Thinkpad Tablet Power Button Repair Service - Thinkpad Tablet General

Since I just had to repair my power button, I'm confident that if anyone would like to send me their tablet for repair and retain root, I can do it for a small fee. Probably $25 + shipping.
I would repair the button, reinforce it, and reinforce the volume buttons (since they are mounted the same and will probably go next).
PM me if you would like more details.

[hack] broken power button "fix" - remap genius

UPDATE: This remapping allows the Genius button to "act" like the power on button while your phone is on. Having trouble getting it to actually turn the phone on. Any thoughts?
Dead or dying power button on you MT4G? Mine was dying suddenly and i didn't want the hassle and risk a warranty exchange and get a phone with a bad eMMC chip or screen. Also didn't want to pay $100 to get the power button replaced.
Using the guide found below, I just remapped my Genius/search button in hopes it will become a power button (UPDATE: as of right now, it can only act to shut off the screen and to power down the phone--powering on the phone via the remapped button doesn't work yet.)

The only difference: by key 183, replace FUNC_4 with POWER (all caps).
like when you press the genius button, it turns the actual phone on/off...or just the screen on/off? if it turns the phone itself on/off, thats pretty cool as my power button was getting a bit unresponsive also. you could also use the trackpad to wake up the device(not sure if all roms have this feature tho). but either way Ive never thought of this little mod, reps to you
I've tried remapping Genius and Camera (I know, potentially lose a factory reset option), NEITHER of these will act to power on the phone. They'll power it down and shut the screen off, but they won't wake up an off phone.
Could it be that the power button is the only button capable of turning the phone on (based on hardware wiring and $hit?).
I've tried swapping Genius and Home buttons...they work perfectly EXCEPT for as a way to power the phone on.
I've also read that you can power up the phone by plugging it in and holding down the home button. That doesn't seem to work for me.
There must be some other code that would make this work...
Thank you for this. With the TPU case holding the power button to power off the phone is a little strange. Cant tell if im pressing the button too hard or not. I do not want to press it harder than I need to cause I know how fragile they can be. Now I dont have to worry about it!
Getting a replacement
The remapping POWER is surely helpful to some...and prevents wear on the pitiful power button.
But with no clear, definitive way to turn my phone on, should the power button completely die (which seems like it will this weekend...it's worse each time), I'd be f*cked.
I did the web customer chat with T-Mobile to get a replacement. They offered me a Samsung Galaxy S. I declined that, saying I want a MT4G or better. They responded that the MT4G is out of stock and they don't know when, if ever, if will be available. This waste of time was about an hour.
So I CALLED customer service, explained the situation, the rep looked in their systems and talked with a manager and said they have *limited* stock of MT4G. My guess is that when something is *limited* they can't give it out as an exchange. Anyhow, this rep put in the order, making sure they had the MT4G in stock, and wondered why the web chat people said they were on back order. This CS experience took about 15 minutes.
Should have a replacement MT4G next week--hopefully good screen, good chip and good power button.
This is only my second exchange.
ANY changes to the power button behavior in the ROM are in effect only when the ROM is up and running.
You can't do ANYTHING to make the phone turn on using another button when it's off, without reworking the HW.

[Q] My DVP always set volume down to 0, even if I try to push the volume up

So, the other day my DVP felt into water, and I took it out quickly from there, and everything worked fine, except the volume down button, which didn't work. On the following day, the volume down button worked sometimes, but very often it still played the same as the day before: Set the volume down to 0, and when I want to set it up, slowly set itself to 0 again. Now, after 3 days, the volume down button doesn't work.
Is there a way to software or hard reset my phone?
You can reset your phone, but I don't think that's going to help. It probably needs repair.
You can reset going to settings > about > reset your phone.
You can also read the thread "How to unbrick a Dell Venue Pro" and flash the stock ROM again.
In the hidden EM (Engineering Mobile) app, there is a hardware key test. You can use this to confirm what seems obvious to me... the hardware cannot register the key presses of the volume rocker any longer, so no software reset will be effective.
-Enter the EM app by dialing ##634#
-Double tap the area below MMS settings, slide the keyboard up, and type "qwertyuiop"
-Tap the selection under MMI - English.
Yep, thanks, hardware problem, although it's really weird, that sometimes the button works, sometimes doesn't.
How much the repair would cost?
Assuming you live in the united states, I would ebay the broken one for parts. Even DVPs with broken digitizers or screens go for about $80. The going rate for a newish 8GB one seems to be about $130-140. I doubt you'd find a technician to perform the repair for you under that $50-60 price differential. Remember that you can perform your own SD card upgrades, so only get the 8GB model and upgrade the SD card yourself if you want additional storage.
You could also order one with a broken digitizer and simply swap digitizers. Just a suggestion! I'm sure you'll have your own ideas. In my mind, though, having a technician repair the phone is out of the question.
Here's a disassembly guide if you want to try and perform the repair yourself.

Mine does that from time to time. Firmly press vol up and down for a few seconds and then you should be fine.

power button broken, how to start phone if powered off

My phone's power button broken totally and I cant change it for now (after exams )
if the phone powered off how can i turn it on again? and how much a new power button costs?
with a usb jig you can put the phone into download mode without power button
from there you can cancel connection and restart the phone with the volume down button
Cant tell you how much something will cost - it will vary from country to country and town to town
google is your friend for that one for looking up your local repair shop and then calling them

Power button is broken, now what?

The power button on my tablet is broken. I was having problems with the tablet, while fixing one thing, I managed to screw up the power button..the metal disc covering where the contact is, fell off. I was able to use a pair of metal tweezers to get the screen to turn on, but then the tablet died and to get it started, obviously you have to be able to hold down on the button to get it to power on, and nothing seems to be working. I guess the tweezer only cause a short jolt to make the screen come on. I emailed Samsung about getting a replacement or something, but they won't answer now that I said I don't want to ship the tablet to Samsung. What options do I have other than taking it to a repair shop?

power button not working

so recently i dropped my phone and my power button stopped working... when i press it it feels like its already pressed... i think it may be stuck... anyway if you managed to understand may i please have some help?
Not having taken this phone apart myself I can't be 100% but it sounds like the drop made the power button skip off the part it pushes on and that part is now slightly to the side of the power button. In order of safety your options seem to be:
Return it to Samsung for repair,
Take it to a third party repair shop to fix,
Use a YouTube video on how to disassemble the phone and some very small screwdrivers to take it apart and try to reseat the button yourself (hoping it isn't the external button itself that's damaged while you do so) and definitely voiding any warranty you may have.
