Battery charging problem when phone off - Nexus S General

Hi, I have a problem when charging and the phone is off. Few weeks later everything was ok - by which I mean that after few hours the phone signalised full battery by showing 5 full bars. Now I can leave the phone on charger even 12 hours but the fifth bar still blinks as if it was not charged. When online, everything goes fine: phone saying "charging" for some time, then "charged".
I`ve tried many ROMs since december and I believe its somehow related, but dont know how. I even tried formatting everything including sdcard in clockwork and then installing a clean stock ics rom but no change ...
Im afraid of breaking the battery somehow. With my second battery the phone acts normally - first "charging, then it states that battery is full. I found out that when I enter my spare battery into the phone and then give back the original one, its able to tell me "battery full" ... but not without this "swap" ... Im afraid of my battery be charged all the time - and damaged ...
NOTE: I want ti highlight that this problem happens only when the phone is OFF and I dont speak about the problem when phone was unable to reach 100%. This is different.

Only 0% or 100% batt but nothiung in beetwin

Everything was just fine until yesterday when i realized the batterty's built-in monitor wasn't reading a real batt stat. I was sure I was running out of charge and the divice was still saying there was 50% left. I did a soft reset and my atom didn't boot. I took the battery off and waited more than 3 hours, put it back and couldn't boot. I haven't ever done anything to my mobile. No register tweacks, fisical hits or rom upgrades. I searched the web and found a procedure to get it back. Reset+camera choose 1 option and there you go with your device booting at last. I did so but when it ended whith the system loading proces it sent a notification saying that the battery was exhausted and it went off. Again it couldn't boot in a normal way even with the ac adaptor plugged in. I made sure the battery was fully charged. I did a bootloader again (reseat+camera) with the usb connected and i could get it back again but showing 0% battery indicator and would turn off as soon as i unpluged it. I tested the battery with a multimeter and even when it was fully charged i tried to recharge it until green light then i turned it on and the batt monitor was 100%. I could unpluged the usb and everything was fine. It didn't turn off but the indicator got stock in 100%. After an hour or so of normal use i was sure the battery was 90% or less while it was still indicating 100% of charge. I did a soft reset and couldn't boot again. I think the device knows when the battery is 100% charged but when it is less tha 100% and i do a soft or cold reseat the mobile thinks the battery is 0% and won't boot.
Yes, I have ugraded to ROM Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822 to see if this fixes it but now i have a rom-upgraded aton exec with the same fatal error.
I am at work rigth now and hopping my atom doesn't need a soft reset because if so i need to plug it in in order to be able to do a reseat+camera and wait some minutes until green ligth shows up. My atom knows 0% or 100% of battery charge but no numbers in beetwin.
Any ideas?
did you charge the battery for 8 hours on first use, continuing to discharge battery completely first three charges?
This is crucial for battery performance I now get at least three days of moderate usage and at least 7 days in standby, my advice is go buy a new battery follow the instruction manual completely, failing any changes (be sure to buy battery from somewhere you can get refunded) return the battery. Try also reflashing using bootloader mode, not using the SD card!
The last time i used bootloader was after hard reset a no card inside then i performed the last ROM upgrede available from O2. It seems to be a hardware problem more than a software problem as i thought at the begining.
I hope you are rigth, i guess the device gets charge information from the battery and the battery is telling it when it is 100% and 0% when it is under 100% and after a soft or cold reset. I am going to drain the battery all the way down and recharge it up to green light to see what happens. By the way i did not charge the battery 8 hrs when new.
Where do you think my atom is geting the batt charge information? From one of its inside sensors or from batt circuits?
Thaks for your advice.
I mean reflash using bootloader mode, ie. enter bootloader then plug in USB and run DSUU installer from your PC. Its hard to say where the fault lies, some Atom's had power management issues and O2 are fully aware of it, if yours is still under warranty I suggest sending it to a service center but be prepared to be without it for at least a month! (should change their name to SLOW2) and also be prepared to have it returned to you only to find they havent done a damn thing!
Its a bad battery, same thing happened to me. Just return it for a new one, the material is moulded with the smart chip inside there is no way to fix it.
Now my battery is beetwin 100% and 85%. I have searched other forums and i found out it is definitly a battery issue. It has been more than 6 months since i bougth my Atom so i have no more battery garanty. I thing i am going to wait before i buy a new one in orther to get the most of it since it still last more than 2 days.
Thanks for the information.
when a battery xp-02 (for atom family) is sometime stop at certain percentage, says 72% for long time, i do a soft reset and it drops to says 40%, is it a symptom of bad battery? or it is a ROM problem?

Athena dead or dying........any miracle workers out there?

Background:
I have had MANY PPC's (so many I can't even count them) and I've loaded many different cooked ROMS and such on most of them so I'm not a complete noob on these things (don't claim to be an expert either).
However, my most recent acquisition is an HTC Advantage bought at CompUSA. I've read most of these came with a test ROM and mine was no different except for the fact that when I attempted to update the ROM to the "official" one provided to me by HTC it would not work. I always got the error "Connection lost" about half way through the process. I tried it numerous times and it never worked. On some occasions it would get stuck on the bootloader screen but I was able to get it back to working status (still on the test ROM).
I decided to try installing step 1 of Ollipro's SPL to see if that would help loading the HTC ROM. Turns out that wouldn't work either. It would get stuck at step 1 where it would ask if "PPC gone idle and didn't work or to wait 30 seconds". Tried it many times and would try to get it to keep going but the grey box on the bottom left would say the "parameters were incorrect" and would give me the option to quit, which I would. No problem, at least my 7501 was still working.
After that I tried the official HTC ROM again and I got the same "connection lost" error I had previously, except this time I didn't get anything on my PPC screen, just a black screen, not even the battery charging light behind the joystick lights up anymore. Soft reset...........nothing. Bootloader reset....................nothing. Hard reset.......................nothing. No lights, nada. The only flicker I get is if I try a reset wheen the power cord is connected. A red light flickers behind the joystick whenever I click the reset button. Any ideas or any help?
Sounds to me like the battery is just dead. I bought one at CompUSA (had the test ROM also) and I got the red ring around the joystick too when I tried to turn it on in the store. I left it plugged in awhile and it finally booted up okay. I then replaced the test ROM with the one and only available for the X7501 on HTC USA's web site. Good luck and I hope you get it working!
I think it could be battery related as well but it had a full charge when this happened. For some reason the unit has lost communication with the battery. I'm at a loss.
I got the same problem like you man !!! but i bad luck and so stupid man , i did with HTC X7501 then it dead after that i bought the X7500 then did it again , holy "... " it dead again....man ...So how your phone now bro ????
I left out the battery a half day and tried it again but still dead. Then I left it charging overnight and tried it again but still dead.
I can't believe this. I've never had a bricked device that can't be revived but after so many have seen this post and still no solutions I'm guessing it's no hope.
I met the same situation when I started to unlock Athena ( TMobile Ameo) within not fully charged battery ( less then 70%).
Solution ( try to make BL mode) with connected wallsocket charger ( not connected to PC USB slot) or find 100% charged battery. It helped me two times.
After many tries it changed to BL mode .
Now I didn't start unlock/change ROM without 100% charged battery.
I have the same BIG Problem, only red fliker when soft reset when AC conected. I wanted to update rom from russian to english and phone stoped working (black screen), and battery heats when inserted in phone . nothing to do? i read everything but i have not got any solution. I think it may be bios dead. helap us please

"heating battery" (i.e. discharging when inserted, you mean?), no charge led = dead bootloader indeed.
I get the same problem. My device is work, but not charge. Also like yours i have red ring around the joystick when the battery is taked out. And if battery inside, when i make a softreset it blink one time, continued to load but not charge.
You`r speaking all wonderful. But have anybody found the solution?
Hearing these stories makes me nervous. I'm on the stock ROM (mine came from CompUSA with the latest ROM and I don't have an urge to try the cooked ROM yet). I've been using my Athena daily for 4 months, it charges correctly from several different chargers I have (car, computer USB, stock wall charger, aftermarket wall charger).
However, one day 2 weeks ago I went to make a call in the middle of the day and my Athena was dead. D-e-a-d. Usually I can make it back home at night and still have 90-100% on the battery meter, so with no use in the middle of the day and a dead battery, this was weird. It wouldn't turn on, no soft boot, took the battery out and put it back in, and always got nothing.
I bring this up here because when I plugged it in, I encountered similar problems that others here are describing. It wouldn't turn on, and it didn't give me the orange charging light behind the joystick. I ended up leaving it plugged in for a while and finally I got a red ring, not the usual orange. I've only seen red when the battery was almost dead and the unit was on. Then after some more time the ring turned orange and at this point it would turn on again. I still have no idea why my battery died so fast and hard.
So, is there a problem with the battery charging system that is starting to crop up in units that have been used a while???

Hi i am no expert but i had simaler problem no display or no lights round ring no responce to any commands (ie hard reset and bootloader ) only red light flickred on reset button all i did was removed battery while pressing reset button and placed new battery and left it on wall charger for couple of hours and before doing hard reset i pressed reset button 2 to 3 times and green light round the battery came up so i tryed bootloader and it worked and insted of flashing it with pc i just loaded the img in sd card and flashed it while whole thing was on charge (i had tmob test rom before ) which i think is best way to do no hassle of losing connection or failing in half way and it works like a charm
hope this helps
and ya if you have a spare battery it dose help
New battery?
I'm a wizard user (and lots of former PDAs) looking to buy and Athena, maybe.
Has anyone tried a new, right out of the envelope, battery? these issues sound like worn out Li-Ion batteries to me. I've had them completely conk (won't take a charge at all) if I let them go completely down, and I've had them wear out and stop taking a full charge (down to maxing out at about %20, but sometimes showing %100 depending on ROM status) when I kept charging them while they're already charged.
Li-Ion batts don't sit for long periods too well, either, so if they're sitting on the shelf at the store/warehouse, they may be suffering even more than one that has been used since earlier in its childhood.
Perhaps the answer is a switched charger that stops charging when the battery (not the ROM/unit reading) gets to %100. ???
I didn't see anything like this posted. I'm terribly curious to see if anyone can resolve it.

Nexus One battery problem

Okay so i've updated to Cyanogen 5.0 beta 2 no problems installed 2.6.32 then went back down to 2.6.29.6 and extra ram works and everything but now my phone wont charge the battery.
I'm quite sad as this is the problem, someone mentioned to let the charge die and then try charging it then. So i did that and now its stuck at 0 and when i remove the charger it instantly dies. Only one other member had the same problem but he hasn't replied to my pm or the thread yet so i'll wait for him as he had this abit earlier.
I've done multiple wipes, reinistalls, nandbackups and now i'm too afraid to do anymore flashing as the phone's battery is on 0%. If at any point it requires phone battery to flash it will die and i'll have a brick.
Hopefully someone out there might have a solution
I dont think its a ROM problem since you wiped. Perhaps its a hardware problem?
i dont know. Does anyone know if its safe to flash? As in if the charger is in it should be okay right?
Okay i think i'm screwed for awhile. The battery is drop dead and now i cant enter bootloader mode. Theres a orange led at top indicating its still working but wont enter bootloader due to insufficient power. Damn i was going to try to flash it
Now i need someone with either a nexus one or another battery
FML
Have you tried another charger or the USB cable?
Same problem here
I'm experiencing the same problem myself.
Installed Cyanogenmod 5.0b2, everything worked fine for the day.
tried JIT, had reboots, reverted back to fast
Upgraded to .32 kernel, my sdcard wasn't compatible so re flashed 5.0b2
called it an evening, my battery was full but I plug it into the charger overnight since it's my alarm clock.
Yesterday morning on the way to work, was playing music and noticed my battery had jumped from full down to around 12% in 30minutes. plugged it into car charger, and while it didn't drop anymore it didn't charge either.
Left it in pc usb charger off and on all day where the off times it dropped down to around 9% and never got above it. Eventually let it die on the way home thinking I'll re train the battery.
Left it off and plugged into wall charger for 4 hours, but batter stays at 0%
I'm glad I didn't sell my Dev G1 yet, as at least I have a working phone for the moment.
FYI I ran into this same problem running superboot himem on ERE27. My battery died and then nothing would charge it, even sitting it on AC power for 8 hours (while I slept) when I woke up my battery was stuck at 0% and would auto shutdown if I unplugged it.
I nandroid restored to stock ERE27 and immediately my battery started again. I think there might be some weird problem with himem mods. Not sure. Just to be safe I am totally over flashing custom stuff on my phone. My phone is too important to me to risk stuff like this happening.

Stuck in bootloop, installed in some new parts

Hi,
I have a problem with my Find 5: I am stuck in a bootloop. The Oppo logo appears and after only a few seconds disappears, the phone vibrates and then the logo appears again. And this goes on and on.
I can get into recovery and fastboot but the real problem ist that my Find 5 will turn of again after maybe one minute into recovery. I tried it with CWM and TWRP. When I want to turn on the phone or get into recovery without being charged, nothing happens.
Before that I haven’t used the Find 5 because the USB-Port was broken and it would not charge. Even if the phone had a connection, its battery percentage would not increase at all. Then I ordered a new battery and a new USB-Port. I installed the new parts and suddenly the phone started to work again. I flashed a new nightly of CM 12 and installed some apps. The next day (it was charging over night) I unplugged the phone at 30%.
When I looked at the battery chart, I could see that the battery percentage did not decrease and also not increase while plugged into the charger. Then after some normal use, the battery percentage jumped from 14% directly to 0% and the phone turned off a few seconds later. When I charged it, it was stuck in a bootloop again. First it took about 30 seconds between the reboots and after the Oppo logo disappeared I could see that it i charging but after some minutes the reboots got faster (every 8 or 9 seconds).
So I am having the same problems with the new parts again but I don’t know why because it worked for some time…
It seems that the battery is broken again but how can it be? It was a brand new battery and it worked for one nearly full charge. Are there some common mistakes when replacing the battery that I could have made to cause my problem? I don’t know what to do and I want to try everything that is possible before getting a new phone.
Edit: Now I know where the problem is (or where it is not) but I have no idea what to do against it. The problem lies somewhere in the mainboard. Because when the charger is plugged in the phone will start to reboot again and again so the cable between USB-port and mainboard should be ok. But the battery is not charging. The phone worked with the new battery for a while because it was already charged when I built it in. And now since the battery is empty again I am experiencing the same problem as before again.
So does anyone have an idea? Where is the exact problem and can I fix it without spending much money on it?
Thanks for your help
Sam

Phone doesn't turn on

Hi all,
I'm having a bizarre problem with my OPT. The thread title doesn't really adequately explain the issue. Basically, if I shut the phone down, it will not turn back on. It won't boot to fastboot, recovery, or system. There is simply no response. If I plug the phone in, then after hours (or minutes, randomly), the battery icon will pop up with a red charging light (indicating a low battery?). However, it does this even if I shut it down with a full charge.
As an example, I shut it down before i went to bed last night (with ~80% charge), and left it plugged in. I got up this morning to no sign of life, not even a charging light. I unplugged it, plugged it into my PC, and an hour later I hear the little "new device" sound, and suddenly the red charge light is on. I wait some time, then attempt to turn on the phone. Then I hear the "device disconnected" sound, and it's dead as a brick again.
It also does this once the battery gets full. Eventually after attempting to power on the phone over and over again, it will randomly decide to turn back on, and then the phone works fine until shut down/rebooted.
Has anyone experienced this or have any advice? I'm hoping I just have something corrupted in my boot files or something software/firmware-related, but it makes the phone essentially unusable (and I certainly can't install a different ROM or anything while it's behaving like this).
Hi
Flashed Bad file ? Power problem ? Dead battery ? Charger problem and / or cable ?
But I already had that on my OnePlus 1 and I just changed the battery ... If it helps . Good luck anyway !
Be tested no choice. Unless you have the guarantee and a lot of time to waste in OnePlus...

I haven't flashed anything recently. I got the phone in September... unlocked, rooted, flashed TWRP, but haven't done anything since.
It's acting like the battery is completely dead, and it needs some time to charge before it will allow me to turn it on. But the battery is almost full.

You often dumps your O+ thoroughly ?
Because if so, it's not a laptop battery after I could be wrong but from my misadventure with OnePlus 1, it tires more battery than anything else. (On phone) :silly:
That way I'm not saying Fakir but I think if you have the guarantee, you should try to open a ticket to return your Oneplus. :good:
When my OnePlus fully discharged for a while he puts around 10 minutes to re-ignite (Oneplus 1) it is also how I ****ed my first battery on the OnePlus 1. :crying:
Not try to completely unload the O+2 from...
I'm just trying to help.
( PS : I still want to clarify that OnePlus 1 when it makes a point that the battery is empty it puts at least 10 minutes to light if I have the logo of the empty battery in red, even super you tell you my phone is dead ! And It is not ! If you know how is the process of loading a battery. And if such is your discharge too fast or you have a problem or charging your battery discharges of a sudden, I tell you it's more than problable so that your battery is lame. ) ( Sorry 4 my bad english.... )
The battery wasn't dead, I just shut the phone down. I very rarely discharge it all the way. Battery life is fine when the phone works. It's almost like the charging circuit THINKS the battery is dead and won't let it turn on. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue.
Actually I just turned the phone back on. I just kept pressing and holding power until it finally responded and turned on. But now I'm afraid to reboot it again, or i'll be without a phone for 6+ hours.

Software yeah maybe but i think its more probable a hardware issue, i dont know.

Sorry I can't help you any more, hoping that the community and champion these seeds tries to meet you too !
Did you try to do a full wipe and install stock OxygenOS 2.1.2 ? ( Without SU or XPOSED ?)
Good luck anyway ! For me it is 0:23 am in France and I'm k.o :silly:
Good night !
May the force be with you ! ! !
