lately the touchscreen on my T-Mobile MDA sometimes stops responding, sometimes after slowing considerably. Up till now I have been able to get it going again after (several) soft resets, turning it on and off and fiddling around with it in general. There doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to it though.
Does anyone experience the same problem and/or know what might cause it and how to fix it?
Thanks!
Too many programs running? X doesn't close programs, it just minimises them.

I'll give that a try. I assume it will explain itself as to how to use it.

Nope. I checked and once or twice even a soft reset didn't fix the problem, so there weren't any programs running at the time. Thanks for the suggestion anyway, though; I'm pretty new at this XDA stuff, so you never know

Hi,
Man I know how frustating that is. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago where the touchpad only worked when I used my fingers, it didnt' respond to the stylus at all... I was *this* close to hard resetting or sending it in for repair, but a friend of mine suggested re-aligning the screen. Worked like a charm. Give it a try. I'm bogged down at work so I dont have time to look at where it was, but I think its in settings > screen somewhere.
Good luck!
Yesterday i cut a Screen Protector from an Ipaq hx 4700 to fit my Qtek S100, i cut it a little bigger so that it would fill the whole screen and be under the edges, what happened was that i couldn't tap anywhere, i did a Hard Reset thinking it was a bad configuration or something i did wrong, but the problem was the screen protector...i removed it and know it works just fine! I used Xbackup to restore my data and everything now is right!except i don't have a screen protector...

Yeah, I read about the screen protector issue before. That wouldn't explain why it is working fine most of the time in my case though. About your problem, the general consensus seems to be that the problem is the screen protector touching the sides. You could try again but cut it slightly smaller.

I've tried running this on the device but it doesn't seem to do anything. What am I missing?
I've even removed the screen protector, but that didn't fix the problem either. Right now it is part of the screen (lower left) that is not responding. It's starting to get pretty annoying, but I'm reluctant to have T-mobile send the device off for repair. Since there's no fixed pattern to the problem I expect some repair guy is probably just going to hard-reset it anyway, try if it works for 5 seconds and send it back
Joost, let me know if you managed to resolve this... I have the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18224
Will do, but it's not looking good. I can't seem to pin down a pattern, so it's hard to try and eliminate possible causes. I'm 99% certain it's a software problem; it comes and goes and I'm not even using a screen protector that might cause it. It seems to have something to do with calibration/alignment, because usually it's only part of the screen that becomes unresponsive (bottom left or bottom right mostly)...
As you can see (in the thread linked above), I managed to solve it -- it seems like there was a registry setting (in my case).
Did you ever manage to pin down what registry setting was responsible?
no, I didn't spend any time/energy on it -- but you can follow my steps if you want to try that route.
But I am not sure it is the same in your case, for mine it was constant after the ROM upgrade, not something that would come and go...
I think I've got it!!! Bad touch screen response (and general slowing of the device) seems to be related to weak/no network reception. Probably Windows Mobile gives priority to reestablishing network connection over some other processes, amongst which is screen response. This would be ok if the network routine only tries at intervals, freeing up time for other stuff inbetween, but it seems it just keeps trying continuously.
The way to solve this is probably to lower the priority of the network connection routine. So far, so good... Does anyone know if this can be done, for instance by changing a registry setting? If so, which one and what value?

I had the exact same problem of non-responsive touchscreen once i installed the protector which came with the device. After reading thro this thread, i slightly lifted the protector from the bottom edges and VOILAA!! the screen works again.
Strange problem this !!! Thanks for all the help.
Firstly - I Have read the wiki and beleive my problem does not relate.
I was using rltoday on my today screen and decided to change the refresh rate in the xml file to show seconds on the clock. As soon as i changed it my touchscreen failed. I have tried everything in the wiki to fix it if it was a screen alignment issue - but its not.
Can someone please help me?

Need more info. Is it just not touch sensitive is the screen blank, have you soft reset etc.
Mike
Its just not touch sensetive, i have soft reset. Someone told me to hard reset and now i'm stuck in the "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile-based device". It won't acknowlege the tap.
Have you accidentally dropped it or anything to that effect??
Or is this literally just since you tweaked the clock refresh rate??
It's literally sine i tweaked the clock refresh rate. I havent dropped it or done anything else like that.
Joe
I probably need i new screen, don't i?
Thanks for your replies

try reflashing a new ROM in it if you ****ed with the clock speed that was stupid since i dont think at the moment there are any apps that properly clock the processor

I would just be cautious not to assume a screen fault as opposed to some other fault. If you are taking it for repair that's one thing but if you were thinking of replacing the screen yourself it might still not work.

Update!
My touch screen does work! If i hold the stylus in the top left corner of the screen and drag it down, the start menu appears. I can also go up and down in the settings menu. I have followed the instructions for screen alignment, hasn't made any difference.
Where should i go from here?
thanks

I have the same situation as you.
I took my x01ht to a repair shop. Touch screen replacement is not work.
The technician said that hermes uses Samsung CPU which integrates with touch screen controller.
In order to fix our problem, replacing the CPU(board) is needed.
Don't know whether that is true or not

Somehow get to the notes application and try drawing on the screen. This will let you know whether only the left side of the screen is working.
If you get weird shapes coming up then you'll just have to send it for repair as it's not as people often assume, just a screen problem.
EDIT: Hang on!!! How can you have done the screen alignment if the screen is not touch sensitive at the 5 crosshairs on screen??????

Update.
I've been stupid. the touch screen wasnt working, i was just pressing so hard it was pushing the keypads in. What an egit!
Had my Exec about a month now, no troubles with it (well dropped it once) it was working fine until last weekend, and now the sensitivity on the screen seems to switch itself off! i have to tap it repeatedly quite hard (with my fingers) for it to recognise that i want to tap the screen, then its fine, but as soon as i stop using it, it turns off again!
i've hard rebooted twice now and it solves the problem for a couple of minutes and then reverts to not recognising my screen taps..
anyone offer some help?
oh i guess i should supply some details about the firmware etc?

hmm one of the issues i've had with my exec is as if the screen is multiple selecting.
For example if i'm looking through my messages and one it already selected, I click on another message and that one gets selected too, dont know if this is an issue of similar nature to yours. After a hard reset it's fine so i'm not sure what causes it.

Might be your screen protector???
I have had the "multiple selecting" issue in Total commander.
I cannot be 100% sure but mine seems to be solved by letting the screen rotate between portrait and landscape - but making sure the today screen and plugins are FULLY drawn before rotating again.

Nah, mine had it from the start.
After almost 2 years, it has only just had the "T" of the soft key a little not so sensitive. The rest are ok.
Maybe re-calibrate may help???
I wonder...
Does this have anything to do with the devices 'Double tap sensibility' setting??
Just a thought... Maybe, as I have never had a problem like this so not really sure!!
Screen trouble multiple selecting
I had this trouble and found a definate fix its to with the loose contacts of the touch screen to the main board if u use a T6 screwdrivers under the batter is four screws lift the panel off. You'll see two grey bit where the coaxile cable joins to the board make sure the connection isn't loose put a folded piece of paper on top or something to keep it tight, i think its the top grey bit but u'll ave to keep testing till you get it right maybe bottom, then put the bottom panel back on screw it up put the battery back and it should work, well did for me.
hope this helps.

Hi just Wondering would you think this could be a problem with one that when the screen is opened and spun so the touch screen is on the outside that the touch dose not work?
It works fine when i just open it its when i spin it and close it again that it loses its touch.
Any ideas as to what might be wrong would be appreciated. ill try the suggestion above anyway.
How to change the sensitivity of the screen ?
I want it to be more sensitive to finger touches so i dont have to apply any pressure on the screen to register a "click."
Is there any way to change this ?
I heard somewhere that when you calibrate the screen, it not only calibrates where you touch the screen, but also how much pressure you apply? Is that true anyone?
Seems true to me, barely takes any pressure for me to use the touch screen.
I had the same problem wen I formatted my phone again, I had to calibrate the phone again and it worked perfectly.

That is AFAIK true.
To recalibrate, go to Start -> Settings -> choosing the system tab -> tap the screen icon.
There, you can recalibrate where you touch the screen and how much pressure you apply to the touches.
Thanks guys.
Just tried to re-calibrate the screen with little pressure by my clicks, and it works better now.

My X1a arrived from a previous owner without the stylus working, so I'm hopeful that calibrating the screen will remedy the problem like it has for so many (altho a handset problem is still a possibility).
However, before I do (which will be after work today), I was hoping to hear why, or how anyone could screw it up, so that I could either troubleshoot the current problem, or minimally not screw up the procedure myself.
This is my 1st smartphone so pardon the newbish query ...

Thanx Squidgy ... my search tumed up this thread only, altho your thread seems to be more about an alternate procedure, and does come up short on why or how anyone could screw up the primary procedure(?)
Edit: I also could have been more clear ... ie, finger touch seems to work well, while my stylus does not ... and that's a bit of a mystery to me(?)

I Have found that if you calibrate with finger, then stylus doesnt work so good but if you calibrate gently with stylus, then finger and stylus works far better
try it

My own approach to the procedure (called an alignment) took me around the screen several times. I don't know if it was trying to acquire some minimum threshold of satisfaction, but I might imagine it leading some users to pressing harder and harder. Your suggestion was an impetus for using soft touches only, and the result is a stylus touch that is now very sensitive.

I don't understand what you mean "this post is old"...
The methods described in the post work, and I can't see any other newer versions of that softtouch, apart from the softtouch keyboard which is a completely different app.
As for why you would want to use the 2nd procedure (I don't know how you could bugger up a .cab installation), personally I prefer a quick clean reg edit to installing a cab. But each to their own.
Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a way to reduce screen sensitivity under android, such as it is possible to do under Windows mobile by installing proper cab files.
Indeed I have some problems while typing under android, as the screen is super sensitive and I always make mistakes. I know I should have some touchscreen problems, but it would be great to solve this problems through a SW fix, as I did under windows mobile, without sending the device to the orrible HTC assistance.
anyone knows how to reduce screen sensitivity?
im wondering the same thing since i got this cheap charger which makes the sensitiving horrible, but back to normal when i unplug it.
android made my faulty touchscreen much more usable than stock winmo. but you are right: typing with standard keyboard is also nearly impossible for me! that's why i use swype. my touch is jittering around every few minutes. at this moments it's better for me to wait until it's over...
at least: +1 for a lower touchscreen sensitivity under android!

yeah, i know that my touchscreen is a bit faulty. at cold weather (like now) and cold hands, it is nearly unusable for writing but under winmo the jitterbug wasn't that annoying after sensitivity reduction! that's why we are looking for it on android.

Anyone tried changing the sensitivity setting on the HD2?
Go to All apps/Settings/Language & Keyboard/Touch Input/Text Input/ then scroll to the bottom for Calibration Tool. There you can change the touch sensitivity.
My touchscreen is faulty too.. i hope Hastarin will make for us a special Kernel to fix this issue.. i just have to wait till that jitterbug ends, then i could type...

+1 on asking astaring for a kernel with reduced sensitivity
The probem is that if we send the telephone to HTC they will simply upgrade the ROM to the 3.14, as in the new official ROM the sensitivity has been drastically reduced and the problem doesn't appear anymore...
but under android it is still present (and the touch screen remains faulty)!!
thenomadsoul = I can only make calibration, I can't see a way to directly reduce screen sensitivity
If memory serves me right, a keyboard with words for you to type appear, from what I know cause I have done this, the harder to press the less sensitive the screen is to touch, the lighter you press the more sensitive it is to touch.
If im completely off base, then take me out to the pasture and shoot me

Any update about what already discussed?
Same. Any update?
Tried Magldr 1.13 and Clockwork 1.3 updates.
Used HyperDroid and ghost touching was just as bad, though it took a while.
Tried Typhoon mod and it had same issues.
Using Stock Gingerbread and it's still giving some indications but not so bad.
It seems like the screen is just way too sensative. I'm out in the wind and the screen somehow picks up the wind hitting the screen as me touching it?
Is this a Hardware Problem?
I´m using Android in my Hd2 too, version gingerbread from nexus one by tytung...
I had problems with screen sensitivity in WinMo, and for now in Android os...
So, maybe this problem is a hardware issue? If try replace screen, this problem persists?
In HD2 plus Android, this device is great... except screen sensitivy.
Sorry about my poor english.
I'm not sure it's a sensitivity problem.
Rather I think that to use screen we have to press keys on the touch with almost strong strength.
What I think is that sometimes it seems HD2's touch doesn't clear the buffer of pressed coordinate... and it starts to press here and there randomly.
Or it seems there is some strange signal which causes this.
I think lowering touch screen sensitivity won't solve our problems.
