[Q] How to use AT&T Tab as a hotspot?

I've searched this forum for answers, but I wasn't able to find one for my particular situation. I have an AT&T Galaxy Tab that I would like to use as a wifi hotspot (wifi tethering, or whatever you want to call it). I do not want to tether this to another device that is running as a hotspot; I want the Tab to be the hotspot as this is the only device I own that can do this. I believe (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that I need to root it and install a different wpa_supplicant module to be able to set up the hotspot mode. I looked at installing z4root, but AT&T has disabled downloading that via the Market and also from running non-Market apps from the device (I tried putting z4root on the device via USB mass storage mode and running it with Astro file manager). Next, I tried using SuperOneClick by installing Mono for OSX (yes, I use a Mac) and running SOC from the command line using sudo, however "rageagainstthecage" failed to run and the process failed. I've searched for more information on the forums and I can't find anything so I'm asking for help getting the tab working as a hotspot. If I've made a mistake in my understanding, feel free to correct me. I don't own a Windows machine, so that's not an option for me. I have a Linux machine, however I'd really like to get this working on OSX as several of my friends and colleagues are in the same situation as me and only have OSX. Thanks in advance!
Flash the Euro ROM, the turn it on and use it, or root, get the hot spot app and use it....

How? It seems that they don't make Kies for OS X (or not that I can find), and as I said before I'm not able to root it via z4root or SuperOneClick.

[Q] Rooting problem

Hello to all,
I'm a new Android user that has recently migrated from Windows Mobile 6.1. I have downloaded this FRX06_Full_Bundle_25.3.2011.zip and successfully installed it on my SD Card. This distribution works OK, but there are some minor issues I need to fix. So I need a root access to my phone. And here comes the problem how to do it.
I read several articles over the internet how to root your phone but all of them are about phones where Andoid is installed in the ROM. Moreover - they require USB access to the phone. And I have problems finding the correct USB drives or my phone USB does not work.
So could you point me an article that explains how to root my phone when Android is installed on the SD Card. Is there a way to do it by mounting the SD card on my laptop via the card reader. I want to avoid using the USB port.
BR
Are you trying on Windows or Linux?
Did you install ADB on your pc already?
Did you enable developers access on the android?
I think you need to provide a little bit more info.
Yea, sorry about that.
I'm using Windows 7 64bit. Currently I'm unable to find suitable drivers...
I have enabled the developers access on my phone, but the drivers problem wouldn't let me root my phone using the conventional approach.
So I'm wondering is there any other way to root the phone that does not include the USB port...
The build comes rooted out of the box. There's nothing additional you need to do in order to root.
You should probably read the FAQ if want more info on adb.
adb is not required for root access. Again, FRX06 comes rooted, nothing needs to be done to 'root' this build.
arrrghhh, thanks for the help. Indeed the distribution is rooted by default. I have confirmed this with the terminal application.
I have a problem with the Samba Filesharing (funkyFresh). The app website states states that the telephone is not rooted or Superuser not installed (I have already installed this). That's why I have tried to "root" my phone...

[Q] ADB - Device Not Found (v6.2.1)

Before the 6.2.1 update, I was able to connect to the Fire just fine. There was the occasional issue with it killing the USB port on my PC & then I would have to reboot it in order for ADB to see the Fire again. Now I can't get ADB to talk to the Fire at all, even though it shows up in the Device Manager & I'm able to connect the storage up to Windows 7 just fine. As a frame of reference, I'm able to get my Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY to be seen by ADB.
Does anyone know how to get ADB fixed on my Fire & is there a way to push an insecure build of ADB to it? Thanks.

BurritoRoot causes the normal adbD to behave as an unsecure one, but if your not seeing the kindle under adb devices then you have PC side problems likely.
I figured it might be PC side. I've tried everything I could after updating the Android SDK. Updating everything with what's needed for the Fire to be seen hasn't worked. I'm a bit at a dead end for ideas... I tried even using the USB3 controller on my mobo but no luck either.
Edit: Fixed!
I uninstalled the Kindle Fire from the Device Manager & got it reinstalled. It now works perfectly with ADB. I'm in the process of rooting it as I type this.
I have the same problem.
However, I have 2 fires, one running CM7 and the other 6.2.1.
The PC recognizes the one running CM7 but not 6.2.1.
So, I don't think it is the PC.
No matter what I do, adb and fastboot, device not found.
Can not access the one with 6.2.1.
Does not show up in device manager.
I have read and try various things from xda, Rootzwili and Liliputing.

follow this video thats wht helped me get past that part ur on

What worked for me was following this guide up to step 3. Then, with the device manager it launches, i deleted ALL my adb/android devices and then I let windows re-install the driver when I plugged the kindle (you may need to choose the driver manually), then I could finally access fastboot/adb via cmd..
Solved problem, Thank You.
I have many drivers on my PC, Motorola, Samsung, HTC and Android.
I noticed on one boot the Kindle was listed as Samsung Android Phone.
I uninstalled the Samsung drivers.
Connected the Kindle. All is fine.
Connected my Samsung SGS II, it found the drivers.
Crimson, thanks for sharing your fix of uninstalling then reinstalling. Worked for me.
hi, i would like to apologize in advance, i am new to adb so i'm not sure if i'm even doing it right, but i have successfully rooted and installed cm7, after much googling. i did it a while ago and used the clockwork mod method. i would like to replace it with twrp but the only way i have found to do it is by using adb or the kindle fire utility, which if i understand correctly uses adb. the only problem with that is that i can't get adb to recognize it. i'm assuming it's because i don't have the proper drivers for the "cm7 kindle" because i install them for the stock kindle. please help me. i have no idea how to fix this. thanks
edit: ok guys i'm really sorry, i'm an idiot, i forgot that i had turned off usb debugging. turned it back on, worked perfectly. again sorry.

I Need info/help installing TWRP on my Fire HD 10

I asked this question about a week ago, but no one has replied.... I know it is
possible to install TWRP on my Kindle, but can not seem to get any help with
this. Currently I have this:
Kindle Fire HD-10" (suez) Modified FireOS 5.6.4.0 w/ Root.
I am only asking for help locating a guide or maybe a quick walk through ??
I really need to get TWRP on my Fire, but can not seem to find a definite way
to do this ... preferably with a Win10 PC not a Linux box. IF I can only achieve
this via Linux, please tell me so and I will just have to go that route.
Thank you for reading this
