(WTF) Phone won't power down - EVO Shift 4G General

So, due to teamwin dropping twrp I flashed CWM Touch via rom manager (I did it twice, just to make sure it wasn't a bad flash or whatever happened) and when I try to shut down the phone, it just boots into recovery. Even after pulling the battery, once the battery is back in... recovery it is. It seems like it only does this when the phone is plugged in. But wtf is this? Lol, not hurting anything but annoying

Format /system, /cache, wipe dalvik and reflash your ROM. Once you do that download ROM manager (if it's not already there) and flash clockwork again.

Is it doing this when you plug the phone in when it is off? If so you may want to check out THIS thread. The second post should answer your question.

What does rom have to do with recovery? Wiping cache and dalvik-cache will not do anything. It's because charging while off mode does not work anymore due to the new recovery being based off of ics and not gingerbread. That's probably why there's no power off option anymore too.

I'm sorry that we have people that won't even bother testing anything before giving false information... Are you on a older CWM recovery? On you on TWRP? Have you even once tried CWM touch recovery? If so you would know these things. BTW there's already a thread for CWM touch recovery right HERE

clockworkmod taking over other recovery

This is pisses me off that it does this. Clockworkmod isn't wiping certain things correctly. I didn't ask for it to take over my other recovery method. Clockwork is ****ty and at wiping and couldn't even wipe my ass. I'm sure ppl that get a lot of FC get them because they used Clockworkmod to install their Rom.

I've used it but havn't in a while. Today I wanted to install a different ROM but Clockwordmod pops up instead and this is without even using Rom Manager.
Just install a new recovery then. I'm guessing when you've installed ROM Manager, you've also installed ClockWorkMod recovery.
use Ra's recovery, it is reliable, tested and proven to be much better than clockwork

oh yes because it's just that simple. I can say WTF I want about it since ppl need to know it doesn't wipe correctly. Hell even Devs are starting to recommend not using it since it doesn't wipe correctly. Hell try to do a Dalvik wipe and see what happens....NOTHING. It doesn't wipe it at all. Anyways I found the option to flash the recovery back to what I had at the bottom of Rom Manager.
I don't think anything magically taken over is a real assessment but that is just my guess. I think a mistake happened from the end user end. Trojans and Viruses happens the same way. It's not always intentional but often enough its is the fault of the user. Crap happens.
A minor hiccup You have a long weekend to enjoy your phone,ROM or BEER and friends!
I choose BEER and FRIENDS this weekend. Everyone take a break!!

well I found out it's a feature to take over as recovery from reading the clockwordmod thread. It happened in one of the new updates.
Doesn't matter now I have what I need and I'm happy to know I can flash it back to the recovery I like through Rom managers menus.

YES IT IS JUST THAT SIMPLE. Look even you found it So proven that it is easy to do. Im not saying that you are incorrect about the wiping issues. I find Rom Manager as a great app and when USED correctly there should not be issues with the wipe option. Last point before I focus my laughter elsewhere. Maybe because you are too high up on your horse to see that when people take the time out to make FREE software(app) for people like you and myself to use then a THANK YOU would be the correct statement. You are not force to use or pay for it.
It doesn't magically take over you push the ****ing option to flash it.
Find the how to root thread by toast, go to the part about flashing the recovery, do the steps and fix your own problem. That is how you learn.
There is no reason to come here and bad mouth a developer that contributes more to this forum that you could ever dream to.
I personally hate Clockwork too, it's ugly.
Today I used ROM Manager to switch to RA's and it worked perfect.
Man some of u guys on these forums are just so ungrateful. How bout you just go make your own recovery..... OH WAIT YOU CAN'T
Just Hilarious!!!!!

[Q] Problem with flashing DL30 (FroYo)

OK, I'm kinda new at this flashing stuff but here is my issue. I tried to flash DL30 using the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937499 Everything was fine until after step 2. When I selected "choose zip from SD Card" I couldn't find my DL30.zip =O. Anyone know how I can fix this?
When in doubt, download again. Our if you can, hook it up to your comp and do a file search. Typically it saves in downloads. Make sure its saved as a zip as well.
Also when looking for it in cwm scroll all the way to the bottom.

Great minds think alike. Hopefully that was his only problem. I have to say though, there's something pretty funny about someone thinking their phone is bricked because they're using the wrong button to make selections in recovery! I'm not making fun of anyone, but it does make my chuckle a little.

If the ROM still won't boot, I would wipe data, cache, and Dalvik-Cache, and then flash the ROM again (assuming the zip is still on your SD).

Wipe each item once. I think the new recoveries wipe everything when you select 'data', but do the other items just to be sure. Dalvik-Cache is under the Advanced section.
Thanks a lot. My phone working now!

Hi thanks a lot for your help. Your Track pad solution is golden. My phone is working now. Take care and keep helping people
Glad I could help.
Haha I feel for you OP I had this problem at first (came from an EVO didn't have a trackpad) so I was confused. Didn't take much before I realized it was the trackpad inside. My new problem is my trackpad broke lol. So now I can't select anything (in the OS or in the Recovery) somehow I got the power button to work one time while I was in recovery (little white writing even came up like it does when you flash a rom that said "power button select enabled") never got this to happen again though, any ideas?

I hear this all the time, and it's just not true. I was getting horrible battery life for about 3-4 weeks. The other day I reverted back to cwm 6010 so I could wipe my battery stats....then I reflashed cwm 6019. since then, my battery life has increased from about 6 hours in standby to about 18...and I haven't installed or removed any apps, changed any settings in any apps, made any kernel changes or anything. I've literally left my phone alone completely, with the exception of voice calls and text messaging...but only communication...no settings. The only variable was the wipe battery stats option.
I don't know what it does or why it works for me, it just does. I remember the android employee's statement about how the battery stats option was useless, etc...I've seen the studies and read the discussions. I just see different evidence, pointing to a different conclusion in my own personal experience
