My phone has been going nuts force closing on a sprint update. Anyone else? Just started this morning. Of coarse I'm rooted and will have to wait for roms.

At a bare minimum, if it is BS, he owes everyone beer.
Not to propogate this nonsense, but my PRL updated this morning to 60675 (was 60674 previously).
Just mentioning it.
Edit to add: apparently mine was a bit late, 60675 came out a few days ago it looks like.

Doubtful of new radios. Probably just bug fixes because of how fast they are pushing the update.

I don't think so...depends on the update file that htc released. Just do a file comparison from the last ota. I don't think much has changed. Hopefully they do a smaller update than a full ota.

True, but they havent rooted the first OTA yet lol, maybe HTC is surprising everyone with an unlocked bootloader with that update thats on the way......not
Unlocked bootloader.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Maybe they'll realize too that they forgot to push out approximately the other 75% of gb on the 6/3 ota....wishfull thinking maybe.

I just got a message just a few momenta ago on my phone to download a update. I didn't take it but wanted to ask, it says it was an update for 2.3 gingerbread and said it was for 4.22.651.1
I'm puzzled because my phone says I'm running 4.22.651.2 and thought I was screwed out of being able to root.
Can any one help me understand this, and let me know if I'm capable of rooting cause I've done my homework and realized that I'm just S.O.L. for now
Or am I?

yeah, you are updated. uncheck the "check for updates" in the settings. If you take it, you will lose root.
I never take any updates ever. Updates are plots to make you hate your phone ie NO ROOT

I was rooted and accepted the ota... And I'm still rooted. Just flash recovery and then superuser and you'll be set.

I've never accept an OTA, but want to. I unrooted to go to Sprint, the phone is being swapped, but would rather have Gingerbread until then. When I check for updates it finds none even though it has 2.2 on it now. Any idea why?

The reason I ask is WHEN they finally find a way to root 2.3.3 I don't want to be kicking myself in the butt for taking the OTA. I don't know if the update has anything that would make it harder for me in the future.
Any thoughts?

No, all they did basically was update the kernel. If you don't take it, your battery is gonna be draining way too fast. There is nothing in 4.24 that isn't in 4.22 as far as being able to root it goes.
Plus if you don't take it you won't be able to use netflix either... I dunno if you use such things lol.
Thanks the info! I'm gonna go download it right now. You've been a great help.

I just got this 2.76.651.5 update OTA and so far it seems to have fixed the Sense UI reloading issue from the last OTA update. Here to hoping it's finally fixed.
Will there be any issues when this comes to achieving root? The last ota i got totally screwed me. Can anyone confirm whether or not this will inpead root ability?

I guess it depends on what all was changed, but i have always "thought" any ota closed a exploit, but this one hasnt been found by any dev for them to need to close it, so thats up in the air

I screwed myself by accepting the last OTA update. I'm certainly not accepting this one until know for sure it won't screw me further.
I'm personally not going to take that update atm. Still not happy with my current phone situation anyway... Had an Epic 4G but my fiancee wanted to upgrade from her dated Samsung Moment. So i looked around on Craigs and bought a Shift 4G. She didn't want the shift though, because she got so attached to her game-gripper on the Moment. So I gave her my Epic and took the Shift. Too bad it already had 2.3.3 on it =/
I'm just waiting on a new root exploit and I'm afraid to update anything on this sucker until then lol
I would never accept any OTA update. If root is ever discovered again and it requires the update you can always get it...can't really go back once you have it. On the other hand development for this phone is really slow and I believe root will only be found if it happens to be the same exploit as the newer phones so you may be without it for quite awhile and if the sms/mms issue affects you then you may want to take it. I know it is tempting but think about how it feels not having root just because you wanted the newest update.

So for anyone taking this ota, we need a favor before you flash it, atleast hook up to your pc find the update and throw it on dropbox, multiupload, megaupload, mediafire, somewhere so a dev can get their hands on it

2 soups :
un root and save you root with OTA keeper , and then update to 2.3.6 with the OTA
or
learn to live with it until ics appear at scene
good luck
