[SOLVED] Is it possible that I'm not wiping right? - Kindle Fire General

Hi,
I have Kindle fire. I rooted and installed TWRP in linux. Since then I've been using CM7.
Now I've been trying some ICS roms, but they all have huge issues. For instance CM9 Kang Rom had freezes all the time. I have to restart it long pressing power after a freeze. And many people say they have no issue and it works perfect. Is it possible that I did something wrong?
Everytime before flashing, I do factory reset, wipe system. And after flashing I wipe cache /dalvik.
Would it be worth to try installing twrp again?
Or is there a syslog like thing in android where I can check what's going on before freezes?
Edit: Installing intersectraven's CM9 kernel solved my ICS issued. (For Energy CM9 Kang Rom)

Wipe them all before flashing... wiping them after flashing can remove important parts of the rom written to /data/... Wiping them before hand is needed to remove all the parts of the old rom that can cause problems in the new one

I do the same steps you do ( factory reset----flash rom---wipe cash and dalvik)
I thing you are spoiled of the cm7 roms. Cm 9 is a rom under development and the people ignore the problems in ICS because they like ICS and want to have it.
I use ICS (energys rom) as my daly driver and I love it. I know thera are a lot of issue but I like it more than cm7.

Are you getting skids? Sorry that was just too easy.

sorry, who do you mean, me?
My english is in development and I don´t know what "Are you getting skids" means.

Well, do you get frequent freezes? i get freeze in less than 10 min whenever i try to use energy. There are many people who say they use it stably. That's why i thought i had a problem.

I just do factory reset, install, reboot and it always works. I agree, wiping after might remove required components.

solved!
I tried installing Energy Rom once again, but this time after installing Energy, I flashed intersectraven's kernel. Since yesterday I did not have any freeze or other problem.

[Q] can't install nightlys

I recovered back to froyo from cm7 7.0.3 thinking I would give the gingerbread update a try. After seeing what bugs they had on gingerbread I went back fresh to cm7. I have cm7 7.0.3 on it no problem but when I try to put the newest nightly on it it does'nt do anything. It will download the nightly but when I tap it to install it say it will boot into recovery but dose'nt. I've tried it with 86,87 nightlys and it has done the same thing. Any help would be nice. Thanks.
Im guessing you are using ROM manager. If you are, dont. Just download the nightly zip from the thread on here for cm7, place on your sd card, reboot into recovery, nandroid, wipe cache and dalvik, and flash.

This. ROM manager, while convenient, is kind of a plague to us. This is because people learn to do all of their recovery based work through it and never learn how to work with the recovery (obvious by the fact that you haven't just booted into recovery and done it yourself, OP).
So do as this smart poster says.

I have done that in the past. It's just much easier to do it through rom manager. Used it several times before with no problems.

Well now you ARE having a problem. And it's really not that much easier. Again, download zip, reboot to recovery, nandroid, clear cache and dalvik, and flash. Literally takes maybe 10 seconds more than Rom manager.

atrix non responsive after cm7

I was running cm7 since it was first released. I got a new phone so i decided to give my atrix to my younger brother. The problem is after i went through the process of putting the phone back to stock, there now seems to be dead zones on the phone. For example i cannot press the w,e,s, keys. Can anyone help me or tell me if i've done something wrong?
I'm not sure you did anything wrong specifically. Did you make sure the clear all the cache? How did you put stock back on it (IE. flashed stock via CWM, moto fastboot, etc)?.
Boot into recovery, wipe dalvik cache, system cache, reflash your firmware of choice, reboot.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Ive had numerous problems with cm7 for atrix but ive found that backup everything you need with titanium backup and then just reflash the rom and wipe the data and davlik cache and it should. But yh there are lots of issues with the cm7 rom for atrix but its still in beta so dont worry too much it will be ok when there are more updates

The CM7 beta does not have the issues that the OP described so please don't let him think that's the reason.
OP, re-flash your phone with a different ROM or with CM7 again and see if it still persists.

Issue formatting data under clockwork mod

Folks,
I've been running the ICS Kang project build without any issues (2.3) for the past while. Last night the tablet locked up on me and I powered it off by holding down the on/off button. When I went to turn it back on it now permanently hangs during boot. I can still get into CWM but attempting to wipe either the D. Cache or data hangs. Anyone got any ideas?
Can you restore a backup?
If you can't do anything in CWM then you might have to Odin back to stock....
I can flash a new rom but there appears to be something wrong with the data partition - can't wipe it and tablet wont boot.
You don't happen to have a link to restoring tab via ODIN? I was just browsing for that...

No problem... It should go nice and smooth and once it boots back up check in settings for system updates..
Well, thanks! That did the trick! I am back to the stock Samsung firmware and have already reflashed clockwork. I really don't know what went wrong in the first place, but I suppose that's what you get for living on the 'alpha' edge...
Thanks again! (BTW I did click the 'thanks' button ;-) )
BTW - for anyone interested or suffering a similar problem, in the end this required a full reset - all data was lost which sucked for me as I had all my backups on the device too (don't bother calling me stupid, I've already done it)....
I'm guessing some bug in the ICS KANG alpha screwed the partitions up which nothing short of a full reset could fix...
Sweet! Glad you are back up and rockin'...
phew!
I had exactly the same problem yesterday, and I thought my tab was completely fubar until I came across this post.
I was running the "official unofficial" CM9 snapshot for p4wifi, and before that I ran AOPK build 27, I think. I did not perform a full wipe before going to CM9.
I change roms on my tab very often to try to find the best, so something must have gotten messed up, but it's somewhat odd since it worked in the morning, and then when I came to work it had totally b0rked up on me.
Anyway, this post was a life saver although I lost all my data (didn't keep a titanium backup or a CWM backup on another storage than the internal storage. shame on me).
So - thanks alot raqball!

Understandable... but unless the Dev. says no wipe needed, I would always suggest it, even when it's virtually the same ROM, thread, Dev., etc...
At least it wasn't too hard of a lesson.

CM7 and MIUI for Dell Streak 5

Since the original CM7 thread were abandoned(or derailed on purpose) by the OP, I just want these amazing ROMs to be exposed to more people.
They are both using the DSC Team kernel. I have to thank the developers of these ROMs, as they are amazing!!!!
Developer: HPa
Both ROMs have working English interface.
Since the OP is hesitating in posting more information, so I did a little more digging myself. It lands me on the board with everything Dell Streak related in Korean.
They even have DSC/longhorn Rom discussion going on...
Their board:
http://cafe.naver.com/dellboom.cafe...=22849218&search.menuid=21&search.boardtype=L
Since their board uses referer check, I can't post a direct link to the CM7 thread. But any brave soul or for those who can read Korean (I can't) may give it a try.

English ver. Miui Rom by HPa
http://www.mediafire.com/?33jrxu2g5slwerq
Mini CM7 How-to:
1. Download and flash stock 407, you can find it in the General board. Read the guide by TheManii on how to flash
2. Download
http://www.mediafire.com/?ldlniz7wm6ha7s1
http://www.mediafire.com/?vprpvsarlcic7m6
and put them in your SD-Card
3. Flash Streakmod by Fastboot. Read the guide here
4. Without booting into the stock 407 rom, go in to recovery mode (both vol keys depressed) and flash the two zip files you downloaded.
5. while in recovery mode: Wipe user data, wipe user partition, wipe dalvik cache, fix permission. Reboot with both vol keys depressed.
6. Do a factory Reset while booting up with vol keys depressed. (dell factory reset method - first option of the four options)
Tips:
1. turning off boot animation in Cyanogenmod setting gives me a 20 sec boot up time with stock innerSD card, insane !!
2. It was found that Wifi-On will keep the device awake(on purpose), hence, battery draining. If you don't need wifi connection 24/7, you can use Green Power in market to override the wifi rule and only have it turned on when screen is on, and turns off the wifi automatically when screen is off. It's also customizable, that you can force wifi to stay on for specific time or if there's traffic

CM7
Works so far..... started fresh from 407 Olleh, flashed streakmod recovery, flashed CM7 then the gapps-gp-20110828-zip... from there I wiped data, cache, and fixed permissions, from there I factory reset and boot. So far so good I installed market and gmail. Camera, navigation, sms also works lost contacts but had that backed up, 10hrs running and counting again so far so good.
IM not having any luck. Getting stuck at the CyanogenMod animation after about 5 minutes. Which of the 2 downloads are you using?
SGS II I9100 from TapaTalk
CM7
I flashed (update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-DS-KANG-HPA-BETA7-signed.zip) do not wipe or clean cache.... flash (gapps-gs-20010828-signed.zip) next then wipe data, caches, fix permissions, do factory reset and let it boot up.
What are the advantages or disadvantages over using DSC ?
new roms
Are either cm7 or miui copyrighted?
Are there any problems with using these roms legally given they are korean aand obviously belong to their creator.
Does the creator give permission for these roms to be used?
I understand they are ports but would rather be safe than sorry.
If ok to use which links are people using given that not all people can read korean.

None of us can read Korean (or at least I know off) here
Just follow the links and you will see some mediafire links .. at least give it a try

Posting files here would be like redistribution without the dev's permission ...which you kind of want to avoid here.

Booted up just fine - looking it over and I setcpu to max for fun - gives quadrant of 2044 on quadrant advanced - no idea if that's for real or not but just saying... camera works..video camera too..
So so far so good..

why all of a sudden people start worrying about the legality of installing custom ROMs? like, if it's developed on xda it's legal and if it isn't it not? it's been published on the internet, just in a language different than english!

Yes very odd. The Gates/Jobs mind control really has gone deep.
For one thing, this rom is based on DSC in the first instance. Besides, isn't the Linux ethos to share and to give back to the community any enhancements?

Everything seems to work so far including camera and Wifi. I'm astonished.
I am using CM7, it is purely awesome, everything works , the only drawback I found is that it uses more battery than DSC , but I can love with that for now.
Just awesome jobs the Koreans.
Now I can say that streak is not dead anymore.

No CM9 Roms work for me

Hey all,
Well title pretty much says it all, whenever I try install any CM9 based roms they always freeze while booting.
CM7 roms install and work fine but I would prefer to install a CM9 rom.
Am I missing something?
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening?
I am wiping dalvik, cache and data.
Thanks
Try adding "Factory reset" to that list and flash this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563137
If it works fine, try another (prior wiping caches + factory reset...)

I have the same problem too, all the ics roms do not work except for the one stated in this thread previously and the Hellfire ics rom.
It gets stuck at the boot screen.. I have tried wiping everything including sdcard..
And also, my kindle hangs frequently when running 3d games and I have to hold the power button to force shutdown it..
Is it a problem with the kernel?
The notifications button at the bottom right corner is also very unresponsive, I have to press it several times to open the menu..

Just curious, what recovery are you guys using? If you're not on CWM I'd switch over and give it a go. Maybe you're getting improper wipes.
how long are you guys waiting till you say its freezing most roms while booting up for the first time the boot animation isnt long enough for the installation process and will stop but if you wait a few min it will boot right up... that first boot is when it builds its cache and davlik cache so it takes some time

Its not that I'm not waiting long enough for the boot animation or anything. For example it will load up some the first time and get all the way past the spinning circle on the CM9 boot animation and get stuck on the "verifying apps" screen. Other times that i try to boot it it will get stuck with just the little android and the circle around him, not even 2 full seconds into the boot animation.
The "Verifying apps" afaik should not be showing up on a fresh install. That only happens to me when I upgrade to a comparable rom I.e. one cm9 rom to another cm9 rom. Correct me if I'm wrong but what that sounds like is the os is choking on some left over apps.

All signs are pointing to a ****ty wipe. The recovery's fault, so long as you didn't forget to wipe everything under mounts.
