So, i made a backup the other day, to flash a new rom, and i didnt like it and reverted to stock. now for some reason, my market/play store is gone. i thought this could be fixed by just downloading an APK and installing it like that. but this didnt help, all it does is open the app, and crash immediatly.
anyone have an idea wtf is happening? im runnin CyanogemMod9 RC-0 btw.

one does not simply install market
1. you have to download the market apk
2. get a root explorer
3. get in /system/app
4. mount in rw
5. rename vending.apk to vending.apk1
6. go to your market apk
7. copy it to /system/app
8. rename it to vending.apk
9. tap and hold to select set permissions
10. set it to (topleft) (topmid) (midleft) (bottomleft)
11. restart your phone
12 wait a bit

I've had some time to make a small but useful app. It just took me an hour (including some Eclipse crashes), so maybe it still has bugs.
It basically lets you choose (when choosing the app you want to install) where you want to install EACH INDIVIDUAL app.
YOU NEED ROOT IN ORDER TO USE THIS APP!
Example/Screenshots:
INFO: You won't find this app on your homescreen. It's hidden, you can only choose it when installing an app (like on the first screenshot)
NOTE: This is only really useful for Froyos own A2SD implementation. If you are using A2SD+, it's not really useful (since the internal storage "links" to the ext partition on the SD card.)
There are some limitations though...
1) It does NOT work when installing apps through Market. (automatically starts the standard package installer, blame Google)
2) It does NOT work when installing apps through ADB. (same as 1.)
3) It does NOT work when installing apps through Astro (same again. Blame the developer, he hardcoded the call to the standard package installer into his app)
Every other way installing apps should work though. (Apps downloaded with the browser, mail attachments, Linda, OI File Manager, AndroZip, etc.)
So please try the app and tell me if it's useful (and working) for you.
CHANGELOG:
30.7.2010: First version
30.7.2010: Removed unneeded permissions, added cancel button, cleaned up code.
1.8.2010: Fixed for the new (rooted) official HTC Froyo update.
22.8.2010: Recoded from scratch, should now work on every (rooted) ROM.
looks nice...
Does this do the same thing as A2SD+?? i.e Get the full app on the SD card instead of the partial install built into Froyo?
If yes, then it's great!!

It allows you to choose the install location, nothing more and nothing less.
You should know, the only "advantage" of A2SD+ is that the cache files get saved to the SD card. And that is not good for the SD life cycle and phone performance.
Nice work.

Maybe you can ask Adam if he wants to include my app in his OpenDesire ROM.
BTW: Uploaded an updated version, cleaned up the code and removed unneeded permissions.

Super Arbeit und vielen Dank dafür, es erfüllt seinen Job seit knapp 9 Stunden ohne Probleme. Ein Frage habe ich, und zwar, warum liest das App die Anrufe aus?
/german mode off
thx for sharing
Es liest nur den Status, keine Nummern oder sonst etwas, wird wohl für die Erkennung des apk Dateityps gebraucht. Komisch, da ich die Permission eig ausm Manifest gelöscht hab. Versuchs mal mit der neuen Version.
Translation: It's probably needed for the apk filetype. It's strange since I've already removed the permission from the manifest.
Thank you.
This looks excellent and just what I was waiting for before re-rooting

My app requests superuser permission automatically. Usualy the phone should show a dialog where you can choose to give the app these permissions.. as long as your phone is rooted of course.

SDK? You mean the android developer SDK? What has that got to do with my app?
Does anyone have them and successfully installed them on the X?
I personally haven't tried them yet. Will let you know how they run on the X.

What method did you use? The update.zip method or did you move the .apk file into the system? I tried the update.zip on my rooted X with the stock ROM and it did nothing.
Edit: I just moved the livewallpaper.apk file into system/app and it still didn't work. Maybe the Fission ROM adds something that lets it work?
Its only one live wallpaper. I manually moved it but don't forget to set permissions.
I used the update.zip file and it shows under live wallpapers as nexus.
Neither the update.zip or manually moving the apk installed this. Im on Apex 1.3 currently.
After you move the Nexus livewallpapers.apk to /system/app make sure to change it's permissions to User: R/W, Group: R, Others: R. After changing permissions, simply reboot and it'll automatically install.
By the way, make a backup of your original livewallpapers.apk (just rename it to livewallpapers.bak or something) before moving over the Nexus version.

The Nexus one is the only one I could get to install. I had to use Fission Rom Manager to load Microbe.
You need to make sure to mount your system before the install as others have said. It might be worth downloading the update.zip again to be certain the full file downloaded.
Just throwing out ideas.
And since it wasn't in the thread this is what microbe looks like. It's pretty cool. you tap to put those little white dots on the screen. the red blue green and yellow microbes swim around eating it getting bigger then budding off into more little guys. there's actually kind of a lot going on. I think that's why it runs a little slower.

Installation:
1. Reboot to Recovery
2. Mount System
3. Flash zip file
If the for some reason the CWM zip didn't work for you or the Keyboard doesn't appear in settings do this:
1. Decompress the zip file.
2. Ignore the META-INF folder
3. In the app folder, you'll find textinput-chn.apk (Mandarin Chinese keyboard) and textinput-tng.apk (English keyboard).
4. You can move one or both into /system/app folder with ES File Manager/root explorer/etc. (or adb)
5. Move lib/libXT9Engine into /system/lib
6. Move usr/xt9 into /system/usr
7. Reboot. If you still don't see the keyboard in your settings, install the apk with your file manager which should work with the libraries installed.

Either reflash the rom you are on or extract to files from the rom and transfer them to your phone.
Just reflash the rom it won't wipe anything.
You should ask for this
Ask for the apk to somebody who has the same s.o and phone, it should serve i think , because you didn't a backup of that.
Which baseband version do you have?
Request - need Stock Camera App and advice on reinstalling
I THINK I have a similar problem.. firstly some Phone details
About Phone:
GT-I9505 (rooted) KNOX: 0x1
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version:I9505XXUEMK8
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-2082040
Build Number: JSS15J.I9505XXUEMK8
FYI, I HAD to root & install a ROM due to a **** up on a Samsung update that 'broke' my WiFi & Samsung Customer Helpdesk was totally useless in helping me - All they kept saying was 'download KNOX App & install/remove... HOW could I without WiFi ??
I can't remember where I got the ROM from & don't have a copy of it either - so can't really 'reflash' over the existing ROM
[ BTW I ALWAYS though Flashing wipes everything from the phone.. so didn't really want to start from scratch reinstalling everything]
Basically I did the same thing.. deleted the default camera from '/system/apps' (iirc) because I found 'Quickpic' and 'Open Camera' a smaller/better combination (of course I totally forgot to make a backup - stupid I know). However, recently I wanted to add photos to some newly added contacts - but I can't as it seems that I may've mucked up the phone
Here's what happens:
> Open Contacts
> Select the name
> IF I tap the photo box here & select 'Image' or ''Picture by People' I get 'No Pictures are available on the phone"
Otherwise
> IF I tap the pen (edit) icon THEN tap the photo box, followed by 'Image' or ''Picture by People', I get 'Application Not Found' popup message
I'm suspecting it because it's looking for the only App that is 'photo related' that I removed when 'debloating' my phone - ie the default Stock camera/Gallery app
I DON'T know how to 'extract from app a rom' (not even sure where I got the ROM from that I had to flash in the past), so I'm hoping that someone can supply the required files - which, in turn, I'm HOPING all I have to do is copy back into the '/system/app' folder & it'll 'fix' this problem.
I'm sure the experts on here can help in advising on what I can do (if anything)
Any help would be appreciated & thanks in advance

Hi, I have the same issue...with apk downloaded from apkmirror....anyone with a solution?
Rename the original apk in /system/priv-app/SecGallery2015/SecGallery2015.apk to something else..(i.e. .bak)
Copy the new apk you downloaded into that same folder/directory and rename to SecGallery2015.apk (change permissions if necessary)
Reboot
Profit
Yeah I have the same problem. I used to update my apps by downloading apks and installing. Now it gives me different errors. Parse error, corrupted file error and same name error. I am not rooted. Does anyone have a solution for that?
Try uninstall the old update

for non rooted users, the only way to intall updated samsung apps. is to factory reset your phone. remind that it deletes all your data stored on internal memory

How about flashing fonts, aod themes, can i flash it even if i'm not rooted?
Well, this is not a solution, is more likely a work around, I have tested it twice, and it worked, last try was today, and worked flawlessly, but you have to excercise lots of patience, first of all my S7 edge is not rooted, so this solution is the way to go for non-rooted users, here is what I have done:
1.- I have disabled Automatic System Update and Scheduled update under Software updates menu.
2.- (Here comes the patience part) I check manually for system updates, when the system finds an update, it will start downloading it, here you have two options:
A.- Pause the download, or
B.- Wait for the download to finish, but, DO NOT INSTALL IT YET.
3.- Look for the updates you want to install (apkmirror.com for example) download all the updated apk's you wish to install.
4.- Depending on the option you took on step two, unpause the download and Install update, or just install it, if it has already been downloaded, and wait for the system to restart normally.
5.- Once the system restarts, go to Storage settings and clear cache.
6.- After clearing cache, yu will be able to install the updated apk's, for how long you will be able to do it, I do not know, but I have been able to install as much as 15 updates succesfully, I do not know if this installation window is time related or if it is related to a certain number of restarts procedures.
7.- Finally, and this last step is iut of pure caution, restart your device to recovery mode, go to clear cache and accept, then reboot to system.
This is the process that I do in order to apply updates, and it has worked for my.
I hope you find this information useful.
Best regards!
