Hi,
im was kinda trying out the acer ring lately but im getting to hate it. there is this nice interface showing you your bookmarks on the right side. unfortunately it ONLY shows the bookmarks that are locally stored. once i save my bookmarks linked to my email account to my local folder they work, but then i cant use these on my mobile cause u cant store them locally AND on gmail.... grrrr... messes everything up for me... any suggestions?
cheers
I think this is going to be this way for the time being. I have read that the ring available in the Roms at this time is different than what will be released with the final A500 build. Maybe this will be a feature that they add for the final. In the mean time, I have been saving bookmarks in both locations. It's a pain, but at least all my links get synced.
You can save yourself a lot of pain with TitaniumBackup... That's what I've been using since I had android, and it always worked extremely well.
just tap on the email where it says account in edit bookmarks set it to local

Sup y'all,
So I really enjoy having all my facebook contacts' profile pictures/birthdays sync with the contacts on my phone, but the problem I am having is that I have to go into each of my phone contacts and tell it which of my facebook friends to sync with. That kind of sucks, especially since I keep flashing my phone in order to try out new roms. Is it possible to have facebook automatically match up my phone contacts and facebook friends so I don't have to do it all manually? And if not, is it possible to somehow backup all the linked profiles so I don't have to redo it every time I flash a new rom? Lemme know thanks.
Every time I update my ROM.. during the first Facebook login, I'm given the option to sync ALL contacts that it matches with my Facebook Contacts..
(has to be pretty close on the name for it to match).
Try going to the ME contact entry, then sliding over to the Events tab (2nd from right, i believe), then make sure it's logged into facebook.
At the top, you might have a "Link Contacts" or something (going off of memory here). from that screen, it will show you the list of contacts that it has matched.
If you have names in your address book such as "Mom" .. that's not going to automatically match with Jane Doe on Facebook. Gonna have to update your local Contact name to Jane Doe, or the auto-match won't work.
Mine automatically matches about 20-30 of my contacts every time I re-ROM and login to facebook.
ah sick man thanks
I have a question regarding this every time i flash a new rom i do not get this option, i have to manually go in and link everyone to facebook. When i click my contact card I don't even get the option to look at history or status updates on the sliders... I'm logged in on both the sense tab and the facebook in the internet file in the start menu but have never been prompted to sync contacts. I am using Energy rom dec. 13th 29005. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem was bored figured i'd ask as it gets tiring manually liking all contacts. any response is appreciated.

Match the contact name with the facebook name and it will automatically match it when you sign into facebook. That easy!!
Possible to backup with Titanium?
Here is an idea.. You have to match them all up one or another once.. then SYNC your phone with your computer using Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center... It then SAVES all your facebook contacts in with your other contacts so when you hard reset or update your rom, when you sync it up, your contacts are all back (including their facebook contact info)... I hope that helps
*** edit - title is supposed to say No Full Gmail Contacts Sync **
Ok it's taken me a while to notice this as i've had the phone plenty long enough now, but it was only yesterday I needed to add a contact and found that if I select the option to add to Google Contacts it doesn't actually save them. I've tried multiple times and NOTHING. The phone is able to sync DOWN fine but seemingly cannot sync up. Sadly it seems Samsungs incompetent software tweekers have struck again.
Can anyone else verify if this is the case with all Galaxy S firmware at the moment?
So frustrating; really starting to wish Samsung would just have made this phone a STOCK phone like HTC.did with things like the Magic.
Not the case for me. I have flashed and reflashed a hundred times and when I add a contact, it stays and comes back after a flash through google sync.

What particular firmware are you running? It tells me the contact has saved but then when I look through my phonebook the contact isn't there. Try adding one now to your Google account and report back.if you don't mind.
Darkstriker, can you log into your google account to see if all your contacts are listed there? Is it possible that contacts are synced, but they don't necessarily need to show up under the google account?
They aren't showing up on my phone book or online in my Google contacts, even though it says they're saved.
It could be that im running a custom rom, cant remember the name of it but its the main one that isn't SAMSET!
The main one that isn't samset... gotta love that statement.
Anyways: I may be a problem with your customROM. I am using JM2. I just added one and it shows up in contacts on phone and I'm guessing it will take some time to show up in gmail.

Im sorry I'm VERY hung over!
So I decided to delete my g-mail acct. I never ever use it... I have another email acct that is my primary...
anywho, so I tried to go onto the Market & it says my password is invalid for the gmail acct that I signed up with. It doesnt exist any longer & theres no way to change it that i've found on the Market to another email or something.
what to do?? I've searched and i havent found a solution.
BASICALLY- what i need to know is how do i get back onto Market?
I guess the easiest way would be to set up your phone with a different gmail account. But you will still lose the apps you paid for.
You could try emailing android market support or Google checkout support. They can transfer your purchases to a different account. Not sure if they would be willing to though.
Yeah, when I switched to CM6, the email I thought I used previously wouldn't work so I created another. Turns out that I misspelled the first email I created, which is why I kept getting it wrong. When I installed CM6, I ended up just creating another account for the market. Now I have two gmail accounts on my phone and neither are my usual usernames. When I go to settings > accounts & sync it won't let me delete them. I pretty much have to have both emails on my phone so I can keep my apps anyway. It just sucks that both emails' login info is something that I will never remember off the top of my head.
So just picked up my atrix from costoc, coming from a BB 8310 and I'm already fully overwhelmed by this phone.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some good starter tutorial material, what bloatware I can/want to delete (im sure most if not all of it), etc.
Basically need a place to start. So far I've looked at google maps and snapped a few pictures, plugged in the HDMI to see the pics on my TV, and linked my google account....so now what haha
LOL well the first thing I always do is find a good launcher; there are a lot of them outbthat, in my opiniojn, ar3all better and offer more customizability than the moto launcher.
After that, I set up my calendar so it syncs to my phone as well.
Twitter, Facebook, and a new browser and you're pretty much set.
What in particular are you looking for? I'd (and I'm sure others here) would be happy to help.

Initially looking for what to take off I would say (not interested in any of the BS stuff moto puts on there, just not sure what I should be getting rid of and what should remain. I'll hold off on root for awhile just until I get more familiar.)
After that, mostly just basic stuff that people like to tweak a little here and there. There are so many options and functions I could spend days just sorting through them all.
One thing I noticed right away that I think was mentioned here or another board before, I added my google account to sync contact, email, and calendar...however I now seem to have EVERY person I've emailed, even random craigslist people that I spoke with once or twice, in my contacts. I'd really like to get it to sync only people that are an actual contact.
OK well pertaining to the applications, I deleted everything that was on there that I could; wasn't all if it but a lot of stuff could be.
For the contacts problem, to go settings, accounts, and click on the email addresses. Deselect contacts.
At this point it wont sync them anymore and you can delete them from the contacts.
You can also hit the menu key and choose different views for which contacts you want to see.

Just go to Contacts, hit the menu key and go to Settings. There will be a checkbox for "Phone Number's Only". Select that and the ones without phone numbers will go away.
Also, get ADW.Launcher or Launcher Pro. Figure out which one you like better and then upgrade to the paid version. I have ADW Launcher EX and I use it in all the android phones I've had since I bought it. They are so much better and more flexible than the built in launchers.
you dont need to delete anything since its not doing anything if you are not using it. Get apps like "whats app" and "pingchat" which work like BBM. Use launcher pro and customize your home screen. Download some games and emulators

Found the setting you described so hopefully that helps, will I need to manually delete all "extra" contacts that got synced previously? Also, would there be a way either stock or by 3rd party app to only sync people listed as actualy contacts in my gmail account? I have about 300 or so in my actual contacts list in gmail on the webpage, but a few of them that I do use are email contacts only so I would still want to sync those.
Also for syncing in general, does the computer or phone override? So say I delete a contact on my phone, will it delete from my gmail contacts list as well when i get into gmail on my comp, and vice versa?
Concerning synching in general, it goes both ways
Oh a word of advice, if you delete something on your calander on the phone, it is deleted from the cloud (and desktop) calender as well.
So I would suggest to delete all things on the computer if you can; I have my classes set up perfectly and I deleted all next week on spring break and it didn't give me aby options for that week; effectively deleting everything after that.

The phone will push newer data back out to the network. So if you change it on your phone, it will update to google, and vice versa.
I believe the "newer" data will always trump.
It should only push in contacts who are in your gmail contacts, so if you want email addresses only on some of them, then uncheck the box I mentioned earlier and just delete the contacts you don't want out of the google contacts listings.
It shouldn't list a bunch of contacts outside of that unless you have them as facebook/twitter friends and have those sync'd as well with contacts. (application settings)

Both good to know. I like the "newest" action being the overriding factor, so I can change from either location.
Looks like selecting the "only phone numbers" got rid of the extra stuff, but not sure what other contacts were email only I may have now omitted, have to look into it further.
Going to DL some "stuff" now haha
Check out some youtube videos. There's some great ones released by google themselves that can save you some frustration
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I went ahead and moved all my contacts, etc. over to start using as my phone. Here is a word of caution to all. I'm sure it won't be an issue with most users, or people familiar with Android already. I used MyPhoneExplorer to start syncing all my contacts from Outlook, and my Calendars from Thunderbird Lightning. I did it this way specifically to avoid storing these on an outside server. I was not careful enough...in the background over the last 10 hours, it took all my business client contacts and merged them into my gmail account...which sucks but fixable with some time. But along with this it took all my client accounts calendar info and put it online and public viewable...2 years back worth of private client info! I would have never noticed, but I just happened to come accross google dashboard, and thought it would be interesting to see what info google collects from their various programs. Bam...front and center, under calendar was my clients name, address, time of our last meeting..and everything discussed. Took me a while to figure out how delete all this.
Just a warning to double check all settings before using this for any work related storage that you don't want pasted for the world to see.
So, really stumped here. I've tried 4 3rd party calendar applications, all with the same result. Under Settings, Accounts, Google, I for sure have calendars unchecked. I've used 3 or 4 different syncing programs to transfer my Thunderbird calendar to Atrix. Everything works flawlessly...syncing between Thunderbird and device is especially nice using MyPhoneExplorer. I constantly check the settings tick box...and calendar always remain empty = NOT SYNC. Except my calendars always end up uploading to the internet and appearing in my gmail calendar. Ultimately, I need to use this for business...and this is unacceptable. Is there some other setting I'm missing. I realize Google wants to get their hands on your info at every chance...and yes I know there is a trade off to use their services for free. But I'm not seeing a way to even use a 3rd party calendar w/o it getting sucked up by Google. I have no idea what that tick box is for, if it is going to sync no matter what you tell it.
Anyone know of a solution, or workaround? Been at this for weeks now with no luck. Have a nice new phone, and still have to carry around my old Tilt with me everywhere I go. I'm actually using the Tilt more, since I can't seem to get this hardware superior phone to do what my dinosaur does flawlessly.
