Has anyone been experiencing wifi issues recently? The wifi seems to disconnect frequently for no reason at home, even with strong signal strength. Generic UK firmware (rooted) with the latest xloud update. I have unfrozen everything for a few days to test it, but it still has issues. The issues seem to recently have started, but I didn't have them before the xloud update.. hmm..
What I've tried: taking battery out for half an hour, enabling/disabling wifi, deleting/readding wifi access point, and most up to date router firmware (Linksys E3000).
same here.. additionally, as compared to the previous version of 2.3.3 (3.0) the WiFi switch this time takes around 800% longer to connect fully to a network.. jeez
i have a blazing fast connection with a linksys router, so that's not the problem...
I'm having the same problem. Did the x loud update this morning and ever since refusing to connect to wifi networks.
Constantly scanning, connecting then disconnected.
Only tried it on my work wifi so far will test some more on home wifi tonight.

How far are you from your router? I don't get dc even when I have one bar in the house. Before I would get dc with 3bars. I bought a new netgear rangeboost router that fixed everything.

I'm in a condo, at any point I am pretty damn close to the router It's a Linksys E3000 with a lot of transmit power. I didn't have these issues before the xloud update, though, and don't have these issues on other phones and wifi devices.
Yea that's a good router. Is it really running N mode only.

802.11n only, on both 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Blazing fast for all clients (especially on 5ghz), except for when the Xperia Play doesn't want to stay connected.
Anyone been able to solve this issue?
I also have this problem on my R800x, even after yesterday's OTA update to 2.3.3. But it's not recent for me; it's an issue I've always had with this phone. =/
Did you guys go to wifi settings ยป Advanced and changed the wifi sleep policy to never?

Also try going to your router set up page to see if it's assigned the same ip as another client. Otherwise there might be something wrong with with your wifi radio...

It is set to never sleep. No IP address conflicts (multiple locations have the same problem). Only started happening after OTA xloud update.
The only thing left to do is to clear cache on your play. Remove the wifi. Reset and reconfigurate your router and modem also.

Which cache?
I've had problems on the last stock ROM. CM7 cured all those issues for me.
The clear cache you click when flashing a new rom. Like re do your phone from the start.

Well that just sucks. I guess I'll wait until 2.3.4 comes out and hope it fixes the issue.. it's clearly a bug introduced with the xloud update.
I retract me previous complaint. Since the 2.3.3 OTA, I'm noticing the phone is simply renewing its lease with the router. While the signal strength on the phone isn't as good as the original Droid, it seems to be fine. I'm looking more at the rest of the network.
I'm starting to think it's my router giving issues. Why would it need to renew the lease constantly, when it should be 24 hours? I have standby set to never.

I've got 3 brand new routers (my place, friend's place, parent's place) that are all giving issues with the new firmware. I definitely think it's SE's fault on this one, as my gf's Desire Z with 2.3.3 doesn't have any issues.
The wifi refused to stay connected to all my networks (home, parent's house, work). Finally, today I have decided to flash back to Generic UK 2.3.2 and rooted. Now wifi stays connected perfectly (downloading all the games back, several gigs complete). Looks like it was a firmware problem. I'll wait for 2.3.4 to be available OTA before I hit update this time (skipping xloud update completely).

wifi
last night when i was trying to download an app from marketplace?
Yeah, I've just started noticing that. It wasn't doing it most of yesterday and I was using it pretty heavily. It started last night when I noticed both the 3G and wi-fi icons were on. I restarted wifi and it still showed up like that, so I rebooted. Now it seems like it's always on 3G when I pick it up.
What kind of router are you using?

I used to have this problem regularly with mine and my girl's Droids on 2.1, and appeared to be related to using secured wireless networks. I was able to set up a test wireless network with no security and the disconnects stopped happening. Switch back and 5 to 15 minutes later I was disconnected again. I never found a fix for it on 2.1, but the problem completely went away with 2.2.
Unsure if they're related, but from what people are describing, this sounds exactly like the issues I used to have prior to rooting/2.2 on our Droids.
I noticed that it was with wep encryption only. I looked through wpa and etc and there was less dropage. Now, i don't know if your all aware, the ipad does the same thing. The only place i seen it hold up well was the wpa and the hotspot app on board.
I wonder if this is just the new radios and modems in these devices?

OK. Let me start by saying I'm not an expert but I may have found a solution. Go to wi-FI networks and go to wireless settings. Then click on options hard key and choose advanced. then choose Wi-Fi sleep policy and set it to never.
So far so good for me. Let me know if anyone has any luck.

Yeah, I'm still having major issues. My phone will drop WiFi very often. Im going to try unsecured next. I've tried changing from tkip to are, tried turning off the sleep function... nothing. It happens most frequently when I'm doing heavy traffic like from or two another computer, where it maxes out the bandwidth capabilities of the phone...

Have you double checked not only the advanced settings under Wifi for always on, but which battery profile you're running? The default profile is the Smart one, which disables wifi/3g after so many minutes of being idle after peak hours.

Having the same issue
I don't have to be downloading anything, the phone could just be sitting there and the WIFI disconnects even with a app like SKYPE running in the back ground. My current internet is 20 meg down with 4 meg up and of all the devices this is the only one that disconnects or has any kind of connection issues.
Happens about 10 times a day. So annoying
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
Yes, I get this with my PLAY.
No other devices have this problem in my house. Stable connection that is on all the time.
Really annoying in Rainbow 6, particulary since it doesn't seem to save your stats with you disconnect because of a Wi-Fi droput.
Also sometimes have problems when it comes out of sleep mode, have to turn off wifi, then on again on the PLAY.
Very annoying.
Could it be to do with the security settings on your routers? Mines set to WPA2 PSK with a 13 character password and its never dropped connection. Or could it be the make of your routers? Mines a Netgear router. If a few people post there setup maybe we can find a similarity between them and find out if it's the phone, router, setup or all of them that's the problem.

The distance you are to the router makes a big difference. I think the wifi receiver on the play is weaker then other devices.

Yes. I havent updated yet, I'm hoping that 2.3.3 will fix it.
It says I'm connected yet stops working. I have to turn off the wi-fi then turn it back on to get it working again.

I have the same security on mine. The router is wireless n from my provider. It ie a router modem in one.
I did back when I was on 2.3.2. It was so annoying. I could have 2 computers, an iPad, and my Play connected to the same router and only the Play would disconnect continually.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
I have the same problem with 2.3.3 the wifi just keep disconnecting is really annoying. Does any one know if this is a bug or a real design or hardware problem that wont be fixed wit updates?
It's wifi range isn't as far reached as other devices.

Wireless N simply doesn't work. On G and B I get connected but 90% of the time I'm connected with no internet access. I use g band then b band and get no data. Turn off wifi and my 2 bars of 3g works ok. Turn back on wifi it connects and nothing can access data.

How many devices connect to your router? By the way, what security do you use on your router? Get rid of your router throwing B signal, its ancient history. I connect to N/G/B no prob.
Edit:
P.S. Does anyone else tinker with your Router besides you? Did you recently turn Mac Filtering on? Do you run software such as Cisco Network Solutions? It could 'block' out 'intruders' from connecting when in reality its just your phone. Lol
I.have a new n router, dual chain or whatever n is in the 500mghtz band. I have seven devices connected. I use wpa security.

I does have a firewall on and off (vizio router). Firewall doesn't seem to make a difference. It can and currently is setup to broadcast three separate networks. 500Mhz for n good for tv's, one I choose for g only (can do auto which is n g and b), one for older devices b band only. Phone has no data with any of the three networks. But connects to to all three.

AFAIK, our Epics only connect on 2.4Ghz on wireless N. I don't think it is capable of connecting on 5Ghz...but don't quote me on that, I may be wrong.
I've connected to a 5Ghz router before, did have issues keeping a stable connection even though it was set to auto B/G/N
I don't know if you mind, but why not try throwing out 2.4Ghz frequency? Make sure your channel is 1-11. I remember the Epic not being able to connect with Data if the channel was persay, 21.
I'd get rid of the B signal, an old laptop or a PSP are the only two devices that come to mind when I think of a device that only takes B signal.. lmao.
Good point, I think the auto channel thing puts it up past 11...
I will report back. thanks for the help everyone, I do appreciate any feedback.

Simple my friend, not enough RAM to allow it to stay connected, so by default, the epic's Adminstrative commands terminate it in order to free up resources. Thus trying to save you battery etc. If you free up resources, like clear ram, (level 1&2) you'll notice you can connect right back as soon as you do that. The more you run at once, or even background processes eat up your ram. Some common that come to mind: Google+, Live Wallpaper, weather/clock widgets, to name a few.

Thanks for the explanation...but I find it weird that it's always overnight, and not when I have lots of apps going during normal use. Shouldn't there be much more RAM free when nothing's hapenning in the foreground? It's not every night either, only some.
Hi everyone, my dad has a Xoom on ics (official) 4.0.3 and it keeps dropping wifi connection. I tried static IP, dmz, and no difference. Wifi is working fine on my laptop, Motorola defy, HTC espresso, BB bold, etc. Any ideas? Router is a netgeat n600 wndr3700. Thanks!

I'm having a similar issue. I was using Skype for a video call and my wifi would drop every 15 minutes (or so). My phone would still be connected as well as my laptop. I noticed on my Xoom the wifi would completely drop a connection and then reconnect within 60 seconds. I've noticed at other times it seems to happen around once a day. I'm using a Linksys 600N dual band router but my Xoom is connected to the G band and not the N band. Hope we can find something that might fix this.

yeah i have the same issue when trying to stream anything from bbc iplayer. and im sure it isnt my isp because i am on a 50mb package.
I noticed this issue once my second xoom that arrived today registered to my network. I thought there was a conflict of some sort, so i just assigned each xoom their own individual IP via my routers Address Reservation feature. The problem is still there, but less often. Went from losing connection every few minutes, to every few hours or so.
Alright I'll try that

This is strange. Last night I went over to a friend's house and brought my Xoom along. While there I tried to go online with no success, although the lap top and my phone picked up the router signal. On the other hand my Xoom showed no wifi signal and wouldn't even scan for one. Came home the next morning and all is good with the Xoom's wifi scan and connections. There are times when my Xoom will not find a wifi signal right away but will find one later. I'm on nightly #81.
This is what I did to fix this, yrmv:
On my router I changed it from "mixed a/b/g/n" to "n only" and I have had a steady connection on both xooms for the past two days.

The WNDR3700 is a piece of crap. I had the exact same router and it caused me all kind of trouble.
I solved my problems by installing openwrt on it. Every device on my home worked perfectly instantly.
I run my N7_16G_WIFI stock.
I received the 4.2.2 update over the weekend. Now, though my wifi seems to be connected, and you see upstream/downstream animation in the notification area, play music isn't downloading the download queue, but fails. Websites load, but speedtest app fails to complete the searching for server phase. Installing apps from the play store works, eventually, but Netflix, YouTube, and other medium to high bandwidth apps are not. Even my weather app will only load the weather alert page, yet maps, forecast, etc are unusable.
Will test LAN performance to gauge the extent of the problem, perhaps related to traffic passing through the gateway. No other devices on the network are affected, however. I usually stream files from my DLNA server with no problem, so I can test that tonight.
Has anyone had any issues with flaky WIFI after the update? I had no such issues before.
I've been having constant disconnect/auto reconnect after the update to 4.2.2. No other device on my network is having this issue though.

Dang
My wi-fi was flawless before the update and is just as good after 4.2.2. I sincerely doubt the update caused a problem if it installed correctly. Many posts refer to fixing wi-fi issues by updating/resetting the router. I have a pretty new router with the latest firmware update.

Same here. I expect to have problems in my neighborhood; Urban area and everyone has WiFi. I brought it to work to test on our Meru network, though, and still had the same problem. At work, we are the only building on a 100+acre lot, with saturated WiFi signal. I still had the same issues.
On a factory upgrade, not sure what I could have done incorrectly, since I just tapped "Yes, install" and went to bed.
