[Q] Droid X for Droid 2 Global...Would you do it? - Droid X General

Hi Guys,
I love my DX as much as the next guy but I've got a Droid 2 Global at work that nobody is using and I can "trade" my DX for it if I want. I wouldn't be able to keep the DX most because at some point someone may need a phone as a loaner.
But I'm curious. If you had the chance would you trade your droid x for a brand new Droid 2 Global?

Not a chance. I love my DX, mostly it's thin profile and big (or what used to be big) screen. Now if your DX has issues or is broken then that's a different story. Otherwise the phones are equal in performance and the rom scene. So it's up to you, I would just keep my DX though.

Hardware buttons and bigger screen are a plus

I liked the physical keyboard on my Droid 1 for gaming. Order and chaos online for example sucks to type messages in game while in fights etc because the keyboard covers up what your doing. That's the main reason I'm considering swapping. Also the roms/devs are the same for both devices for the most part so I wouldn't have to change much.
I may be able to keep the droid x as a wifi only device if I switch. I told my boss on friday that I was considering switching because I was having "problems" with the phone and that it might be defective

Droid X OR Vibrant?????

I will have a droid x tomorrow as it was a replacement. In the mean time I bought a vibrant. I love the V but I also love the X!
I know this is X forum but I also posted this in the V forums to see if anyone there had to make a choice like mine!
If you had to choose, which one and why? WHY did you choose the X?
i was going to go with a droid x but the 2 year contract is killing me.........so i was looking for gsm phones and stumbled upon the galaxy s i9000 (international version) and the t mobile vibrant...... don't get me wrong the droid x is great... but imo i prefer a gsm phone with rich features such as samsung phones...

Rich features of the Samsung phones? The GSM versions of the Galaxy S don't even have a camera flash. I think you need to look at what's best for you and fits your needs CDMA or GSGSM and feature sets your looking for. I personally have been surprised and impressed with the Droid X.

Ever since then, the screen on my droid seems dull and bland after looking at the beautiful colors of the Super AMOLED

I like the S-AMOLED screen on my Captivate for the most part. I do NOT like that its a pentile matrix. But the colors are very good on it.
I was in a toss up over this phone or the Droid X. I thought the screen on the DX was pretty good too, seeing as it is a LCD with full resolution, so its going to be crisper and sharper. But Moto drove me off with the whole e-fuse crap.
If your even trying to compare the two it doesn't seem like it would add up to switch.
Both are awesome android phones. If you like 'a little' weight the X seems prefect. Honestly the screen is enough to not even consider anything else until something better appears better then the galaxy s line.
So what if it doesn't have flash? Most phones take horrible camera shots in night. Buy a point and shoot if you want a camera.
Wait until CM6 is on your S it will be better than anything for a while.

Here's what I posted in the vibrant forum for those that care...
Finally decided to go with the droid x.
The V has a nice screen and all but having BOTH phones on hand and messing with them the x just wins, for ME.
The 4.3 which looks like a true landscape screen is just awesome to me.
I also tried a game called raging thunder 2 and the X kicked the V's butt.
With the V it is VERY VERY hard to control the car, no matter how much I adjust the steering settings. Maybe the game needs to be updated to the v's processor, I dont know.
With the X the steering was amazing, and so much more FUN to play that game and others. I will say this, the V has a much better smoooothness in schrolling around the phone than the X. I also LOVE the camera flash on the X, takes great pics in the dead darkness.
Thanks for playing guys!
I am actually returning my Vibrant and getting a Droid X. I loved my Vibrant, the screen is the best of any phone I have ever seen and almost alone that made me keep it but T-Mobile's coverage sucks. Yes when you are on 3G in an HSPA+ market it is lightening fast but you lose 3G all over the place. I live in Houston and have lost 3G all over the city even when outside. I had Sprint before all of this and never realized how good their 3G coverage was until I tried T-Mobile.
I would have waited for the Fascinate but I have ultimately realized that the Droid X is superior to the Galaxy in every way except the screen. So will take the Droid X and maybe in the Spring there will be a 4G Samsung with a Super AMOLED phone on Verizon that can replace it.

The Galaxy's GPU is better. Also, the Galaxy has a 16gb version while the Droid x only has 8gb. Nothing major though.
I have the galaxy s (international version) only because I was able to purchase it before the Droid X came out. I was able to try the Droid x at my local wal-mart and I would be happy with either one.

Sorry, I meant to say superior in every way for my purposes. Yes the GPU is better but I am not getting my phone for games. I am sure there are many that would get more out of the Vibrant or Galaxy.

Download android sensor data. Open it. Then run that game again.. some reason the accelerometer is buggy bit if you run that it smooths it out.. and the 6 axis motion sensor is sweet...
The vibrant may have 16gb of internal memory but correct me if im wrong only 2gigs of that is for apps. Im pretty sure its that way with the other galaxy s phones and te droid x all 8gb is partitioned for apps.

you won't be uber-happy with the iPhone 4- I have both (DroidX for persoanl, iPhone 4 for work) and the only thing good about the iPhone is the games- and the camera.
They haven't released an untethered Jailbreak for 4.2.1, which is a PITA if you jailbreak and need to reboot your phone.
Besides- the iPhone 5 will probably be released in September.
i'd wait for the new iPhone coming out June/July.

I had an iPhone for 2 years, then I switched to Android, after the iPhone 4 came out I thought I was missing something. So, I went back to iPhone, it was a big mistake. I was missing Android almost instantly and I returned the iPhone the next day. I will never go back to iPhone. At least you will have a small bit of time to test the iPhone out, and if you dont like it you can return it, (I think you will be).
Verizon is offering a deal to buy back your smartphone bought during or after November with a $200 Visa gift card if you will purchase an iPhone at full retail.
That said, even though that seems like a bad deal still to me, it looks like the low ballers here could stand to be more generous.
I am currently tryign to decide which Droid to get, the Driod X or the Droid 2 Global. I cant make up my mind which one I like more. I am not waiting for the Droid Bionic in hopes the Droid X and Droid 2 will have the same life as the Droid 1.

The only good that can come from the i[diot]Phone on verizon is the removal of people incapable of comprehending the android experience (how they get thru life is another tangent) & the more conceivable outcome: a potential price war. The likes of which can only hope to benefit users with more inexpensive phones & possibly better price points on things such as net fees. But not to get hopes up or anything, big business begets greedy MFs. Maybe they'll just continue to price fix...

Broken Incredible insurance replaces with Droid X

So the screen on my Incredible got a small crack after dropping it. Overnight the crack took over the whole top part of the screen. No biggie, that's what I pay Asurion to protect my investment. Except that they have no Incredibles in stock and will not get any more. They say is discontinued. They offer me either a new Droid X or a refurb Fascinate. Both are huge so I just went with the new one. After 13 months with the incredible it sucks that this happened. Was hoping to carry that baby all through the two years.
I guess I just have to hope that the Development on the X is just as good.
Thanks to the two main developers I used (HeyItsLou and R2DoesInc) and to everyone else for all you did.

I had an issue with my Otter Box, so I have a new back panel coming. I've been thinking about trying something to go to the 2150. With a spare back panel - I am wondering if I could cut out the "window" - but still use the outer rubber cover. Having never held one in my hand, I don't knot know if the battery + case is 1mm, 5 mm, 10 mm thicker...

I agree with this! Not anywhere near the development going on with the X. Locked bootloader so no flashing custom roms, kernels, radios, etc. Initially had a D2 and bought the Inc solely because of this.

Ah, I was thinking you were holding out for a specific phone that was going to be released at that time. You had me intrigued.
The only thing I've ever liked about the X was the keyboard due to the bigger screen...but downloading Smart Keyboard solved that issue.
My DInc does everything I want it to and does it smooth as butter, plus it has a ridiculous aftermarket ROM support base. Can't argue with that.
Also, AMOLED
The lock bootloader on the Droid X is causing a huge lack of support for it... Ugh, very few ROM's.
Very few ROM's on the X and no custom Kernel's or anything fancy.
My sister has an X and I rooted it for her, Liberty ROM would be a great choice with use of Launcher Pro.
Honestly after you load that ROM onto it it's really snappy and fast and I like many aspects better. Still though, my main reason for going with the incredible was the small size, other than that the X is a top phone.
Just don't stick with the crap motorola loads it with, it's a useless turd with that stuff on it.
reason being for the X replacement (dont know if it was mentioned here) is due to the fact that the Incredible 2 is being dropped on Apr 28th.
SO what they're trying to weed out all of the old to make space for the new.
It ain't the 28th yet. I tell you if I did not feel this phone was a drop or bad stare away from having a fully non functional screen, I would just keep it. But a small ding in the center first moved to the right. After a while to the left and now its a slice of the whole top. Just like a windshield.

I too started my android life on the X. Flashed ROMs all the time, did research and found out about the locked boot loader, especially after some clown faked that he cracked it...
Anyways, I traded my X straight up for a dinc and am very happy I made the trade.
Roms on the X are weak in comparison.

Xoom + DX = bluetooth tether for free without root. Also works with D1, D2, D2G, D2R2D2, and DPro. Probably will work with D3 and Bionic. Oh, and bluetooth tether with these Moto phones also will work with a Samsung Tab 10.1, and probably any other Honeycomb tablet. Regular adhoc Wifi hotspot doesn't work. Thanks Moto
You should be able to do that with any other Bluetooth Android phone, too. However, Bluetooth data transfer rates are ridiculous...you probably don't notice on 3G, but if you go to LTE, you'll see horrible performance doing that.

Got a buddy of mine with the D3 and I was comparing it to an X2 and I would take the D3 over the X2 if I had to get a phone right now this minute. But its sounds more and more like the BIONIC is going to be the device to have. LTE and pretty much the same as the D3 in every other way. The D3 I think is a little late to the party at this point. It should have come out shortly before the but LTE push to hold people over but now I am afraid its going to get swept under the rug.
Then like some of the other posts said the Samsung devices are really frickin nice right now and that SuperAMOLED is incredible to look at.

On topic:
I would wait another couple of weeks for the bionic or any news of a SGSII. The Bionic has a home splash now at Verizon, and we all have thought for a while that August would be the right time anyways. Judge for your self from there, as the Bionic is rummored to be a slightly different beast. (probably a 3g phone vs. 4g Flagship type thing)
And less on-topic

Not Necessary. Look at the Atrix, I have some faith left for open boot loaders on future phones. Also, I love moto build quality and style. If you don't like moto phones, and the thread is asking specifically of a moto device, inside a thread for a moto device, you should probably take a long and hard look at your priorities.
Yeah besides some issues with my last DROID X Motorola has been rock solid hardware and great for reception and to me lately quality beats easy rooting. I have my X and three OG DROIDS my wife and sister are due to upgrade in november so we will see what's hot then but Motorola will still be the first phones I look at.

RAZR buying or not?

Hey guys, i think about buying me a new phone with a dual core, because i think that this is the minimum configuration of a smartphone today (At the moment i have an optimus black).
Can you still recommend the RAZR (and why) or would you prefer other lowpriced (older) smartphones like the Nexus oder the Galaxy S2.
Thanks
I have a Galaxy Nexus and my girlfriend just got the Razr HD Maxx (Major upgrade from her Droid 2), and it really depends on what you are into. The device is amazingly snappy (Even more than my fully rooted, ROM'd, custom kernel Galaxy Nexus), and the radios are much stronger than my Galaxy Nexus (A lot of times she will have 4G in buildings where I only have 1 or 2 bars of 3G). Also, the 3300 Mah battery is insane, it literally is a full day phone, usually she has 45% at the end of the day (She uses it a lot for pinterest, facebook, all that girly stuff). But, the main problem is that it does not have stock Android, and probably won't for a while. If that bothers you then go with the Galaxy Nexus otherwise this is definitely a great phone to have.

Motorola is the only company that came out and said they wanted to be stock Android, but the carriers request the skins. That wins points in my books, and in all honesty it still looks closer to aosp than any other phone out there.
It all depends on what your looking for op. If you want great battery and build then this phone will be perfect. If you need the best camera or a removable battery, you might want to look elsewhere.

Looked at getting it for a while, but decided on the SGS3 since it had a great camera and a removable battery.
I'm in the same boat. I like the razr because its as close to stock android you can get without being a nexus phone. Build quality and battery also look great. The one thing I'm concerned about is all the restrictions moto puts on their phone and the bloatware I'll have to remove once I root it.

Bought the HD dev and waiting for it to arrive. Can't beat moto build quality and radio. Root is already available so you can freeze all the bloat easily. Aside from waiting for the quad core phones to arrive I think this is right with (if not above) the sgIII.

I'm strongly considering the MAXX HD. the general reviews seem good, the guts seem fine... a few complaints about the software/bloatware, but that's why I come to XDA. If the MAXX HD will get a root/recovery/ROM situation that supports AOKP or CM10 or whatever... that's the key. The phone's preload would be immediately lobotomized upon delivery and I'd set up with a rooted ROM as I'm accustomed to!
So, I'll be intently watching all the threads in the Razr HD section (presumably which covers the new MAXX HD as well :silly: )
Glad this section of the forum is up and running. I will likely be switching from Sprint to Verizon soon and this phone is exactly what I want. I'm on the Sprint Galaxy S2 right now but really want to give a Moto phone a shot over a S3. I can't wait to read some more opinions in the next few weeks.
Just picked one up yesterday was kind of nervous being that I was coming from the fiasco that was Motorolas Droid 3 but I now have no regrets. Wifi is kinda choppy but not bad. They will probably fix it in the future

Just ordered two from Simplexity online today. One HD - white for my wife and one Maxx HD for myself. They all got shipped out today and expect to arrive tomorrow afternoon. It is much better deal than local Verizon store and Costco. Cost me under $300 for two without tax.
I cannot recommend the maxx enough. I'll take a huge sealed battery over a small removable battery any day. GS3 is nice hardware but I just can't get over the cheap feel and bloated UI of Samsung phones. A Ferrari engine in a Hyundai is still a Hyundai. I wanted the Ferrari design as well.

I totally agree that I have no idea what you're talking about.

Paid $650 outright for my Maxx HD, I feel it was well spent. (Paid retail to keep my grandfathered unlimited data)
Coming from a Droid 2, the reception seems inferior, but it's hard to say at this point. Don't plan to return, but it will take another week or two to fully evaluate.
I've been away from my native north jersey at a conference in CA (4G everywhere, etc). Battery life is simply stunning, and responsiveness on ICS is amazing. Was running CM9 on my D2 and this is a huge step up. When you throw in the beautiful design, nice screen, and 4G capability, it's hard to find any reason not to buy this phone.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere (maybe it's fairly standard these days?): this phone has, or feels like it has, an LRA (linear resonant actuator) rather than your standard rotational vibrator. Haptic feedback feels excellent!
I'd strongly recommend this phone for anyone looking to buy or upgrade.

Got my new Maxx HD. Love it! Activated!
I went and checked this out at Verizon today and was VERY surprised of how much I liked it!
The big knock for me was the 4.7 in screen making the phone way to big....My OG Razr Maxx w/ 4.3 in screen is about as big as I want to go...
However, when I compared it to my OG Razr....it was EXACTLY the same size and dimension....The difference was having LESS bezel and MORE screen! It's a good bit smaller the GS3
I did a quick speed test and got 24 MB/S vs 12 MB/s on my OG Razr.....I didnt think I would like the soft button interface but it actually was much different than expected and made navigating and using the phone MUCH easier....and ;ast but not least the whole interface with supper smooth!
Cant afford it atm....but jIm def getting one soon!!
Today I was offered an alternative replacement for my Samsung Galaxy S3 that I finally accepted, which ends up being the Razr HD. My S3 cannot make calls 50% of the time due to a NO SIM error message... and I really just wanted them to fix my phone, but after 1.5 months of making excuses why my phone doesn't work to friends, co-workers, bosses, it was time to move on. I do have a question for you all, does this device have NFC? The Motorola site does not list this as a feature of the phone, but other sites say it does. As a temp resolution Verizon sent me a Galaxy Nexus, which was nice of them. (although I have yet to see a real amazing upgrade over the touchwiz'd ICS on the S3) How are you guys enjoying the motoblur? Worth it to move to a new ROM, or stick with stock?
Thanks, in advance!
