My take is, it is definitely getting 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 but no time as to when, and 4.0 is possible but no official word yet.

Those mother ****ers. Instead of ICS in April, they are gonna give us 2.3.4 or 2.3.6
Could you not see that happening?
I just got off from live chat with verizon and the rep told me that she does not know if it will get an ics update but it will more then likely. I can about guarantee you none of these reps know anything about any of this they just have a list to of catch phrases to say for each phone to keep the customers content until there contract is up, or they get the one year upgrade.
Just got off from another chat with a different agent and she said there is no way for them to confirm any kind of update for the device. I have screenshots if you want proof.
Typical Verizon run around. I don't think they have a damn clue.
I doubt they do the rep tired to sell me the galaxy nexus, she was going on and on about it already having ics on it and i should get that phone if i wanted ics. I told her that if verizon doesnt update the play there isnt a chance i would upgrade my device i would switch networks.

If I get my own line AT&T here I come. Verizon is going to lose a lot of customers.

Verizon takes forever to get updates out. We'll probably see 2.3.4 when 4.0 is out.

Until another network has equal voice quality, and voice/data coverage, they won't loose customers.
There will be an intermediary release before the VZW Xperia Play receives ICS, but it will receive ICS
Just curious but how do you know this? Not slamming you.. just that we have all heard VZ talking out their ass about our R800x...

I'm not quite sure why they're saying "we're not sharing any details". That's kind of lame, but if they're planning on getting it out to us, thank them!

this is crazy! wonder how long until a solid build of 2.2 will be cooked. Probably before launch day I presume, I won't even run the stock rom for more than a few hours lol
I can't wait for 2.2!
Awesome news!
This is Super Special Awesome news
That is great news and the guy doesn't want to say yet because Sprint/HTC will do an OTA update to block the ability to root it on June 4th.

it happens with iphone all the time....
and has happened in other electronics...
The new Official 2.1 for the Hero, that was released recently, has relocked the Hero.. and no one has been able to find a way to root it...yet. So all that have tried to use the Official update are stuck locked up.
Yes You can block and OTA update. Just Dont select that option in your menu!
Have people every considered that HTC might actually want the phone to be able to be rooted?
While there is the argument that Sprint will lose out on the tethering cash that (very few) people of technical ability might pay... they more than make up for it having a hot phone that every geek wants to get and customize. I will only buy a phone that can be rooted and customized from here on out...and I think HTC and Sprint know that.
Crazy idea?
tooo goodddddddddddd i am already using EVO ITS simpleeee amazing i use to have iPhone
EVO isssss sooooo much betterr
The details of getting root are not being released ON PURPOSE. They don't want Sprint/HTC find out how to patch the hole before the phone is released. Sprint/HTC will try to patch it before it's officially released. Then when everyone has it in their hands, then the instructions can be given out.

That make sense, but anyways, does it have to be rooted, i mean, so far the device seems to be awesome. I think the EVO will be rooted sooner or later, let's use it as is for a wile so when finally we can root it, will be like we have a new device, again!
I know most people are probably anxious to use the Wifi Hotspot feature, w/o paying the extra $30 to Sprint.. So rooting it would be 1st step to get this without paying extra.

I would love to see this lawsuit go somewhere, but the only one that will benefit is lawyers. Phone makers just wont announce any updates until they are ready to be released fearful of lawsuits.

The i9000 does. And the canadians.
Its just the US.
And I think samsung purposely told tmo to not release the update because it would impeed sales of the vibrant 4g, which would definitely be against the law since all galaxy s phones were launched with the specific statement of "will be upgraded to android 2.2"

So since this tweet is from samsung canada, will the update only be available to candian carriers? And is the hardware same on tmoile us and canada? And will we get stable gps even if we dont get the update in us? I was just full of questions when i saw this. What do u think guys?
Im not sure if the Canada updates apply to us tho, if those are really for the US carriers then that would be great, tho we already have semi working/stable gps on several gingerbread roms including CM7, really all i would care about is the source drops, once we get source we can make gps work better than it ever will with stock gps. Not to mention improvements on existing gingerbread roms, and the potential for ICS support from the CM team when that drops.
The Canadian Vibrant is not the same device as the US version thus the ROM would be incompatible, but maybe this is a step towards it finally coming to US markets. We will see.

You guys should have gotten the ipad 2, then.
BTW, this just in, the release next week has been delayed.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/241380/ice_cream_sandwich_launch_delayed.html
People's reaction to ICS has opened up my mind about apple users versus google users. I've been asking every iphone and ipad user I see (work, train, train station, shop, wherever) whether they are excited about the iOS 5 release. I've been asking for a week now. Dozens of people. Not a single one said yes. Every one of them said they're fine with the current version.
On the other hand, android (honeycomb users) are threatening to ditch android if they don't get the ICS NOW. In fact, even before honeycomb was released I already saw people wanting ICS.
This tells me we're not such a good bunch of gadget users after all.
Screw you guys. I'm gonna make my way to the apple world to avoid bitter people who are demanding to have the latest and greatest just a couple months after the last latest and greatest update.

I think so. I signed up that night of the day all the sites first reported about this uber secret "project" and never received any message or contact of any kind about it. Kudos to Motorola for having this coincide with them moving their feedback/support forums to a new site, further confusing users. SMH...
Anyone else think Motorola only decided to release this update today because they were feeling some pressure after ASUS not only announced today as the day thy were updating their Transformer Prime but made good on their word? In other words, I think they Motorola would have kept us on ice (no pun intended) if it weren't for ASUS' updates today.

The test is private, it won't roll out to everyone. We had to give our serial numbers and such I'm guessing so we could be put in a pool of Xooms to get the test update.
