So the screen on my Incredible got a small crack after dropping it. Overnight the crack took over the whole top part of the screen. No biggie, that's what I pay Asurion to protect my investment. Except that they have no Incredibles in stock and will not get any more. They say is discontinued. They offer me either a new Droid X or a refurb Fascinate. Both are huge so I just went with the new one. After 13 months with the incredible it sucks that this happened. Was hoping to carry that baby all through the two years.
I guess I just have to hope that the Development on the X is just as good.
Thanks to the two main developers I used (HeyItsLou and R2DoesInc) and to everyone else for all you did.

I've heard the battery life on the X is far superior.
I have a 2150mah HTC extended battery. I can sell it to you cheap. Its bulky but effective.
Say 25 + shipping or 30 shipped.

How much does it add to the back of the phone?
I had an issue with my Otter Box, so I have a new back panel coming. I've been thinking about trying something to go to the 2150. With a spare back panel - I am wondering if I could cut out the "window" - but still use the outer rubber cover. Having never held one in my hand, I don't knot know if the battery + case is 1mm, 5 mm, 10 mm thicker...

I agree with this! Not anywhere near the development going on with the X. Locked bootloader so no flashing custom roms, kernels, radios, etc. Initially had a D2 and bought the Inc solely because of this.

I'm just getting the Inc2 to hold me over til april 2012

lol just my contract is up. sorry. shoulda mentioned that,
god the X is no where near as good as the Inc. i came from an X and was all into flashing new roms. except all the roms are so LIMITED since the bootloader! i couldnt believe how much better it was over here in the Inc forum. so much you can do with this phone.
inc vs x non-rooted: inc wins
inc vs x rooted: inc wins, not even close

Ah, I was thinking you were holding out for a specific phone that was going to be released at that time. You had me intrigued.
The only thing I've ever liked about the X was the keyboard due to the bigger screen...but downloading Smart Keyboard solved that issue.
My DInc does everything I want it to and does it smooth as butter, plus it has a ridiculous aftermarket ROM support base. Can't argue with that.
Also, AMOLED
The lock bootloader on the Droid X is causing a huge lack of support for it... Ugh, very few ROM's.
Very few ROM's on the X and no custom Kernel's or anything fancy.
My sister has an X and I rooted it for her, Liberty ROM would be a great choice with use of Launcher Pro.
Honestly after you load that ROM onto it it's really snappy and fast and I like many aspects better. Still though, my main reason for going with the incredible was the small size, other than that the X is a top phone.
Just don't stick with the crap motorola loads it with, it's a useless turd with that stuff on it.
reason being for the X replacement (dont know if it was mentioned here) is due to the fact that the Incredible 2 is being dropped on Apr 28th.
SO what they're trying to weed out all of the old to make space for the new.
It ain't the 28th yet. I tell you if I did not feel this phone was a drop or bad stare away from having a fully non functional screen, I would just keep it. But a small ding in the center first moved to the right. After a while to the left and now its a slice of the whole top. Just like a windshield.

I too started my android life on the X. Flashed ROMs all the time, did research and found out about the locked boot loader, especially after some clown faked that he cracked it...
Anyways, I traded my X straight up for a dinc and am very happy I made the trade.
Roms on the X are weak in comparison.

Hello, I have a droid 2 at the moment and I'm heavily toying with the idea of picking up a DX and selling my D2...would it be worth it or am i going to sort of downgrade?
I see that the DX has more roms and seems like more development too.
I got myself a DX and picked a D2 up for my sister at the same time, about 4 days ago. I have to tell you, I like my Rooted DX with ApeX 1.3.1 a LOT better than her D2. But it's whatever you will be happy with.
Come on brotha! The DX a "downgrade" from the D2?! How do you figure that?! Not to be all up in your kool aid - but you know Verizon isn't even selling new D2's anymore right? only refurbs. So I wouldn't call it downgrading to buy one of the most popular phones on the market.
Having ranted all that - honestly - same phone - a little different package. I know people are going to bust me on that - but come on - what's the difference? HDMI out? Wooo! I have used that uhh - none times in 4 months. 8mp camera? The X takes horrible pictures (well - not horrible. but not any better than the D2).
Going from D2 to the X is a complete waste when there are some Tegra 2 dual core processors right around the corner. If you are going to blow $300+, I say wait just a couple more months.
If you want to do something cool pick up an OG D1 that for $100 to tide you over. They are overclocking those to 1ghz and you will get REAL custom roms. cyanogen, bugless beast, ultimate droid etc.
I heard D1 is already getting a Gingerbread port. DX aint getting no kinda love like that. I'm trying to pick me up a D1 or an Incredible if you know anyone.
Just my opinion though.

The incredible is a nice phone. But the battery life is pretty bad. Get an extended and you'll probably be ok.
I am not saying that the Incredible is a better phone -but I would like to have it as a second phone so I could run CM and BB. I hear the Dinc has a semi functional ginger bread port also. Battery life does suck though.
Don't get me wrong -I really like the X. I don't think I could use a 3.7 screen anymore -but I sure wish we were completely unlocked.

Someone wrongly said that the D2 was discontinued. It may be true for the original, but the D2 Global .... with 1.2Ghz .... that's still very much on sale.
Its an even trade, speed & bad camera vs. beauty & good camera.

I think its all about what you are looking for, but in no way a downgrade. I think most people would say the D2 is a downgrade to the DX smaller screen and such. I guess you have to ask yourself the question is a hard keyboard a requirement. If it is not and you can handle the size the Droid X is probably going to meet or exceed all your expectations. I think it is one of the best Android phones out.
-McMex
I'm just used to owning hard keyboard devices but I've used the nexus one (that was my first full touch phone) and I didn't complain about it actually lol.
I've read some news recently about verizon possibly getting a new HTC device, but then again, Droid X is in my opinion considered the classier more stylish phone, so its re-sale value might hold out more when the new one's come out, that's also a factor for me.
I, like a few others, would advise you to wait. I'm loving my DX running Fission, but as soon as some of these dual core phones start popping up I'll be upgrading immediately.
I am worried about having to go down to a smaller screen. At first I thought it was necessarily big, but now when I use my old D1 it makes me realize how nice having such a large screen is. I did have to take my Body Glove off though. DX w/ Body Glove was just a little too bulky for me in my pocket. Taking away the cover made me love the phone that much more.
If we could get Bugless Beast on this phone I would be in heaven, and quite frankly would have no true reason to upgrade my phone. I'm just glad I ditched the Blackberry a few years back. Just to think, I almost got a Storm 2 over a D1. What an awful mistake that would have been.
Got it a few hours ago. On paper, the specs but don't seem like a huge upgrade, but when you actually use it, you can tell it is.
It's fast. No hiccups, lag, or anything. You may say, "my dinc doesn't have any lag or slowdown either," but when you mess with a dinc 2 you will see what I mean. Screen is gorgeous. Phone feels excellent. Speaker is less "tinny" than the original.
I still need to mess with a ton of other stuff, but if you have any questions, let me know.
I'm most concerned with if/when it gets rooted. And how many dev's it picks up. Looks like quite a few of them already went to the Thunderbolt. I'm not due for an upgrade until July 2012 anyway, so when that date comes, who knows what will be out, but I will probably go with whatever is already rooted, and has the most development.
I had one a few days ago, and honestly, the "faster" tihng is really overblown. A menu screen may pop up a microsecond faster, but it wasn;t any more useable or anything. And the glare on that screen could cut glass.

I got one this morning and I'm liking it. I needed a world phone so it was a no-brainer for me. I like the screen size as compared to my dinc1. It's a good compromise with having a bigger screen without being one of the 4.3" phones that I thought were too big.

What Sense version is it? What kernel? Is it drm protected so it can do netflix? I noticed on the vzw website it has the same processor as the Thunderbolt. So don't know if it would be. Also noticed it doesn't have a trackball or optical joystick. Thats gonna suck.

Guess I'll have to play with one to check out the glare thing. DI2 is just the size I was looking for, but no dual core and no LTE, made me actually consider waiting for the GS2..... or better.

That's a big concern for me. I just picked up the DInc2 yesterday....at retail price. Why? Both my wife and I are deaf and we live in what you would call a rather remote area, but at least have VZW tower nearby. A 4G/LTE phone is overkill when one lives nearly 2 hours to the first traffic light. So, on paper, as a 3G phone with video chat capability at a lower price then the LTE stuff, the DInc2 really fits the bill by giving me video chat so my wife and I can sign to each other when in different locations. That's a big plus.
BUT... as I scout all the normal forums I've used for my Droid 1, Droid X and Nook, the DInc2 looks like a real sleeper in terms of dev interest. This is my first HTC phone and even though the Motorola Droid has that %*&$#@ 'locked' bootloader, there's still a lot of options as well as the leaked restore files. I don't really want to root a phone until the point where there's some solid dev work as well as the ability to restore after screwing something up.
So, since like I mentioned, we're nearly 2 hours to the first traffic light and the nearest VZW store is just beyond that, I may bring it back on Tuesday when we're in the area and wait for the next suitable phone that has video chat capabilities. I've always used VZW's one-year contract and now that this option has bit the dust, I don't want to sign a two-year extension at the end of the year unless its for a phone that well-supported by devs AND has decent battery life.

It takes a while for the devs to ramp up on a phone. It was a couple of weeks or more before the original DI was cracked and then it took even more time to get ROMs up to speed. Every phone is different and it just takes time. The DI2 was just released YESTERDAY. Your expectations might be just a little high.
...just sayin'.

Yeah, I do understand that. At the same time, I've been seeing devs flock away from other phones as they get fascinated with latest 4G/LTE, tablet, dual-core, etc. So, in that respect, I'd guess the DInc2 would gotten more attention had it been released early Winter.

I was in a Verizon Wireless store today getting the incredible 2 for my sister, and I noticed the fascinate was gone...I asked the guy about it and he said that they sent all of their fascinates back because there were too many people coming back with problems. He said 50% of people with the fascinate come back in the store and end up having to have their phones replaced. It seems like a pretty short lived run for the fascinate...September 2010 to May 2011? Also, I feel like I got dicked and now I'm stuck with this thing...I want the incredible 2! I guess there'a always new phones coming out so I'd never be satisfied, but I really don't think the fascinate is as bad as some people make it out to be on the forums...haven't had problems with GPS, battery life, voodoo lagfix seems to fix the lag problem...not until recently did the data problems start.
Btw I'm now one of the 50% that's had to have my fascinate replaced...
Mine is working great but my wife keeps getting bad ones but I don't think that verizon would take them out of stores because in like the last hour watching tv I have seen the commercial like 4 times.

Were you at a Corp store or 3rd party retailer? Also, even if it was a Corp store, whatever the salesman said is likely completely made up and nothing that VZW would have stated officially.
I just saw a VZW commercial promoting the Fascinate; I just got mine about 1 week ago and I'm loving it... no issues here. (Knocking on wood)
Sounds like a isolated incident. I was just in a Verizon store and they had them there. It's the mothers day promotional item, its still got a while to go. Probably until the sgs2, or some iteration of it hits the shelves.

Well when you put it that way...
I guess I was referring to newer phones in general. I'd probably wait for the Droid Charge, but I'd be a little shaky going to LTE at this point.
I played with the charge a little today....... think of a fatter bigger and uglier fascinate.. even the back cover is the same slick material, I'm holding my upgrade for vzw sgs2 variant
I've been KANGBANGED!!!!!
Us Fascinate owners should know better than to believe a VZ rep by now so come on.. Sales are still going strong for it at the wireless kiosk in the retail store I work at, most people i know end up rooting and rom-ing it anyway so I haven't heard any problems from them.. As for myself and my SF well there's been a few mistakes due to trial and error but overrall its a great phone and I love it.
Tapatalked from my rooted/rom'd/themed Fascinate snacking on FROYO
Only reason to get a charge is the fact that its a droid. Vzw will show it love as opposed to us. :-\
I was in a Verizon corporate store just yesterday, I think I saw 3 live fascinate display models and 2 fascinate dummies! I think it's gonna be a while before we see it phased out. Btw, I'm selling mine to pay for the t-bolt I bought while I was there yesterday. PM me if interested.

If I had a T-bolt, I would sell it so I could get a Fascinate. I'm loving my Fascinate since they finally !$#@&$!?#$&! upgraded it to 2.2. I won't upgrade until I can get a higher resolution screen, or, better battery life.

I have to go with the other positives here. Loving this phone with the community rom. Don't see any need to upgrade in the near future. Gingerbread would be nice, but not a necessity for me at all.
And Target is pushing this phone pretty hard, too in their new wireless offerings (at least at my location). They have it for $99 and the rep hanging around said he sells quite a few of them
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I don't think we'll see the end until the Galaxy S2. They're still selling quite a bit, and now VZ is really starting to advertise it, and it FINALLY has 2.2.
I just realized - if you think you're hearing about lots of problems with the Fascinate, well, that's probably because they sold so friggen many of them. I do have to admit though, it does feel kinda "cheap" with it's plastic back cover, compared to the iPhone 4. Why don't they release a titanium cover for it? That would be sweet.
Aside from being just an all around good Android device/phone, the really great features about the Fascinate are the: Gorilla glass (forget ever needing screen protectors again), the wonderfully sleek and lite form, and the AMOLED screen.
Does T-Bolt have G-Glass? Does it have AMOLED? Is it sleeker and lighter? Does it have better battery life???
My friend at work got one and my first reaction when I held it was: Jesus why is this thing so thick and heavy, isn't it a NEW phone?!? So, I figured well, it must have like double the battery life - then he tells me, if he actually USES the LTE he gets like FOUR hours. Seriously, WTF?!? And you can't plug in the charger when you use the "kick stand"? Serious FAIL in that design!
The ONE thing that I like about the iPhone 4 is: the high res display. Reading .PDF files on the little Fascinate screen is not the best experience. I would be willing to take a slightly larger (but not thicker please) phone for a HIGHER RESOLUTION + larger (4.3") display. But it MUST be higher resolution than 800 x 480!!! It almost makes me cry that the S2 isn't higher res. QQ
Actually the Thunderbolt does have gorilla glass. After root and running a good Rom and kernel your looking at battery life that's as good if not better than a fascinate. I sure do miss the amoled screen though.

so I had an incdredible, got an iphone 4 (huge mistake), then got the thunderbolt. well im now back on the incredible and i gotta say that the inc is the fastest smoothest phone ive had so far. the thunderbolt felt laggy alot, even after i rooted it, no matter what rom i was on. i dont live in an area where 4g exists so that didnt matter. i also didnt like how big it was. im not even sure the inc 2 is as good as the inc 1. they decreased internal memory and increased the size of the screen... just seems a little weird that this phone seems to be better than the newer technology..
Agree with you!
I have been in Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular in the past few days checking all the phones out, and I can't find anything that is as quick and works as well as the Incredible. I would love to upgrade, but to me there is nothing to UPgrade to. The original Incredible is just an awesome phone.
That's weird. I'd think the added 256mb of RAM would make it faster.
I wonder if it's a matter of the Incredible having been out far longer and devs having more time to figure out how to optimize things for it?

it has better tech because it's older, and more time was put into it. the thunderbolt has crappy tech, sense 2.1. a good example, i was in the store the other day looking for a belt holster, i did find it, but, was comparing specs on the droid charge to the droid x, the droid x has a faster proc, i asked why the charge costed more since it has lower tech then the x. the rep said "well, this is newer, has dual core (WRONG) has a bigger screen (yeah, because i really need a 4.3 inch screen when 3.7 is serving me fine, ffs i use a 20" HDTV i got for 90 bucks on clearence, no it's not "1080p led, 120hz" crap, but it works.

Yeah I got the Incredible the first day it was out. This phone works pretty good with the Synergy rom.

I have been looking around for a phone to tempt me away from the Incredible and nothing has even come close. What I find funny is the Verizon stores I've gone to are now locking the phones so you can't get into the settings and see what its specs are. This is truly the first phone that has lived up to its name.
C4H1LL why did you get rid of the iphone 4 out of curiosity? I'm track to buy the new one for verizon when it comes out.
I agree the Incredible is Incredible!!! I will cry when it brakes, running MIUI.US with Incredikernel. The Incredible 2 and the Thunderbolt are basically the same except Incredible2 is global and no LTE. All three have 1gig single core cpu's, but the overclock potential for the 2 and thunder would kill the original. I want a unlocked bootloader dual core HTC.

Iphone 4 has been out on Verizon since February. The Iphone 5 is rumored for September release. Before you buy something you will regret, take the incredible(1or2) and load MIUI.US can make it look like a Iphone.

MIUI is a GREAT ROM, even if you're NOT trying to make your phone look like an Iphone. (I'm definitely not.)
Still have my dinc.. still an awesome phone. But my inspire has me hooked. Plus att coverage is way better in my area. ( sticks) . At this point in the game its really a battle of specs. To me its all becoming overkill if you think bout it.. while having the latest and greatest is nice. Staying one generation behind is always better. Why? Because of optimization..lol bugs worked out.

ha yea. For these android phones that is true, plus you get a huge discount is price.
You couldn't pay me to leave my Tbolt to go back to my dInc. Or the dInc2. A number of the early custom ROMs where pretty sorry, despite the best efforts of many devs. That mainly has to do with some pretty sorry base leaks from the Big Red Checkmark. I'm currently running a 3D ROM (not exactly easy on graphics) and it lags NONE at all. Furthermore, having 25 to 45 Mbps in your pocket is not something you ever want to give up.
Concerning the dInc2, that's a far better device than the original. The LCD is FAR brighter than the AMOLED, the CPU is more muscular, it's got more memory, it's got a screen large enough to reasonably display a keyboard, a decent front-facing camera, it's even more pleasant to the hand to hold, and it's actually difficult to kill the battery inside a day. If 4G wasn't a factor, I'd have a dInc2. 4G being a factor, the Tbolt is an industrial-strength device capable of summoning speeds as high as 45Mbps, leaving you effectively waiting for nothing. Really.... it downloads songs faster than you can open the music player and play them. Tethered or on the device, streaming HD quality video is NOT a big deal. I've downloaded 310MB ROMs in under 3 minutes.
not everyone is in a 4g market!!!!!!
if you have the money, go with the t-bolt, if not, just stick with the dinc until you do.
Lol had my Inc since early February. I'm happy with it and the specs aren't too low. I do have a bone to pick with HTC on their cruddy bluetooth system. It is pretty much my dependent internet connection when I'm at home. I can't get wireless out here and the closest thing we can get is dial up (not going back). I'm getting closer to go back to CM7 and get better bluetooth, but the camera sucks on it and I won't be able to use the tv out cable. While I have my issues with it, I'm happy I got it. I got it on sale for 50 bucks at Hhgregg, which in my opinion is a bargain. I don't think 4G will take off...at least not drastically for quite a while as its still being developed in many parts of the US. Maybe by the time my contract is up, I'll upgrade to a different Droid or a different non-HTC sense and Galaxy S device. Maybe get something with HDMI as well as more phones are coming with that lol. Plus with the unlimited data I'm grandfathered in and 4G data in the future, I will no longer have to go out for wifi But I'll be with my Incredible Droid until the contract is up. I might hold onto it and see if there's other purposes for it. I say if you can find this phone dirt cheap like Amazon had for .01 cent with a contract, not really into 4G yet, and could care less about a front facing camera then this phone is for you.
There are tech sites (tested.com) for example who talk about how this device is outdated and stuff.
It really isn't... it is a great phone and hasn't failed me yet. I just added on a bulky battery to mine though so it lasts over a day if I can't find a plug. The only con I had before was battery life.
I am probably going to end up dropping it one day and breaking it beyond repair and that is gonna force me to upgrade, because for what I use it for I don't see myself needing anything else yet.
I already replaced the digitizer twice lol... last time was just because it had a lot of scratches though

Are you rooted? There's probably a bunch of things you can do to help your battery life out, I'm on a 1900mAh battery that still fits in the stock case and I get over a day's use. I use a BUNCH of GPS and data too (according to VZW I used 20GB last month)
But yea the INC is growing a little old but there's nothing I have to complain about it, and no phone is a good enough upgrade for me to go for it.
One day though.. we will part our ways. Just got a new case for mine so I'm in love with it all over again..now spending hours on these forums. oh god. I need to go to sleep.

Looks really promising
And it has a microsd slot which is real important
People seem critical about it, but I think its pretty nice. I only hope they come out with a white version after a while. But the specs are cool. Which apart from the heftier battery and SD card slot, its basically the same as the One X. So personally, I'm planning on getting one.

Micosd, larger battery, HD voice, kickstand, camera button.
Enough new features that make the phone better, its easy to overlook the design that's different form the One X.
I think its a nice phone. Most of the new phones coming out are all nice and promising. Not to fond about the network haha sprint just got slow.... but hopefully their Lte will be great we'll see

It is a nice phone...now we'll probably have to wait a year or so for devs to make better ROMs for it. I *wish* HTC would drop the "Beats by Dr Dre" crap. Makes all audio sound like crap.

Why do you assume we'll have to wait that long? Evo 4G was rooted before it even launched, I was flashing new ROMs 2 months later (based on my post history).
I agree that Beats is lame, though. I see students wearing their Beats headphones and telling me how epic they are, I have them listen to my 8-year-old Sony DJ cans (which aren't even that amazing to begin with, compared to the Sennheiser set I had before them) and they totally outperform. Plus, they cost less than half what the Beats label costs these kids (or, realistically, their parents).
I think the Evo One is a great phone, it was obviously announced yesterday because yesterday was the day launch-day Evo 4G buyers were eligible for full upgrade. But that's fine with me, I've been looking for anything that could make me feel as good about upgrading as the Evo did in 2010. Wasn't too stoked about the SGS3 or the Galaxy Nexus, I was hoping HTC would bring something big to the table. They've been faltering as of late, hopefully this will represent a comeback.
Now that's the phone that may keep me around with Sprint after my current contract expires. I just hope that they would have the LTE network in my area soon. WiMax??? I got to use it only twice when I visited Chicago ever since I got the EVO.
1.2mp front cam. i'll pass. what a let down. what a joke. pathetic phone.
not worth the $200 upgrade.
notsrs.

I leap to presume as the EVO4g Design has been out for a long while and doesn't even have a listing on XDA Forums. And I have yet to hear of ROM support for it.
It looks like a promising device. I wish they'd have stuck with the ONE brand name, but that's just a minor quibble. Unless something else hits in the latter part of this year that strikes my interest, this might be my next device (coming from the OG EVO).
Personally I was bit disappointed yesterday, after hearing that sprint would be possibly getting a one-x. I was hoping that they would have kept the one-x the way it was with the two extras that they added. I guess I just wanted something fresh in the aesthetics department as well as specs but o well. I also think that if they had stayed with the look of the one-x that the possibility of more sales could have come from just the looks of a new phone. Customers that dont really care about internals are going to see this 4gLTE one might not be pleased.
Overall, it looks like a decent phone. I'm personally not happy with the sealed battery/case. So I will wait to see if the Samsung Galaxy 3S also has a sealed battery/case before making a decision which phone will replace my Evo OG. Of course, I won't look at either until there is broad LTE coverage in Atlanta. So probably 2014 at this rate.
Defiantly not buying it.

You can do it on an Evo 4G by simultaneously pressing the power, volume up and volume down buttons. So I would assume the new Evo would also have a way to do it. Worse case, you have to wait for your battery to drain.
I'm pretty excited about it! And fyi the front cam is 1.3 mp and its capable of 720p video. I'm not really big on the design, but the features look to be enough of an upgrade to my og evo to warrant paying $200 for the upgrade.
