[Q] How do I undo BurritoBoot3 and FireFireFire installs? - Kindle Fire General

Sorry, I'm new and don't know where else to post this. Searched and searched these forums ad nauseam, even threw wider net and Googled the internet to no avail.
I've made a mistake and screwed up my Kindle Fire by following the instructions to install BurritoBoot3 and the FireFireFire bootloader. It seems to have successfully rooted my KF; but, as warned, it can no longer do Amazon things like watch Amazon videoes! Says "Your device is no longer correctly configured to play Amazon videos. ..." Of course, it's because I rooted it.
Now I want to go back to the way it was so I can watch videos again. Also, I installed the FireFireFire bootloader; but, I don't know what it's supposed to do and I don't think it works. Now when I turn on the KF it starts with this yellow triangle thing that doesn't do anything (I tried all the press until button goes orange and all that). I want to get rid of this, it's annoying.
It's my mistake. I should have done more homework first. I should never have installed or done anything to my Kindle without assuring myself there is procedure available and clearly explained on how to "undo" whatever I did.
For a "root" mechanism, I failed to check if it could also toggle back to "unrooted". If BurritoBoot3 is supposed to have that capability, I never found it documented and I don't know how to BurritoBoot3 is supposed to unroot the device.
Background:
This is a Kindle Fire updated to 6_2_2.
I installed ADW Launcher (side-loaded) so I could put my grandson's picture as wallpaper. Discovered that changing the wallpaper (regardless which launcher) won't "stick": every time the device starts up or comes unlocked the wallpaper switches back to one of the rotating Amazon Kindle wallpapers. This is a known problem and the fix requires temporarily rooting the device so the wallpaper file can be changed to readonly preventing the unlock code from changing it.
So I followed the instructions to install BurritoBoot3 and also let it install something called FireFireFire bootloader (it sounded like I was supposed to do that).
So how do I undo what I've done? I don't have any way to know what all the installation of BurritoBoot3 does, but it has to be more than rooting the Kindle. I managed to unroot it by installing SuperOneClick 2.3.3 from ShortFuse.
But unrooted, my Kindle still can't play Amazon Videos! There has to be more than just unrooting it.
I've rooted my Droid X without any problem at all. Had to use a couple different apps, one when it was new and a different one after Android 2.3.3 update. Each time the apps provided a simple means of toggling root on/off. I just assumed this would, too.
The last thing I want to do is restore the device back to factory condition. I've spent many weeks installing apps (many side-loaded), music, pictures, books, changing settings, etc.
Can anyone help? I will be most grateful if someone could point me at a thread or forum or web site where I could get more ideas on how to fix this mess.

If you want to watch videos....download otarootkeeper from the android market and temp unroot it ..reboot after and you can watch video again
Also clear the cache/data of the amazon video app

Looking for a fix, not a workaround
Just to clarify my post ...
The problem is not that I can't watch videos, it's that installing BurrittoBoot3 and FireFireFire has damaged my KindleFire and I want to fix whatever it did. I'm looking for instructions on how to undo whatever installing them did. I want to get rid of the annoying yellow triangle when I turn it on. I've broken the way it is designed to play videos and who knows what else doesn't work now and I want to fix it, not workaround it by finding another way do what's broken.

Thanks, NORCALkID, again! Clearing cache/data fixes the video play problem.
For those readers (like me) who need help with that, here's how:
From HOME screen, tap little "Settings" wheel icon in upper right corner.
Tap Plus icon for "More ..."
Tap Applications, pull down filter by and select "All Applications"
Scroll down to and tap "Amazon Video"
Tap "Clear Data", tap OK to the Delete warning message.
If Clear Cache Button is still live (not grayed out), tap it and OK to warning, too.
Then, Back, Back, Back, etc. to Home screen and tap Video at the top and try playing a video. Worked for me.

Kindle Reader book selection when rooted

Anyone have a solution to the Kindle Reader app not bringing up a book list if you change the launcher?
Currently I have to go to the stock KF Launcher and pick books/newsstand to selection a new book/magazine to read. Anyone have a hack or setting to change this?
I have the same problem, and would be very interested in hearing an answer!
This is a known issue and there is as of yet no workaround. What I have done and what most people have done is to set a short cut on the desktop for the Kindle Launcher. Then you can select your books/newstand etc. Not the most ideal but it is what we have until Amazon releases a fix or some crafy dev comes up with a better fix in a custom ROM.
-Eric
Thanks Eric!
Just found a workaround. Searched kindle in the market and updated the app. This installed the version that would usually be used on an android device and shows your whole library.
edit: Just a warning, there seems to be no way to make this kindle app full screen. It has the navigation bar (albeit the minimized one) and I'm pretty sure it used to go full screen in the stock kindle app. Also this new kindle app wont work from the stock launcher. I'm thinking about switching back for these two reasons (mostly the full screen thing is bothering me), anyone know how to revert back?
edit2: Also the slider that allows you to quickly jump between locations in the book is covered up by the navigation bar.. Very annoying. Wouldn't recommend doing this unless you don't need that. You can still manually "go to" a section of the book but I'd rather have the slider. Just did a factory restore to get the original kindle app back.

Noob needs to Root Fire but having trouble

I have spent about 6 hours crawling through here looking for help, and found a few bits that were helpful, but nothing that solved my problem.
My Fire is just slow as hell and I can't stand it. The list of "problems" is way too long. I want to put CM7 on it so I can have a useful tablet rather than the POS that this thing is in stock form.
I would love a step by step guide for people (Me) who have zero computer skills. I managed to root my HTC EVO, which wasn't too hard, but the Fire is escaping me. I have done everything I have read I needed to do to root this but I can't figure out what is going on.
I have downloaded the Android SDK tools, and successfully put in whatever the alphabet soup is that you all refer to (ADB). I don't even know what ADB means, but I got the SDK manager and all the tools installed.
I downloaded the Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.1 and told my Fire to accept outside apps.
I followed the destructions and tried to install permanent root with superuser according to the Fire Utility, but it keeps saying ABD Status: Online ABD Rooted: NO.
I found a link to something that would check to see if it was actually rooted, but the app does not open in the Fire and does nothing on my computer.
When I tell the Utility to install permanent root with superuser I get this message repeatedly: "They system cannot find the path specified." I get that whenever I try to use the utility to do anything at all, yet it keeps telling me that whatever was installed successfully.
It says I have superuser access (in the utility) yet there is nothing different in the Fire. I can't use Titanium backup, I can't do anything "new" that I couldn't do before.
My Fire experience is pretty poor so far. Google searches are horrible, I try to type in a word and before I get to the second letter it brings up the most common Google search that was run using the first letter... and fills in the rest. I have to delete it all and start again. Often times I try to edit an email and it won't let me click anywhere I want. I try to open a link to a website and half the time it doesn't work. I can't go "Back" until I click the button 4-5 times. It is just stupid. This "tablet" is nothing more than a paperweight and I am pretty honked that Amazon screwed the pooch on this. Top it off with a SUPER slow internet browser that was touted as the greatest thing ever...
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I am just frustrated at this $200 piece of plastic crap. I need help (With the tablet, not mental help).
Where do I begin? Please understand that acronyms mean nothing to me since I am new at this... I need step by step directions for a beginner! I need to get from Kindle Fire POS operating system to CM7 or something like what every other Android runs so I can actually enjoy my tablet rather than get pissed off at it!

[Solved] Amazon Book purchase after Root???

During the several days it took to get rooting straight (and it's working perfectly now thanks to [-_-] ), I remember reading something about steps required to access the Kindle Store (Amazon) after you have hacked your Fire. I can no longer seem to find those notes. I'm trying to access books already purchased by my wife on her Amazon Account. I've already de-registered my Fire from my account and re-registered it on her account, but I don't seem to have access to her books. Can someone point me to the correct thread or let me know what I need to do?
The only "hack" needed is with relationship to Amazon Video Prime. where you need to use something like OTA Rootkeeper to allow the app to not see you are rooted.
As for books, you have to access them via the default launcher and use sync to use the default book reader.
don't know about purchasing books but to use amazon video you have to use ota rootkeeper to temporary unroot
hope this helps ...
Thanks for the quick responses. I didn't seem to be able to access my wife's books after I DE-registered it from my account and then re-registered it to hers. None of the books would load. Now that I've gone back to my own account, all my books are missing and I can't wirelessly load them. I WAS able to download them to my PC and then copy them via USB to my Fire. I'll have to take a look at installing the OTA Rootkeeper.
Thanks again.
glad to help ...
please mark the subject of the topic (edit first post) to [Solved]
Do you still have the stock Kindle app installed or did it get updated during your rooting process. Mine updated at some point and screwed everything up.
If you go into your app management and uninstall the kindle reader, it should uninstall the updates and take it back to the stock reader app. Then loading up books through the stock launcher cleared up all of the issues on my end. Give it a try.
Simply clearing the data on the kindle app might fix the issue too, though without knowing how deeply Amazon login is integrated it might take more than just a data clear on the Kindle part (because the reader is still just an app).
Amazon prime video service wouldn't work but this app fixed all.
After using this app I just restarted KF and service is working again.

[Q] March 24th update messed up my Fire

After today's update, I no longer have any of my books, can't view the cloud books either. The music section is no longer there, and I have a stupid music button scrolling my last song played when I hit the setting at the top. All of my favorite apps are gone and Amazon tech has no idea why, they are wanting me to do a factory reset, but we spent so long trying to fix it that they have to call me back when the battery if over 40%. Anyone else have a problem with this update?
What update are you referring to? There hasn't been an update past version 6.2.2.
Yes, there was today. http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...Forum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx1SYOUQZI1SLRR
It updated the reader and mp3 player and I don't knwo what else, but it also installs Google Play.

u sure about that? i don't see that listed anywhere...
I found out what the problem was, as well as the updates were coming from Google's Play!
I had the same problem. Only way to get my books back was to do a TWRP backup that was a month old.
Same here. Had to recover from an old backup using TWRP.
After all of the BS, I found it best to turn off background sync and make sure the Play is not allowed to update automatically.
Looks like it will be an active day in this forum after the Amazon KF update has tweaked rooted devices.
i'm doing following (on stock rom):
- no automatic updates (only manually)
- don't update amazon software from google play (the kf has special versions which are integrated with the stock launcher - google play is'nt aware of)
- atm this is amazon mp3 and the kindle app
if you accidentially updated one of it simply go to settings - applications and select amazon mp3 or kindle - select uninstall updates - no need to restore a backup
hope this helps ...
I too noticed that all of my books disappeared today.
I still run the stock 6.2.2 ROM, rooted, with Market (google services apps), GO and ADW launchers installed for a more android-like experience. I have my home button set to run GO launcher, and I access the original Kindle Fire UI via a shortcut to "Launcher"
After fighting with this problem of my books all being gone for about an hour, I found that:
1. the Market app is now Play Store, so it looks like that has updated itself.
2. Google's Play Store has installed "Amazon Kindle" app which seems to conflict with the native Kindle software (the app drawer used to have the app "Launcher" as the only app to get back into the stock looking UI that incorporated the reader and book list, but now there is also the app "Amazon Kindle" in the app drawer as well that allows access to books, not the stock UI though).
3. re-registering the device via the Amazon Kindle app seems to allow me access to my books, through the Amazon Kindle app, while the native UI/reader (called "Launcher", with the shelves) does not properly download/show my books.
4. Instead of short-cutting to the "Launcher" app, which is the original kindle fire UI, I set my shortcut to the "Amazon Kindle" app, which seems to work fine.
I only now realize that others are having the same problem I've had, as I read this thread. I still wonder exactly what has been updated -- is this trouble caused by Play Store or Amazon or both?
I for one will not miss running the stock UI, "Launcher", because I thought it was ugly, and now that I can't use it to access my books, it is also useless to me. I suppose that for those who do like it as a launcher, you could add the new GooglePlay-added app Amazon Kindle, to your list of apps in the native launcher, if you really like it and want to continue using it.
After all of this, I am seriously considering flashing a new ROM, which leads me to a few questions: If I run CM7, can I completely erase the kindle ROM from hogging up a portion of ROM space? More importantly, will I lose the ability to take full advantage of my Amazon Prime account I pay for, such as watching Amazon Prime videos?
I actually ran into this problem on Thursday. At first, I thought it was because I played with SuperUser and tried to install Busybox. I ended up restoring a backup that I had from when I first rooted my Fire (which was only a couple of weeks ago). Then when reinstalling everything that I had done in the meantime, it happened again. So another restore. I then started reinstalling things one by one and came upon the problem being the Kindle app. I deleted the update and things seem to be right now.
So maybe just deleting the update is enough to get things back to normal?
as said in post #10:

Makes perfect sense... Thanks, b

[Q] Nook touch 1.1.2

I just have quick question, i just got my nook yesterday at got it updated to new firmware, i see the several rooting options for nook and im sure i can install any of them without probs what i was curious bout is stability of the different rooting problems with new 1.1.2 are they all pretty compatible to new firmware or is there select few, thanks for any help.
they are compatible. 1.1.2 has improvements on wifi issues, not much changes on the other things.
ok i got it rooted i cant seem to do anything on it the market says "a server error has occurred", opera mini wont even boot at all the scree just flashes for second and the other browser loads and shows internet but when you touch anywere to type it crashes back to main menu. Im tryin to figure what went wrong i followed the directions on TouchNooter 2.1.31.
also youtube wont reboot up screen just flashes. When i first did install it was working ok i got to my gmail account got it set up etc. is touchnooter just outdated and use a different method to root now instead?
ok i got it unrooted and back to original 1.1.2 format. Do i follow the instructions on that still or is there new way to root the nook? Im not best in rooting files but i can follow information posted. Can someone please direct me to most reliable working rooting method for nook 1.1.2? Also i was curious i never used android before all the pdf options you can get from market, is it even worth rooting nook if thats prime reason, most pdfs i have has alot of image heavy files or am i just better off leaving it unroot use adobe to rebuild them instead?
opera mini wont work, i couldnt make it work tho. try opera mobile. to solve market issue, you have to wait 1+ day.
search wont work even after then.
try to check gmails after root, if it works then its ok. dont wory about youtube, since you wont watch any video there.
you can use multitouch + norefresh hack + ezpdf reader after root, that is perfect for pdfs that contains images and such.
check it out: watch?v=6pBPsyno5PY
ok i used minimaltouch this time got it rooted and working having some bugs not sure how to fix it, i know reg msrket you cant search in it so i use the search market app when i try to click on a app to download in search app it flashes attempts to go to next page were download is but fails and goes back to list of search. also the my apps button does same thing it goes back to previous screen in act of will. I also like to access the regular home to get to my reg nook books in my library but when i do it goes on its own accord back to android home, could osmeone help me with those minor bugs?
heres more detailed list on whats going on hopefully somoene will have idea whats wrong so i can fix it than reroot for third time. when you hit the N button and select home it goes to nook home for split second then instantly goes back to android home, when you hit library it goes to library but constantly refreshes non stop you cant select any menus or no ebooks show up in list so you have to rego back to android home. i installed search market for while i was able to download off android market, but now after i do search in searchmarket and select "file1" it does same as home button it goes to next page with download link for split second then it instantly goes back to list of search results. and in regular market when you hit "my apps" it does same thing again it goes to your list of downloaded files for split second and then goes right back to market main menu i cant go anywere no matter how many times i click it it keeps going back to previous menu non stop. gmail still works and syncs and i can access my pdf program i installed but i cant read any of my nook books cant do single thing on market cant go home or to library i also installed nook mobile it works just fine but everything else listed wont work, what could cause this glitch / bug, i followed directions to minimaltouch to letter and i didnt have single hitch during install all way through but now its like this. Is there anyway i can fix this or just keep rerooting 100 times till it finally works?
nevermind
