Wich rom are you in? With several roms (as it was with ICSGS, fixed in newer releases) it can be a common software issue. How exactly is the "flicker"?

Oh sorry I was using tapatalk and didn't see the sig. Most likely to be a software issue, don't worry! I'm on ICSSGS, and it should have it already fixed, but still happens now and then... Don't know if it's the same kind of flicker, but it definitely seems software, and even more if you are using a custom ROM... Have you search in your ROM's thread if anyone else have the same problem?

[Q] Screen Issue

Hi,
I've been viewing the forums now since the phone was released and haven't seen anyone come across the problem I have now.
Basically, the screen will swipe and press things on its own without my input. It happens everyday but not all time.
I have a rooted 2.3.3 R800i from UK with locked bootloader.
Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
This happens to me when there's moisture on the screen. Wiping it off always fixes the problem. Make sure your fingers are dry when using it.

Thanks for the suggestiron, however after trying this the problem still occurs.
So now I tried changing the screen protector but nothing has changed.

Yes it's similar. Except its not just typing, it can be on the homescreen and my widgets/icons open on their own without me touching anything.

I had this exact problem too.
It seems to be fixed with the newest firmware upgrade we recently got.
My guess is that it is a touchscreen hardware problem that they have managed to fix via a software solution.
ok, I might have to try the update then.
Only problem is will it wipe off my root?

Confirmed
Not as bad, but the problem still persists.

Waiting time for screen on.

I have tried kj4, kka and sheep rom. All have the annoying long wait after pressing power button intil the screen is lit up. Also tried different CPU governors without result. What is the problem here? And can it be solved?
Is it just me, or do others experience this as a prob?

I've got the same rom, but I don't see the problem you described.... try to reinstall the rom.
ps: you should post this under the thread of your rom, without creating a new one
You may have a defective device.

mine is like 2seconds after the bootanimations and stops at samsung logo..fast enough for me
I have the same problem with my note. I just got mine yesterday. No clue as to what's causing it. I updated my firmware to the latest but left the old kernel so i could keep root access. Had the same problem with both the new and the old firmware.

Just to clarify the issue here:
When the phone is on but screen has been off for a while, the time between pushing pwr button and until the screen lights up is about 1 second, it may not sound much but it just enough to make one press the button once again. Not what i am used to on my previous androids from HTC.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Same here. KJ4, stock KKA and sheep KKA. It is annoying indeed...
Probably a user experience thing, you guys who claim to NOT have the issue:
Can you lock the screen and wait for like 10 mins and then on the screen again and time the delay from button press to screen light-up?

Where do you come frome? I mean are u used to Samsung devices or something else?
I am judging this by my 2 previous HTC's whith all kinds of different Roms where I have never seen this.
My thought is that it is on all notes but some people does not see it as a problem but you and me do.

I think I figured out the issue. I disabled weather on the lock screen and now my phone comes straight on. Maybe everyone with the issue can try that and see if it works for them?
Confirmed, getting rid of the weather on the lock screen gets rid of the lag
I'm having the same prob. I'll try removing the weather app and see if that helps.

This was there even on the s2..
yea, mines also has the same 1-2 sec delay. no weather on lock screen. found it odd, cause i've only had HTC phones so far, and never saw this.
Samsung don't use early_resume in the kernel, that Seems To be more qualcomm Related code.
It's that Code that gives you instant screen resume on the HTC devices et al.
I found this a niggle on the note as well, but have got Used to it,especially compared to amount of work it would take to fix it.

Weird graphics corruption.

Hi. I have had this Nexus 4 for about a month and it has does some strange things with the graphics on the bottom bar of buttons. Please see the screenshots attached. It can happen every few minutes and as soon as I touch the screen it will revert to normal again.
Is this something that is likely to get fixed with an update or a hardware issue?
I can't find anything on the internet referring to the same problem but the sales guy in the local carphone warehouse has a nexus 4 as well and said his does the same :-/
Anybody know what is causing it.
Completely stock BTW oh and as you can see. Pressing the hardware buttons for a screenshot does not fix it. Only touching the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Wow.. thats not normal! I would look into RMA'ing that sucker!
You could try using a toolkit to reflash stock to see if that helps, however you will have to unlock the bootloader, flash stock rom and then relock bootloader, then you just go into settings and do a full reset to hide the developer options then you will be stock. The toolkit I use is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015469 and its awesome just follow the on screen prompts.
I'm quite sure that this is a software issue, since hardware issues can't be captured by screenshots obviously. I'd recommend flashing it with whatever you like and do a factory reset. You can restore all apps afterwards ofc (use Titanium Backup for example).
Best regards!

That only means that it isn't an issue with the physical screen. It could still be an issue with the GPU or other hardware, since various hardware is used to create that software image in the first place.
I have seen exactly this sort of picture posted in at least one thread before on here before, though that might be hard to find on a search.
I would also recommend reinstalling the ROM and if it still happens then it must be hardware. I strongly suspect that it is the hardware.

Thanks for all the replies
I have now disabled HW overlays and it does seem to have fixed the issue (or at least made it far better, I have not noticed it since but it has only been an hour)
I will keep in eye on it for a bit and if it lasts cone back and change the title of the thread to solved.
Thanks for all the help guys.

hmmm, and the gpu just decides to screw up down there in a perfectly aligned rectangular shape that happens to resemble the navigationbar? i think thats unlikely.
gimpor, can you play gpu accelerated games? try please.
its probably googles weird 4 layer stuff. thats why disabling hw overlays fixes it. same guy that screwed up the kernel colors that merged it into 4.2.2 btw. : P
gimpor again,
hwoverlay is not permanent, a reboot unchecks it. try this
replace persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=true
with debug.mdpcomp.maxlayer=3
in your build.prop
or in the worst case persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=false
Its much better but still not fixed. Only done it once in about 8 hours whilst playing a solitaire game. I will try the other suggestions when I have decoded them into English :-/
I have not found any games that don't work yet, bad piggies etc. Seem to work okay. Would they be GPU accelerated?
Once again thanks for the assistance with this, it does get rather annoying when you show someone your phone and it's all garbled.
It still does this though :-/

I haven't found out anything further and it's still doing it but not as bad. It doesn't seem to happen to every stock phone so I'm guessing its hardware related, or at least something in software not playing well with this specific hardware. Mine is a 212 so they may have changed something on the later ones. I got it from Carphone warehouse on the UK as they were the only ones with stock. I had it changed already as the first one I got was DOA. I think it's going to have to go back if I can't get it fixed soon.

Screen 'color spill/leak' issue.

Hi all,
I'm not sure what to call this issue and I haven't seen it before, please point me in the right direction if it's elsewhere, I honestly am not sure what to search for.
I noticed today that I suddenly have this odd "leak" of color in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Sort of a small patch of orange. Tried to take a photo with my Nexus 4 but it's quite hard to make out on camera. Any idea what this is? Is it definitely hardware? Reckon it can be returned? I haven't done anything to cause the issue.

Thanks for that, forgot to reply at the time but it seemed to help/fix it but it's returned now and doesn't seem to be helping.
I'll leave it a while see what happens before flashing new stuff, it it's still there I guess I'll try return it.

New bug/problem need review

Hello all,
Iv found a strange behaviour with the reboot of s4 i9500 octa version, while rebooting there is a thin white line on the top of the screen that flashes for a second, it has the width of the entire screen and is quite thin.
Steps to replicate
1.Hold power button
2.Select reboot
3.Then the closing samsung animation shows up
4.Then when the phone shows the model number detail
5. Just between the model number detail and the following samsung logo animation u would see the white line on top for a sec.
The trick is to focus on the top part of the screen from the samsung model details till the samsung logo animation
This is my 3rd s4 after replacement and it still has that line flashing.....need folks to check if this is a wide spread thing
Thanks for looking

Really, why is this a problem for you? You restart your phone often? And even if you do so, why you bothered by what presented on the screen?
This is the reason you replaced the phone 3 times?
Oh please dont take me wrong....thts just something I noticed so wanted to share....
And the last 2 phones had camera issue....full red noise when pictures were taken...
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
@snoopdog2006 I'm agree with you and confirmed 100% that it happens everytime I reboot from OS or Recovery. The white line appears for a sec that is the same as CRT off effect.

Why replace? That thing is most likely software issue.
