I have T-Mobile HD2 with T-mobile logo and colored buttons. But ram size and device memory size shown low in hardware info. I have 2.0.8 HSPL.
Is this a fake T-Mobile..
Hardware info:
RAM: 403 MB
Device Memory:663MB
SD:14,2 GB
running android? all hd2's show around 400 - 411 meg ram when running android.
Also, the first 128 meg is taken by the graphics hardware, so it is only showing 40meg lower than expected, not 160+
Yes andoroid is running on it, I read about 128MB ram but still 40 MB is lost. and why device memory is 663MB . mgldr and clockwordmod is also installed , is it related with them. Is there a way to see the physicall memory from android .
thanks for the replies

only the data partition gets counted towards internal storage memory

im still a newbie for android so im a bit confused....
just got my x10 from rogers and so far im quite happy with it. im rather confused about the internal memory though. the x10 is advsertized at having 1gig of internal storage and about 384mb of ram. under settings-->sd card and phone storage, the available space for internal memory is around 409 mbs. i dont have much in here yet except for a few basic apps so i dont know where the rest of this space went to.
secondly im getting mixed info on the available ram. i got the taskiller app and after killing all apps (except for clock, batterylife, calendar), it tells me i have 155m available(dont know if this the total ram available). where was the other memory being used? i downloaded an app called peak memory usage which gives a breakdown of all apps running and how much memory they consume and it tells me there the total ram on phone which does not match the proposed memory size on the add. the detail that i saw were as follows:
total: 268
avail:143
active: 89
inactive: 90
furthermore these numbers doesnt seem to be adding up.
can someone please advise my on this. am i just missing something here? what happened to the rest of my ram and internal storage? is there an app out there to get more accurate info on this? any help would be appreciated. thanks

well i have similar issues.. may be sumone could help...
I also have a similar question. Not sure why there is only 268 of total memory in the x10.
I might be able to answer one question. The 1ggb of internal memory is not for storing only, it also contains the actuall Android OS therefor only giving about half of that to play around with and i belive this will furthermore fill up when future Android 2.x update arrives.
Cheers!
hi, i also have same question..
i recently installed program called "Android System Info"
it clearly says :
Internal Memory
Max: 465.0Mo Free: 336.9Mo
RAM
Max: 268Mo Free: 87Mo
you see is not 1 GB internal memory...., is this another lack from 1.6 android????
I don't know about 1Gb internal but i know that android 1.6 can access only 268Mb memory and after the upgrade to 2.x the phone will have access to all 384Mb of RAM.
Are you talking about the 1GHZ of processor confusing it with 1Gb internal storage?
I beleive so..
rogers site shows 1gb internal as well gsm arena shows it as 1gb internal memory

yeah that what i mean...
in gsm arena site it says 1 Gb internal memory.....
when comparing the hd2 with other devices with only 512 mb ram on system info it hd2 shows (422mb ) on other devices it shows (488) which is higher also hd2 has 576 mb ram which is higher than 512 , that makes me believe that 576 is not really functioning on android
I supose, the 40 or 60mb remaining, are for graphics memory, or system proceces.
I'm not sure.
But if now dont have 575mb... never we get all the ram

it is more tahn 40 to 6o we are missing allot about 154 mb ram , i will ask at the desire forum and know what they get (as same ram amount as hd2 )
i beleave there are a few ppl out there who have the full 575 mb running. One big but thoug u wil need a radio with the 575 mb in windows mobile. If not your phone is soft locked on the 488mb

does radio in wimdows mobile has any thing to do with ram amount in android , can any one confirm having more than 422 mb ram when using 576 mb enabled roms
Hey there!
I've read, that the gt540 comes with 256mb ram, but you can only access ~160mb on stock roms. Is there any way I can unlock the remaining ram without installing a custom rom? (I have the 2.1 stock rom) Thanks for any replies
Sorry, It only has 128MB of RAM.

That's wrong. It has 256mb. You can only access 160mb, because the rest is used by system I think.

Actually, I was wrong, it has 158 MB of RAM. and 139 is available to user.

If it had 256mb ram
LG Would of Released Android 2.2 if the GT540 had 256mb of ram. Proof, LG Optimus One
Our phone has 256mb of ram, but we are able to use only 160 beacose the rest of it goes to video chip for rendering. In lg optimus one video chip have his own ram.

It does not have 256MB of RAM, otherwise we would have well over 100MB of free memory w/o odexing 2.2.

Lear to read system can use only 160 beacose rest is reserved for graphic and other components. You will never see this ram. In our phone memory chip is 256MB and that is a fact.
its possible to hack into the system and change the amount of MB's. but it can only add like 5 mb, and i am not gonna spend my time hacking my hardware to add 5 mb

Actually, there is no way to physically hack the RAM to give you more, it's just not possible. Although it is possible to add virtual memory, but this will kill your phones Internal NAND Memory or SDCard quicker as the read/write cycles will increase dramatically.

I am wondering what is the deal with our HD2 (TMOUS version I have), supposedly our phones have 576mb of ram internally, but on every rom I have tried I am limiting to something much lower according to running services or quaddrant system info, I have flashed 2.15.50.14 radio which is supposed to have the 576mb of ram, from my understanding the phone shares 128mb of ram for video which leaves 448mb to use but I don't even have that according to running services. According to my phone I am using 90mb of ram and 292mb are free which is a grand total of 382mb of ram my phone has access to, where is the other ram?? I am getting really frustrated searching google and stuff trying to find answers, I know its a difference of about 64mb that I think im missing here but its the principle that our phones should have 576mb of ram and im over here getting 382 on every rom I try. Anyone have some ideas on this??
I would like to add that I just checked quadrant system information and this is what it says.
Memory:
Total: 421004 KB
Free: 172356 KB
Inactive: 46692 KB
Doesn't this mean about 50mb of ram is inactive? I don't understand the deal with that.
The missing ram is taken by the GPU.
Please reread my post completely, I think you missed something, I covered the gpu using some of the ram in my original post.
i would say those figures are 421MB total ram, 172MB out of 421MB is genuinely free, and 46MB is loaded with apps that have stopped but not been unloaded from memory.
Example, mine says
421004
80228
85188
i start a few programs and go back to quadrant, and it changes to
421004
85140
88916
As mentioned, the graphics chipset takes up 128 meg, and it grabs it before the OS has even loaded, so it never sees it, so you start with 448MB total. For some reason Android loses 25 or so MB, and so we all (tmous and regular) show total RAM as 422 or so.
As said the system and the GPU takes it. Come on do you think the guys who made linux would really be as stupid as to just leave out some ram for no one to use or for it not be used? Or any person who makes an operating system?
What is the total amount of space that is showing in the 16 GB version?
For Me (Stock Rom - Rooted - Clockwork Recovery)
It shows 12.96GB, which seems a lot less than it should be.
4gb is reserved for android os
12.96 is right.
kinda like how RAM is advertised as 2GB
it is really ~1.8GB of RAM
It's the correct amount, everyone gets the same. Android system reserves way to much in my opinion.

Still, 3GB is a bit over-reserved?
/dev, for example, is 936MiB and only 32KB is used :-/
Remember that the advertised storage capacity is in decimal notation, whereas the figures given by the device are in binary notation.
1 decimal GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes
1 binary GB is 1,073,741,824 bytes (can be written as GiB to avoid confusion)
So 16 GB advertised capacity is 14.9 GiB so there's only about 2 GiB in use by / reserved for the OS.

RAM is usually advertised in binary notation, so 2 GB means 2 GiB.

Where exactly are we looking at the amount of GB's in settings under storage? Or under 'Internal Storage' ?
Not sure if my 16gig is showing up as 8

Settings->Storage, the "Total Space" shown at the top under "Internal Storage". Mine shows 12.92GB.
