Hi everyone, my dad has a Xoom on ics (official) 4.0.3 and it keeps dropping wifi connection. I tried static IP, dmz, and no difference. Wifi is working fine on my laptop, Motorola defy, HTC espresso, BB bold, etc. Any ideas? Router is a netgeat n600 wndr3700. Thanks!

I'm having a similar issue. I was using Skype for a video call and my wifi would drop every 15 minutes (or so). My phone would still be connected as well as my laptop. I noticed on my Xoom the wifi would completely drop a connection and then reconnect within 60 seconds. I've noticed at other times it seems to happen around once a day. I'm using a Linksys 600N dual band router but my Xoom is connected to the G band and not the N band. Hope we can find something that might fix this.

yeah i have the same issue when trying to stream anything from bbc iplayer. and im sure it isnt my isp because i am on a 50mb package.
I noticed this issue once my second xoom that arrived today registered to my network. I thought there was a conflict of some sort, so i just assigned each xoom their own individual IP via my routers Address Reservation feature. The problem is still there, but less often. Went from losing connection every few minutes, to every few hours or so.
Alright I'll try that

This is strange. Last night I went over to a friend's house and brought my Xoom along. While there I tried to go online with no success, although the lap top and my phone picked up the router signal. On the other hand my Xoom showed no wifi signal and wouldn't even scan for one. Came home the next morning and all is good with the Xoom's wifi scan and connections. There are times when my Xoom will not find a wifi signal right away but will find one later. I'm on nightly #81.
This is what I did to fix this, yrmv:
On my router I changed it from "mixed a/b/g/n" to "n only" and I have had a steady connection on both xooms for the past two days.

The WNDR3700 is a piece of crap. I had the exact same router and it caused me all kind of trouble.
I solved my problems by installing openwrt on it. Every device on my home worked perfectly instantly.

Hello everyone,
Recently I upgraded to the 3.1OS and after that I have been having some problems connecting to wifi networks.
I was at my parents house this weekend for fathers day and tried to connect to the network. Every time I connected it would bring the whole network down. On my tablet it would connect, then the signal would go "out of range" and when I looked at my phone I noticed it was back on 3g. After several attempts I determined it was my tablet that brought down the network.
I had been previously been able to connect using the 3.0 OS.
The network provider is Fios.
My tablet is unrooted
Any suggestions or ideas?
Hi, I am experiencing the same problem with 3.0.1 the wifi connection was working just fine. After I upgraded to 3.1 I am loosing signal, the strenght of the signal is much much lower as it used to be.
What I read in 3.1 they downgraded the wifi driver, maybe this is the reason.
T.
Is it possible to check any logs on your router (if it supports it) and see what exactly happened..
It is not about the router, my PC or my Desire get full strength signal. Even with EEE pad before update to 3.1 I had no wifi drops.
So form my point of view the driver is the issue.
There was some mention of people having issues with the non-NA supported channels like 13 and 14. Are you guys using these?
workaround
While not an answer to your specific problem, you could use the wifi on you phone and then tether your Transformer to it...that way you wouldnt be using up the 3G from your phone , still using the wifi technically..
Just an idea to get around your problem...
Was using channel 11, then I found out a lot of other routers are using 11 also.
So i switched to 9. Helped a little bit, but still not optimal.
Let`s see how it evolves. :-D

Has anyone been experiencing wifi issues recently? The wifi seems to disconnect frequently for no reason at home, even with strong signal strength. Generic UK firmware (rooted) with the latest xloud update. I have unfrozen everything for a few days to test it, but it still has issues. The issues seem to recently have started, but I didn't have them before the xloud update.. hmm..
What I've tried: taking battery out for half an hour, enabling/disabling wifi, deleting/readding wifi access point, and most up to date router firmware (Linksys E3000).
same here.. additionally, as compared to the previous version of 2.3.3 (3.0) the WiFi switch this time takes around 800% longer to connect fully to a network.. jeez
i have a blazing fast connection with a linksys router, so that's not the problem...
I'm having the same problem. Did the x loud update this morning and ever since refusing to connect to wifi networks.
Constantly scanning, connecting then disconnected.
Only tried it on my work wifi so far will test some more on home wifi tonight.

I'm in a condo, at any point I am pretty damn close to the router It's a Linksys E3000 with a lot of transmit power. I didn't have these issues before the xloud update, though, and don't have these issues on other phones and wifi devices.
Yea that's a good router. Is it really running N mode only.

802.11n only, on both 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Blazing fast for all clients (especially on 5ghz), except for when the Xperia Play doesn't want to stay connected.
Anyone been able to solve this issue?
I also have this problem on my R800x, even after yesterday's OTA update to 2.3.3. But it's not recent for me; it's an issue I've always had with this phone. =/
Did you guys go to wifi settings ยป Advanced and changed the wifi sleep policy to never?

Also try going to your router set up page to see if it's assigned the same ip as another client. Otherwise there might be something wrong with with your wifi radio...

It is set to never sleep. No IP address conflicts (multiple locations have the same problem). Only started happening after OTA xloud update.
The only thing left to do is to clear cache on your play. Remove the wifi. Reset and reconfigurate your router and modem also.

Which cache?
I've had problems on the last stock ROM. CM7 cured all those issues for me.
The clear cache you click when flashing a new rom. Like re do your phone from the start.

Well that just sucks. I guess I'll wait until 2.3.4 comes out and hope it fixes the issue.. it's clearly a bug introduced with the xloud update.
I retract me previous complaint. Since the 2.3.3 OTA, I'm noticing the phone is simply renewing its lease with the router. While the signal strength on the phone isn't as good as the original Droid, it seems to be fine. I'm looking more at the rest of the network.
I'm starting to think it's my router giving issues. Why would it need to renew the lease constantly, when it should be 24 hours? I have standby set to never.

I've got 3 brand new routers (my place, friend's place, parent's place) that are all giving issues with the new firmware. I definitely think it's SE's fault on this one, as my gf's Desire Z with 2.3.3 doesn't have any issues.
The wifi refused to stay connected to all my networks (home, parent's house, work). Finally, today I have decided to flash back to Generic UK 2.3.2 and rooted. Now wifi stays connected perfectly (downloading all the games back, several gigs complete). Looks like it was a firmware problem. I'll wait for 2.3.4 to be available OTA before I hit update this time (skipping xloud update completely).
Hi, I'm having this problem with internet connection using the portable Wi-Fi hotspot on my Galaxy Nexus. My A500 connects without a hitch to the Nexus but after 12 mins (this happens after each connection),it disconnects then waits for about 20secs before establishing connection again. This can be annoying especially when streaming videos on the A500 which tends to result in starting the videos all over again ie after each disconnection.
What can i do to resolve this issue?
I'm on Stock Honeycomb 3.2.1 and not rooted. Thanks

I connect my tablet to my liquid metal I got disconnected only when the 3G goes down... but never the wifi.
check maybe setting wifi policy etc... maybe.
check your phone as well.
try another device I mean tablet to another device, another device to nexus...

The hotspot connection on GNexus seem to be active each time the internet connection on the A500 goes down. I've checked the wifi sleep policy on both devices. They are both set to "never (when on battery)". May be software on GNexus need to be updated in order for this issue to be resolved. I used to have an HTC Desire as a mobile hotspot device which worked though once A500 is inactive, the connection on the HTC ends.

im not sure exactly what one would be your best bet.. But on the phone. try d/loading a wifi/3g data usage and analyzer app. Something that can watch the data services and give a report on what is happening.
SORRY I cant give you a app name to try but i have not had any wifi/3g issues so not used one..
Good luck..
I have similar problem on my a500 . When I connect to my AP I usually get 4/5 bars but after some time without moving anywhere my signal drops slowly to 0 bars, tablet disconnects and reconnect after 1 sec with 4 bars. And so on... No idea how to fix that bug.

That problem you speak about was an old HC bug...
the wifi drop
I got it, but on the version 3.2 that was resolved, and ACER released a kind of... patch about this year ago.
- Wifi work then when connect drop down to 0 and disconnect then try to reconnect... that was a problem from a file supplicant things. needed to be deleted.

I bet it's your phone software got a problem something like that. did you try to connect the tablet to another wifi and see how long stay connected...
my tablet is connected on a hotpot 24/7 nearly and got rarely disconnected.

The problem is,the connection on the phone is stable and everything that requires internet access on the GNexus seem to gain access to it. Also, when the tablet is connected to my home Wi-Fi, it never disconnects or drop signals. So, it seems the issue is between the A500 and the GNexus. Probably a software bug btw the hotspot on GNexus and the connection to A500 or the connections btw the two devices are incompatible due to one being on honeycomb and the other on ICS. Just my opinion anyway

You might be right about the GNEXUS cos when I was using an HTC Desire as a hotspot, there weren't any issues with connections. Probably, the next ics update for the GNEXUS might resolve the issue. Its a shame that I've already sold the HTC Desire.

Got simlar problem:
i use GNex hotspot to connect a tablet to internet (it's the tablet part of the Erisin EA779A car stereo) and after few minutes the tab gets disconnected.
i've tried to connect it to my old Nexus S usinf hotspot wifi and the connection seems to be stable
Both Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S have cyano9 nightly
I was wondering if the issue is just caused by a switch from 2,4ghz signal to 5ghz...
i have to try with another device connected to the phone to see if it drops
hi folks,
this happens both my nexus 7 and galaxy nexus from time to time. While connected to my home wifi they will loose internet connection. They are still connected to my router as i can ping devices on the network. I have to disconnect and reconnect to get net access back again. Im using WPA2 Personal encryption on the routher with tkip/aes
Anyone else experience anything simillar? I have no issues on my work wifi.. it stays connected all the time

Its frustrating as my 7 and Galaxy Nexus are solid as a rock on wifi at work.. both experience the issues at home. I'll try boosting the power output as suggested here tonight and see how it goes
Comment 31 by lamyjeanfrancois, Aug 16, 2012
Changing home router to a wrt-based asus rt-n66u and boosting the output power to the maximum US allowed value of 100mW fixed it for me. Other devices were working fine, even lowly archos 28 mini tablets. It seems that jb is misinterpreting signal strength.
I dont want to run a static IP.
More related to the issue here:

Some testing last night, i upped the output power on my ddwrt router - that didnt stop the issue from happening. Then i went with a static IP. This seemed more stable but i still lost connectivety at one point, only for it to return on its own - before i would have had to connect/disconnect from the access point to restore internet. More testing tonight.. its very frustrating! I dont think its a hardware issue as its happening with both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7. Anyone else having simillar issues?
Same here
I Experience the same, happens almost every hour or so.
All my other wi fi devices have no problems, just nexus 7
Hehehe it seems many of us having wifi range issue. I checked my wifi signal strength thru wifi analyzer app and it seems wifi is solid if only I always have more than -40dBm strength. Which means I needed to be always closer to the router, can't make it when I'm already at my room. Quite annoying but I guess I had to send it to service center.
Tapatalked from my Ace 2
Same problem here....
Weird thing is I have 2 routers connected to each other (dhcp off on second one), having same problem on both routers. I thought it was the internet connection as my HTC Desire does the same thing.
I also tested the nexus 7 wifi with my 3g Desire via hotspot.... and no issues at all for 3 hours+.
So i'm pretty sure its not a nexus issue, unless there are some compatability issues from my nexus to the router.
Ideas anyone?
using static IP at home seems to be stable.. cant understand what different though between work and home that it works fine in the office.. must be a config parameter on my access point at home

I'm really happy with the phone so far, but my wifi disconnects fairly regularly and I keep getting a force close on the SMCC Process (whatever that is). Anyone else having problems?
I just read the thread below this and that issue seems similar.
EDIT: I tried turning off the smart wifi, but it still loses connection. The phone still shows that it's connected to whatever wifi signal, but stops downloading. This happens both at home and at work, so I don't believe it's related to the router itself.
I'm seeing the same issue on mine as well. Noticed it last night playing Pandora via wifi. Would play like 3 songs then nothing. I would have to toggle wifi on/off to get Pandora playing again.

Sounds like basically the same thing. If I wait long enough, it comes back on its own, but it's faster to just cycle wifi or airplane mode once. It's fairly frustrating, and I even found myself just using 3G to do things last night instead of Wifi.
seems to be a known issue in other S4 forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254568&page=2
Mixed Mode WIFI
I had this exact same problem with my EVO 4G LTE, the problem was the mixed mode WIFI. (B,G,N). On the EVO it turned out to be an easy fix because there was a setting in the WIFI menu to force either B or G. As soon as I selected one mode I had a solid internet connection. The problem here is there does not seem to be an option in the S4 settings to allow this. I have been trying to force single mode on my router to see if that will fix it but my router will not allow me to turn it off either. Pretty serious bug I would say.
WIFI worthless on brand new S4
If you are having issues with this you might want to check this thread out!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253471&page=3
it doesn't do it as often as it did with the SGS3 though
I really wish I could find a resolution to this. I'm thinking of wiping my phone and starting over to make sure it isn't an app issue, but man that's a lot of work.
Im having the same issue as well.. Im almost positive its common issue and i would expect it to be addressed in the next OTA
The common link seems to be DLink router. We have a Cisco Linksys router and it stays hooked up solid on that.
I have an Asus router. Don't know if there are usually problems with those or not, but I haven't had any prior issues.
I have a Cisco e4200 stock and a Asus running ddwrt operating as a wireless bridge to extend my network. I had to turn off mixed mode on both devices to resolve the issue. Hope that helps.

I have the same problem but I have Netgear routers. The one at my house works fine, but at my other location. The wifi drops.
Same problem on dlink
Adding my 2 cents because I have 2 S4's that I've been testing with and I'm getting mixed results... my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right!
I have 2 wireless routers at home:
- DLink DIR-655
- One provided by my ISP (Bell Canada; not sure of the model at the moment)
The DIR-655 is troublesome for BOTH S4 devices; they stay connected for a few minutes (or longer in some cases) but will always end up not transferring data even though they show as having a very strong signal. Turning wifi on/off always fixes the issue for a short period of time.
Knowing that there seem to be compatibility issues with the S4 and DLink router, I switched them both over to the Bell router. Now only one of the devices has the wifi issue described above.
I found it odd that changing the router being used fixed the issue for one of the devices but not the other. I'm now questioning whether one device has a hardware issue or not (doubtful on this, but worth questioning).
Both S4's have the most up-to-date firmware as do all of the routers in the house. No other devices (iPhones, laptops, apple tv, etc...) have any issues with the wifi.
I've tried resetting the routers, forgetting the wifi connection and setting it back up, rebooting the phone, smashing my head against the wall; nothing seems to have worked permanently.
Is it possible that this is a hardware issue and not a software issue? Has anyone else had similar results with multiple devices?
fix....?
this wifi drops are due to the router WIFI signal setting. it will drop it you are using a B/G Mixed signal/ B/G/N Mixed signal. i recommend setting it on 802.11 g. or, if all your Devices in the house have N use N since it has more bandwidth. i use G because of the PS3
Hope this helps resolve the issue for you guys, it sure did for me.

Thanks for the suggestion, I can attest that this wasn't a permanent solution for me. After switching to N mode only, the amount of times the issue occurred was reduced, but still happens at least once per day.
It's also a pain when I'm connected to networks where I have no control over the wireless settings (work, public networks, friends networks).
I have a linksys modem and router. Haven't had a single connection issue with this phone as I had with my EVO. As my wifi disconnects and reconnects right away. Lol. First time that has happened. Knocked on wood.
