Are there any PC remote control app? Something similar to the team viewer app for iphone or another one?
Thanks!
Gmote 2.0 is kind of a remote app, mainly for media though.
It allows you to search through your files of your pc, from your phone,
and either play them on your pc, or on your phone. Has normal, play pause volume settings.
I.e. if i have an episode of family guy on my pc, i can use my phone to play it on my pc, which means i can be lazy and not move off my bed and watch it.
Also if i fancy doing it the other way round, i can stream the episode to my phone.
Only works over a local wi-fi though.
Thanks for this Phil, it's incredible and free!
It works perfectly on my Desire and Windows 7 PC (even though the installation instructions say XP/Vista).
No problemo
Only annoying thing is i cant stream most of my videos to my phone , buts that not the app fault, its fact there mostly .avi .
Great little app for us lazy people! Very useful when your watch a series of something with 20 mins episodes and you cant cant be bothered to get up and go the next one!
If any of you use MCE try myRemote, its awesome!
GRemote Pro is also awesome, not free though...
Thanks for your suggestions but I was looking for something more than just file browsing and running applications, more like having my PC desktop displayed and the mouse controllable on my desire's display.
GRemote Pro will allow you to control your mouse cursor and type etc, but won't display your PC desktop, you're talking about remote desktop software, not remote software.
For that try the LogMeIn free beta, or PhoneMyPC.

I can Highly recommend Gmote.
Tried it today on Ubuntu desktop machine and It's awesome!
Logmein is already available. Teamviewer is still in dev.
phonemypc is awesome. The execute Actions feature allows me (with the help of the app developer), to open a MS Access database on my pc with one button press. When that database is opened it automatically runs macros within Access.
I then press another button from my Android to close the MS Access database on my PC. You can of course remotely control your PC from your android. However, as mentioned above it is the ability to one button press an action that can be a bat file on your PC.
Excellent and well worth the money IMHO
If it's a remote desktop app you're after, have you tried RDP Client or PocketCloud?
UnifiedRemote looks pretty good.

Hi @all!
Teamviewer beta is out.
Can't giva a link, but it's on there side to download and not yet in the market.
Here's the official link : http://www.teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewer.apk
It's an awesome app, I must admit. It works really good.

TeamViewer beta 6.x both for desktop and phone work excellent! Pretty much exactly what I was after for months.
Initially, their front page ad scared me. Some Indian and Philippine fraudsters were using the same ad on their websites with a different edited product name which looks very similar overall (and the same blue website theme). They were phoning UK/US homes disguised as a legit business trying to get you to install such a product on your PC with lofty offers in return (free software, movies, etc). The product allowed them to basically take over your Windows machine without you realizing.

I don't want to get into the details of my upcoming presentation, I'm not in sales. We're looking into potential tools in my workplace. I need suggestions for reasons why the Evo is an ideal smart phone. I've already outlined the obvious (Android's apps, large screen, 4G, fast...) and I DO NOT want to compare it with the iPhone.
I'm looking for bells and whistles (because of my target audience), things that other phones can't do--stupid cell phone tricks like, using your laptop remotely with your android device, that sort of thing...
I just need a few suggestions... thanks.
-jac
** I can't root the phone either.
I always get the best reaction out of Layar and Google Sky.
everytime i show phonemypc app to my coworkers they freak. might give that a look worth the 10 bucks
Presentation you say? How about HDMI?
Plug your phone into a massive projector or TV.
Then play a video on youtube about some features and you're good.
Also mobile hotspots/tethering means people can connect to your phone through wifi and use your 3G-4G internet on any device.
It has an err kickstand.
If you really wanted to you could run a desktop operating system on it, though you would need to root..
8MP camera for great still shots in ample lit rooms.
Some cool games in the market.
Of course theres flash!!
Can't think of anything else right now..
if we're talking stock unrooted, i really like the intergration sense did with contacts/facebook/twitter/gmail. i also show off the kickstand (it gets more oooh/aaah reactions than i expected).
tethering and a good cellular signal (lol you'd be surprised how many people ask me that) also comes up.
Show them Proxoid and explain the free tethering if they root.
Get a copy of LogMeIn Beta (it's floating around on here...) and show it.
Qik/Fring video chat
Google Voice
Google Maps + Navigation (If any of the people you're showing to are travelers/sales, show them the turn-by-turn navigation on the BIG screen, for free.)
SwiftKey and Swype
Voice Dial/Search
Gesture Search
Show them all their Google stuff syncs to it (email, contacts, etc.) so if they lose their phone, it breaks, whatever, they still have everything important.
Dropbox (Very useful for sales, doing presentations and whatnot)
Just let them use it for a little while, the EVO sells itself
How about voice-to-text feature.
Show them the screen; all 4.3 inches
if they are iphone users, show them you can install an app from the sd card without rooting your phone, the turn by turn is good to show off, facebook intergration, high quailty youtube vids,
Tell them how it f*cking prints money, builds you an island, and then flies you to it
All kidding aside, the kickstand is a huge one. If you're in a 4G area, big seller there, notification LED for missed calls/texts/emails/etc, front camera, HDMI if you have a good TV there.
Take off the battery cover and show them the MANLAND hiding inside!

Ok, PhoneMyPC is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. That is an intense app. Thanks, I'd never heard of it. I'll try it tonight.
RemoteDroid - use your phone as a trackball keyboard to control your computer on the same wifi network, useful for powerpoint presentations etc (it's also been recently open sourced)
USB webcam - although in its infancy, allows you to use the evo's camera as a webcam on your pc. Its choppy, but it works if you're in a pinch.
Touchdown - An email client with activesync support for exchange accounts, one of the only mail apps that allowed me to access mail at work
Rockplayer - Plays a variety of multimedia files without the need to recompress, simply drag/drop to sdcard and play
Astrid tasks - An open source todo list manager that you can schedule notifications for, also has a widget for easy viewing of pending tasks.
PureCalendar - Self explanatory
Gmote.
With Gmote, you can use your phone as a remote control for your PC or laptop, including using it as a keyboard if you want. I use it often for PowerPoint presentations.

And one of those wishes can be for an iPhone 4 with the bigger geebees, the whyfies, and the three-gees. And it has apps.
TiKL - push to talk function to other Android phones for free.
Check out my thread:

Cool apps not found in market and some great unknown apps that are in the market. You'll get some cool ideas here as well as download links.
Don't forget to highlight Google Maps & Navigation...as it's hands down the best maps GPS application out there BAR NONE - and it's free.
A few people also mentioned this, but the text-to-speech integration is also insanely cool.
And Swype (or really swapping out any stock keyboard) is a nice touch, as most phones are locked to a single input type.
If your phone is rooted, it also wouldn't hurt to use ShootMe or the other screenshot app I'm drawing a blank on ATM...I believe you can even remotely display the phone interface on a PC, which does wonders for any kind of presentation.
Then there's the cheese - games, live wallpaper.
This is using the app Onlive Desktop, available in the market but daftly "not compatible"
Alternative download links near the bottom of this android police page:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-and-more-hands-on/#download-and-availability
OK so download the app from android police.
go to the onlive website, sign up for an account, ignore the USA only nonsense, it works fine in uk.
install the app, sign in, and you get, windows desktop with Office.
you can minimise, resize windows, spell check works, its fast and smooth and the most awesome app i have ever seen - it ROCKS
You need to pay $5 per month for internet explorer but Office is free with 2gb dropbox storage.
Pics attached!!!!!!
wow. That's cool. Works well.
Anyone have it working with the keyboard dock??
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Keyboard dock works perfectly.
The back key works like the ESC button in excel for example.
shortcuts work in word too.
The 2gb storage is not dropbox btw, its onlive's own servers. There is only 1 save place in the app which auto syncs with their cloud storage on the onlive servers, which is not connected to your transformers file structure.
So to open apps on your computer you have to go to:
http://files.onlive.com where you login again and use a web interface to upload, download, delete, rename.
I did this in dolphin browser - you cant do this from within the app, you have to use an alternate browser.
Makes it a bit harder to keep all your files synced etc but i think they are working on improving the storage / saving relationship so it will be like ubuntu and share your data - who knows if or when though!
only thing i have found missing - no macros in excel, you cant open the VBA coding pages or bring up a macro tab or recording ability. not the end of the world but would have been nice!
website interface pic attached:
how did you get the dock to work?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
not sure what you mean? Is your dock not doing anything at all in Onlive?
I just started typing and using the trackpad, nothing special, it was always working.
try restarting or maybe unplugging and replugging your dock into the tablet to see if that does it.
Got it to work had to uninstall the app and reinstall
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
I wish there was a way to change the keyboard language then its will be perfect
Well, you can change the language allright (I tried Word in french) but the keyboard layout seems to be impossible to enable... so as much as I like the concept, this app is useless for me, as I just can't type in french...
Must be the reason why it is not available in my country, according to the Market.
Does networking work on it? Is there any way to get another browser on it without having to pay for IE?
It's nice but the novelty wears off pretty quick IMO. The features are too limited. I would rather use splashtop to stream my own win 7.

Agree Nice to have a familiar page to work on, but unless you have wifi access it is useless. Several other tools offer many of the functions, without the strings attached. Also company not clear about security of your saved docs.
The transformer is compatible if you install by going to market.android.com in your browser and pushing the install to your device. Weird, but it works.

It should be compatible from the market on the tablet that's how I got it.
External mouse seems to work OK but the right-click was not working properly (at all). Scroll wheel wasn't working either.
If anyone is paying for the plus features can you install programs on it?
I heard you can but that would be awesome if you could use steam or something or install onlive.. (lol)
It might be a really limited version of windows 7 but if you can install programs that's pretty cool. I have a macbook unfortunately so I think it's really cool being able to play around with windows 7 even if it's not full featured. And to give onlive credit. Quite a few of those "touch screen" tablet like windows 7 devices run around $1,000 or so. I've played with a few at the MS Store. Not everyone might have a use for this but I'l sure some will and it's just really cool to be able to do.
I too would only be interested in this if I can use some of my familiar windows apps, like photoshop and after effects..that would be the only reason if onlive can get these apps installed and working on my TF, otherwise I will stick with splashtop and just remote to my home-based PC.

Then OnLive will have to pay Adobe a ton of licensing fee, which will be passed down to the users, or resort to using advertisements.
Either way, I am not willing to pay a fee or deal with advertisements to use programs that I already have(not gonna say own, lol) on my personal computer.
i have just used word and excel to prep a finance report, works fine. Bit slower and clunkier than doing it on a PC, but if you dont have a PC and therefore cannot use splashtop then this is a decent solution.
i needed to use both word and excel, you just cannot do that in polaris - it only allows 1 type of document open at once so you can flick between the two.
i tried using kingsoft office but you cant even do bullet points in its word, and its excel cant even do formulas lol
so for me to use word and excel, onlive is the only way and it worked fine, even if a bit slower than an actual PC.
thumbs up from me!
First off,
Congrats GOOG, looks like we have a great (and affordable) tablet to play with! Some of the issues like missing SD, HDMI (has this been confirmed?) are really no big deal for me, 16GIG is huge, cheap storage is really spoiling us
Second,
I haven't used an Android product yet (this will be my first), moved from my amazing Motorola E6 (it was Linux/EZX based, a rooted device ran most linux ported apps for EZX, xmms baby) to the slick Nokia E71, and to Apple (currently on 4S). I have always known that Android is the way, but didn't move (too many choices in hardware?)
Ques 1) Will all Android market place apps work on the Nexus Tablet? I have seen some power apps (incredibly we have Total Commander port for android, Christian rocks, waiting for Alex to release DC port now)
Ques 2) How well do android spread sheet applications work on Tablets? Has anyone really stress tested complex excel / open office functions on Tablets? How will a spreadsheet feel on a 7 inch? Can I open Spreadsheets from email, edit, save a copy and send back on the fly?
Ques 3) Do you guys login in to remote VNC sessions using your tablet? What has been your experience on Android tablets? Is it smooth? My wife uses an iPad, and we use that to remote control a laptop connected to our LCD, I hate the experience
Ques 4) I intend to use this tablet for a lot of reading (black background, grey text), will Nexus 7 have any application that could render PDF text having unicode UTF-8 fonts + ability to reflow the text so that it fits the page width? I haven't seen any such application in the Apple iOS space, but incredibly Adobe did this on Symbian (UTF-8 with text reflow).
Quest 5) How do Android tablets fair in terms of productivity tools? (PIM, Task Management, Email, Reminders)
... I actually have a bunch of more questions, but I guess I will have to hold until we get more reviews of the Nexus 7.
Oops... I didn't realize my Sony T1 reader is an Android device. So this makes Nexus 7 my second, my bad.
Besides, *bump*

2) In my experience the basic excel functions work (sum, avg, etc.) I have had trouble with some of the more technical ones, and IIf statements do not work at all.
3) If you are talking about remote desktop...it still sucks.
5) I like android for productivity there are lots of apps and widgets, and they claim there is even newer and better stuff in 4.1 that this tablet will take advantage of.
Welcome to Android! Unfortunately I'm new to the tablet space, but I can answer your first question.
1) Android apps were made to be versatile. Well coded apps (key word there), will usually scale correctly according to what screen size you have. So a dev who makes a good phone app, should have it scale to a tablet screen.
Unfortunately, the lack of Android tablet success has led to a lack of "tablet specific" layouts for apps. So tablet users tend to have blown up versions of phone apps instead of UI's that take advantage of the extra real estate. But I think the success of the Nexus 7 might change a few developers minds.....
Edit- So just to clarify, most market apps will work on both phones and tablets. Unfortunately the wide variety of devices out there means you are much more likely to get occasional compatibility issues. Just a sacrifice you have to make for all the choice Android offers.

Actually if N7 can do Google docs without the horrible text box (save / cancel) rendering for individual cell edits, I would be very comfortable. Google docs is fully portable with my Open Office (Libre Office) sheets.

Nope, VNC as in running a TighVNC server on Windows/Linux and accessing it using a VNC client from the tablet. I am worried now, with my wife's iPad, I at-least get real estate to vent my frustration on, with 7 inch I may need a wall next to me (to bang my head on)

I have been looking around for an eink android tablet.
Is the NST the only option?
I understand that the screen refresh rate severely limits what you can do, but i was wondering if it is otherwise possible to run all apps?
As far as I could find, none of the other eink ereaders (Amazon Kindle, Kobo) can be rooted / made to run regular android apps.

You can also choose a 13.3" epaper tablet from sony:

I believe that neither Kindle or Kobo run android. They use a proprietary OS so, no rooting on them.

there is the boyue t62 and the boyue t61 the Icarus illumina is a rebrand of the boyue t61. they run android 4.2 I think I am considering getting one myself but android L coming out in a month and that's supposed to be for low power and android one is for low costs devices so I am starting to like the idea of an android one device with eink so I kind of want to wait.
There have been several readers released recently that run "open" andriod. There is the Onyx Boox T68 and the Icarus Illumina HD. You can find a comparision review of both readers here
@andTab, you are right about the refresh rate problem, but there is a way around it: NoRefresh enabler. It's a great alternative and it works nicely, too.
The only eink tablet?
Not at all. For example the Onyx Boox T68 comes with Android 4.0, a higher resolution display, more RAM, a faster processor
and is already open (no root required).
But the NST is by far one of the cheapest EINK devices running Android

Right. It's not even that bad for being the cheapest.
And cheap is always good.
otg support
do we know if any of the above android eink ereaders like onyx boox or boyuee T61 , T62 support usb host function - otg?? Nowhere is mentioned exactly and is very critical for my application to add a usb smartcard reader..
Take a look at Meet Earl project, it's not out jet, but looks very promising. I can't post links, look for youtube video - it will explain everything. Nook is the best tech thing I've bought. After Earl it will be second...
Boyue T62
I just rooted and set up a Boyue T62 for an avid reader. I used an exposed module to have the page up and page down buttons trigger Tasker tasks that input screen taps, making the buttons work in pretty much every reader app. It misfires on occasion, but the user says it happens so rare that it's not even an inconvenience.
The experience of reader apps as reported by her:
Built in "Books" app for non DRM books - Works flawlessly, but finding books stored in the card isn't as user friendly as it should be.
Cool Reader - works great after you tweak the options
Nook - Nearly flawless, but there is bug with the front light. If stuck on, use light icon in the tray to turn it off. Very minor inconvenience. Page turns are slower than an actual nook, but still well within reason.
Kindle - Sluggish, but once a book is loaded, works great.
Kobo - Unusably slow, but who uses Kobo anyway?
Various "Free ebooks" apps - most work great!
PDF - not tested yet.
Other apps useful on eInk
Flipboard - Usable
"Internet" - Great for pages that have a lot of text.
Built in Email - Flawless
IHeartRadio - Flawless, excellent for music to read to
Keyring - Set up and Tutorial look like crap, but it works flawlessly after that. She had this app on a hacked Nook before, and she has yet to find a barcode scanner that can't read an e-ink screen!
Google+ - Fails to install
Google Plus mobile site - works well
Dictionary.com app - Fails to install
Play Music - Fails to launch
Facebook Lite - works well
Facebook regular app - not tested
Google Keep - Works well, but color options, obviously, are quite limited. She just uses what we assume is the default yellow, which displays clearly.
Rounder - Looked AWESOME with the victorian corners she likes, but it interfered with the tasker set up I used for the page buttons.
If you're interested, e-mail me [email protected], and I'll give you the code and screen coordinates to use in tasker for the buttons, and the name of the exposed module I used to connect tasker to the buttons. I don't have the reader in front of me, I'll ask her for it for a second to get that for you. It's configed so the page turns are screen taps on click, volume on long press. The refresh button is standard refresh on press, standard back light toggle on long press, and brightness options on double press. Power key is standard power on press, power menu on long press, and screenshot on double press. Interestingly enough, screen shots are color when sent to a color device. I wasn't expecting that. The double press for the backlight options is a fantastic work around for the backlight bug in the Nook app.
When I see her, I'll see if her boyue supports USB host.
