Hi guys,
I have a problem. When I enter a page in my ICS browser I get redirected to pay sites (porn sites or video sites) that tell me to buy an abo...
Doesn't matter wether it is facebook, or xda-developers or google search results...
Can please somebody tell me whats wrong with my phone?

Bingo, it is the only explanation I can think of. Try Lookout Mobile Security and run a scan, see if it picks it up. If not list the apps you have and we will see if we can spot it.
The nuclear option is to completely wipe your phone and reinstall apps one by one.
Already have Lookout installed. Will try listing my apps to you. Give me a second
Edit:
So it looks like my tablet got it too
Heres the link, dont click via mobile internet! (Or better dont, if you dont know what to do)
Be aware this site is trying to sell you an abo.

It could actually be that your provider's DNS is hacked.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNS_spoofing
These redirects actually appear every time wether im connected via wifi or mobile data...
Flashed a new rom to my phone. I'll watch wether they appear again...

Crazy. I've never run into anything like this.
Supposedly Android is becoming more and more exploited though. With the way Android works it would absolutely have to be an app. Could it be the creator has included something mischievous on purpose or perhaps incidentally?

I have absolutely no idea what could possibly be the cause of this problem. A friend of mine had that problem on his sensation this morning too. The apps we use have absolutely nothing in common.
Device: HTC Desire Z
Rom: Virtuous Affinity 2.05

I'm so interested now. I could have sworn that for anything like this to occur the user has to install an app and allow its permissions to be granted.
Keep looking, find what's alike between the two.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD via my tethered HTC Vision
Are you rooted? If you can, use something like root file explorer and tell us what your /etc/hosts file looks like.
Yeah, check it out. If you're rooted an app would also have access, if given superuser privileges under the pretense of doing something else, to change the file. I wouldn't see visiting a link being able to do anything to the system files unless you specifically tell it to.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD via my tethered HTC Vision
The Rom Toolbox has an integrated Ad Blocker... that one seems to block these annoying Pop-ups, at least till now...
Well i got the same problem -.-
Gonna ask my friend to send me a list with all the apps he has installed on his phone. Post it later.
..etc/hosts...
What do you mean with "how it looks like"?
Shall I post the code?
The problem doesn't occure for me at the moment. I posted earlier that I flashed a new Rom, so if the cause of the problem was an app, I haven't installed it yet.
Device: HTC Desire Z
Rom: Virtuous Affinity 2.05
Clockspeed: 1.2 gHz
Are you familiar with hosts files on any other systems? Just have a look through it and see if there's anything obvious, you could post the file or its contents as well for us to have a look.
Have your friend get that list of apps, and also have him get you his hosts file so we can compare (assuming he's rooted) his bad setup to your currently unaffected one.
This happens with any browser and any webpage you said? Hosts file being modified seems the most likely, but again I've never had anything like this happen so I'm at a loss.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD via my tethered HTC Vision
Yeah, im kinda familiar with the one from windows 7. My host file is ok right now and my friend's one is not rooted. If the problems appear again, I'll check it.
Still waiting for the list...

My friend told me, that his redirecting problem started, when he clicked on an ad banner on facebook through his browser.
The thing is, I never visit facebook via browser. I use the app.
Device: HTC Desire Z

And to my knowledge, attacks of this nature shouldn't even be possible on Android, and it certainly couldn't have changed your hosts file.
Has he tried clearing browser data or uninstalling? Something in the cookies maybe? Don't see how that would redirect all traffic though.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
If it has changed your host file, that would be helpful, as it would have used su access to do so, and you would have a record of it in the Superuser app.
The point is, he doesn't have his phone rooted, so he could never give something su rights and I flashed a new rom, so the su history is gone...
It is killing me. I so wanna know what possibly could be the cause of this redirects...

That's right, that's what makes this so freaking intriguing.
Was interesting for you, a rooted user. It's a downright mystery for someone who's unrooted.
Has to be something malicious in an app's cache IMO, which wiping/flashing would format. Make a current backup and attempt to find the same FB link online, actually try to get infected. Then we could compare the system and app files before and after, but only if you're actually able to catch it again.

Hi guys!
Is there an app to take screenshot images and save them in the storage card directly as camera does. I don't want to root my device just for this purpose, at least not before the official froyo upgrade. Thx

well.. where to find android sdk? it is not available on the market. Thanks for replies..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's not a phone app, it's a desktop development environment for Android:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Available for Windows/Mac/Linux
this link tells you how to take screenshots using the SDK
http://blog.digitaltinder.net/2009/06/how-to-take-android-screenshots/
No app does this yet... Site Shot gets the closest with a functional, albeit limited, workaround. Some other apps like Gensoid allow them to take screenshots too.
So the method suggested above is what works.

Thanks mates..
Site shot seemed only for web browser pages, didnt try anything else with it though. Android sdk seems the only way to do that, so far. Actually i'd thought an app similar to wm app "shake n save" could be found for android too.

Hello all. Had an iPhone then a windows phone 7 device until about a week ago. Bought an Orange san Francisco, cracking little phone. I had rooted it and was running a custom firmware. I like Android so much I bought a desire he yesterday, it rocks. The question I ask, is on the san Francisco, if I search for say "youtube downloaded" in market place I get a lot more results that if I do the same search on my desire hd. I'm using the newest market place app on both and both are on the same WiFi network. Any ideas? Sorry if this has been asked previously, but I can't figure out how to search in the xda app, please don't flame me for my ignorance.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Could only guess due to different versions of android. if you are sure that you are using the same Search string in Market then am puzzled too.
I have 2.2 on my desire, but used both a leaked custom 2.2 curtosey of modaco, and a standard 2.1 on the Dan Francisco. Is there an alternative web place I can get the free android apps from. Note, in not requesting free apps, just an alternative place I can search for the free apps.

The fast boot option hides some apps in market. Try unchecking that.

maybe we can edit one of the lib files inside the apk? much like was done on the Adobe Flash Player lib file to enable hulu playback on our phones. I don't know how to do this, but an idea nonetheless.

im new to the android thing but would changing the fingerprint in build.prop file be enough to trick the app into thinking the phone is supported?
havent tried it myself yet..
They got it to work on nook color by just editing the build.prop
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
And then rebooting.
Has anyone else tried this?

same here...it just craps out
I also tried "T-Mobile G2" and that failed as well
any other strings we can try for other devices are supported at the moment?
1. HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
2. HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
3. HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
4. HTC G2 with Android 2.2
5. Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3
(I don't think any of the above have similar enough hw to the tegra board we have)
I did notice there is 5 .so files device{1-5}.so when you unzip the .apk file. I tried mucking with .js files to force the app into accepting a device string instead of polling the device but I'm failing at creating a workable apk file.
I used apktool and auto-sign but when I install my modified apk (even if it's just repacked) it fails to run...i'll leave that for another day; i've got much to learn in the android world....

I used this same method and posted a revised services.jar in my RoyalGinger thread a few days ago. I believe I only heard back from one maybe two guys but it did not appear to work.
And if you read that thread you linked, most of the people who actually tried it did not ultimately have success in the end with this either.
However, I will post mine in the off chance that it might work for someone.
It seems from reading the other G2 thread that this needed to be applied BEFORE you actually got throttled for the month. (but again, it appears this may not work at all anymore...)
**THIS WILL LIKELY ONLY WORK WITH ROYALGINGER AND LATER CM7 BUILDS** because it's based on this framework.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- download the zip from this post, extract the modded services.jar & put it on your computer (in the example commands below, it assumes its in your root C:\ folder but if it's elsewhere just add on the appropriate path after the C:\ )
- reboot into recovery & connect your phone to PC via USB
- open a command prompt, terminal, etc. on your PC/mac/toilet and type:
adb shell
mount /system
exit
adb push C:\services.jar /system/framework/
adb reboot
- all done
i've never tried this before and i'm not throttled so i can't test it ... this will probably make your settings > wireless & network > mobile networks menu force close .. but with the power widgets to switch network type the only thing you wouldn't be able to change are APNs .. either way, i included a virgin/unmodded services.jar that you can repush anytime you need to get back into that menu (make sure to rename it services.jar before pushing the unmodded one back to /system/framework/)
good luck!
26.09.04.26 radio?

I know that being throttled for a supposed "unlimited" service sux, but trying to hack your way around the limit is not something I would do or agree to either. This is more of an ethical issue.
On the technical side, I would be surprised that T-Mobile network is so easily fooled by anything on the phone side. They should be able to throttle based on your unique SIM ID rather than whatever settings or APN server from your phone.
Every time you turn on your phone, they know about your SIM and IMEI number from their server, from those 2 information, they know about your phone number, your personal information, your approximate location relative to their towers and which phone you are using.
It doesn't work.
@ckisgen, Yeah I noticed that most people were unable to use this but on the rare chance this does for work someone they'll be awfully happy lol. I got tethered once when I didn't have wifi at my house, needless to say it sucked. Thanks for posting your zip, instructions, and for all the work you do in the community.

Grab the edited services.jar not the unedited patch.
Get astro from the market or whatever file explored u like.
Go to your downloads folder in astro- highligh the services folder until a menu comes up hit edit then select move hit home on astro
U should see paste at the top in astro hit it itll put it in the root of sdcard
Grab root explored and the edited services.jar hold it hit edit in root explorer scroll down to to move then hit back once go to system folder in the main menu find framework in the system folder youll see the old services.jar dont touch it hit paste at the bottom in root explored itll asked to to overite it hit yes and it will then exit root explored reboot your phone and your free from the throttling enjoy yay!!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I don't see how this would work. Your data usage is not tracked phone side its tracked server side by T-mobile. Just because you don't get throttled after 5GB doesn't mean that it will work all the time.

i hope the version that goes arround is not the final one cause beside being very laggy it is buggy. it broke a market link of an installed ap while trying to update it.
also even though it showed me one app being able to update it didn't allowed me to. clicking on it brought me to the apps details page and there i could only open or uninstall it.
i could onlly update apps if i had more than one by clicking update all.
p.s. oh and not to forgot: the amount of traffic it causes is extrem! a multiplactive of the old one, as if they would not cache the images of the apps showcase on the front page.
