[UPDATED 03/22/2012]
I've noticed in almost all of the Rom threads for the Evo4g that they haven't been updated lately or the download links aren't working anymore. Which leads to a couple of questions. [Now with Answers!]
What is the status on Gingerbread EVO4G development?
Answer: Apparently the EVO4G is still under some pretty good development. Maybe not as hardcore as it used to be when it first came out but that's to be expected with Ice Cream Sandwich taking most of the attention. The root method as of 03/18/2012 is the Revolutionary tool. This tool will work for the EVO with hboot versions up to 2.15.0001 and 2.16.0001.
What [STABLE] roms, both AOSP and Sense, are currently still being updated and developed?
*AOSP
- CyanogenMod 7.2 (Released 03/18/2012) YouTube Link
- Alternative CyanogenMod Nightlies (by xjackofall)
*Sense
- Stock BareBones (by misery in motion)
- Synergy (Hasn't been updated in a while and this is an alternative link from the OP [Original Post] but a good ROM for sure.)
- Sprint Updated Series (by brad560)
What's the official status of CyanogenMod 7? Why no nightlies?
Answer: (by jelive) They are concentrating on CM9 ICS so no nightly CM7 GB action. Everything is kangs to bring us to CM7.2 which this OP and couple others (see link for Euroskank in earlier post) compile themselves from latest GB commits-updates.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23735841&postcount=455
Where can I find the latest and greatest Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions?
Answer: Calkulin has a thread that lists all of these. Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7027238&postcount=1
What is the latest way to Root my EVO?
Answer: Revolutionary tool is the latest way to root. It's available at http://www.revolutionary.io. I've created a "How To" video using this method here: YouTube LINK.
* The ROMs listed above are the most basic answers. Of course there are many more ROMs to choose from and you can easily find them just by going to the main 'Development' section of the EVO forums.
Development has certainly not stopped. Slowed down? Perhaps. But lately there has been alot of activity with ice cream sandwich that other roms haven't been gettin updated. Or source hasnt been released so progress on roms have yielded. Time is of essence as well so please just be patient. Work will slowly jumpstart again. The EVO is an awesome phone

Sense Devs are rocking!. Team Revolation is cranking out ROMS, Aamikam just updated 3.0 MikG, and Diablo67 updated Koni's Elite. Plus Tommy updated Classic. If anything, Evo Sense development is enjoying a renaissance. Hope the OG Epic sees that on the Touchwiz side.

I think you did research properly. Look around and you find a lot of roms that were apdated recently. Sense 1.0 tommytomatoe, swagstr, gruesomewolf, Diablo, NoLiMiT and much more. Sense 2.1 mikg. Sense 3.0 gruesomewolf's shooter and OD 's express. Sense 3.5 energy. Maybe you should post it in general section.

MikG just updated to 3.11
Swiper just dropped a fantastic MIUI ICS rom last night.
Swag is keeping stock Sense rolling.
Deck just dropped a new ICS CM rom.
Lots of great CM7.2 action going on. Kwiq 7.2 is awesome.
EVO has so much going on right now.
Can't leave out Team Nocturnal and all the other great devs.
Too many to list.
I have 5 current roms in solid rotation going all the time.
Love Boot Manager because there is actually so many great new roms it isn't right to just run one.

So I would like the latest and greatest, but seems like so many roms being released in dev forum are missing a lot of functionality or broken. The only rom that I ever kept and still am using is called "Koni's Elite" something. Is there a sense 3 rom that has gps,4g,sprint hotspot, gapps etc etc all working? Why do people even release broken stuff in the first place.

The Elite 3 is sweet he is coming out with a Elite 4 be4 long. The latest rom's aren't really broken they are built off the latest OTA leak and some other leaks. So it's all for eye candy and something new for people to mess with.
Until sprint does the OTA update the latest roms that are built off leaks are buggy. They are waiting on sprints OTA to get all the info and fix all the bugs that are in the builds so until then they are just working with what they have.
Try kings rom or CM7 there nice. The Devs do what people wanna have and see and have. They want more eye candy something new even if it's broken or buggy. So there working pretty hard to keep things going.
No there is no sense 3.0 that is out or anything that is built off it that isn't bug free yet.
Hope this helps PM me if you want to know of some other roms that not buggy and are nice.
CM7 is all you need...........
CM7 is great to use waiting till they fix most of the bugs or till the next stable build comes out. If you use CM7 keep it update they had to fix a security issue with the older builds. This is a sweet rom tho. Nice clean.
King's rom out of this world is fast decent battery life.
Virus rom's are nice.
Look in the Dev's list wiki.
Myn's Warm Point 2.2 is sweet
Mik's Rom is fast and looks great.

Go back to stock and stop taking up space in the general forum with questions which should be in the Q&A forum.
Really? These people put in their free time without pay DEVELOPING rom's to work on our phones. That is why it is called development. They release it to us "broken" so we can test it and help them in the development, and because it is fun for us. If it is that much of an inconvenience for you then either don't flash it or develop a ROM yourself that is bug free. These guys work around the clock to try to bring you the latest ROM/leak free of bugs. It is not as easy as you might think.
Lol there are still good roms out there im happy we get to test things without having to pay a big ass feee to try. Since it's free and you can edit it makes it a playground for good stuff to happen oh yea
CM7 is the latest and greatest (AOSP) and is fully functional minus 720p recording.

Thanks. I've done a couple of basic Evo roms, but I really don't have too much free time on my hands these days. I have two little kids at home, and working full time, plus 2 part time jobs to pay the bills. It's expensive to pay rent and support a family here in California -- super expensive!
Sorry folks, I know this is in the wrong spot but I can't post in the development section yet. However, is anyone using the virus and myn hybrid? I got to download it last night and flashed it. Very smooth Rom. Just wondering what is up with the synergy updater app. It just fails after a minute.

The rom is still in Alpha stage at the moment. It's not even been announced as official beta. Things may not be working 100% yet (although the ROM is extremely stable for me) As the ROM gets closer to beta, and then closer to official release, I'm positive that everything on the ROM will work 100% As of now though, it's still being built, and changes are being made on a day to day basis. on that note, I didn't play around with Synergy updater yet, so can't comment on it. Just remember that the rom isn't even a beta yet.

where can i even download this. i've heard about it but cant find a link anywhere...
I'd like more info on synergy as well.
But to my knowledge, its in alpha, and is only in the hands of the testers (supporters of virus/myn)
The best way to get in on the beta testing is to send Myn a PM and ask him. He's a nice guy Just remember, that it's released to beta testers to TEST and find and work out any bugs. That needs to be taken into account. There can be bugs of sorts in beta builds, but that's the point of the testers. Report the bugs to the developers so they can be fixed. When all of the bugs have been fixed and Myn and Co. feel the ROM is beyond rock solid, then he'll release the rom as a stable RLS1.
So, basically I just say, remember that beta testing is just that. You didn't get a final build before everyone else. Just a matter of helping the developer work out all the kinks and get everything perfect before release.
At least that's just my opinion on how the beta works.
I just pm'd myn so here's crossing my fingers.
If I had the time I'd be down for it.
I'm more interested in details about it, as I've heard everything, but know nothing.
Any screenshots, changelogs, details etc out there from the source?
I'm also interested in seeing some info/screencaps/etc. Out of the two dozen or so roms I've flashed, I keep coming back to Myn's, as it is insanely stable, has great battery life and is super smooth.
Can't wait for a downloadable package, Myn. Keep up the great work!

So a while back I started using cyanogen 7 and liked it for the most part. But I started to miss HTC's sense. That was one of the main reasons I went with an evo and not an epic. So now I am looking for a Rom that has both Android 2.3 and the look and feel of the new HTC sense. Preferred something under a stable release. Is there a dev out there that has something like that released. I start work in like 15 mins and would like to be able to just roll home and reflash.

So I take it that CM9 will not be officially released for the Glacier correct? The only alternatives are the kangs that other developers grab and tweak for use on our device correct? The development section seems to be a swirling mass of ports and <insert name here>'s ICS.
How do we sort through this?
What is everyone's recommendation for a ROM nowadays.
Is ICS just a fabled dream for this unit?
Would I be better to stick with the latest CM7 nightly instead?
What do you think?
We have devs working on cm9 right now, check dev section.

Have you tried Zipps Creamed Glacier? This is a serious piece of ics work. I've tried others including cm9 which I enjoyed but has bugs and creamed glacier is the best of all for me. Hardly any issues, smooth as silk and regular updated. Give it a try.
+1 to trofmoc. Last week, I installed zips creamed glacier (he took over and built his own creamed glacier), and it was really stable. 3.10 had a couple bugs which were fixed in 3.11 today. Good stuff.
ICS for Glacier (MT4G)
I'm a total n00b when it comes to ROMs but my phone was almost bricked by Sense until I rooted it and began having lots of fun with mods.
There's an alpha for CM9, but I've flashed Creamed Glacier (Zipsnet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555574) which was really good and was about to try IceColdSandwich by blackwing182 (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551456) when I saw a cool hybrid of the two that has been working really well. It was put together by I2IEAILiiTY but he's pulled the dl down due to some "drama." I have the .zip file, but I don't want to cause trouble by posting it. Here's his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563576.

Thanks for the suggestions people. I tried creamed glacier I think a couple months ago I wanna say and it was highly experimental at the time. I like cutting edge, but extreme cutting edge as in the camera doesn't work, wifi doesn't work, etc....is just too hardcore for me. I'm going to give Zips a shot and see how it is now.
BTW I didn't mean to sound whiny about the large amounts of stuff in the dev section, it can just be overwhelming sometimes to sort through whos working on what and where it came from you know. What stage of dev it is in, etc. We almost need some sort of trending mechanism to XDA, unless of course there already is one and I don't know about it.
I don't think you sounded whiney. It sucks when the manufacturer and carrier basically drop development for a relatively new device. I totally feel your pain.
As far as ICS on the Glacier goes, I think we're stuck with alpha and beta releases for now. The devs I referenced have been great with new releases and fixes tho. I was using royal ginger, which was good, but I'm loving the hybrid I mentioned and so far no camera bugs. I had a market free app purchasing prob but signing out of Google and back in fixed it (props to dev for that fix). I say give it a try after backing up your rom. You can always go back.
Btw, miui is working on an ICS release. I might try it.
I'm loving AOSP ICS however and Apex launcher.

Hi everyone, I apologize ahead of time if these questions are redundant and can be found in different forums. I recently received a MyTouch 4G from T-Mobile as a replacement for my wife's lost Samsung Galaxy S 4G and am trying to set up a stable system for her.
I've already downgraded, rooted, and installed a custom ROM (currently CM7 7.2.0 RC1) but wanted to ask a few questions.
1) ROM recommendation? Rock-Solid ROM with non-buggy WiFi calling is a must since we have poor reception at home. I imagine that a ROM based off of an official T-Mobile base for the Glacier would be best but I'm not sure.
1a) For such a ROM, is there a preferred standout kernel?
2) Is there any hope for ICS roms to gain solid WiFi Calling capability?
3) Out of curiosity, why are there so many ROM ports? Are they just as stable and functional as one specifically for the Glacier?
Thanks a lot for your answers! I know it's very subjective but I'm hoping to get some good feedback so I don't have to keep deleting her data as I try out different things
Virtuous Unity is an oldie but goodie and everything works. Use the kernel it comes with.
There is always hope for any feature. Wifi calling will work well on ICS eventually. Give it time.
There are many very good roms for other phones that port well. The MyTouch 4G has two "sister" phones that share the same SoC and port easily. Why build a whole new ROM when you can port? Also, keep in mind that a non-ported ROM has to be compiled from source which, for the most parrt, limits you to AOSP, AOKP and CyanogenMod. We have lots of that. Any sense ROM that isn't based off of a glacier/panache build is going to be a port, as well as MIUI.
Edit: I almost forgot. Android Revolution HD is right up there with VU in functionality and is still supported. There is a camcorder fc, but a fix can be found in the thread. Doubleshot cam and 720p setting, as I recall.
Android Revolution HD
Best. ROM. Available.
yeah virtuous is good too, but ARHD is so much faster

I used to have an HTC Sensation (which my 1-year old son tragically dropped into a cup of joe) and ARHD was definitely one of the most stable and popular ROMs.
However, because of his commitment to a stock experience I had to flash several add-ons to get desirable tweaks (battery%, ultra-smooth rosie, extended quick-settings, custom power-button settings).. are these also available for the Glacier version? (I read the thread and it seemed like the latest version does not have these yet?)
Thanks again!
ps. Is it best to keep the kernel that comes with it?
flash rc tweaks. There is a link in that thread somewhere. Also, that kernel is really good. If you don't like it you could try thederekjay's sense kernel, but I doubt you will need to change.
The ROM called LeeDroid is good too, I've been using it for several weeks, no problems.

Thanks!
I installed ARHD 7.0.3 with RC Tweaks and it's been pretty darn amazing. Everything works (so far) and fast!
Thanks again for not letting me flounder around.. very much appreciated!
The real test is whether or not SHE likes it.
Haha.
I'm using CM7.2 RC1 along with thederekjay's Darkside Kernel and i have absolutely no problems and beyond excellent batt. life.

Call me blasphemous but Sense feels a lot smoother than CM.. have you seen how smoothly the screen transitions ? It also looks more polished IMO.
Having said that, is there any way to adjust the haptic feedback level on ARHD? It's too strong for my liking.. tried to search but didn't turnip anything.
