ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS FROM SITE:
Yeah, you read right. Control your kindle fire by voice. All you need is Google Voice Search . Just install Voice Search and start controlling your kindle fire by voice. NOTE: This requires an external mic. I used the apple ear phone and mic included with the iPhone but any will work. Download link below Link: http://www.4shared.com/android/Oq2GWqd7/1319770780.html

I just want to add that I hear that it has to be a three banded microphone (the plug has 3 bands) usually a combo headset type thing. if i remember correctly. in other words not all mics will work

I don't think it can work.
Because Kindle fire have no microphone.
Wait for the second generation Kindle fire, or other product.
Amazon is not a device manufacture.

I have a Apple mic and earphone I use with my kindle. It works perfect. You can get one from amazon or an Apple retail store.

It work
It is working fine with voice recognition apps, but skype still not recognized microphone

noooooo
I tried it With a mic that i made with a transistor, but it didnt work

Skype cant detect the mic for some reason. I have tried too, but it just cant tell its plugged in.

Did the mic you made work well with other devices?

Doesn't recognize my mic either =\

Did you try with a diff mic?

You need to be rooted to install Google Voice Search, right?

It works even without rooting.

I was the person on this forum who first used a Mic with the Fire. I remeber trying to install Voice Search, and it not installing bc I wasn't rooted. Am I remebering incorrectly?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA

I just tried it again, and now I remember - Google Voice Search force closes when I open it. I went through this several months ago, when I found that a mic works on the Fire for audio recordings. As far as I know, so far no one has been successful in using Google Voice or Skype on the Fire for phone calls.
You're the first person I'm hearing who says that they got Voice Search to work. I'm not rooted, and as I said, Voice search crashes when I open it. Up to now, I haven't rooted because I haven't found any additional functionality that rooting the Fire gives you that I would like to have. This might make me change my mind.
Anyone else try it?

The damnedest thing happened: I got up this morning and noticed that the 1mobile app store I have installed showed that there was an update available for Google Voice Search. Just for the hell of it, I installed it and now the voice search works! This is great! Now I have to see how I can install a keyboard with a voice-to-text button (I'm not rooted, remember. I'd like to stay that way if I can).
Meanwhile, for those of you wondering about which microphones to use, you can do this - either use on of these "button" style mics:

or, these type of headset/mic combos which also work on iphones and ipads:

Great that voice search finally works for you, but I would like to point out that the apple headset that you have linked is a knock off. Here are the genuine headsets

that will not work..... I have to voice seach in google nav. and my seach bar does not have it as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667387
Not available in Canada currently because it only supports English.
found how to get it.. just do a seach on google for "com.google.android.voicesearch.apk" and download and install and it works.. copy it to your SD card to install it.
nevermind it just crashes out. worked on my x10 tho
here this version works
hmm... if you are talking about the Bell version it comes in the stock ROM
it's labelled as "Voice Dialler"
but it is not only voice dialing, when you speak to it, it comes back with search results for both software and contacts, if you execute either one, it launches the app, or it dials the contact

Earlier today I change the sell code to english and ta-daaa: voice search appeared. I'm actually looking for a way to get rid of it right now
You lose all your data though. So if you're gonna try it, go ahead and back up. I use Titanium back up (I don't love it, though: you have to stay by the phone waiting to give the green like* everytime an app is being re-installed).
EDIT: *light
sell code?...
Hmmm, maybe that's not its name. Anyway: *#272*HHMM# change HHMM for your local time, so if it's 12:30 it should look like: *#272*1230#.
Once there, check the codes http: //samsung-firmware . webs . com / samsunglettercode . htm (remove blanks) and apply the english one.
i get only this page when i google sell code samsung... so i'm not sure if such a thing exist.
anyway the 272 trick doesn't work on my i9000.

Thanks,
Market didn't have "google commands" but it had "voice commands". Voice commands was listed as free but when i clicked on the link it said "not found"
I tried both appbrain and android market.
Anyone have the apk for voice command or google command?
I'm not exactly sure why voice input was removed, probably a combination of the fact that it doesn't support french and also that Samsung stripped out the default android keyboard (which has the microphone button) and replaced it with 2 far superior keyboards: their own, and swype. I guess that's the one downside of swype is you don't get the voice input button.
However Samsung did include Vlingo for free (I'm aware that Vlingo has since become free for all phones since the updated google voice commands were announced for froyo). Vlingo is actually far better than the google voice input (at least for 1.5-2.1) as it gives you commands as well as the text entry. You can also setup the Vlingo keyboard which is essentially the stock Android 2.1 keyboard including the mic button.
From what I can tell it detects words just as well as the google service. Vlingo lets you put widgets of any size (1x1 to full screen) so this kinda makes up for the missing mic button on the google search widget.
I would imagine when the 2.2 update comes out we will have the google function back with multi language support and commands!
well Nirvana388 beat me to it, i was going to recommend Vlingo as well

Thanks, but Vlingo requires internet right? My old phones had voice recognition without the requirement of internet.
Ravi84m suggested "google commands" because it doesn't require internet??

[Q] Which mod has best voice control?

I moved from Iphone this spring. I am using MDOB now. Samsung Svoice never seems to get my voice commands right; can't find the right contact and totally gets my music voice commands wrong. For example, always thinks I'm asking for "back" when I say "beck"-- the only thing in my library.
Siri was an order of magnitude better at all this. Google is better at general voice recognition, but doesn't work with AT&T/Samsung. I tried and get a google dialer popup and it won't control the Samsung music app.
Should I go to Google Edition? Will Google correctly work over bluetooth headset for music and calls? Is it more accurate than Svoice?
Help!

When you refer to "Google is better at general voice recognition, but doesn't work with AT&T/Samsung.", what specifically are you referring to? I use Google Now and it's voice recognition and it works perfectly fine for me? Google Now is integrated in the new Google app. You can also access it from holding the menu haptic button.
Google Now does not control anything. Does not control music, texting, etc. on a Samsung/ATT device.
So my question, and I guess this is the wrong place to ask it since nobody seems to know here, is will AOSP or plain vanilla google ROMs do as good a job as Siri at controlling music via bluetooth headphones, texting, etc. etc.?

I have a Maxx, 444 & this no longer responds to the BT activation button.
This works on 444: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/themes-apps/dragon-mobile-assistant-alternative-to-t2857730
I got an X DE & now on Eclipse ROM there is consistent volume!
Disable Google Search from settings>app>all apps.
Install the attached apk. You must launch it one time to get it to listen your headset.
I use a Jawbone ERA 'streak 2 (the tiny one).
So much for the full set of Voice controlled accoutrements.
Seems no more soak tests are done by Motorola/Google.
Does Mo-'toro-la browse XDA?
Uhh isn't this the same as installing the "Voice Search" APK from the Play store?
What functionality do we lose by using this instead of Google Search?
Would you rather lose additional features or deal with a lower BT volume?

I have no choice, the BT tone is that loud. But I have not had the time to determine the losses. I guess I have voice dialing only.
Others on voice search jump in!
Edit yes play version of moto is same.

Google Voice difficulty understanding me

Ever since I got my S7 Edge replacement from the Note 7, Google Voice is being troublesome. I can't get it to recognize my voice correctly, well sometimes. For example if I ask it to list "nearest restaurants near me" it will search for "Near Me" like if it didn't understand my first two words. Or other times It says "if you said something, I didn't understand you". I tried uninstalling and\or cleaning cache from Google apps, but doesn't fix the problem. Can this be a software problem or the phone Mic being defective?

Are you saying "Ok google, nearest restaurants near me" or "Ok google..." *Wait for prompt* "nearest restaurants near me"?
I don't know if the wait would help, I know that I wait until I hear it make the noise before I continue to say anything. Give that a shot and see if it helps.
You can test out your microphone but I don't see a need to if you use the phone to talk to others and they don't have any problem hearing you.
What launcher are you using? I use Google now myself and I don't need the pause but am just used to waiting in case it didn't hear me when I say the command.
Also try going into Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Phone Assistance App and see if you have Google App as the chosen app. Not sure if that would help but it's worth a shot.
I am definitely waiting until it gives the tone and then speak right after. I just noticed that the delay is on the Google app and not when using voice typing on the Samsung keyboard which brings up Google Voices well.

I am having a similar Issue on my S7 Edge. The "Ok Google" prompt works just fine but then the mic cannot hear me at all. If I am on a Bluetooth device it works just fine and all other voice apps including the Google Assistant in Allo work fine. I have done a factory reset, I have disabled S-Voice and all other apps that use voice work just fine. I am at a loss at this point.

Make sure the Google App has permission to access your microphone. I would assume it does if the hotword detection works but still worth a shot.
I found a workaround that seems to work better on detection....
Have the phone at a distance and the top mic underneath your mouth level. Seems to give me less false positives this way, I have no idea why. Hope this helps.
What I did was uninstall the update for voice recognition and re download it. Helped immediately.

No sound from Google Search. Fire HD 10

Rooted, installed Nova, disabled all Amazon bloatware. Kindle working great, only issue is Google Search will not respond with a voice. I'll ask what the weather is and it simply displays the result without telling me with the voice "It's 100 degrees and sunny." I'll ask using the mic button/Voice Search "who won the allstar game", no sound, no voice, just displays the answer. Have the latest google installed, playstore working fine, framework, etc. Got everything updated.

It's a bug in the Google app. I had the same issue with past updates. Whatever that last update did they broke the sound again.

I figured it out. Turn on Nova in accessibility options. Then say ok google.
I followed your directions and OK Google now works. I also hear the beep, but it still will not respond through a voice telling me what the weather is, or who won the ballgame. It just displays the information on the search app. Again no voice telling me if it's going to rain, or who won last night's game, Etc. I greatly appreciate you looking into this. So do you think it's still a glitch? I really like to hear the voice telling me stuff, I'm too lazy to read the info, LOL.

Tap Google app > three lines bottom right > settings > voice. Make sure speech output is on. Also make sure you have offline speech downloaded. From there tap settings under assistant at the top > tablet and make sure thats all set.
Speech output is on, offline speech is downloaded in US English, I turned on Nova and accessibility settings, and it definitely turns on and beeps when I say OK Google but I still do not get a voice response when I ask any question. The Google app isn't your default Assist app. I'm getting that are on the Google Voice match settings. I have already deleted Alexa completely from the phone. Using ES File Explorer Pro, with root. I have also enabled Google through ADB and disabled Alexa through ADB.

You need to follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/guide-enable-google-assistant-ok-google-t3740145
You basically need to download settings database editor and make the edits to secure settings. Make sure to grant settings database editor the proper permissions.
Thanks Dragonfire, started with a brand new Kindle from scratch. I accidentally bricked my old one. Long story short I started with a new Kindle HD 10, rooted, installed all the Google apps, followed all of the directions from the guide... I still do not get speech output, the Google voice does not give me the answer that I asked for. Only displays the answer. Maybe it is a glitch as you originally suggested. I disabled Alexa as the guide says, and I was able to do the voice match and everything. Google does not speak the answers. I only get the famous Google beep. And that's it. The sweet lady Google Voice stays silent.

Sorry I can't help more. I've not had this issue aside from the sound issue i had mentioned earlier, which was fixed by activating nova in accessibility.
