[Q] Accounts disappearing from accounts and sync - Blade General

Hi all can someone help me with the accounts on my San Francisco Blade running cyanogenmod 7.1. When I add an account it disappears after a few days, the only account that remains is the google account itself. I would like the phone to remember quite a few other accounts such as WhatsApp, Viber, Hotmail, Facebook and Skype. I have experimented with using different profiles but so far no luck at all, cheers.

Do you clear data for the above apps you've mentioned?

Not that I am aware of, I guess I could add an account and then clear the data in order to check this out. Where would I delete data and how could I check to see if this was happening? Thanks for your help.

it is not data and cache mate. I am having the same problem i have had this problem from day one cant find a proper answer to it :/
Apps i have in sync:
1) whatsapp
2) gmail
3) facebook
if i reboot the synced apps disappear from the sync menu and if i reboot my phone the apps will also disappear.
it is an annoying problem and wish i could find the answer to it too mate

after asking a few talented devs that i know in real life i was given a simple solution to try and move the apps to the phone instead of sd card and see if the sync settings will save properly.
Although i am sure that on my testing device (my testng toy) the vodafone 858 smart i keep all apps on the sd card and they sync properly so this could be a device problem or something not 100% sure.

Ok. So did it work? I thought maybe its something to do with Dalvik or Cache.
Sent from my Blade using XDA app

This is because u have the apps on ur memory card
When the phone boots, it loads the accounts before loading the SD card and since the apps aren't loaded, the accounts disappear.
Move them to phone memory
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

after leaving the phone on while sleeping like always i woke up rebooted the phone and the sync settings were gone to so leaving them on the phone instead of the s card is not the solution

What do u think? Rom.? Or cache?

i am not sure still trying to figure out the problem

Just moved WhatsApp back to the phone, added the account and rebooted and this works, the account is still there, I will now try moving the other apps one by one and report back.

for some reason its working for me to now but i am 100% sure that on my vodafone smart 858 it would sync the apps from the sd card also

I have just moved Hotmail and Facebook back to the phone and rebooted. All accounts are still present in Accounts and Sync settings, thanks for the help people.

great to see that moving the app to phone has also worked for you

[Q] Primary gmail account syncing problems

I have not made any changes to the settings but all of a sudden my phone is not consistently syncing with my gmail account. It only syncs every once in a while and it does not sync all the unread emails.
I have tried a reboot by taking the battery out.
Can anyone think of anything else I can do? Thanks in advance for the help.
Have you checked your Account Sync settings (Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync) yet? Any errors? Sometimes you'll see a red splat letting you know an account can't currently sync. Usually, this is just a temporary issue.
I'll wait to speculate anything else until you can post more info about what you're seeing in your Accounts & Sync settings.
No errors. No ideas.

Man, we're going to need some more info. Did it ever work? What does "once in a while" mean? There's no such thing as random...
It's worked for the last 4 weeks perfectly. My phone was getting gmail faster then the gmail app on my laptop.
Yesterday I received 25 gmails but it only synced one of them. Hmm, I wonder if it could be the new gmail "priority" email thing since the one email that did sync was a friend and the others may have been ads. But I don't see a setting for that.

Yeah, I'd look into that whole Priority Inbox thing. I'm not using that at all because I just don't need it - and I run my own business and still don't need it. It sounds like something "superficial" is at play here. If you weren't syncing you'd truly just not be syncing - or would have errors in the Accounts & Sync area.
As far as I can tell, the whole Priority Inbox thing is managed server-side - i.e. I don't see an option for it within the Android app. Considering no one else is having a similar issue (and those who are using Priority Inbox know what to expect, so they aren't seeing an "issue" on their phone), I would suspect a setting/configuration/option as the problem; and not an actual problem with syncing.
Keep us all posted though! What users expect from software and what software actually does, are two different things...
Thanks for the help. I don't think I did anything to resolve the problem. It just started working again. Maybe it was a gmail thing.
Thanks again.

I've noticed similar behavior once in a while.. i found that unchecking and rechecking the mail sync checkbox in sync settings will temporarily resolve it.. and it doesn't happen very often.
I've always thought it maybe had to do with me toggling the gsm only/wcdma gsm auto settings as I go to and from my house and/or the combination of manually turning mobile data on and off (all battery management exercises) so I just leave mobile data on now (still have always on data off.. this was going to be my next thing I tried if it kept up) and it seems to happen less often but still once in a blue moon it'll hang..
I also use priority inbox but haven't had any other evidence that led me to believe that this was the culprit.

not sure your *wife* would appreciate your freudian slip there ... ha.
how did you wipe her gmail settings? i know how to clear the cache. did you mean clear the application data and the cache?

Gmail acting weird?

Anyone else notice in the past couple of days.. that the stock gmail app isn't marking read emails as read? So, for example.. when I get a new email and check it on my phone, the gosh darn email that I just opened and read remains unread. Then when another email comes, my phone shows that I have two unread emails. Then, the only way to mark them as read is to actually read them on my computer.
Anyone else?
This happened to my wife before. Go into Settings -> Applications -> Gmail and wipe the data and cache for it. You will have to re-signin then everything should re-sync and start working again.

Im having the same issue as the OP
im running ice glacier 1.1.6 and for the life of me can not get gmail to update the emails on the account...ive tried wiping the data/cache ive tried to update the gmail app and as it stands right now nothing is working...its very frustrating
1.Send email from acct A to acct B
2.Check acct B on phone and read the message and then log out
3.Check acct B on the computer and message that was read on the phone is still "new" on the computer
the above goes for deleting and archiving mails as well
are there any other solutions to this issue...ive been searching the net for an hour and everyone just says delete cache and thats just not working for me
You could always try to wipe cache and dalvik-cache from recovery. Failing that, if you are truly determined to clear things, do a full system wipe (after making a settings backup via Titanium, so you can restore the non-broken parts easily).

Well I also run IG and it works 100% for me. Everyone's silicon is different, though. Are the gapps provided for Cyanogen/Gingerbread compatible with Froyo builds? You might try ripping the mail from that and doing a hard uninstall/reinstall of mail only either by hand or via Titanium.

not sure if the ones from cm7 are compatible...the interesting part is...the problem only seems to happen with personal emails not commercial emails from companies or notifications that are sent by mail
either way...i switched back to cm7 for the time being as i was having a couple other minor issues with IG...may go back at a later time...just cant find a rom that i really dig

ok i may be beating a dead horse here...but i have a question for ya Kline...just cuz its picking at my brain lol
if u receive an email and you check it on your phone and either delete it or just have it marked as read and you immediately check the same account on your computer...the email is deleted or marked read?
im asking cause i think its based on the sync time between the phones gmails acct and the computers gmail acct

My phone and PC seem to lag about 30-60s between each other, but both still stay in sync (lucky me, haha). Maybe it helps I am on WiFi whenever I am at home? Probably a quicker connection to sync via than the cell network.

Gapps + Acore FC

I've tried lots of stuff, I factory reset and cleared all caches.. and reflashed my rom used supercharger (which doesn't stick) nothing works -.- I'm on EH17 Urban Vendetta rom. Any ideas to fix?

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Had this problem a hundred thousand times before I enabled journaling. I forget exactly what I did. What I cleared exactly. But I think on mine I cleared cache of contacts in titanium. And then google services framework. Sorry I can't be more help but that's roughly how I fixed it. Don't worry to much, it's very annoying but it is fixable. And also when you do get it sorted flash journaling on zip. Fyi I found all the info I needed with a few google searches.

You basically have two options, you can Odin and start again or wipe everything 3x and re-flash the ROM. once it boots, you can power down, wipe everything 3x and restore a nandroid backup. Some people have had success wiping app data then booting to recovery and wiping cache and Dalvik. That works sometimes but the other two methods will eliminate the error. Make sure you are running journal on for stability
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I reflashed and wiped the first few times that happened. After that I got away with clearing contacts and google service. So 3 options atleast in my experience.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Are you restoring data? It may be corrupted. Restore an older backup after all the wipes or best yet don't restore anything and download your apps fresh from the market and don't forget to enable journaling.

I had this problem span over to good nands that I knew for a fact were good backups (restored many times). The only way to fix it is use Odin, once this was done my nands were good again, free of FC's, go figure o_0 .
Same thing as the op....urban vendetta...ill try to odin/repartition to try to fix nand errors
Great advice guys, honestly I didn't feel like using Odin XD but I cleared eerything x3 and cleared cache w/ Titanium, and it worked! Then. Flashed a Journaling.zip so I think I'm good now. Thanks! I really didn't wan switch from this rom, it's been working really well for me.
Edit: Wait spoke to soon I'm getting acore FC'S Again -.-
Flashed caches in recovery and it stopped so far.

i have this problem too, just started happening after switching launchers on E17. I ditched TW to use ADW and Gapps started force closing. I tried to clear data for gapps but the option is greyed out in the Manage Apps menu.
Oddly enough, i'm not in the mood for a reflash either.

One fix for the GAPPs FC on Epic.
I recently fixed a problem like this that had me pulling out my hair. I Odin'ed a new modem, reflashed SRF. I finally resorted to a stock ROM and still no joy. Phone would ring and not answer, calls had no volume, Google framework crashed repeatedly.
For some reason, I plugged in a set of earbuds and suddenly the sound worked and it quit crashing. Everything back to normal.
Why? I think there was grit and moisture stuck in the earphone jack. Plugging in the earphones dislodged it. Strange but true.
If you just clear data on google framework with titanium backup you should resolve the problem.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It happens if you pull battery while phone is on or when phone battery dies while phone performing some task.
1 Turn off the phone before battery dies
2 Dont pull battery while phone is on,unless theres no other choice
3 Have journaling on
If you follow these rules you will almost never get these fc's.

How do I know or check that?
I am on SFR 1.2 with Genocide kernel.
---------- Post added at 09:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 PM ----------
I found a post on google.com's support. I believe I have the problem narrowed down to syncing Gmail contacts and syncing Facebook. I can't remove my Gmail account unless I wipe the phone and I don't want to have to do that.
I cleared FB data and re-synced and it gives a FC and then a sync error.
I should be okay with both of these items not syncing contacts, as I really only add contacts to my phone anyways. Here is the text from the post I found:
user dchoule01 from this link http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=23c329285968cd2e&hl=en
"Lowly and chrs are closest to understanding the problem. From everything I've seen this can happen on pretty much any model of phone, any carrier, and because of email, contacts, calendar. If you google this gapps force close you'll find every combination, but there's always one thing in common... a phone tries to sync some tidbit (an email, event, contact) and fails with this error. Everyone suggests backing up and deleting and restoring and copying and yada yada yada. Other solutions work for one person but not another because for me it was a bad calendar event and for you it was a bad contact. For me I'm syncing two external calendars to my phone and you're syncing three. For me I'm syncing X days of calendar and you're syncing Y Days. I deleted records server side and you did it on the phone. I cleared data and you didn't. It's endless. All these variables cause tons of confusion.
Bottom line is this...
Turn the sync off for all accounts on your phone (gmail account, facebook account, exchange account, whatever accounts you have.) Under each account there are individual services, like the gmail account syncs contacts, calendar, email, and picassa, while my exchange account syncs a second email and calendar. Turn off (uncheck) sync for each individual service.
Feel free to backup data from those apps if you want, can't hurt, but resyncing later should put it all back... unless you've created something solely on your phone like local calendar events or local contacts. When I create calendar events and contacts on my phone I always attach them to my server side gmail account so they're available both on the phone and on the internet (when adding a new contact on the phone I choose "save to google" and for calendar it's the calendar you choose - "my calendar" is the local one and your google email is the server side calendar.) If you have purely local stuff then you'll want to back that up because it'll be lost, it's not synced to anything server side.
Go into apps - manage - each app (gmail, calendar storage, etc) and clear data & cache. Depending on the app you may have to put account info back in later, like if you clear data in email you'll have to log back in the next time you open the app. Same with facebook. If you clear data for something like an exchange account you'll have to re-enter the account info because that's stored in the app's data storage along with cached emails. Just be ready after clearing data & cache that you may need to re-enter login info for that specific thing.
Now go back to accounts, pick one, drill down into its services, and turn on each service one by one by checking the green checkmark to turn sync back on. Let the wheel spin until it's done. Sometimes helps to be connected to wifi prior so syncs happen faster. As you turn on each sync and let it *completely* finish you will eventually run across one of them that causes the 1-3 buzz and gapps force close. For me it's always been calendar but other people have seen emails and contacts cause this. Another thread here ended with google support saying they had corrected the problem in gmail for people running 2.1 but I haven't seen them address 2.2 or calendar / contacts.
Okay, so all you've really done now is narrow down the problem to the offending app, and it could be one of several possibles, so I won't detail each individual fix for each app, but basically what you now do is compare records on you're phone to records on the server side. Maybe you do that by syncing contacts and see where it chokes, maybe you visually compare calendar events on the phone to the ones in google calendar. However you do it, you'll eventually find a record that's in one place and not the other, or it's in both places but some attribute doesn't match. You've found your perpetrator. That's the record that gapps is choking on. There may be more than one record choking, but I've only ever seen it happen to one at a time.
For that one app, once again, turn off sync, clear data & cache, and then before turning sync back on, delete that one record from the server side (it's already gone from the phone when you cleared data.)
When you turn sync back on it should re-sync all the happy records and that bad record will be gone, it's not server side and it's not on the phone, so it shouldn't choke on it anymore. You can then recreate that one record bad on the server side and it should push down to the phone just fine.
In a nutshell it appears that there is some problem with google's sync that creates a bad record, or a bad pointer to a record, and the phone can't sync to that one record, so it chokes each time it tries. Sometimes the bad record is on the phone and it can't push up, sometimes it's on the server and it can't pull down. To make things more confusing the sync function sleeps for a while after force closing, so it can appear to be fixed. And if you have juicedefender or something that kills data connection when the screen is off you might think you've fixed the problem, only to see it come back later when you're using your phone on some unrelated screen and sync wakes up in the background and retries that bad record. It makes it look like Memo or Browser is causing the gapps force close but that's only because you're viewing that app when sync wakes up in the background.
I've found this problem occurs most when I add, edit, or delete events, contacts, email from the phone. Creating records on the internet in google normally works fine. But in every case the fix always seems to be the same thing... isolate the offending app, normally calendar, gmail, or contacts, then isolate the offending record within that app, shut off syncing for that service, clear data on the phone, delete the record on the server, turn sync back on, everything is fine, re-create the bad record. I've had to do this three times now since Froyo was released on the Epic and the problem has been corrected with this method each time, at least until I get calendar happy and edit too many events on the phone at once instead of using google on the internet, then the problem comes back. But now that I realize what this is, I've figured out that if I see this problem come back I can just go delete the last few records (normally a cal event) that I've added / edited in the last day or so, clear data from the phone, and re-sync. That fix consistently works for me."
I don't wanna quote an delete that stuff XD. But I've read a lot that it can be due to syncing errors as well, but that wasn't the fix for me. =/ it may work for you though. When I say flash 'journaling on' I mean that there's a zip file called "journalingon.zip" floating around and flashing it often fixes these errors. =P also try fixing permissions in recovery (CWM). Surely one of these plus the instructions you've posted will fix the error.
I would upload the journalingon.zip for you to download.. but I dunno how! XD

Gmail app isn't showing 's correctly in from field.

Hey guys, I have a bit of an issue here. I've had issues recently with Gmail syncing so I went in and cleared out the application data to get to sync again, which worked. But now any e-mail, where the from field has 's in it, like Papa John's. It instead is showing Papa John's. I've tried clearing cache and dalvik cache on my device and clearing the application data from gmail again but it still shows up. Of course the from field shows up fine on gmail.com. I'm on the Gingerbread stock ROM from x99. Trying to see if anyone has any options before I do a factory reset, thanks .

Go to manage applications -> gmail -> force stop -> clear cache and reopen gmail.
Also try changing the sync time from 4 days to 3 days and run a sync from acounts -> sync -> google -> menu -> "sync now".
If that doesn't work, force stop again, clear cache and clear data and try.
If that doesn't work try running fix permissions from ROM Manager. If that doesn't work try uninstalling and reinstalling GMail.
If that doesn't work try installing the old 2.3.5 version.
I've had it where I was on a call and hit send on an email and gmail would get stuck on "sending.." for that message and couldn't do anything with it. First 2 steps was the only real way to get around it. I wasn't even able to open the message in my outbox and save it as a draft.
Let me know if that helps.
Well I tried all of your suggestions man and still the same thing is happening. I even went as far as to do a factory reset and setup my gmail account and the same thing happened. At this point I'm thinking it must not have anything to do with my phone huh?

Probably. Could you please describe the problem more? Is the phone not adding 's after certain words? screen shot? something?
Well the only place that the 's isn't showing up correctly is in the From field. Everywhere else in the e-mail it'll show up fine. And the only e-mails I get so far with 's in the from field is Papa John's or Wendy's. So instead they'll show up as Papa John's or Wendy's. And when you click on the e-mail, where the from shows up in green it'll look the same.

Having an apostrophe in an email address is just bad news.
LOL
Lol, yea it's not exactly a make or break situation for me but I hadn't seen anywhere else about it until I saw that

com storage changes my contacts pictures

Hi, on my Wife's Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) Non-Rooted Phone. Her contact Pictures keep changing to a blank Picture. I went on line using a PC and went to her Google Contacts and her pictures of her contacts were there. So I thought it might be a Sync issue..tried syncing and it didn't work...tried restarting, that didn't work...I went to her Application Manager on her phone and cleared the cache and data on each of the following Apps and restarted after each time I cleared the app data/cache, till I found out which one was causing this issue..
CONTACTS
CONTACTS STORAGE
GOOGLE CONTACT SYNC
I don't know what causes this or how I can stop it from happening...I will have to preform this action every 1-2 weeks to correct it, only to have it change again...
I was wondering:
Does anyone else have this issue?
Do you know how to fix it?
Do you know why this keeps happening?
Aside from wiping out here phone and starting it from scratch, (Time consuming) I want to understand the cause behind it first...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!

Does she sync contacts from Facebook, or Twitter, etc?

Yes....they all sync without any issues...she don't have to touch the phone and it automatically does this on it's own..I was thinking it had something to do with AT&T Address Book Sync...but not sure what it could be as COM STORAGE seems to have been the only thing that set it back to normal when I cleared the Cache and Data.....

It could very well be the AT&T program. Freeze it with TiBu, and see if it keeps the correct contact pictures.

Thanks will do...I'll test that out when I get home..
Update: Moderators can close this post. The issue has been resolved. It was a system upgrade that went OTA and had glitches. Had to do a re-install of the OS and factory reset...now everything is perfect...
