will all mods and custom roms in this forum work with all variant of the google nexus s?
No
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
No. We have GSM and 4G Nexus S's. Which can be further broken down in models. i90203, i9020a, and i9020t. Carefully read about the mod you are using make sure it works on your model of the Nexus S. You can check the model by removing the battery cover. If you install a mod (or ROM) that isn't for your Nexus S you can brick your phone, or if you're lucky you will only get tossed in a boot loop. Remember to always confirm that whatever you are installing is compatible with your phone.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
AOKP (Milestone 4)
Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (Lionheart)
Live OC (100 - Noop)
v6 Supercharged
That's right! And always:
Backup your data
Backup your EFS folder
Nandroid backup

Scores, as I understand, will vary based in your various settings, like power saver, plus whatever else you may have running. Unless you set a specific baseline (using this rom, this kernel, these settings, only these apps, etc) comparisons are useless.
We know at the end of the day that right now the gn2 is going to hit near the top.

Do kernels labeled (3g + wifi) mean it's only for the 3G N7?
And why do some threads say you need to flash boot.img and such?
They're not twrp flashable?
Simple question. Sorry I'm confined to mobile no decent search.
I know this is probably a very stupid question...
Thanks in advance!

If kernels are labeled 3G+Wifi it means it can be used by both devices (wifi and 3g available). The boot.img is flashed so that you have the latest bootloader, for the newer kernels only support the latest.

Most kernels are .zip file so they must be flashed with recovery(TWRP, CWM), the boot.img file is kernel (ex: Franco kernel, stock... ) that must be flashed with fastboot mode.

Hey everyone... Just got home from buying my nexus 4... rooted a few minutes ago and got pa installed. Some of the kernels I used on my galaxy nexus aren't here which I'm sure will be OK.... Are there any kernels that stand out above the others in any way?
Thanks for the help!

I'm using Franco Milestone M1 kernel. Seems to be a great combo with PA with about 4.5-5 hrs of SOT. But try other kernel for yourself and see which one is best for you.

I have tried every kernel here, and the best one that works for me is the enhanced stock kernel. Can under clock, under volt and is the snappiest one . Battery life is good too, plus touch control also works

It is the enhanced 4.2.2 stock kernel by Faux, you can download it from the first page of his thread.
Yes, it should work fine with .33 radio and LTE.

that has nothing to do with flashing kernels. dont listen to anyone that says they recommend to, theyre clueless. btw, try trinity kernel. and while youre at it, every kernel here is good. find the one that fills your needs and that your device likes best.
OP as pointed out....
Thanks
I've tried 3 different kernels and they've bootlooped me! Anyone rogers, telus or bell using kernel that works for their stock Rom?
Thanks!

The kt kernel is auto loki'd so it doesn't work with Canadian variants. I'm on Rogers and am using faux 003. It should work just make sure you download the right one from the thread as there's like 8 versions for all the different variants. Also for the Canadian variants there's 2 003 kernels, one is m and the other is u. I'm using the m one
done! Using faux kernel. Works good.

I noticed these are all TW kernels, anyone using any AOSP jfltecan kernels, is there even any? I am disappointed by the development of Canadian roms and kernels... I better start learning myself I guess..

If you look at the CM 10.1 thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275545 It has a specific Canadian variant build which will include a CM capable kernel to run that will not be loki'd and will not result in a bootloop.
Then we have slim bean : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273359 Which is specifically developed for Canadian variants as well, again this will flash a AOSP/AOKP capable kernel with the rom that is not loki'd and will work
However the following rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293162 is pre-loki'd so installing this will get you in to a boot loop.
Hopefully this helps.

do u have any issue with using the dual shot mode. im running omega v9 and using the faux kernel that u are using and everytime i go to dual shot, the camera is unresponsive and lags like crazy
So i just rooted my Nexus 7 and also, i installed CWM. I want to flash CyanogenMod ROM (cm-10.1.3-RC2-grouper) and i'm wondering what gapps i need? I'm really confused about the file i need.
Also, tell me if i'm right I copy the files on my Nexus7 (ROM and GAPPS). I boot into recovery and flash first the rom than the gapps. Before, i do the wipe to be sure it won't bootloop.
Right?
Any4.2 gapps will do, also afaik them emulated sdcard wont be wiped. Any reason you're not trying 4.3?

The ROM doesn't control the over clock. You need to look into kernels.
