usb debugging on, then use super one click
what i don't understand is, if you rooted it before, don't you already know how to root it then?

Hi there chaps! I´m a NewB in the Android world an just acquired a Xperia play (r800a)
I´m from Mexico and yes there is no 2.3.3 update so far AFAIK, I have been reading about the different methods to get a successful update, so far I have tried PC Companion and SEUS with no luck (both state I have the latest software) then I bumped with Willlis111 thread (good job man BTW) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119074
So far I understand that (correct me if I´m wrong) I have to use Flashtool software with the UK generic FTF to override my current version of 2.3.2 so I can update OTA to a 2.3.3
For me, unlocking the bootloader is out of the question do to guarantee so I will like to try this method.
I have a bunch of questions cuz is something I have never done before (a little exitment in my life LOL)
I say better to ask the questions before than after....
1-I assume this will work with my r800a?
2-I´m assuming my bootloader is locked since the Track ID works?
3-What happens if I skip Step2 (gingerbreak)? Escapes to me the real benefits of the rooting procedure
And finally.....
4- Could this process brick my Play beyond resurrection?
Thanks to all and sorry for the long post....hopefully I´ll get some experience with droids and start building some apps soon
Rob.
Any input appreciated....
1) It is confirmed to be working on R800a.
2) If you haven't unlocked it, it's locked. No phone comes with bl's unlocked by default.
3) If you don't want to root your device, you can skip the Gingerbreak step. Here you have some insight on root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076720
4) AFAIK noone has reported issues with that particular way of updating. However, BE CAUTIOUS.

Thanks Logseman! I`ll defo update it in hopes it removes some of its glitches
I´ll take a peek in that GB thread that you mentioned.
Cheers and thanks again.
Rob.
yeah! I used Flashtool and used the generic UK FTF with success! Configured the MMS and the Internet Aps´s and all seems to work
One thing I noiced is that now my SP seems to be a r800i instead of a r800a as it used to be....any ideas why? Any drawbacks on this?

I guess you are right mate, thou I thought that spec was more of a hardware thing...seem that is software related then
Now I´m on the verge...to root or not to root that is the question. I´m tempted to update to 2.3.3 and skip gingerbreak for the time. Somebody convince me other wise please LOL!
I´m sure that when I decide to root my Play there will be and upgrade of some sort with gingerbreak that will let me do it over the 2.3.3

Rooting wont damage your phone it just makes you an admin on your phone same as you would get on a pc (you can do things you normally cannot). Its totally upto you. I use AdFree which removes adds when browsing the net on phone plus the adverts in free games are removed, it requires root to use this program.
If you root see safe apps to remove thread. I uninstalled most of the things listed and there are no problems at all .
Also about bricking your phone in your first post. Rooting wont brick your phone but you might mess it up if you uninstall stuff thats not on that list so just keep to the list and it ok. Plus since you have a locked bootloader even if you do brick your phone you can fully repair it using SEUS.

Thanks mate! What the heck! I´ll root it...see I´m easy to convince LOL!
The thing that you mentioned last, that SEUS will help with any issue that might pop out gives me the confidence I needed
Success! rooted and with 2.3.3 Thanks! chaps for the tips and encouragement
First off im not a noob. i have/had a nexus s; captivate, att sgs2 all rooted flashed and the sort. my wifes atrix 4g is a mystery. it could be because i havent spent as much time with it as the other phones but anyway heres the prob: when she got her phone it was running either 2.2 or 2.2.xx cant remember but i rooted it using gingerbreak. then she did the gingerbread update on top of the root. here is the problem. the phone still has the supersuser app and looks like its rooted but its not. how do i remove all of the the components of the root then reroot? theres nothing wrong with the phone it works fine no problems whatsoever. a lil info any advanced users could use: system version 4.5.91.mb860.att.en.us running 2.3.4 kernel 2.6.32.9-00001-g41bc3e0 [email protected]#2 build# 4.5.91
any help will be appreciated. ill try to check this tread as often as i can. we just had a newborn 3 weeks ago and a 2yr old running around as well as working full time. feel free to send a pm with any question r possible solutions. thx

What makes you think its not rooted?
In any case, try "re-rooting" using the info in this thread.
Any app that requires root permissions says its not rooted. ill try that and see what happens. thx

No probs mate, just helping out a fellow Atrix-er
EDIT: BTW, I did zero work for that, full credit to sanriver12 and Pete's Motorola Root Tools
I just received my phone yesterday, and updated to 4.4.4 in ignorance. I realized Towelroot doesn't work on 4.4.4.
Without root, I feel the restrictions of the device - there are many things I cannot do. (I owned a Galaxy S2 prior to this - I still like it - didn't realize how many things I took for granted which can only be done after root!)
How can I get the Verizon Note 3 rooted?
I was wondering if Towelroot would work on 4.4.4. So you have tried and can verify that it doesn't work???

As of right now....there is nothing you can do root it.

There is no root method as of now and I believe most of the devs that worked on getting root for updates and devs that worked on safestrap no longer support this device. So unless some of the new devs for this device can figure it out you may be SOL.

Okay. Is there any way to downgrade it? What if I do a factory reset?

No way to downgrade without root. I dont know how you obtained the phone, but if thru regular channels you can try sending it back and saying it was messed up out the box and request a new one. And make sure not to update that one if you do get it.
Just did exactly that - then I saw your response - imagine my surprise! Thanks.
Told them it's broken I can't root it. They will send me a replacement. Hopefully it will not come with 4.4.4 pre-installed.
You told your carrier the phones broke because you can't root it? ??

Who is swapping the phone? I have a difficult time believing that either Verizon or Samsung would swap it because you can't root it.

I told him what's the issue. He said he understands and took the phone inside, and confirmed that he couldn't solve it, then ordered a replacement. The store guys are good - you just need to ask nicely and explain what is the problem and why it is important.
Hello fellow tech enthusiasts. I recently traded in my cdma s4 for the gsm s4. I have been a root user for years and there seems to be no way to root this version. Kernel is latest from January 14th 2015 baseband ends with BOA1 I would appreciate any help or updates
I have phone, same baseband. I used Kingroot, worked just fine. I just used SuperSU Me-Pro afterwards to swap out the Kingroot root manager with the SuperUser root manager.

I didn't even try. None of the recoveries mention my baseband, which is BOA1 and if I brick my phone that's it, no rescue.

lol Well its not a bad phone, its just the version we have no one else has, or at least the ones who know how to code/program for it. Still I can't blame you for going to Nexus.

Hello,
Thinking of getting the Blade Max Z exclusive to MetroPCS. It has great specs but I need to know if it can be rooted (Android 7.1.) I also need TWRP and would like to put Xposed on it.
Searching the forum didn't bring up anything about the phone.
Thanks in advance!
You will never see root for this phone. Much like the version before it, the Z Max Pro, it is unrootable

Why are they in rootable is there no flaw in the system or what I really don't understand maybe, I'm an dumb for not understanding but, I think the goal is to find the exploit not just say it's unrootable
