[Q] De-bloated EL30 ROM with latest updates? - Epic 4G General

I have the pre-rooted stock EL30 ROM from this forum. It's nice enough but the version of Superuser in it isn't the latest and now Google has released a new update to Market, calling it Play Store, plus Google Books has been updated.
For de-bloating, dump Football, Nascar, TeleNav, Amazon MP3, DLNA, SprintTV, Sprint Zone, MediaHub, the Asphalt 5 and Free HD Game stubs and the tutorials.
ThinkFree Office could stay.
Thanks for doing the hard work so we who aren't Android uber-geeks don't have to!

It's not the responsibility of the devs to update apps for you.

Exactly this. Just update your stuff from the "Play store" and use Root Explorer or SDX App removal tool to delete the apps you don't want. Devs are not in the habit of making custom ROMs for one person. They won't come and make your bed either.

Where did I ask just for me and only me? Everyone using rooted stock EL30 would appreciate it.
Having the updates integrated creates a cleaner install.

Here's the same answer only not as rude:
Everyone has a different idea of what "bloat" is. for instance, you think thinkfree and books should stay. Lots of people think that is bloat. Since you are already rooted its real easy and quick to remove what you don't want. As far as the updates, they hit way to often to keep them current. Just let the phone update itself.

Keyword here is STOCK. That ROM is for people who want the ability to choose which STOCK apps they wish to keep. If you want all of the apps listed in your first post removed, choose any other custom ROM. They will most likely have those removed.

You are asking for a burger with no pickles and extra mayo. True some may want exactly what you are asking for, others may want Nascar still in there just as an example. These are very easy things for you to do yourself. Sleeper has a lite version EL30 ROM already out. CleanGB has most bloat removed. These already exist. All you have to do is update an app or two yourself and delete anything you feel is extra. Last I checked the EL30 users here are very happy with these ROMs. Try one. If you need help making it perfect for you, download it and ask for what to do and we will help you. You can open the zip, pull files out of the system\app directory before flashing and it will be your personal version.

But kenny, we all have real lives and the devs just sit around all day waiting for us to make insane requests to give them something to do.

Thanks to those who had constructive comments to make.
I'd keep the NASCAR app if it was actually worth the bother. Much of the time it doesn't work and it's always a lap or two behind.

[Q] Fascinate Necessities?????

So I just got my Fascinate last week. I'm new to Android and I'm trying to get a grasp on what the popular/necessary apps, widgets, roots, launchers, etc. are...... So here is the question- What did you do straight away when you got your phone? And what do you wish you had done straight away?
Root, install de bloated rom of choice, install voodoo, profit

Where does one find these debloated roms?
Also I'm coming from a samsung omnia, my mind struggles to grasp how anyone considers this phone bogged down. So what is the purpose of rooting?

First, before you do ANYTHING, read about what you're doing, what the repercussions are, and DON'T do anything to the OS of your phone if you don't know what you're doing. That being said, there's more than enough people around here willing to help if you ask educated questions, and use the search function, as a lot of questions have already been answered. The above thread is excellent reading as to how to get started.
IMHO, Root, install a clean (de-bloated) ROM of your choice (many of which can be found in the Fascinate-->android development sub forum), and then if you want install a custom kernel, voodoo enabled or not, overclocked or not. Just read a bit, it'll all become clear very soon...
Welcome to a Fascinating world.....ugh that was a terrible pun.

I came from an Omnia too. Reading these threads makes me wonder how many of the guys complaining about the bloat/lag had ever seen any WinMo phones...
In terms of removing bloat, a really easy way to hide it is simply use LauncherPro from the market. Aside from being crazy customizable, you can hide apps you don't want to see from showing up in your app drawer. Not exactly removing, but as mentioned baby steps can save you from that sinking feeling most of us have had...
Either way this phone kills the Omnia dead!

Amen!!
I still pine for ListPro and Pocket Informant, tho.
lots of good information here. The only thing I would add is that you should probably steer clear of Voodoo for the time being. Yes, it does really speed things up however do to the fact that it changes the filesystem type of your /data partition it no longer allows you to perform full backups (Nandroid) of your phone unless you disable the Voodoo lag fix which has rendered several phones (including mine) unable to fully boot without restoring to stock.
Voodoo will NOT brick your phone but anyone considering using Voodoo should be prepared to lose all their data and know how to flash back to stock. If you are not willing / able to accept that risk I highly recommend avoiding Voodoo - at least for now.

(REQ) Can someone deodex DJ05?

I have searched and found out how, but adb just won't work for me, period, so I am stuck. Can anyone deodex DJ05?
It's already been deodexed.

As close to stock as possible? All I have found were other roms that had stuff removed that I actually use, and by just replacing the apks, they no longer work. if you could maybe post a link instead of just say its been done and for a long time it might actually help. Otherwise, you just come off a rude and unhelpful, whether that's your intention or not. Thanks
Why don't you download a deodexed one then replace the apks yourself through rom manager? You can't expect devs to tailor a deodexed package just for you though. Just saying

Tried that and had said that some of the things didn't work properly...like vcast music would not full ,download songs, license aquisition would fail everytime. I never realized that so many people would flame me for requesting this. Someone was nice enough to post a deodexed DI01, thought maybe it could happen with DJ05. Sorry I asked now
Not flaming just bring realistic. I don't know of any roms that keep vcast music though since almost no one uses it. good luck getting it to work though
Sent from my sch-i500 using dj05 w/ stupidfast kernel
What led me to the flaming was your good luck comment, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted. I like vcast because it bills to my account and I don't have to use my card every time plus less things have my card info. Had my identity stolen once, I'm a little over cautious
Why don't you just use music junk for music? Or does vcast have features other than downloading music?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
if you search google for 'dj05 deodexed', the first result is a post on another forum that has a link to the rom you want. i'm not sure if i'm allowed to link to files from other forums, but you can easily search google and get it.
EDIT: here, i'll make it even easier for you: http://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=dj05+deodexed
www.androiddoes.net/sonofskywalker3/roms/StockDeodexedDJ05.zip
the reason that vcast music doesn't work on Blackhole is that the DRM files have been removed. Dont know if you tried Blackhole or not, but other roms may have it removed as well. haven't had a request to get vcast music working yet so i haven't messed with it. enjoy the stock deodexed dj05, and don't worry about people giving you a hard time. you know what you want, why you want it, and don't have to explain yourself to anyone.
Btw, if the deodex failed on something to do with LBS, it's not necessary, just delete the apk and odex file altogether. just a piece of advice in case you want to try again.
Edit: retracted (way too harsh)
Do you have an account with amazon? If you do, they have an mp3 downloader app. Generally very good bitrates and you don't have to reenter information every time. Good luck again and sorry if I came off as snarky

Thanks, I first used blackhole, but ran into the whole some things were gone our when I re-added the apk the apps would be there but wouldn't work right. I really appreciate your positivity. I came from the world of RIM, where I could do anything I wanted to my bb, but haven't reached that level yet with my fascinate. (i mean I could actually tweak the os with leaked versions etc) if I could get my computer to let adb work I would be in a whole new boat, but sadly I think I will have to use the work of geniuses like yourself.

I do have an amazon acct, but never used their mp3 service. The extra .70 doesn't kill me for the occassional song I don't download from itunes or just buy the album in BestBuy. It's just nice to have the ability to get one song directly on my phone and still be able to download for my computer too. A lot of people don't realize that while you pay 1.99, you get the instant download on the phone, another when you log in to rhapsody, and have the ability to bill to carrier. Its a convenience thing for me. It's ok that you came off snarky, I realized you weren't being a total @ss, and thanked your post. I understand some parolee get frustrated when noobs like me ask for this stuff, but then again, the title said what I needed and the others opened it and commented just to be rude. I appreciate the help I have been given and hopefully with a little bit more time, I will be able to help others. That's seriously the point to these forums right? To help each other out?
cough, cough.
good day.
There's an app called mp3 music download. I use it all the time. Its free. The musics free. Even stores the song on your sd.

Newbie Question

I have rooted my phone and now I want to start playing with the ROMs.
My question is, what rom manager is the best. Is "rom manger" good?
If so, I notice it will give you a list of all the rom's and let you know of all the updates.
I have a Droid X with the lastest update from Verizon.
Please let me know

Yes rom manager is probably best but if you want to have the latest and greatest download the "team black hat" app in the market for $2 and thry usually throw out the lateat releases for donators.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Don't listen to that load of crap. Team Black Hat (also known as P3Droid) releases buggy apps, and half-ROMs, along with FAKED .SBF's, created by himself, NOT Motorola. It's a shame people still support him after TWO instances on the Droid X alone, where using his "ROMs" and "Updates" would leave your phone useless, and unable to .SBF back to stock.
Oh, and it's a paid app. Only Android community app I've ever paid for is ROM Manager back for my Droid1, because it's worth it, and koush is LIGHTYEARS ahead of Team MoneyBags.
Yes, download ROM Manager.

Ok, no need to be harsh about things... P3 and those guys have contributed a TON to the android community, including the SBF files you are bashing against. I was just giving out the info that was requested. I personally don't use the team black hat app, but the question was about ROM managers in general.
Please don't come into the forums and rant and rave about a potentially bad experience you had and add bias to a simple question.
Thank you for the information.
If i want to try different ROMs, is there a way to save apps or app files. For example, Angry Birds saved games?
I'm just wondering if i have to reinstall all my apps again or if i can restore them through a backup software.

If anybody knows of a way to get the crt animation going that they seemed to have removed for the tab, please post or pm! Thanks!

Don't see a post for this, maybe this is dumb, but good to have this information east at hand for others. Please inform me if I'm wrong of if any progress is made (hopefully soon!)
There is currently no exploit out to root the Sprint Tab on 2.3.4
Super One Click Root will not work, even with GingerBreak, nor will z4root
Looking forward to some sweet progress tho!
If only I were a dev...
The phone call function is even more important for me, but seems no replacement of original phone*.apk from other devices is available now.

The only thing I was using root for was to remove the annoying startup and shutdown videos. There aren't any great ROMs for the Sprint Tab, and the OEM build is pretty solid, so I don't think root access is a big deal for many users at the moment.

I have not tried it just came accross it. I only got Gingerbread running a few minutes ago.\
Edit: This is for Android 2.3.3 and NOT the current Sprint update of 2.3.4.
I'm hoping for a custom kernel with root and CWM soon, and I'd help expedite the process if someone needs a tester. Or even someone to do all the work (as long as there's some direction, i know i could manage to piece things together and compile it, i just suck with actual pure coding)
missing my Ti Backup and others as Chahk mentioned.
Next time use search before you post a question.
It was on the front page of general:

I think it doesn't help that sprint's tab isn't very popular and doesn't have the developers like the GSM does. I know nothing about it but I would guess that even though people are developing roms, that finding a root exploit is a completely different animal. I'm guessing since 2.3.4 isn't on a lot of phones yet doesn't help.

I'm going back to 2.2 until root is achieved for 2.3.4. I mainly got the tab so I could tether on the go. Having to find wifi while out and about when you want to get online is difficult sometimes. If you're lucky to find open and free, many times they have ports blocked. You can only 80 or 8080. I've got wd live and roku and boxee for Netflix and crap.
im definately frustrated i dont have root. i want to put some apks in system/app and cant through crippled file explorers. also, i want to start pushing out some themes. the SGT has gotten little love and that needs to change. i was holding out on FROYO cause i knew it wouldnt be long till everyone was on GB. ive been talking with DRockstar about getting a cwm put together specifically for the SGT and that should get things rolling.
please give me your feedback.

Not at all. Those are great tools and I will be running them again on my Tab once an exploit is discovered. But for the time being, not having those tools doesn't really affect my day to day use of the device much. That includes listening to Slacker, using Facebook, email, browsing, Qik video chat, Netflix, etc. There are a lot of people like me who like the power that comes with root, but not having it for a few weeks or even months isn't going to kill them.

One of the first things I did with root was adjust the pixel density in the build.prop file so the icons didn't look so cartoonish. If the GB update breaks that and I can't fix it, then it might kills me. With the larger icons, the Zeam launcher doesn't even look right at all.

possibly the end of nexus geting updates directly from google

As long as Google pushed the update with a data backup, it shouldn't be an issue, correct? Google would update everything except carrier apps. Carrier could update them like the way Sprint updated Sprint Navigation to Telenav or some other delivery method.

I think that only means that the app is installed into the system app directory, instead of the user app dir. I suppose I will have to adb push an apk into my system app folder to confirm, but I'm fairly certain that the lack of an uninstall button is because android never gives that option for system apps...

Verizon: You are dumb.
Oh well, I still believe it will be google updated.
Guys, in ICS there is a feature in which you can hide the apps.
Also i dont think this really matters. The two apps included are something verizon users may want. Looking at your status with the company and backing up information with the carrier hardly seem like bloat apps to me. Also, this is only the case for verizon and not other carriers like sprint, which can uninstall bloatware apps. I still believe google will be pushing out their own updates.

I'm a little curious why this would discourage anyone here from owning this phone. Are any of you guys buying it with the intention of running stock?
Even if people plan on using cooked roms they still want google to push the updates because that means they would come quicker and therefore the developers would have new versions to create new roms off of.
See. I am learnimg.

Guys, in ICS there is a feature in which you can hide the apps.
Also i dont think this really matters. The two apps included are something verizon users may want. Verizon users that want them could just install them though! that's the complete opposite of them being installed and people who don't want them being unable to uninstall them...

The Verizon customers that don't want them are almost certainly going to know at least enough to be able to remove them, but many of the users that would want them would also fall into that special category of users that know just the bare minimum to be able to use the phone - average users, the ones even XDA noobs can run circles around. They make up the majority of Verizon's customer base, so the big V will cater to them. (They're also a lot more likely to pay for things that can be had for free, because they're a lot less likely to know that those things can be free... it's a two-fold win for any service provider)

Simply put, google can still update the phone.
I don't understand how the OP jumped to the conclusion he did. How does two "bloatware" apps point to "the end of nexus geting [sic] updates directly from google"?
Nonsensical, I tell you!

I think this is the logic:
When a phone gets major customization from a carrier such as Sense or Touchwiz, it complicates the updates and delays updates due to additional testing and debugging needed on these customized ROMS. People are assuming that is the reason why US carriers get updates so much later than the much more plain European versions. So, the OP assumes that adding two Verizon apps is somehow as complex a modification as adding Touchwiz, therefor it will delay the release of jellybean, or whatever the next version will be called.
Seems pretty silly to me.
