i know that all of the ics roms have had this problem for awhile but some people are saying theres a fix by flashing a certain kernal? i'm currently using the new icecoldsandwich rom on its latest build. it helped the mic issue slightly from its previous build according to my gf but its still frustrating to deal with phone calls. any help would be appreciated
zipsnet seems to have it fixed in his current rom release

Hey guys... Yesterday I upgraded the baseband to 2.15 from the original stock 1.0 I was running one of the CM nightly builds and also did the unrevoked forever root method to install it. After I did that I installed CM6 RC3 and later I realized I cannot hear out of the headset while making a call or receiving. So I then installed Skyraider and I still get the same thing. I can turn on speaker phone or connect to bluetooth and it works fine... but nothing through the handset.
Today I reverted to an old backup to see if that would help/work and still nothing. I guess my questions are can I fix this? Or do I have to downgrade to 1.0 baseband again and is that even possible?
Any help would be great, just a little annoying having to talk on speaker phone.
You have to revert to 1.0 radio. This happened to a few of us, it seems fairly isolated my replacement will be in tomorrow so I will know soon just how isolated.
I see.... well that sucks...
What did you say to get a replacement sent to you? Because obviously saying that I updated the baseband probably won't go over too smoothly.
Hello XDA Gurus,
I am running Bionix-V 1.2 TW kernel 2.6.32.9 Baseband version T959UVKA5
I have applied the AOSP update as well as the ThinkDroid and WifiCalling updates.
I seem to be having problems with the call quality, I can hear fine but anyone i talk to says I sound very muffled, this is without the headset or Bluetooth...with the headset I hear echoes of my end of the conversation....
Any one have any ideas on what I can change to try to remedy this? Should I try a different radio or modem? I am pretty happy with this ROM, but not averse to putting a new one on .. Thanks very much for any suggestions

I went through the same thing before, not sure which rom, flashed so many, but I can say this, "The main feature on your device is Calling, and if thats not working properly than everything else doesnt matter cuz at the end of the day you'll still have a crappy phone" def try something different and address the issue with the devlpr and hopefully that gets fixed and you can flash the same rom again. Just my opinion
try flashing different modem. KA5 is the worst in terms of voice quality for me. I use KA7 or JK6 modem.
just put on the new gingerbread and everything is awesome but I have difficulties hearing the person who calls me and the person who calls me hears an echo. Please help
Which rom are you referring to exactly? Have you tried asking this in the rom's thread?
Sent from my HTC Inspire
I have same problem
Let me tell you first that your problem has nothing to do with Gingerbread.
It all depends on which build you are using, which version of kernel, and which version of radio.
The "robotic" voice, the echoes, and low volume problems are very common, and the solutions can be found in the thread relative to your build.
After my previous bug issues with ICI I tried downloading v3.11 hoping it would not have the same problem. Only this time it's worse - my headphone mic doesn't work at all! I use the stock Samsung Galaxy S2 headphones on my MT4G and they have worked like a charm until these ICS ROMs. Has anyone else had this problem? I am going to revert back to a Gingerbread ROM until newer versions are released that will hopefully address headphone issues.

First, have you tried the newest mic fix?
No. If that's a separate file, I must have missed it.

It appears that the update from last night includes the low mic fix.
The mic fix fixed the same problem for me, however it seems that it has trouble. Every song starts ridiculously loud.
I recently installed CM 10.1 on a Defy+.
For some reason - if I call someone (or they call me) - they cannot hear me, and I cannot hear them. Even if I put on the loudspeaker I still cannot hear them.
Phone is working normal apart from that, speaker seems to work fine so not convinced it is a hardware issue.
Only happened after flashing the ROM. It *was* working for some time. Any ideas what could have caused this? From reading about CM on other phones, people recommend flashing different kernels. Any ideas which kernel to flash?
Thanks.
Ok looks like this is an issue with BlueTooth being on. I turned it off and it worked fine.
Seems to be an issue with all CM 10.x that I was unaware of. I flashed this ROM on my wifes Defy+ to improve the speed and reliabilty of her phone. Needless to say she is not happy.
Maybe I should have flashed 7.2??

I guess 7.2 is good and stable enough for a non power user. That bug is known and it's not yet fixed.
Like @hotdog125 said, it's a known bug, and happens sometimes even when bluetooth is not used at all. I never use bluetooth and it happens to me quite often; rebooting your phone fixes the problem.
