I have the (unofficial) Netflix app for Android here, I heard that the servers have been opened now so it should theoretically work; I am going to test it and report back.
(Attached below)
*Edit: I have tested this app and it runs however when trying to stream a movie it will display a message along the lines of "your device is not supported"
No go
I'm getting a force close upon login using this apk. Anyone else having better luck?
Uninstall and reinstall worked for me

Streaming doesn't work.

I found another .apk in a different thread com.netflix.mediaclient-1.apk 5.44mb and I have the same issues. Gives the your device not supported. Does let you log in and seems to be stable, but can't view any movies. Everytime you try it just comes back saying device not supported.
only streams on 5 phones not ours

Did that too and still get the force closed upon signing in... are you on stock(besides rooted)...
I got the "device not supported" message, but was able to get a login screen after waiting a few seconds. I logged in, but can't stream.
maybe we can edit one of the lib files inside the apk? much like was done on the Adobe Flash Player lib file to enable hulu playback on our phones. I don't know how to do this, but an idea nonetheless.

im new to the android thing but would changing the fingerprint in build.prop file be enough to trick the app into thinking the phone is supported?
havent tried it myself yet..
They got it to work on nook color by just editing the build.prop
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
And then rebooting.
Has anyone else tried this?

Just tried this , not working I only changed the two fields you suggested but not working, there are lot of other fields that can be changed, I made a back up of my original so I will play around with it
Does anyone have a netflix account that I can use to try to see if I can access it from my phone? I will not change any account information.

same here...it just craps out
I also tried "T-Mobile G2" and that failed as well
any other strings we can try for other devices are supported at the moment?
1. HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
2. HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
3. HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
4. HTC G2 with Android 2.2
5. Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3
(I don't think any of the above have similar enough hw to the tegra board we have)
I did notice there is 5 .so files device{1-5}.so when you unzip the .apk file. I tried mucking with .js files to force the app into accepting a device string instead of polling the device but I'm failing at creating a workable apk file.
I used apktool and auto-sign but when I install my modified apk (even if it's just repacked) it fails to run...i'll leave that for another day; i've got much to learn in the android world....

the official app is out on the marketplace now. check it out, only works on 5 phones though and mines one of them. IT HAS NO BUGS AT ALL,no lag what so ever. biggest boom in the market in quite a while

Newest version in the market was released. Anyone able to hex edit this one so that it's compatible with Hulu, etc? Thanks in advance!
I could use some of that hacked flash too!
Ya looking for this as well.....

UPDATE: Oops, forgot to mention, it works!
So after we get the hacked flashplayer, what else do we need to do. Hulu keeps complaining about cell phone.

Can this be done without a root?
And if so can I get newb friendly instructions?

Change your user agent to desktop. Cyanogen and other custom ROMs have this built in, but you can use third party browsers to do it too.

I would use the Hulu.apk as it runs much smoother than playing a video via the browser. I'm sure it's on these forums if you search or you can rip it out of SkyRaider.
If you want to go the browser route, type the following into your URL (without the quotes), "about:debug"
Hit enter (nothing will happen)
Go to menu and scroll all the way down to UA string. Change to desktop. Hulu should now work.

No, you can't replace files in the /system partition without root privledges.
does anyone have this in an apk instead of just the so file. I tried to adb push it in sdk tools and it still doesn't work.
EDIT: OK I think I must have pushed it to the wrong folder because I tried again and now it is working for me.

this worked for me but only using the Hulu.apk, and not the website on Droid Incredible Cyanogenmod 6.1
For those of you following along with the thread in the development forum, I'm not allowed to post in there yet but I've come across something of interest.
I took the resources.arsc file out of the framework-res-uastring.apk posted there and put it in the framework-res.apk that I pulled from my WiFi Xoom, and wouldn't you know, it worked!
I'm testing for stability now, but I can say that it's working for me so far. I've attached my modified framework-res.apk in case anyone wants to test along with me without going through the trouble of mashing files.
Nice, I was wondering if that would work. Just a word of caution though, since this resources.arsc comes from the US 3g Xoom it only has US-English and Spanish support.
Can someone test this and verify it works?

Works. Don't forget to reboot after applyng. I will post back if I notice any side effects but so far no problems.

Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I tried it and caused multiple FC's on me as soon as it rebooted.
I however did the samething you did and pulled my framework-res.apk, added the resources.asrc file to it and then pushed it and all was good. Thanks for the idea!
Thanks for that Codespeare. I have posted a version for the Canadian WIFI Xoom ONLY under the Dev section OT.

pulled my framework-res.apk & added the resources.asrc file. works great. thanks Codespear!!!
I did it too, worked. EXCELLENT!
Will try now, thank you so much, I love you really I do.
EDIT: works... but at what cost? I have noticed the keyboard has been acting up, sort of how like the Gingerbread keyboard screws up from time to time, I don't think it's it me, but sometimes when I type something like backck it does that! Back back back backck, I have never noticed this before hand.... I am typing this out on my Xoom right now just to let you know. I hope this wasn't the fix. Still the keyboard works okay but that annoying bug that Gingerbread gets is present... pretty weird. Hope for a fix if this is really the UA string fix. Thanks anyways, it works great!

You can now load up a website in full desktop mode by default. If you don't have this all websites will load into their mobile versions, because it detects it is Android and makes it suitable for the screen. Since Android works on tablet PCs now, this should be an interchangable option, however I don't think Google thought of this when they were making the browser.

Yes, a server issue. They stated it will be back on line in a few hours.
Anyone have any luck? I tried to dl it, but it said I don't have an Android device. So I loaded it to my Droid & dropped it into my dropbox. Now I have the Swype loder installed on my Xoom, but it's telling me there's a network problem and it won't find the mama ship.

How did you get it to work? When I try it just says your device is not an Android phone, is there a trick?
Not sure, I already had the installer on my xoom. I just ran the installer, updated installer, and then downloaded swype. I am pretty sure that they only allow it to be installed on 2 devices too.

Just downloaded the installer and then installed it, its not bad. Not as nice looking as the stock keyboard but a decent alternative, used it to type this post!

If anyone is having issues where installer says disable swype and you do, but its not seeing it....use root explorer and just delete swype apk and it will all work.
One nice feature is that you can make keyboard smaller and then move the keyboard to wherever you want, allowing it to be used with one thumb. I like it and have been waiting for this since I got my zoom.

That allowed me to download the installer, but as soon as I try to login in the installer app, it says there was a data error, likely due to a bad network connection. I know I have a good wifi connection. Anyone else getting this? I have a non-activated vzw model

Can someone with a ROOTED 3.1 Iconia and Netflix running post the lib files? I want to try and port/hack them to the Transformer to get Netflix running since it runs on the Iconia and not the Transformer.
TIA
First wrong section and second Netflix unless in the last couple days something amazing happened. It does not work? Even with build prop editing

It does work on the Iconia, a lot of people have reported it working. I guess if a mod could move it over that would help. I might just delete this and start a new one. But it also works on the XOOM, Galaxy Tab and now the Iconia, now just need it to work on the Transformer.
Did you try googling the netflix.zip files. You can flash it through CWM if you find it. It will contain the lib files. I'm at work but I'll try to find it later

Simple enough, change you r Build.prop info to match the Nexus S. If you got as far as you did, then changing the platform info might let it stream. Just make sure to back up you original Build.prop to revert if it doesn't work.
Also, you will need to reboot when changing the file for it to take hold, and it will affect the Market.
Ceger
bump.
really want this to be confirmed as 'working streaming' and not simply editing of queue items.
If any geniuses out there know what's causing this, or could help me determine what it is, I'd be eternally grateful.
I changed ro.product.model=SPH-D700 to Nexus S to get Netflix working. Netflix worked, but the email app would crash constantly.. I've since reverted my build.prop file and that fixed it. Is there anything anyone can think of that may be causing this?
A device authentication requirement inside of exchange. Any edits to that might permanently break exchange functionality. Because as I'm aware, it would be both on device and server.

Turns out either A. Netflix works without a build.prop mod, or B. just needed to be installed with it modded. Either way, I restored my old build.prop, netflix AND exchange work.

Netflix works without the build.prop mod, the mod is only needed to be able to download the netflix app from the market (because it isn't officially available for the Epic, because the Epic doesn't officially have GB yet)
Edit: the post above mind brings up a calif point that I neglected - you need the modified .apk for it to work without the build.prop mod
