster
If your on AT&T: http://www.att.com/standalone/3gmicrocell/?fbid=_nOhLzaqTDI
Hope the info helps you out.
I've noticed the same thing with both my Nexus, our old phones didn't seem to lose signal as bad inside. I've wondered if I switched to a different modem would improve this.
hey
thanks for the fast response
actually im not from the united states so AT&T & Tmobile aren't quite gonna help me
anyways
I'm looking for something like these repeaters you gave but they're quite expensive and im doubtful my phone operator owns them.
plus they aren't gonna fix any reception in my area.
I've been wondering if there's a possible way to extend the antenna instead of the signal so the signal will be received better DIRECTLY into the phone without any other means such as repeaters (just like what you can do in WIFI networks , when you can connect a wireless network card with a long antenna).
Well in no way am I a communication specialist, but from what I remember higher frequencies (which are being used to broadcast data services) have a harder time getting thru walls and such. Voice communication are broadcasted on lower frequencies so theoretically they have a deeper penetration (lol) in the buildings. Try in the wireless&network settings navigate to mobile network and choose use only 2g network. It could help if you live relatively close to a tower. The downside is that you lose high speed data connection but if you're home then you're probably on wifi anyway. Now this is only theoretical and there are a number of things that come into play when we talk about cell phone reception, this being one of many. Try, it might help you a bit but that's not a guarantee.

My whole house is a dead zone with a weak signal outside as well ( 95 dBm / 8 asu ) I bit the bullet and purchased a Wilson signal booster model 841263 with directional antenna. It was expensive but it worked! I can now use my phone anywhere in my home with up to 67 dBm at best, funny thing is that I have an old lg p500 and the signal is WAY better than my nexus4..go figure! They wanted 660$ Canadian at the telus store but I got mine from amazon for 357$

Extenders

I've have a note 3 and it has always had a low signal. I've heard of people talking about using extenders but have never seen one or talked to anyone that had one. My question is what is the situation where this is called for and how does it hook up. My note seldom gets at 4g signal in the house most of the time it's a low 3g signal with some dropped calls. My s4 basically does the same but my old moto RAZR mass and all lucid both get a descent 4g signal. Would a extender solve this problem? Of so how do I go about getting one. Thanks. Jesse

I have the same problem as what you have and the tiered 2 tech support sent me a network extender router for test then it was epic failure for my area as it wasn't working very well in my area.
It depends on your area but it is not free and I returned the network extender router back to the Verizon.
No charge under 14 days.
Good luck ?
That's what u heard was you had to buy the things and if they worked it was minimal at best. I think I keep as I am for now because it is usable not quite the reception ithought I would get for a 700 dollar phone

The network extender is a nano cell site. You plug into your home network and that's how you get signal. I don't know about the new ones, but the older ones had to be connected by a network cable to your router. If you have lousy home internet service....the extender will only be "good" for phone calls, not data.
Sent from my Note 3 via Tapatalk
The reception in our home is poor, for all devices. We had the original Network Extender, and now the 3G Network Extender, and for us, it works quite well.
It has an ethernet connection to our Router, and generates a cell signal. Calls then go through the internet connection. As pointed out above, it's for calls only. It will have no impact on your 4G signal. But if you're at home, and have an internet connection, then presumably you'd have WiFi and wouldn't need your cell signal for data.
Without the extender we had very frequent missed or dropped calls. It made us reluctant to even use the phones at home. With it, there is rarely a dropped or missed call. Works for us.
As for cost, I was able to give me a significant discount (50% or so) when I indicated that I wouldn't be able to continue with Verizon because their signal is so poor in our home. Could possibly get it for free if pushed; some have.
