Hey All,
OK, this is driving me nuts, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a swarm of Project Gutenberg books. After searching around that interweb dealio, I have Cool Reader, Kindle for Android, and something else on the Fire, but none of them will find or display any type of book (DRM or no). All of which can read .mobi files.
The books are loaded in THREE different places on the Fire: a folder called Books, a folder called Documents, AND in the actual Kindle folder. None of the programs find them.
Moreover, when I have the Fire in USB mode and side loaded the books to those places, I can see them plain as day. But Titanium Backup can't find them, Script Manager can't find them, and ROM Toolbox can't find them, let alone any of the ereaders.
Any thoughts? This is making me nuts, heh.
Thank you!
This is the page I got when I Googled, "how to side load books on kindle fire"...
http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39...books-show-up-under-books-on-the-kindle-fire/
The directory that you'll put your mobi books is Android\data\com.amazon.kindle\files. I have to reboot my Kindle after copying files there before they'll show up in the Kindle app.
Tried that.
Thanks for the heads up. I could SWEAR I did that 5 times. I'll check that particular site later and see if there's something I missed or whatnot.
So irritating. And thank you!
EDIT: No dice. Rebooted, everything, none of the readers find anything.
I'm stumped.
[SOLVED]
OK, fixed. After about the fifth reboot for other things, they finally showed up. Criminy.
Either way, it seems it just needed to be rebooted a few times. Never found out why. Scaplet had the location correct.

All of a sudden, my BN library is gone. It was there earlier today. Right after I downloaded some more books, my entire library disappeared. My sd card read fine. All of those books are there. It's just the BN ones I have downloaded. My NC is rooted.
Please, please, please...can anyone help me?
This is really odd...did you try logging into your account online to see if all your books and things are still there? If they are, it probably shouldn't be too hard to fix...go to your library on your nook and hit the sync button and see if it comes back.
I know...it's so weird. All my shelves and mags are gone, too. I checked online. They are all there. I have tried sync, but it won't do anything. It does not reload them. I am so stumped and upset.
Please help!!!
Something else I noticed with the missing library
I had a couple of books on the home screen. I can open those. That tells me that they are somewhere on the NC or it wouldn't open. At least, I would think so. Am I wrong? I know I didn't move anything.
When I got the new downloads this afternoon, I had to stop the download do to work, so they never completed. It won't sync. I think it's because it sees the files somewhere, but I have no idea where. I went into Astro library. I can only see the 2 guide books that come with it.
I hooked my NC to my PC. I can see the BN downloads there. Even weirder.
I am a teacher. I teach an AP English class. Of course, my copies were on this library and now I can't access them.
Can anyone help me with this?
please help?
Newest development. I went to download the new freebie of the week and it worked. It showed up in my library like it is i suppose to. Is there a way to move files? Where do I move them to? Can I temporarily move them and put them back and they show up? I can see the others when I plug the NC into my PC. If I take them out, reboot, put them back there, will that work?
*banging head on wall*
help?
I could really use the help please
tried something else - didn't work
I went and deleted all downloads from BN (after I backed them up on my computer) and rebooted. I thought that if they weren't there, I could re-sync and download again. Nope. That didn't work. I could only redownload the one from this morning.
That would lead me to believe that there is some command screwed up.
I am now out of my element. I can see the downloads when I go into Astro. I just can't read them in my library.
Help...I am desperate.
Anyone?

This really doesn't make much sense to me...my only guess would be to try moving the files around from your internal memory to your sd card or something and see if you can get them to show up. Your files are there but your library app seems messed up...I'm not sure what to do about that man. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help you out.
I did a factory reset. I have my library back now, but I can't root it. I may just leave it. I was playing too much and not reading the material I needed to anyway. I just wish someone could have helped me, but it's ok. As much as I wanted it rooted again, apparently it won't let me now. I have been trying for 3 hours. *sigh*
Same.
All of a sudden a bit earlier this morning, all my books disappeared. It has happened before and I found that the best way to fix it is to reboot it. .
Same thing happened to me. It's a brand new device. I looked online and they're all there, but there's no way to redownload them to my nook. Will be calling nook support tomorrow.
Hey! I downloaded a free .epub book onto my desktop and i want to read it on my GT but idk how.
I downloaded the nook app and it uses epubs for its books so i tried putting my book into the appropriate nook folder but when inside the nook app it does not show up.
i also tried navigating to it using various file management apps(astro, es, ect.) but It simply asked what it should open it with but nothing i can use is listed.
does anyone know of an app or a way i can get this epub opened on my tab.
i feel like this should be easy but i am having trouble
thanks guys!
* ** I downloaded Aldiko and it works fine. I like the page flip google books and the nook apps offer but aldiko is letting me open my downloaded .epub
still open to other ideas.
thanks guys
epubs can be imported by the eBook app if you have Touchwiz. It should be in the menu in the top right corner if I remember correctly.
I have been using the nook app fine with epubs. I find it's a lot smoother a bit better than the stock ebook reader. It did take a while for my books to show up, though. Not sure if I restarted it to see if it would show up after that. In the nook app, try switching from "My files" in the sorting options to something like "All items", clicking the refresh button on the right, then go back into "My files".
sweet. i moved the book from "content" into "my documents" inside the nook folder and got it to show up under 'my files' in the app.
thanks for the advice.
i am about to read "a game of thrones"
i saw the author visited google

and thought if google is going to give him a special shirt
it might be worth reading.
Get aldiko from the market. It is by far the best ebook reader on android.
aldiko is , in my opinion, the best EPUB reader
out there, so try it and it comes free
I use Calibre to convert books to mobi. If you want to put them in the clowd then you want to change the extension to .doc or something. Once it is on your Kindle machine change the extension back to mobi.
Here is an article on how to trick the Kindle into letting you read it on their reader.
macworld search macs_kindle_fire_and_managing_files (too young to post links)
Another thing I have heard but not tried is that if you log off your kindle and someone else signs in then you get their books. Not something I would do myself because I demonstrate my dissatisfaction with pricing by not buying but not by violating copyright laws. However, i don't blame anyone else for doing it.
cheers
Thank you
Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't heard Calibre before today. Very cool
Or you can just send the.mobi file to [email protected]
They then show under docs tab and read just fine

Or perhaps plug in the usb cable, go to the drive letter, books folder and drag something over...

Interesting that the worked for you. When I tried it I was blocked from downloading it to my device. Maybe I will try it again.

you were right, it worked. The first time i sent it I accidentally sent my epub version of the book instead of mobi. [embarrassed]
Any ideas how to get them out of the documents and into the books? Id like to have all my books in one place, the Books area, and my files in the documents folder...

A Little More searching and I found this. It works: seperis. dreamwidth. org/ 116360. html

If your non-Amazon-bought fic is currently only showing in Docs or half in Docs and half in Books and you have no idea why (except now you do!), easy solution. This will work for any mobi file.
If you use Calibre--and if you read ebooks, you probably should grab it anyway--this is how you sideload by USB and get it into Books.
1.) Delete all non-Amazon books from the Books folder.
2.) Load all those books into Calibre.
3.) Highlight all books and click on Convert Books.
4.) Go down to the blue arrow that says Mobi Output
5.) The last bit there that says Kindle Options. Below it is Personal Doc Tag. Clear whatever is in there completely. No text.
6.) Convert.
7.) Make sure your Kindle is still connected and choose 'Save only Mobi format to disk in a single directory'. This is because Kindle Fire right now does not do subdirectories. If you have a cover, let it go too.
8.)Disconnect your Kindle and look at Books. Your books are there. Your covers are there. Mine is squished, I do not know why. But! I will find out.
This is five minutes later and the cover is no longer squished. IDEK.
When Calibre adds book to your Books folder, you can go in and move the cover to the covers folder in there. Apparently, it may work either way but I'm remarkably anal about that sort of thing.

I've been using Calibre for a while to convert my books to mobi for use on Kindle's. you are right on that you have to
-go into calibre
-convert/reconvert to .mobi
-click on the MOBI Output
-clear out the "Personal Doc Tag", mine had [PDOC] in it
-put it in the Books folder on the Kindle fire it worked great!
I'm really bummed out that you can't put your books in subfolders under the books directory. Regular kindle has been able to do this for years! This is really messy when you have dozens or hundreds of books.
However, maybe I'm making too much of this because I don't see myself ever using this to read books. I have a regular kindle for that, and I just like the eInk better.
Nice, but on some ebooks the formatting is off and some images don't load correctly any idea why?
I used this site a couple times, worked great.
http://www.convertfiles.com/convert/ebook/EPUB-to-MOBI.html
I just plug the kindle to my pc and put them in the book folder. Subfolders would be pretty nice.
I can't get books to show up, in documents or otherwise. When I go to the store, I can find them in "home", it says they are on the device, but offline, nothing is there. I have tried Calibre, and still nothing. I have tried unregistering, and re registering, still nothing.
I found I have to put my books in the sdcard/kindle folder. And only put the .mobi file in there.

Yes i'm new but been a lurker for awhile
Anyway, the developers and posters are so amazing in what they do here I thought that I would ask a question about Calibre if thats ok....if its in the wrong area or has been asked already I sincerely apologize. My question is that I have quite a few books (1000+) that I have gathered through out the years and I have put them all on my Fire using Calibre, unfortunately I am very anal and would like all of them to show up under books but as of now only a little show in books and the majority of them show up in Docs....any easy way to fix this in Calibre? If anyone takes the time to help me I would greatly appreciate it, thank you very much...
Anyone hing not in mobi, Kindle puts in docs.

They are all Mobi formatted
if you download the kindle app for android, you can put the .mobi formatted books into the kindle folder it creates on your SD card and read them that way.

I don't have a solution for you, but I have been looking into this myself.
In the Stock Kindle Fire Book app the books that have been downloaded to your device show up in /sdcard/Books. For each book there is a .prc and a ,mbp file. Also, there is a file in /sdcard/Books/covers without an extension which corresponds to each Book.
I converted a book to .prc and put it in the Books folder but it, unsurprisingly, didn't show up in the books menu. I am going to continue to play around with it when I get a chance. Let me know if you get anywhere with it.

+1. I was over thinking the problem. I hadn't seen the above post til just now but it looks good. I converted a book I wrote in html formatted for kindle with Calibre into .mobi format, moved it to sdcard/Books and it shows up in the Stock Kindle Fire Books App. (I did have to reboot for it to show up)
i have looked in the internet now for hours, but haven't found anything. im looking for the folder where the new kindle app for win8 stores the downloaded books. i have found solutions for all the kindle fire and win7 programs, but it seems different in this new app.
its not in the app folder nor in the my documents folder. though the app uses the cloud function from amazon it is also downloading tho book somewhere on the pc, so they have to be somewhere. i was also wondering if its in a database, but im too much of a noob to figure that out.
all i want to do is get files in the app i bought elsewhere not through amazon.
please help me
I don't use that, but quite often programs don't have access to all folders so it ends up getting dumped in
C:\Users\username\appdata
have a good route around that lot, check local and roaming
thx for your reply.
i searched there and havent found anything
actually i found a folder in there but have no idea where the location of the book files are. in the normal app its in my books content or something like that, but i cant find any folder like that
I realize this is an old thread but I am also looking for where the kindle app stores the downloaded books. I have searched the WindowsApps folder in program files as well as the AppData folder in the user directories. In the app folder in program files I looked through the JS files to see if I could find where it stores them but with no luck. Any help is appreciated.
