The I9100 V4 Beta from China
As you are aware, Galnet MIUI Scotland, are waiting on V4 to become more stable before we started to release them. Well now might just be the time! We have recently been giving access to the Internal V4 I9100 build, and wow, is all we can say!
Firstly we can say straight away, there is no Cyanogenmod coding to be found, this includes the Kernel, everything is on top of the Samsung Framework, which means that everything works out the box!
From playing around with it for the last hour, I’ve already seen the potential for further development, and this allows for more than just a few additional tweaks, this allows for Samsung applications to be added should the user base demand it.
There is English and Chinese translations already included, only a few minor translations are required, meaning it’s far easier to maintain. The default camera is that from Samsung, and there is also Samsung Media Scanner included, which means SD reading is super fast!
Sywpe is included as a keyboard option, and from what I’ve seen and messed around with, the Music player is so sweet, MIUI have really gone to town!
The main advantage of MIUI over CM now seems to be the fact that once Samsung patches firmware issues, we can only assume that MIUI will patch it instantly, this mean no more waiting for things to be fixed, or hours of work from me trying to find where the fault is…!
Oh and one thing I really like, is MIUI have removed all the Samsung branding, meaning it truly feels like ICS with the MIUI feel we have all come to love, this truly is a gorgeous rom, and I can only praise the Chinese Developers for what they have achieved.
I will end this post by providing some screenshots, I hope you like them:

This is fantastic news! MIUI has really grown, basing it on Samsung's Framework seems like a smart plan. Really looking forward to taking my phone to the next level
and what about the browser? will have hardware acceleration?
love miui but in gb version the camera and browser made come back to stock/kitchen roms
Lets see the beta released

Yes I think it will be hardware accelerated since they say it will based on samsung framework. Look at the camera it is the same as Samsung one.

I bet it will be "something" like that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499435
Nothing from cyanogenmod = no custom kernel (unless they make one which is compatible with samsung rom) = no overclock, no cifs, no tweks, no additional governors, etc. etc.
I'd prefer the old way.

That's not correct!
As soon as Samsung releases their Kernel Source there will be Custom Kernels just like there are Coustom Kernels for Samsung based Gingerbread Roms.

Well.... There are many custom Kernel with overclock, cifs, tweaks, additional governors for Samsung gingerbread firmwares. The same will happen once the new kernel source is out.
Great news... Next week the official ICS is suppossed to be released also...
I would like to see a MIUI rom that is buggy free that bassed on ICS ! I think I'm going to be the first who will try it

post a link to this thread in your rom page, i'm sure many will give attention then
That's not really fair. :L I'm British and I have a Galaxy 3 and so do many other people in non-third world countrys.
Anyway, if we don't port cyanogen mod, nobody will do it. We'd actually have to port it ourselves like all other phone comunitys did. There is a page somewhere on how to port it, where to start and all that stuff. A port request there is worth nothing.
clarkkov said:
I meant generally, not exclusively. You probably have the respin of SG3 aka GT-i5801 Apollo for Orange network. GB is not the "Wild West" I was referring to (although it's not "The third world" either). But this is generally the case, and this is most probably the reason there is no CM for SG3.
I have a really good idea> Why don't we join our forces and make a custom rom. All brilliant engineering is wasted on customizing those stock ROMs, and there are too many just for one phone. Why don't Kyrillos, Apocalypse, Greenmod and Lestatious merge into one developing team, why don't we get Gingerbread source and compile it for Galaxy 3? Merge all those themes together, and make a professionally sound, clean and solid ROM?
I'm avoiding these so called custom ROMs just because they are overbloated with unreliable tweaks, sure they work faster, but I need my phone to be reliable and functional, not to post Quadrant benchmarks all over the net.
Just my 2 cents...

Working togheter is not as easy as you think!
Armv team has done a rom after a month that is far more unstable than a lestatious, an indroid or a kyrillos, that are put togheter by one single individual! Probably with time things can be done, but mixing up individuals is not the way to go...
If our SGS3 developers wanna team up by themselves they will, as they've done already.
One more thing, 90% of non-beta ROM releases are very stable and reccomended for daily use, with near-to-zero bugs (remember samsung firmwares are full of bugs as well!!), not just for "post quadrant scores" as you're telling.

mr IT "manager"..a nokia phone might be ur appropriate choice ...Coz you are missing out on the android experience by not trying out custom romsss.......
clarkkov said:
Why the quotes? That is actually my title...oh I get it, you are being sarcastic, good for you
I have tried custom ROM on my colleague's SG3, he is running Kyrillos 3.0 I believe. While I'm still on my first battery charge (80%), he already had to recharge his battery and is now on about 60% and he has small FC issues with some apps that run flawlessly on my hone.
No need for hostility, I'm just debating and using valid arguments in this debate, I thought that's what the forums are for. If I'm wrong or misinformed, I would like to hear it. I appreciate the hard work of Android developers and naturally, want even more. Custom ROMs are great, but lack that final touch I'm talking about.
BTW, SGS got it's official Gingerbread update in Europe! Maybe someone knows how to port it to SG3?

The reason for the battery problems may be because of extra tasks he's running.. it's not just the ROM's fault. On my Kyrillos 3.0 I started to have battery problems, but I downloaded the Battery Calibration app which fixed any battery burning issues
I would say the complete opposite to you when you say that they "lack the final touch". A stock firmware is just so... basic? Custom ROM's have everything the stock firmware's have, and more. I have had NO problems at all with Kyrillos 3.0, that's why I havn't bothered to update to any later versions. Everything runs perfectly for this amazingly cheap phone.
I haven't tried the XWJPD stock but, as i'm reading on this very forum there are threads names "Multiple problems after official froyo update", nothing is perfect in this world ;-) nonetheless Samsung devs are!
Scouting the dev forum you will find a TON of fixes that have no drawbacks and are just PROs against the stock ROM (examples: sd card speed fix, audio fix published today, JIT enabled).
Yeah, surely, those "fixes" are not needed to USE the phone, but if you don't wanna optimize your phone why are you on XDA at all?
Anyway i'm not meant to be attacking you, it's just.. i don't understand your point of view; regarding ROMS, with time they will become better and better, so it's just about patience, Samsung has hundred of developers and imho their work is just above decent!

Not all custom roms are unstable. You can check which ones have overbloated tweaks and which dont and choose for yourself. I dont know about kyrillos 3.0, but indroid 3.0 no lagfix version worked great for me, and with apocalypse 1.3beta I haven't had stability problems (some bugs, but nothing major and no stability bugs) on a proper flash

You should really understand a bit more of what each team has done and is doing and how they go about it. Yeah, the individuals did great stuff, but you have to realize that they also combined a lot of other peoples work into their roms and had help (not trying to reduce earned props from the rom makers). Just take a look at their credits/changelog pages.

//Update 3//
Not directly on the SamMobiles Leak but some good news on CM9 and the other leak Codeworkx got his hands on
Now with much more IceCream on my Sandwich!
Let me have a look at my visionarys orb.
I can see…
- Kernel 3.0.9
- New RIL (doesn’t work with old modem firmwares)
- TouchWiz (i still hate it, doesn’t feel good, stock aosp ics feels much better)
- Opencore is finally gone
- looks cleaner under the hood
- still old alsa, not the new tinyalsa
- users won’t be impressed
Now let me watch on my device…
- aosp framework
- graphics seems to work good
- it has sound, but cannot test mic beacuse of ril problems
- ril isn’t working very good, crashing all the time. might need to add a new samsung ril class like in the past
- gps seems to work
- hwcomposer is running
- camera is running
- bluetooth works
- wifi works
- sensors aren’t working yet, but should be no problem
- usb sharing works
Ok, too much said already.
No, sammobile didn’t help. Dunno where it came from, but it is here.
Without my lawyer you’ll not get anything out of me now!
Having Kernel sources would make it much easier, but that’s probably far away.
Stay tuned! Maybe we get ril fixed in a few days then we got something really amazing and clean for you.

Status Update
Today we could spend some more time to fiddle with this stuff.
RIL is very unstable, even on the leak.
It’s not usable. Probably have to wait for a newer leak.
My o2 card doesn’t work, my vodafone card works.
Might be NITZ related.
Some little bugs here and there like unamplifed haptic feedback, broken sdcards and some other little things.
Sound is working, Mic is working , Camera is working, Wifi is working, Bluetooth is working, HWComposer, TVOutService is up…
To fix every little bug we need kernel sources for sure. So probably in january 2012.
If we can get RIL stable, we might release a aosp/cm9 build for you.
But don’t point at us if we don’t.

I think it should be smooth as long as they have Hardware Acceleration working + Touchwiz launcher would make it a tad bit smoother. Hopefully this version includes a microphone fix, so CM9 can release a beta of theirs.
i am very positive this will inclue a microphone "fix"
for Samsung it is not a fix because they have all the Lib and source - it´s just gonna work
so with that test build i am very positive Cyanogenmod team can fix the microphone within hours
Yeah I think we all wait not so much for the leak itself but for the fact that once the leak is released Team Hacksung can fix all the remaining bugs. Who knows? We might have the first actual CyanogenMod 9 fully functinal build out there.

We just need the drivers babyyy
Alot the firmwares leaked by sams firmwares are beta and all of them work with only small bugs so i'm hoping this will be the same.
Will we ever get a fully functional ICS build?
From what it looks like now, yes. The current ICS builds have had an amazing progress and what we need now is someone to backport the gingerbread kgsl drivers or compile an msm-3.0 kernel so we can get a fully functional hardware acceleration.
Obviously, the low internal memory or ROM memory is no problem since we can, using blackrose, repartition the whole internal memory.
What's your thought in all of this? What are you looking forward too? A Cyanogenmod ICS build? A MIUI ICS build? Or simply a vanilla ICS build with no elements of Cyanogenmod or MIUI? Please share your thoughts.
I would just like to thank all the wonderful developers here for doing such an awesome job at bringing us an ICS build - buggy or not, it's still a huge step forward.
I believe CM team will be the first with full functional ICS for N1 and i'm definitly looking forward to it. After that all the others will come up with their different Roms.
I think CM won't be the first, since CM will be way to busy for all the newer phones! Like the Galaxy S2 and the newer dual cores, those will probably get bigger priority..
Can't wait that the ROM works perfectly or almost perfectly!
I'm be super happy with a stock ICS build for the N1. It would extend the life of my phone for another year until LTE gets sorted out by my carrier.
Definitely stock ICS with few tweaks like custom shutdown/reboot menu, FM Radio app, builtin A2SD support, Wifi calling support etc.
Texasice's ICS is doing pretty well on my N1 right now..
It's already stable any ROM?
I'd like to try out a vanilla ICS rom first, then maybe I'll check out CM9.

Yeah, it's amazing what he's been able to do with it on such short notice, being a "college droput" as he said
Totally off topic, but I'd just like to know: Is it true that you pretty much need a college education to get a respectable job over there in the U.S? I mean, after nine years of elementary school and another three in high school (or whatever it's like over there), college is the last thing I'd ever want to go to.

So basically, you should go with texasice's ICS ROM and then samuaz. IIRC, texas said he would never incorporate CM9 into his ROM, so you're good to flash it.
I don't really know what I'll go with. I think it depends on the features and stability of the two. I like Cyanogenmod but maybe, just maybe, I'll stick with stock ICS and first get the hang of it.

Almost everything works fine - gapps, wifi, 3g, a2sd. Pretty amazing for an alpha release.
Most likely I would preffer an pretty much vanilla ICS build in the future.

I have already custom blackrose hboot, latest 4ext touch recovery ready for the video recording feature on texasice rom to be ready!
Have been using texasice's on my old N1 as well since he started developing it. His implementation is very good.
I just flashed texasice's ICS ROM p6. So far so good. When CM releases CM9, I will wait for others' feedback and then give it a try just to see the difference.
Am i the only one not even slightly interested in ICS? Everything about it seems to be a big step backwards from Gingerbread. My N1 with CM7 is absolutely spot-bollock perfect as it is, so i don't need a new device and i don't need a new OS!

Probably are the only one.
Those afraid of change are really in the wrong place browsing XDA.

You're kidding right? Change just for the sake of change is idiotic. I know the teens go for the whole 'Oh look a new shiny thing', but they are also notoriously unreliable, are known to have bad taste and couldn't have an objective thought if their lives depended on it.

You're not the only one, I'm actually quite happy with my N1 right now, its fast and stable, I don't need anything more atm. I will update it only if its clear to me that the latest versions are better
I am interested in quite a few things about ICS, the most important of which is not in any of the current ROMs:
New camera software
Better multitasking (cards)
Better and faster browser
Better notifications
And most importantly...HARDWARE ACCELERATION. This is the only thing missing from current ICS roms and the reason I have not flashed any of them.
The moment this gets stable, I am all over it...
But ICS is a HUGE upgrade because of this fact alone. Personally, I feel like the SGSII will be a better overall phone vs the GNex once it is on ICS. Other than touchwiz...

a2sd implemented by texasice is the best compared to all other implementation I have tried so far. Check out this post by texasice if you are interested.
I am using the "xdata" feature so I can finally see 2 GB internal space! Also I have not seen any slow down in speed while using "xdata".

Man now i wish i kept mine :-( Oh well, the HTC sensation hasn't let me down yet, but you never forget your first time..LOL love/miss my N1
After tried alot of roms out there (almost every rom), I'm sick of it. Back home and clean it up is the best idea. Why? Fully function and stable enough. Just back to stock 4.0.4. Feel that it is snappier than before. Clean up the junk file in system. Don't mod it, just make it simple and stock. Change a font to make it less boring. That it! Way faster than CM9.1. Sony didn't do a really bad job!
Edited: I change my mind now. Using CM10 again. Because I love pure Android and it's much smoother.
Tried too, look very fancy. went back to gb for less incompatibilties issue and more free ram after mass clearing stock bloatwares.
I'm with you, back to stock ICS, install only notification toggle and walkman, nothing else. The phone is stable like rock and fully working. I'm happy I went back to stock.
After all, most ROMs are just stock ROMs with modifications that a mildly experienced user can do himself. Android is all about personalisation and half the fun is doing it on your own –IMHO.
Only FXP is providing original development but Cyanogen is not really my taste, Sony firmwares are better looking –again, IMHO!

Yeah! I agreed with you. Most custom roms out there are base on stock. Maybe that's for less experience user or someone that is lazy to do it them self but CM is one of my favorite rom out there.
visual is secondary, especially with litte ram to play with, with ics, it will often than not hit below 90 and 170 the most.

Free RAM would be an issue only if you could literally take it out and play with it.
Android is filling up RAM in order to be snappier and more responsive. The fact that in some occasions it is not snappy, has little to do with the amount of free RAM and that is a very common misconception among users.

You guys tried jellybean?
In my opinion its mutch smoother than stock..
I supercharged and overclocked my phone and its running!!

I was impressed when I was on the stock ROM with it's speed but for me modding CM is far simpler and find it to be just as fast after tweaking it to my liking, plus it doesn't come with Carrier IQ.
Ive tried them all and the most stable with customizable features is miui v4 which I tweaked for more space/ram.. Everything works and its fast..

same here..i was so bored of trying every rom available..updating it..for many months i was on the stock ROM with few tweaks..i was happy with it. But tried jelly beans recently and i have stuck to it since then. Only changed the theme..was bored of CM default them
But i would still say stock rom is the best and stable rom..and with stock kernel it is even better
Try jellysandwich its faster than stock .587

That's a bonus then...

Ah, didn't know that.
Of course, as the name implies, it is the carrier who collects the information after all.
Anyway, I find people posting what they eat, where and who they are with on social media much more disturbing than anonymous data collected by Carrier IQ!
But let's get back on-topic now! Thank you!
Stockroms are cool, i miss in CM Timescape and the great Social features. But Stock GB (or moddet GB) is a way faster than ICS or JB. No load time by opening a email, in ICS or JB 2-3 sec wait time, in GB no waiting time
Not sure what people are doing with custom rom. Tweak for more ram? I found that most custom rom out there have less than 180 mb of free ram. For me stock rom no bloatware. 230 mb of free ram after restart. About 190 mb after using the phone.
If only there's a way to dual boot to choose GB or ICS.
My GB setup in signature. For me it's awesome.
And I deleted 80 system apps, RAM is always around 200mb free .
MIUI V4 stock based is better imho. If you don't mind a bit slower performance that is.

According to their website, they only support 3 devices right now. You can port it yourself with this if you'd like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008
I'm not sure if the dev has plans to support more devices or not.

See their website, they have the Gapps download linked on there as well. Just flashed the ROM & Gapps, everything seems pretty nice. It is quite fast, but I'd like to give it some time before anything. I like the weather widget (my favorite looking one, same as on Captivating) as well as the launcher. It's a pretty smooth UI too, in case choppiness bugs anyone.
Any easy way to change the DPI?
RE: gamerzrom 4.2.2
Thanks for a new ROM to try! This was also on my to-port list. But I've been getting lazy.

Worked like a charm, thank you! Changed DPI to 182, still running great. (Used to SlimRom DPI)
Thank you dear friends. But I'm really shocked because of low interest from captivate community.

It's not so much low interest, it's more of the following:
- New thread, been less than 24hrs and a lot of us work .
- As you can see, there are quite a few ROMs for our cappy's, and some people don't want to try out newer ones until they read reports from other users
Give it a few days, I know there's a few other people who will try it out besides me . So far, no complaints. I would love for you to include a DPI manager with the ROM, but using textdroider DPI from the market works just fine.
Oh and inverted gapps would be cool, as well as a "dark" theme much like SlimBean.
But overall experience so far: 10/10, running flawlessly right now at 182 DPI as the only change.
RE: gamerzrom 4.2.2
If anyone is wondering, the Gapps must be flashed (yes I know it says in OP ) to introduce full functionality to the capacitive buttons and lock screen. I run without the Google apps when I can, mostly using this phone as media/game/alarm-clock device. My first boot and subsequent reboots without the Gapps package were buggy. Running fine since the Gapps flash. I used ROM Toolbox to change the DPI through build.prop. Will report back with more results soon as I can.
Super fast rom thank you so much...is there any way to increase loudspeaker volume? My cappy gives best sound on stock gb 2.3.5
2- is there a possibility to have pause and resume function in video recording like in stock gb 2.3.5?
Thanks again.
this is a good rom and one of the few which are lagless and delivers a good experience :good:
all the games work fine and 720p videos also play without lag.
so overall it is a good rom.
keep up the good work :good::good::good:
