Hi!
I have a normal (non-google) Email IMAP account and use the google account only for the market.
Is there anyway to only use the google account with the market and no other google service. I just don't want google to automatic sync my contacts, my photos, my browser. Under systemsettings, I have disabled Gmail Syncing in the settings, but everytime I open the browser, Google signs in automatically in my google account - another strange thing, this morning, my photos were synced - evn syncing is disabled.
Isn't there just a script which can disables these "phone home" options completely?
Thank you!

Hmm its been awhile since ive ran ICS .. but the apps are located in /system/app you will need to use a root explorer or ADB to remove them .
The app names that i got rid of are ...
GoogleBackupTransport.apk
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
and nothing syncs .
Ok - thanks! just killed the apps - now it should be ok!

Hi all
Sorry if this is not an appropriate place to ask, but please let me know of somewhere more suitable if not.
I've got two google accounts bound to my N1. One is a google apps premier account (which I use for email sync) and a normal googlemail account (which I use for calendar and contacts sync).
I use Gtalk on my desktop PC's for the first account (premier apps) and not on the second one, however when I fire up Gtalk on my N1 it is using the second account and not the one I want! I have not found an option to change this behaviour.
Does anyone know how to change which account Gtalk uses on the N1?
Thanks
Android will use the account you entered first. I entered my google apps account first then the gmail account and if I now try to remove the gmail account it says I can't. This is because android has bound the gmail account to the services not supported on google apps accounts.

Hm. I added my gmail account first and then the gapps one. I too found that if I try and remove an account it wants me to factory reset my phone and lose all data/config! This is pretty crappy.
I'm hoping someone can come up with a hack or something to change this behaviour regarding gtalk as I certainly don't want to reset my phone simply to get gtalk working.
I think a reset is the only way for now :-/
This is really poor. Google have slipped up somewhat with annoyances like this
hmm... i've the same problem .. then all we can do is wait
My current workaround is to use the eBuddy application, which is working just fine.
Probably off topic, but has anyone had complaints from their regular buddies about the phone causing frequent disconnects/reconnects to their chat client? One of mine got so annoyed by the alerts that he has cut me off... (using pidgin with my primary gmail account)
(I'm guessing that it happens when I'm connected via wi-fi and voice calls come in... ? ) Does anyone have any settings suggestions for either 1) staying connected or 2) having it just wake up when needed?
I think you can go into Manage Applications in Settings, hit menu and then filter, then select All. Clear the data for Gapps and Gmail, and then reboot. If you do it right, it should ask you to login again like it did when you first turned your phone on. Login with whichever account you want to use Gtalk with.
So I'm trying to delete/readd my gmail account because push won't work consistently. I don't want to wipe the phone. I have, in the past, cleared gmail, google apps and gmail storage but google apps has no data to clear. Clearing gmail & gmail storage doesn't do it. It just clears my e-mails and then resyncs... How do I completely remove?
Go to settings, accounts & sync and enter a new google account. Then tap and hold on the other gmail account to remove it.

Can't be done because the original is the primary... Google won't let you remove it.
Why not create another Gmail account and temporarily sync to it and then switch back?
as noted... you cant delete the original and i need to

The standard calendar app doesnt show all calendars. If I add new calendars though there are shown in the standard Calendar app.
Weird enough some third party apps do allow to select all other gmail app calendars, but they are marked as inactive?
How do i get teh calendar to sync all Gmail Apps Calendars?
Weird, when I go into the calendar settings and click calendars, all of them show up.

With google calender the first time the sync occurs, it happnes with the calenders that are enabled google calendar on the web.
Here is what u can do .
1. Go to google.com/calendar and make all the calendars visible
2. In phone - settings /manage applications delete the data from calendar and calender storage.
3. then settings / accounts and sync - re sync calendar.
Now all the calenders will come in calendar app in phone.
Select the ones that u want.
Thanky you
I tried your method of deleting the data and then re-syncing the accounts. But, now even the main calendar from my google account has disappeared and refuses to show up. Is there something missing here??? Cal widget for example shows all the calendars in its configurations but does not show any of the events from the same.
there is something wrong with the default calendar. I am running stock rom xxki3.
Hi, I had similar issue, i think this is one of known issue on android, I tried "clear data" method, sometimes it may work, sometime it doesnt. I google for solution and I found this temporary workaround would solve the issue, atleast for me..
you may want to try this:-
1. Go to android setting, application (all), clear data on calendar storage (WARNING-this step will wipe all calendar entries which were saved internally on your phone)
2. Go to market, download & install this app called: Business calendar (FREE)
(This app have direct connection to google calendar, which will also download and keep all of your calendars entries (including sub calendars)
3. Open business calendar, login with your gmail account, and it will start sync
(manual: more > sync now) it may take few mins, be patient.
this way, your stock or default calendar will get synced as well automatically...try this out
Thanks for the tip. After selecting the sub-calendars on the app, the default calendar also started recognizing the same. Weird.....
This tips is working.
First time, this doesn't work, I had to erase my google account (by the way to refresh my apps ^^).
But the second time, it worked.

I think this is a bug in Samsung Calendar app. The first time the phone synchronize with google calendar, the phone will download all calendars available for the google account. Each calendar has two flags, sync and visible. The first time, all calendars will be flag unsync and hidden (not visible) except our main calendar. After that we can use the calendar app to choose which calendar will be sync and visible. The problem with Samsung Calendar app, if the calendar is flagged as hidden, then the Calendar apps won't recognize the calendar at all, so we can't change the flag to visible. This does not happen with my other phone. So this is not Android bug. I think this bug exist since Samsung Galaxy S. Someone in Galaxy S use sql editor to edit the calendar database. Meanwhile I use Calengoo. Bussiness Calendar can be used as well
On Gmail & Google Voice, I can't get the "to" field to bring up contact suggestions when typing in a name. Google Voice matches contact names with the phone numbers...so it appears it has a contacts list...it just isn't using it for composing messages.
to get around the contact loading issue i set up the native email app with my gmail info and it ported over my contacts. So now when i use the gmail app it populates the "to" box
Interestingly enough, the contacts app on the kindle still uses the same storage as the standard google contacts app, so if you're rooted and copy googlecontactssyncadapter.apk over from another device, you'll actually see contacts show up in the sync settings, and then be able to pull down all of your google contacts and keep them in sync with the kindle.
EDIT: worth noting - if you've already setup the native email app and imported your google contacts that way, you'll want to clear the contacts storage before doing this, or it will sync as though all the contacts currently in the kindle are new contacts, and youll end up with doubles of everything in your google account.
Outstanding! That did the trick.

got the sync to work via googlecontactssyncadapter, but it looks like it's syncing all contacts rather than just "My Contacts". any way to sync just certain groups or does that require replacing the amazon contacts app with googles.
I noticed that as well, haven't found a fix as of yet - ill let ya know if I come up with anything.
abremel what sync settings are you referring too. Would you please be more specific.
Thank you.

Super that did the trick and it works perfectly. Thank you!
Thanks, abremel! Nice to have my Google contacts pictures showing up in Google Voice!
Not sure if this was necessary, but I'll add it so that someone else with a similar question knows what worked for me.
After rooting, I copied the googlecontactssyncadapter.apk file I got from my EVO 4G (via Dropbox) to the System/apps folder on my KF. Didn't "install" the .apk file. And, I changed the permissions to RW/R/R, as seems to be necessary in other Google apps installs on our KFs.
Will keep checking thread to see if you figure out how to only sync "My Contacts."

I'm having a related hallenge.
Am rooted (JCase method) with GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk , GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk in system/app with matching permissions along with the framework file and market, even have the maps files so Market, Calendar, Books, Reader and even Currents and other location based apps work but I can't get contacts to show up in Sync settings. All I can manage is to import contacts by (re-)setting up my gmail account in the native email app, and it doesn't bring in the physical (I.e.home,office,etc) addresses.

What I did for the doubles: My contacts on the KF had all ready imported when I setup the mail app with my gmail account. When I moved the sync adapter and set the permissions I indeed got the duplicate contacts in both the KF and my GC. Through the web, you can access your GC and do a restore to an hour ago. This got rid of all the duplicates in Google Contacts, then when the KF synched.....Bob's your uncle the duplicates got removed from the Fire.
Hello! (excuse my english)
I have a problem in my Defy (2.2) with the synchronization of contacts and calendar with Google. When I synchronize my contacts, the contacts that I deleted came back and the new ones disappear. In the calendar the same thing happens. I looked around a lot and found no solution. Can anyone help me?
Do u use google calendar sync and google contacts sync for outlook? Or any other sync tool for comp and account?
Do u use msoutlook or website for google account?

Hi, Thanks for helping!
I don't use outlook for anything, not even in my computer. I use website for google account always, and I dont have any other sync tool for google.
It's like, it transfer the "old" data from the website (calendar and contacts) to my device, instead updating all.
So in settings>accounts and synchronization u have checked 'Data in background' and when u checkmark 'autosync' and press your google account u have checked 'contacts' and 'calendar'? (after checking u can uncheck 'autosync')

Well, my phone have only the option "accounts" (not accounts and synchronization); I open "accounts", select my google account and then I have a list: sync contacts, sync gmail, sync calendar. If I want to sync I have to press one by one.
In settings>Data manager>data delivery, I have always checked "background data", if thats what you talking about.
Note: My android is 2.2.1 and I have not enabled motoblur, if that helps.
Well, no more ideas. I had motoblur just for a moment (mean few hours), then switched to custom ROM without motoblur.
The problem is strange but maybe u can try switching motoblur on, as it is to do with accounts sync. Give it a try.
