For some reasons, people are still asking for GPS solution. I hope creating this thread will help some people.
To begin, you need any root file explorer like (ES File) and AgnryGPS apps.
Next, you need to modify the Build.prop in the [/system/] folder. Watch this video by reverendkjr

AngryGPS is for GB / ICS ROMs only. Someone may be able to upload one here.
Also to the OP:
Does this work for GB and ICS ROMs? What did you test it on?

Here is the app I took out from another rom http://www.multiupload.com/ASDEG64KRV

I didn't have a chance to test this on GB yet. This one is working great with ICS Passion ROM Nelson Kernel. I'm sure about other ICS and kernel.

while my GPS was working well again, it was still subject to the deep sleep bug in ICS. Rebooted and it worked again, but I really didn't expect the build prop to fix that requirement.

Did you modify the build.prop as I indicated in the op. Secondly, make sure to replace the GPS property. And last, use 2G Network Only.

Ok, I have to ask... Why the 2G only?

Usually, I don't ask why, but will it works.
Since you asked why, I may say because it works lolz
Actually, someone said that when you select 2g or edge only, your phone will not switch between between network type, which gives your phone more stable data connection. To find out, test it yourself. I have tried many times already, the 2g is always giving me a lock.

Understood. I can't see me dropping to 2G, which was why I balked at it. With the amount of data I consume, I can't trade high speed for GPS. Sorry. Guess I was mostly curious because it can work fine in one rom, and not at all in others. Then there are some rom's I've had where I had to disable assisted gps, then gps would work fine... although general location until GPS locks doesn't work at all, and the battery life in that scenario was bad.
I shall continue to wait until I hit the right rom again.
Thanks for the help, though.

No, pretty sure it just tells GPS where to look first, then if it doesn't find you there it looks elsewhere. It may just take an extra few seconds, but I think it basically gives it a starting point.

I have same issue. With about all custom ROM/kernel combos I get location errors or my sense clock widget tells me I'm in Philadelphia when I am in Kansas, unless I simply turn WiFi on. Not connected, just on. If I turn it on and my location works....
Worked great for me, GPS was always taking several minutes to find me, but after this it locked on in about 10 seconds.
Thanks!

My GPS issues appear to have been weather related. Worked fine today.
Wow fast lock!
No difference for me. Mine locks instantly with or without the mod.
I have a problem where if I haven't rebooted the phone for a couple days, the GPS doesn't locate me in Maps, Zillow, etc. Launch Maps or Zillow, it will just sit there with the big blue shaded circle with the center no where near me, and the GPS icon flashing... or Navigation saying "searching for GPS" when trying to get directions..
Power off/on... GPS finds me quick.
Will this mod fix that?
Another quick fix for GPS that I've found is GPS Status. Download GPS Status from the Market, click menu->Tools=>Manage A-GPS state->Download. It just makes sure you have the latest Assisted GPS data from the web.

[HOW TO] fix GPS Problem with custom ROM's!!

Hey everybody,
Just wanted to let you guys know that I was messing around with the GPS setting trying to get my location to be correct on the first try with Google Maps. After tinkering, I found that if I unchecked the Google location Services box in menu>settings>location my location was read almost instantly and accurately! Bidding me farewell to Google Maps saying I was 50 miles away from where I really was.
Hope this helps for everyone, I know it did for some friends.
Let me know if it works, and good luck!
Cool. My Google maps tracked exactly where I was. Even the corner of the intersection(where is my house is located on the street)
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I installed the zip file, after it took about a minute to lock on, and after it locks almost instantly. Is this normal to take so long first time locking on?
If you are using a custom ROM then yes it is. I know that from my experience, even after installing the zip I was getting a little lag and even getting the wrong location for about 3 second then it would lock on correctly. Doing what is mentioned in the original post fixed that problem for me entirely. Hope this answers your question!

I think what we are seeing here is that the gps is not using agps at all. Proper operation would be the agps actually assisting the quicker lock. Instead the agps and gps are working separately and by disabling agps....the locks should still be slow no matter what.
It is for me anyway.
That said, standalone gps will always be more accurate.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Funny thing is, standalone how isn't even working, since when you turn off Google location services it shuts off completely. Also for me it seems to be attached to WiFi so if its off it says I'm within a 2 mile wide area...

(Q) How to keep gps always on (even if user disable it manually)

How could i keep GPS turn ON even if the user disable it manually?
Any trick or ideas? Could be for any device, rooted , busybox, etc.
I just need an idea of how i could keep the gps always on. It is for tracking purpose of employees. Sometimes they turn location off manually, and i could not monitor their location.
Any apk or application ready for this? Please PM me or post below. Any trick is ok, xpose modifications, rooted modifications, etc, but it must work, thats the idea.

You could create a service with a BroadcastReceiver which listens for any change in the GPS setting and then re-enables the GPS. That could work without root though I'm not sure if such a Broadcast exists.
The other option would be to use xposed and hook the method which sets the GPS in the settings.

You could create a service with a BroadcastReceiver which listens for any change in the GPS setting and then re-enables the GPS. That could work without root though I'm not sure if such a Broadcast exists.

Thanks for your reply.
Is there any developper here that could do this apk for me? or the xposed module to do this? (obviously paid development).
PM me so we get in contact.

Excellent, you could contact me by PM to arrange the development and the payment.
Remember that the idea is to have gps always on. Even if the user manually unclick it on the menu bar, it is reactivated again internally.

Is there a hotspot hack for the 10 yet?
Check out bad boys rom

I'm looking for a stock Rom with hotspot unlocked or a tether app that works. Ideas?

I'd be interested in a hotspot flashable add-on as well. At least until GPS is up and running on BB rom. Thanks OMJ

Appreciate the work OMJ. I never installed the hotspot hack because I went straight to your badboyz rom instead.
so 10 peole that downloaded, did it work? lol geez thanks OMJ for those who didnt tell you
If you want to continue to use stock room, and need hot spot, there is a trick using the app shortcut master from the market where you just have to edit 1 line . It works on LG g2 and g3 (I used it). If anyone wants to try, I'll look for a link to the directions.

Could you post directions for this.
This may be what he is talking about. Used it also on my LG G2.
Have not tested on HTC 10 though.

Good work. That is exactly what I was referring to. Thank you. I hadn't seen the request. I have no idea if it would work on HTC 10. But, it doesn't seem like a huge stretch that it would.

No good. Those values don't show up in shortcut master.
Anyone had any luck with this? I can't find the file that OMJ is talking about to save my life. I don't see any attachments.
I've tried editing my build.prop and I've tried editing the default xml to change the rules and enforcement to 0.
The latter DID let the hotspot start for me. Other devices can connect. But they never get network connectivity.
Can anyone help me confirm what I'm missing?
Fabio Grasso's WiFi Tether app works for me on the 10.

I can't get it to work on mine! I've achieved root, installed the app, matched all the settings up....no internet connection. It's strange, my Ipad can see the network and it says it's connected. As soon as I connect it though I lose internet connection on both devices, can't load a single web page. Did you have this issue at all or would you have any idea what would cause this? I'm at my wits end with it, and I've used this app for 2 years on my M8.

HAH. I couldn't get it to work with this app (not initially anyway). I turned to his site to check if there were settings already available to use for the HTC 10 because it couldn't auto-detect the wifi adapter name. On his site, it says HTC users need to uninstall "TetherGuard" - system app.
Did that, figured I'd reboot and try the built in tethering which now works beautifully. Got it still within my refund window for Wifi Tether Router.
So some combination of what I posted above plus UNINSTALL TETHERGUARD! And life's good now. Thanks much.

It didn't give me the option to uninstall, just disable. I did that and tweaked with a few more things and that seemed to fix it. Fingers crossed!

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall TetherGuard since you're rooted, instead of just disabling it.
Anyone want to post the specific changes/tweaks they've done? I've done changes to build.prop and default.xml (using the various settings found all over XDA) and also disabled/removed TetherGuard, but I'm still stuck at hotspot enabling but no data connection for any connected devices (data still works for the phone while hotspot is on though).

The apns have to be modified, we used to edit the database manually, but now edit in framework-res, I'll post a zip later.
