I installed all my apps in internal memory ...
but all these apps created ''messy'' folders in my sd card ... making it even more messy.
Is there a way to ''ask'' these apps to install in specific sd card folder??
like \\sd\apps\data\
If you mean Froyo apps2sd they are all stored in a folder called .android_secure
Some apps also create folders on the SDcard for storing data regardless if you installed it on sd or internal.. Thats the developers choice I guess, where to put them.

there just app data folders, any you delete will either be restored when you next boot up your fone or next run a certain program so your wasting your time deleting any
They haven't installed on the sdcard. Like others have said, these folders are actually what the app creates to store data on. Some are images the app uses, others may be cached items or backups.
i think what the op means, is,if there is any way to tell the app where to put his data on the sd card, like on windows where you can tell a program where to instal.
and as far as i know that is not possible.
Thats why i have My_Music, My_Wallpapers, My_Ringtones etc. folders in my card, so it can be as messy as it wants, but my own stuff is there in one place. Easy to find.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
need help. this is quickly going from my favorite phone to a PIECE OF CRAP I WANT TO SMASH ON THE WALL.
there's a thread i made yesterday. short version after rebooting the phone none of the apps in the sd card were accessible, the phone couldn't mount the sd card, and nothing would install in market. i flashed new roms, restored nandroid backups, nothing would fix the issue. finally narrowed it down to some file on the sd card. deleted all the files from the sd card and restored my last good nandroid and got the phone running, just had to re-install my apps.
i've spent all day installing all my apps (200+). everything was working just fine again. until i decide to reboot the phone. and now I'M BACK TO THE SAME ISSUE. none of the sd card apps work, in settings if i try to unmount the sd card i get a FC, switchpro can't change the mount status (says updating status but never changes the icon, so it's either unmounted or mounted, but wont change it), and nothing will install in the market.
i put back my original memory card (that i used yesterday in my testing) and the phone worked fine again. i installed root explorer (was on sd card, now to the phone). put my memory card back.
i am able to browse the sd card with root explorer. gallery sees the images from the sd card. beautiful widgets sees the skin files in the sd card. but the OS wont run any of my apps that are in the sd card and wont let me install anything.
i'm 100% if i delete all the files from the sd card and boot again, everything will work....but what the hell is causing this? i dont have any experimental/alpha apps that would do any damage after being installed. just a few apps and many games.
from my end it feels like there is a file that gets created at one point, that after rebooting the phone makes it so the phone can't mount the sd card, thus not able to install apps, run sd card apps, etc.
please give me some guidance here. i can't use my phone if i can't isntall apps!!!
i got so pissed almost smashed it
i'm using MetroDroid 1.0, rooted (nand too), customized matted blues theme. keep in mind the problem does not go away with a fresh install of the rom, or with a nand restore of cm6....i'm pretty sure it's down to a file issue within the sd card?
There is a file or app being installed on the sd card that is causing the sd card to corrupt.

you really need 200 apps?
****, i'd say therein lies the root of your problems...
have you tried installing each app one at a time, and rebootung after each one? Eventually you'll run into the same issue, but at least then you'll know which app is causing it.

That's a lot of apps to go through to find the culprit.
I would try reformatting your card. Then go about installing your apps again. Besides that I have no idea, could be an app or a retarded lemon of a phone.
^^ what he said... Don't just delete the files on your memory card, format it!

Well, yeah, its also a lot of rebooting - its more of a last resort kind of suggestion. To be used right before throwing it at the wall.

that's my latest theory. i'm going to try renaming all the folders in the sd card and rebooting. seeing if i can pinpoint which folder first...then the file

that's the thing. yesterday i reformatted in-phone and i also formatted in the computer. then put the files back on (made a backup first) and this happened after installing the apps. i think i rebooted maybe 3 times in the process of installing all the apps today. the last reboot was only to test the theory that on MetroDroid data only works if you reboot with Wi-Fi off. so i really wasn't expecting the whole thing to stop working again!
EDIT: where in the memory card exactly are the app files?

no need for all the pointless swearing. next time post more civil
Unless you have transferred said apps to your SD card they will not show.

really? thank you for your helpful post. i posted a very detailed and civil thread yesterday and where were you with helpful information? nowhere. and where is your helpful information now? nowhere. so why even come in the thread if you're not going to help?
@toast - thanks for editing the OP. i dont usually make the pissed off kind of threads but this time it served its purpose. the last two days i had a very well written, detailed thread explaining everything asking for help. i renamed it several times. bumped it 2-3 times. all i got was two responses. i post this one with profanity in the title and look at how many answers already. some of which seem to be pointing me somewhere right hopefully!
it's very frustrating to see picture threads and mod threads get useful (and useless) comments every minute and threads asking for help (i've seen this happen with my own threads in the past and many others) get ignored. specially considering by the time I get to ask for help i've spent hours trying to fix it on my own and researching before asking here.

VOODOOTRIP i put back most of the files that were in the memory card prior to reformatting it. anyways i installed all the apps again today after that and haven't reformatted yet (what's the point?) so the apps are in the sd card. just need to figure out how to get the phone to access the card!
EDIT: i renamed all the folders in the sd card (without reformatting or deleting anything) and booted into the phone. was able to mount/unmount the card and install apps from market. so it is a file in there...now to figure out which one!
You can access the card from root exp. or from Astro? ie it's still showing the extension right? When was the last time it was working properly? What rom were you on when it first started happeneing? Have you downloaded any non market apps since then? Are all your roms on current update? You said you have tried both a sense and AOSP rom right?
i was able to narrow it down....it's a file within .androidsecure...so now i have to sort through 131 files in there. but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel!
with .androidsecure renamed i am able to install apps, mount/unmount. etc. so it's got to be something in there that is loading when the phone loads...i wonder what?
i'll update when i find out in case anyone comes across this problem too.

see info above (quickly....yes, no (astro is in sd card), about three days ago, MetroDroid, since then couldn't download/install anything, everything is updated, tried both CM6.0 and this rom. but see above. since problem is a file in the .androidsecure folder, whether i was wiping and going to cm6 or back to sense that file wouldn't be modified by the recovery wipe correct?
I know the problem its the 200 apps or one app not getting along with another app. You are the first person that I have come across that has that many apps 200+ apps is a crazy amount of apps.

well there are 131 asec files in that folder. so at least 131 apps + the ones on the phone memory.
but why the surprise with the amount of apps? isn't that why we get 16gb and 32gb memory cards?
the problem file was
se.nena.nenamark1-1.asec
for the benchmark NenaMark
that was the last app i had installed before i overclocked my phone into rebooting. and that's when the problems starting. hindsight is always 20/20
new development. i installed another app and rebooted and the same error happened. NenaMark was off from the android_secure folder but i was back to 131 files. i removed some other apps and booted again and everything is fine. so it looks like 130 .asec files are the limit? at 131 files I get the same problem?
moved 130 of the 131 files back and the phone ran fine. put that one file in, and problems came back. removed the file and all is well again.
I was having problems with my phone and once I accidents ran a check disk via win 7 it found and fixed some corruption, also my symptoms went away. In fact even my video recordings loom much better.

as the title says, i have filled an 8 gig card already and now on a 16 gig and only have 4 gig of that left. i have lots of updates and backups, only 2 roms installed and hardly any music or pics on my card, is this normal?? i have never needed a 16gig before, once we rooted our phone, the files that we used to root, can we remove those from the card or is it necessary to keep them on to stay rooted, i have gotten rid of some bloatware but not all because i dont know exactly what is safe to remove.
Move your back ups to your computer. Get rid of the zip files from your Tom installs because you can just restore through recovery instead of doin a new Tom install
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You can delete all the stuff from your sd card with no side effects to your root status, which rom you are in, apps, etc. The only downside would be that you have no data on the sd card.
I have an 8 gig and have never come close to running out of space. I only have the latest roms out, i have no back ups(i am weird and would much rather do a fresh install everytime), and i only back up contacts to the sd card.
Once youre done with root though, you can delete visonary, the root.sh file or whatever, the recovery.img on the sdcard, etc. with no effects.

okay, im such a noob, pls explain to me what you mean by Tom?? im sure its something simple but just dont know sorry
Those backups are over a gb a piece. Don't take long if u keep em all
so the backups from my sd card from rom manager i dont need to keep on sd card, they can be saved on pc? how do i backup then if they are not on the card?
So after all these apps and Rom flashes and everything, I've noticed that my SD card is bloated with left over directories and files and such. Is it ok to just copy the content of the SD Card to my computer, then format it as Fat 32, then put it back in the phone and everything will be fine?
I'm just cautious as to what the Rom's might be putting on it, and what the nandroid backups are going to do if they are moved.
Just trying to be careful, thanks!

The only things that would get messed up would be rom manager backups ( copy them back into the correct folder after you put it back into the phone) titainum backups, any apps you install to SD.
I do this every few months myself. i hate all the bloat
I believe anything leftover on your sdcard would be typically from apps not roms. In regards to copying your sdcard contents, just copy everything onto your pc, reformat, then paste it all back on. As always, be careful and delete only what you know is in excess or no longer used.
You'd be fine.
Will work as long its formatted in the phone after youve erased your card
I had the same issue but I somehow deleted Gvoice and Gtalk and now can't download from market. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated, its been days and I'm dying over here ={

weird. I'd reflash the ROM..
I tried something different recently.
After cleaning up my SD card, and reloading different ROM and stuff, I removed my card and put it into my PC. Then using Perfect Disk, ran "Smart Placement" then "Consolidate Free Space" I have no data to back up the speed feeling. The file access just seems a little snappier.
ZooDad
Yeah I flashed the ROM and Gapps back and everything was fine. Thanks ^_^
Been searching for a while but am confused. Never needed to use my external SD on vibrant until recently. Now I have a question. I have two different ROM versions on my phone and I use ROM manager to keep them backed up and I use restore to go from one to the other.
The question is, now that I had to move some apps to my sd card (using Apps2SD), what happens when I switch ROMS by using restore?
Do I need two different partitions on the SD card, one for each ROM? If so how do I do this, and how do I know which partition each ROM will use?
I have read many warnings about partitioning using ROM Manager so I am kind of leary of using it.
Can anyone explain this to me? Never thought about it before because the Vibrant has so much memory available.
Thanks.
Any ideas?
I'm sure lots of people have done this before, just not me.
Can anyone explain this to me please?
Thanks in advance.

I have NEVER heard good things about partitioning your SD card with ROM mgr. NOt sure why you would anyways. The internal is already partitioned anyway. That is why we have a phone marketed with 16gb internal but when you pull settings>sdcard it shows only 14gb. Where are the other 2gb at? There are already partitioned to put your apps there. Use Root Explored and go to /Data, /datadata/, /dalvik-cache and you'll notice that they are all the same size-nearly 2 gb. Viola!!!
As far as restoring. I don't use native App2sd but I know how it works. W/o getting too technical, it puts part of the app's apk (executable functions and data) in a folder called .androidsecure on your sdcard (if you want to view this folder, you have to plug into PC and make sure Hidden Files are viewable). Now to your question. Whenever I have backed up, I always see at the end when it is cycling through your partitons (/system, /data,...) it says something like "backing up .androidsecure"-file not found*b/c I don't use it is why it isn't found. So you can back that up if there is something in it, flash new ROM redownload your apps and move to App2sd, back up and when you restore it should restore the .androidsecure partition.
Sorry for the long response but you asked two questions there. Now for my question. How many friggin apps do you have to fill up everything and bleed over into the app2sd part too? Does your phone lag? How is battery life?
Using App 2 SD Pro
Perhaps I didn't give enough info, but I am using an app, called App 2 SD Pro, to move apps back and forth to and from SD card.
It shows Moveable = 98, on SD card = 17, and phone only = 98, so I suppose it have 213 if it is correct.
Thanks for the info about restoring. I will have to study your answer in more detail before I can give any more answers, or ask any further questions.
re download my apps
Part of your answer above was redownload my apps.
Don't want to do that. If I move some of my apps to the sd card using the app "App 2 SD Pro" and then do a backup using ROM manager, then restore another ROM using ROM Manager, which also has apps on the sd card, what happens to them?
I have done this and it seemed to me that some of the apps which had been moved to the sd card did not show up on the restored ROM.
This is why I asked about partitioning, maybe using one section of the external sd card for one ROM and one section for the other.
