Random reboots on Stock ICS 9020t - Nexus S General

I'm having random reboots on my nexus s running stock ICS.
I'm getting at least once a day but sometimes 3-4.
This happens when the phone is idle and never during calls or when I use it.
Are you also having this problem? Do you think it might be a hardware problem?

That's odd. Never got any reboots on mine. Try reflashing ICS if your phone is rooted. If it isn't. Try a full wipe, including the SD card. Hope this is of some help.

I've already done a full wipe including the USB. Didn't solve the problem. I'm not rooted. Do you think I need to reflash the ICS?

It's possible it is one of the apps you have installed.

Root the dang thing, then flash AOKP ROM and Matr1x kernel, you won't get reboot.. I semipromise .. Really, AOKP is very stable.
Easy rooting guide at nexusshacks.com.

I am having the same problem prior to this after flashing stock ICS it reboot by itself...
After I rooted it. I did fullwipe and rebooted stock ICS it seems okay for the time being. Hopes this helps.

Hi!
I'm using i9023, and i have the same problem.
I tryd already CM9, Kangy, Stock 4.0.4, MIUI, and this dosn't solved my problem.
Random reboots 3-4 times a day.

Android 4.0.4 helped
Since I've updated to 4.0.4 I only saw one random reboot. It happened when my battery was almost empty.
I replaced with a new battery (original samsung) and I have not seen any reboots since

atrix non responsive after cm7

I was running cm7 since it was first released. I got a new phone so i decided to give my atrix to my younger brother. The problem is after i went through the process of putting the phone back to stock, there now seems to be dead zones on the phone. For example i cannot press the w,e,s, keys. Can anyone help me or tell me if i've done something wrong?
I'm not sure you did anything wrong specifically. Did you make sure the clear all the cache? How did you put stock back on it (IE. flashed stock via CWM, moto fastboot, etc)?.
Boot into recovery, wipe dalvik cache, system cache, reflash your firmware of choice, reboot.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Ive had numerous problems with cm7 for atrix but ive found that backup everything you need with titanium backup and then just reflash the rom and wipe the data and davlik cache and it should. But yh there are lots of issues with the cm7 rom for atrix but its still in beta so dont worry too much it will be ok when there are more updates

The CM7 beta does not have the issues that the OP described so please don't let him think that's the reason.
OP, re-flash your phone with a different ROM or with CM7 again and see if it still persists.

[SOLVED] Is it possible that I'm not wiping right?

Hi,
I have Kindle fire. I rooted and installed TWRP in linux. Since then I've been using CM7.
Now I've been trying some ICS roms, but they all have huge issues. For instance CM9 Kang Rom had freezes all the time. I have to restart it long pressing power after a freeze. And many people say they have no issue and it works perfect. Is it possible that I did something wrong?
Everytime before flashing, I do factory reset, wipe system. And after flashing I wipe cache /dalvik.
Would it be worth to try installing twrp again?
Or is there a syslog like thing in android where I can check what's going on before freezes?
Edit: Installing intersectraven's CM9 kernel solved my ICS issued. (For Energy CM9 Kang Rom)

Wipe them all before flashing... wiping them after flashing can remove important parts of the rom written to /data/... Wiping them before hand is needed to remove all the parts of the old rom that can cause problems in the new one
I do the same steps you do ( factory reset----flash rom---wipe cash and dalvik)
I thing you are spoiled of the cm7 roms. Cm 9 is a rom under development and the people ignore the problems in ICS because they like ICS and want to have it.
I use ICS (energys rom) as my daly driver and I love it. I know thera are a lot of issue but I like it more than cm7.
Are you getting skids? Sorry that was just too easy.
sorry, who do you mean, me?
My english is in development and I don´t know what "Are you getting skids" means.

Well, do you get frequent freezes? i get freeze in less than 10 min whenever i try to use energy. There are many people who say they use it stably. That's why i thought i had a problem.
I just do factory reset, install, reboot and it always works. I agree, wiping after might remove required components.

No CM9 Roms work for me

Hey all,
Well title pretty much says it all, whenever I try install any CM9 based roms they always freeze while booting.
CM7 roms install and work fine but I would prefer to install a CM9 rom.
Am I missing something?
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening?
I am wiping dalvik, cache and data.
Thanks
Try adding "Factory reset" to that list and flash this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563137
If it works fine, try another (prior wiping caches + factory reset...)

I actually have the same problem. This CM9 rom works, but its the only one that does. The others don't load for some reason. It almost always freezes in the bootanimation at some point. If it ever gets past the bootanimation it will freeze at "Verifiying apps"

Wipe dalvik, cache, factory reset
Then go to mounts, format everything there except for your SD card (this is from memory just doing it once on the KF so don't wipe anything else that might be important).
THEN instill the rom.

I have the same problem too, all the ics roms do not work except for the one stated in this thread previously and the Hellfire ics rom.
It gets stuck at the boot screen.. I have tried wiping everything including sdcard..
And also, my kindle hangs frequently when running 3d games and I have to hold the power button to force shutdown it..
Is it a problem with the kernel?
The notifications button at the bottom right corner is also very unresponsive, I have to press it several times to open the menu..

I second this. Redownload the file. This is only if you've formatted EVERYTHING as previously stated.
Just curious, what recovery are you guys using? If you're not on CWM I'd switch over and give it a go. Maybe you're getting improper wipes.
how long are you guys waiting till you say its freezing most roms while booting up for the first time the boot animation isnt long enough for the installation process and will stop but if you wait a few min it will boot right up... that first boot is when it builds its cache and davlik cache so it takes some time

Its not that I'm not waiting long enough for the boot animation or anything. For example it will load up some the first time and get all the way past the spinning circle on the CM9 boot animation and get stuck on the "verifying apps" screen. Other times that i try to boot it it will get stuck with just the little android and the circle around him, not even 2 full seconds into the boot animation.
The "Verifying apps" afaik should not be showing up on a fresh install. That only happens to me when I upgrade to a comparable rom I.e. one cm9 rom to another cm9 rom. Correct me if I'm wrong but what that sounds like is the os is choking on some left over apps.

All signs are pointing to a ****ty wipe. The recovery's fault, so long as you didn't forget to wipe everything under mounts.

Got rooted, installed custom recovery, lost root, now i'm confused...

So I used the Auto CF root and all went well. Next, I went back into recovery and installed the TWRP Recovery though odin. It installed fine. After that I noticed I no longer had root and I can't figure out how to get it back. Supersu was still installed, it just wouldn't work.
At this point, i've tried redoing the root process a couple of times and it says that it worked fine, but doesn't do the job. Anyone got any ideas on what to do?
If anyone's curious, I started on totally stock OTA MF9.
Thanks
Just flash one of the stock rooted mf9 ROMs in the development thread pic one with no data wipe so you don't have to set everything up again.

Thanks for the tip. Downloading the odexed version of this. Slow download so almost 2 hrs left.
[ROM][ZIP]Stock Rooted Deodexed/Odexed MF9 with SuperSU/Busybox 1.20.2
Hopefully it works. I tried wiping cache and dlvik cache and now when i turn the phone on it just keeps giving errors that this and that app can't open so the phone is essentially unusable. Didn't think wiping cache would do that.
Yeah sometimes things just go screwy. Have you tried fixing permissions? While you wait for a download you can wipe cache davlik and fix permissions its in the advanced menu of twrp. The odexed with no data wipe should fix you up I would recommend wiping cache davlik and system before you flash it. If it still gives errors you may have to wipe the data also and start fresh. You can also try TWRP version 5.0.2 if you aren't on it there is a flashable in the dev forum also. Some people have reported issues with the newer version. I think you will be fine flashing that stock odexed ROM though.

Out of curiosity, would there be any danger in installing a custom rom while my phone is in this state? Downloading Blu Kuban Rom and it's going to finish much earlier than the stock rom. I know I would lose all my apps and need to reinstall those.

Nope no danger at all. In fact I recommend blu Kuban. Its a nice ROM. Just do a full wipe of system data cache davlik and preload before flashing to avoid issues. All the custom ROMs have root built into them so you should be good to go.

I've tried doing a full wipe, wiping cache and delvick cache and even trying to install the stock rooted rom or the blu rom on top of itself and i still get the same thing. Any ideas? I finally got out of the boot logo. I looked around the forums and found someone with a similar problem. Seems the recovery wasn't deleting all the files for him so he deleted everything manually instead of just wiping. I did the same and installed triforce rom and it's booted now.
Just for future reference though, would you mind explaining or pointing me to where I can read about the battery pull trick?

Basically, quite a few people have recommended pulling the battery once frozen.
Even when you do a power off, you are NOT completely removing power from the system.
Disconnecting the power is the only way to accomplish this.

Rom flashing help

Hello people, I have a small problem while flashing 4.4 roms.
Every time, after wiping to factory , installing rom and Gapps, Phone app makes a force close every time, on every Rom. I don't know what can I do to remedy this problem, and so far, only dirty flashing works to a degree (pace rom make a force close on the time /alarm app).
Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks for the answers.
