CM9 based Bluetooth address conflict - Epic 4G General

Hey everyone just trying to see how many cm9 devices have the generic mac address for bt, which is 43:29:b0:00:00:00. this also wont let you pair BT on like devices it will show up as a DUN profile, anyone have this issue?
EDIT: IF anyone can please help us get the issue noticed a little bit faster by commenting on it.
www.code.google.com/p/epiccm/issues...Milestone Owner Summary&groupby=&sort=&id=225

Mac addresses are hardware related. Software doesn't determine it. Not sure where you're going with this, its either useless or malicious

lmao no not malicious. considering the huge database of mac addresses for manufautures out on the web. I was asking because I have 2 epics that wont pair because the mac address are the same on both devices. BT works fine whenpairing other devices but not two of the same. esbecially with same build names, etc. they are hardware related though youre right, BUT when there isnt a certain path that directs to the driver to read the bluetooth chip the system software will use a default value, which Is the issue im running into with cm9. and cm7. havent flashed a cleean gb yet but probably willl try later today

Yep. I have the same one... weird.

I've been looking and noticed it's across multiple devices, even tablets. Very odd and the only solution so far that I know of is using the bdaddr and hciconfig(?) in terminal emulator. The changes dont stick past a reboot though. If there is anyone who wants to try it on a stock gb rom and report back thatd be great.
Open Terminal Emulator then type the following list below
su
bdaddr [new bluetooth address] && hciconfig hci0 reset

I believe this only works with cm7 and earlier gb roms. Correct me if I am wrong.

This is crappy, I don't Bluetooth to my wife's phone very often but I guess I won't be at all.

Lol and then she wonders why you have her phone for 3 hours and you tell her youre trying to fix bluetooth!(same here )
i posted a bug ticket in the OP if anyone should have the same bt address it definantly should be addressed.

I think this is a Cyanogenmod thing, because my phone always has one mac on either CM rom, and a different one on stock roms. I think my CM mac is the same as the one listed in the OP.
The commands mentioned above could be made to reapply on boot with a startup script, perhaps in init.d (the best option that I'm aware of, but I'm not as familiar with linux-style startup scrips)

Ill try this in the morning and get back to everyone. Ill see if someone can get a flashable or something up. Thanks for the idea.
EDIT: no luck the only workaround I see is use a stock ROM. And the cwm temp boot won't work as well. Lol
I wonder why cm wont look at the hardware drivers, besides the mac address is built into the card. hmm

This is an issue with our Epic CM Port.
1. It is not responsible for any issues you might be having with bluetooth.
2. Fixing it just requires mounting our EFS and reading the bdaddr entry for the MAC address like the other Galaxy S ports do.
The generic MAC address you see is an Android default one.

I posted a fix to this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598529

EDIT: DM servers were just acting up, no update available yet.
Run a logcat and get the url
how far through the process do i need to go to get the url?
PM the devs so they can help you run a logcat if you dont know how. Are you on Stock Vibrant or you running a custom rom? And did you already get the JI6 update?

I can run the logcat. I'm basically stock JI6, stock kernel, rooted, few misc mods. Do I need to go through with the update to get the info out of the logcat?
once the download starts run logcat and keep your eye open for the url address
Id suggest going with BigRick10's advice i really dont know nothing about logcatting.

Something is up with the DM server tonight. I am doing the trick with LauncherPro where you make the shortcut to the Device Management link to manually try to push OTAs, and the DM server tries to connect for about 5-10 minutes before it times out. Usually it just returns a result of no update for me immediately.
There might be something to this
Yeah I definitely went ahead and accepted the update, phone rebooted twice, and seems to be exactly the same as before. This may be nothing
Go into your settings into About Phone and tell us the firmware/baseband version

Maybe they were just testing their servers
What's this launcher pro trick you said

I wish I could remember exactly what I did or where to find it. It's buried in one of the older JI6 OTA threads.
Basically you have LauncherPro selected, long tap on home screen, and select "Activities". It's one of the many things listed in there (can't remember which one), but it makes a link on your home screen that pulls you into the DM menu where you can manually try to connect to the server.
Ill look into it thanks

Motorola Field Utils

So has anyone used this app since the 3.2 update? From what I can see, it has more capabilities to available then I seem to remember from before(though I could be wrong) and the sim slot can read sim cards now(at least it read my T-Mobile sim card). I did change my network in the settings to GSM/UTMS/EvDO/CDMA and in the phone information test area it now says GSM/CDMA Auto PRL just like my Nexus S does on T-Mobile, even after rebooting. Sadly I don't know if this even matters, or if all the changeable settings would allow the use of GSM. Nor do I know enough to attempt to make this work. Just thought I'd share my "findings", and if they are in fact useless I'm sorry for wasting peoples time.

Hold the volume up and down buttons as you turn the xoom on. You will see cold booting linux in the top left of the screen, followed by,more text like LTE off. Once the xoom is finished booting, in the app drawer there will be a Field Utils app with the Motorola logo. The codes will be 000000
I guess I'm really wondering if we can unlocked this device like we can phones.

Yeah i saw this in the app list but never knew what it was. Cant do anything with it and dont see the apk in the usual directories. Dont think wifi only version would be able to get the cell network working as type hardware for it should be missing. Maybe there is hardware somewhere and maybe some day there may be guide how to install it and get it working.

GPS Issue, Try This!

For some reasons, people are still asking for GPS solution. I hope creating this thread will help some people.
To begin, you need any root file explorer like (ES File) and AgnryGPS apps.
Next, you need to modify the Build.prop in the [/system/] folder. Watch this video by reverendkjr
Look in the Build.prop and find the following code to modify. If the line is missing, add that line to the Build.prop file.

Ok, I have to ask... Why the 2G only?
Usually, I don't ask why, but will it works.
Since you asked why, I may say because it works lolz
Actually, someone said that when you select 2g or edge only, your phone will not switch between between network type, which gives your phone more stable data connection. To find out, test it yourself. I have tried many times already, the 2g is always giving me a lock.

Understood. I can't see me dropping to 2G, which was why I balked at it. With the amount of data I consume, I can't trade high speed for GPS. Sorry. Guess I was mostly curious because it can work fine in one rom, and not at all in others. Then there are some rom's I've had where I had to disable assisted gps, then gps would work fine... although general location until GPS locks doesn't work at all, and the battery life in that scenario was bad.
I shall continue to wait until I hit the right rom again.
Thanks for the help, though.

[Q] Cannot solve my Wifi problem.

Long story short, I installed windows 8 and since then my computer will not detect my router. Ive turned it on and off several times and nothing. I read something about having the correct drivers but I cant find the darn things anywhere and there is little to no simple info explaining how to fix this.
I tried the search bar but the damn thing wont work on my kindle. Someone please help me out. I have the 64 bit version. Ill provide any other info that might help.

I found this by searching for system information and scrolling down to the Components tab and going Components > Network > Adapter
Here is the computer I have: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba...lver/4684487.p?id=1218508069136&skuId=4684487

Anyone had any luck with this? I can't find the file that OMJ is talking about to save my life. I don't see any attachments.
I've tried editing my build.prop and I've tried editing the default xml to change the rules and enforcement to 0.
The latter DID let the hotspot start for me. Other devices can connect. But they never get network connectivity.
Can anyone help me confirm what I'm missing?

I can't get it to work on mine! I've achieved root, installed the app, matched all the settings up....no internet connection. It's strange, my Ipad can see the network and it says it's connected. As soon as I connect it though I lose internet connection on both devices, can't load a single web page. Did you have this issue at all or would you have any idea what would cause this? HAH. I couldn't get it to work with this app (not initially anyway). I turned to his site to check if there were settings already available to use for the HTC 10 because it couldn't auto-detect the wifi adapter name. On his site, it says HTC users need to uninstall "TetherGuard" - system app.
Did that, figured I'd reboot and try the built in tethering which now works beautifully. Got it still within my refund window for Wifi Tether Router.
So some combination of what I posted above plus UNINSTALL TETHERGUARD! And life's good now. Thanks much.

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall TetherGuard since you're rooted, instead of just disabling it.
Anyone want to post the specific changes/tweaks they've done? I've done changes to build.prop and default.xml (using the various settings found all over XDA) and also disabled/removed TetherGuard, but I'm still stuck at hotspot enabling but no data connection for any connected devices (data still works for the phone while hotspot is on though).
