[Q] on screen cornerstone? - Acer Iconia A500

Has anyone seen the cornerstone app that lets people multitask? If so is there anyone maybe working on how to get it on our tablets? It looks pretty cool....Just thought i would ask

I don't think we will see it for a while but here is something kinda kewl. Check out my screen shots
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531405

I'm itching to take cornerstone for a spin also. I see galaxy tab 10.1 and Xoom have builds for cornerstone. Hopefully will not be to long till we can take it for a spin

I know Thor was playing with it in his new rom but was having trouble making it play nice...
I know he is the big bad guy but you can't deny he has been working on his ICS build a long time and if he's having trouble it may not bode well for the devs over here...
Don't shoot me, just the messenger...

Gingerbread’s Screen Off Animation

I found this on Phandroid:
We promised we’d be digging for more information about Gingerbread well ahead of its coming out party, and we’re making steady progress. We initially broke the news on Monday. While most of you remained skeptic thanks to the world’s worst screen grab ever, we expect some of you have come around to trusting us now that the YouTube app we talked about in that post officially launched a few days later. Today, we have a little bit more.
What you see above is what happens in Gingerbread when turning your screen off: a cool effect not unlike what we used to see when turning a TV off back in the tube days. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it certainly is nice and it’s worthy to note that this is the first time we’ve seen animations of this sort triggered upon hitting the designated screen off button on your phone. Note that no theme for any custom ROM or any version of Android is able to trigger such an animation, leading us to believe that this is – in fact – the real deal.
That’s it for now, but again, we’re always digging for more. Stick with us as we try to get the blueprints of this sweet house laid out before it’s ready to be built.

What do you guys think about it?
i can dig that screen shut off
Would be great
I've saw a guy who said he had Gingerbread on his phone and it didn't look like that so I'm going to be surprised either way.
I thought gingerbread was meant to be a stock graphic overhaul - it looks the same as Froyo to me? (minus the screen off animation)
But the screen animation looks hot I want!
I hope they manage to do screen orientation animation too.
For the person who start the thread: Coño, otru Asturianu en XDA!!!
Looking great
ahhhh leaked gingerbread stuff.. cant wait
Sounds like good ginger to me my Nexus is ready!
Rumors were that Gingerbread would have look and feel similar to stock Gallery app. This is not even near to that

the longer gingerbread needs to come the more i be shure my nexus will be
killed by ROM UPDATES arghhh i am going to be a rommer junkey ;.)
PLease give as G with :
Freee custom desktop like making a homepage screen and all is working :_)
3 D if i want it a cube or else to switch from a screen to another
and please biggggggger icons like in OSX ................Leopard zzooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm.............................!
and lot a new gimmicks please
tx Maurix
Sigh, Gingerbread is looking more and more useless by the minute. I'm thinking even 2.3 is kind of an overstatement, how about 2.2.8
Also, people who buy a phone right now may be screwed out of the real update, Honeycomb.
god dam you guys make gingerbread sounds terrible!
It is only a 10 second video you guys it is not gonna show the whole freaking system.

I agree, I am so disappointed with everyone dishing it so bad... I am excited about Gingerbread, Android picked up the Palm guy so I think the UI will be much nicer, and we are so early in development, that what we are seeing looks just like what we have so I think everyone is talking trash because of that.
I think we will see some nice changes coming

[Q] Development stopped on TAB

hello everyone,
its sad to say but (is it just me) seems as thought developments on our tab have ceased. there have been no beta no news nothing........
its a shame such a potential device.....
ah well......
That is not true. Currently some users are working on getting ubuntu to run on the galaxy ran natively.

There is a bounty on the tab
just wait...
Probably the devs are taking a deep look into the Honeycomb ports. The Tab was made for it and I´m sure as soon as a Samsung Honeycomb Dump hits the ground, We will be using it in no time.
There is currently a bounty on the tab for a modem that allows 3G and voice at the same time. I'm guessing that many of the devs are currently working on a solution to the problem. This is going to take some time and skill to solve.
Another issue is Honeycomb. I'm betting that most of the devs are busy trying to get at the Honeycomb code so that they can begin trying to port it to the tab.
These developers have lives (jobs, families, etc.) outside of developing and many of them can't spend a great deal of their spare time trying to solve issues that the rest of us have.
They'll be here soon enough. Have patience.
Yea don't worry, this device is still popular, and because the new tab is 10.1. So i'm sure many people will still prefer this for mobility reason. Spring is around the corner
wow..positive
wow.. lovely to see so much positivness(is this even a word)
and really hope that they are cooking up something that would leave us WOW.
moments like this i wish i paid more attention in class and maybe learned to program.
as you can see DEVELOPER FOR OUR DEVICE we have faith in you guys...
keep it up.. and we know its stressful with wives..kids...work...ecc
Also a bit of good news from Samsung deciding that their first Honeycomb tablet will be a 10" model likely means the current Tab will continue to be sold for a while longer. If they had released a replacement that was the same size it would have pretty much killed any additional sales of the current model.
Yeah as soon as the honeycomb source hits aosp it will go boom
The development might be a little slower compared to other devices but hey, slowly but steady just be patient.... the tab will rock!
No boom that I heard but the source is available.

The word your looking for is positivity
I think the reason for slow development is due to the price of the device. Especially with the new devices coming out...people will start developing less and less. That's just my guess.

Ah drat. Nobody sent me the memo about development stopping... I guess I'll stop working on getting stock Linux / Ubuntu / Debian working on the Tab and sell it.
Seriously though, at least where I'm from, the Tab is ridiculously expensive (~$1200 or so). Many people simply don't have that sort of money to drop on something which is in my view, essentially a toy. (I got mine as a present from Hong Kong, to be honest I wouldn't have bought it with my own money)

The 10.1 moto tab is a huge and overpowered device (considering what it still CAN'T do that other higher powered portable devices CAN, (ie. laptop etc). It's too unwieldy for a mobile ebook reader but not functional enough to be a laptop replacement for students or professionals (no inking potential, less portability along with a netbook/laptop for support). It's a giant portable media player and Angry Birds arcade machine for early adopters and morons with too much money. As soon as the hype dies down, folks interests will turn back to devices that can run android 3, but cost a third less and are actually portable. **** like the Xoom is worthless until it can ACTUALLY replace the need for a keyboard/mouse/microsoft etc. because half-measures won't work for the masses (joe six-pack just wants convenience). This is the HP-TC1000 all over again.
There will be Honeycomb for the Galaxy Tab. The lemmings will love the Xoom, but the rest of us want function over form.

Xoom slow and buggy

Does anyone else feel like the software was rushed? It just feels so slow and unoptomized? Really glitch and stuff. Especially when scrolling. Do y'all think this will be solved soon with an update or what??

Can you be more specific on what is slow? Yes, I do feel it was rushed with missing features and stuff but I do not think it is slow. The only slowness I have noticed is when on XDA in the browser and typing a response. Other forums/sites seem to work fine. Not sure if you are talking about the browser, some sites, all sites, all apps, etc.
Yeah I feel they shouldn't have removed the beta sign off the Operating System yet. I've had little crashes in the browser and in the camera here and there. Since we are all Android geeks we are accustomed to it. But newcomers that pay $800 for a device would get very frustrated. Just gotta wait for those OTA's.
The one I played with at Best Buy the other day seemed laggy on the home screens, but when I got into an app, everything was so fast and smooth.
I have to give Google the benefit of the doubt here. At this point, I see the XOOM primarily as a platform for developers to get their apps tuned for tablets before the Honeycomb Tablet rush begins. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of Honeycomb ready apps show up over the next few weeks. Also, I would hope Google has an update ready at least some time in March in anticipation of those other tablets that will launch later next month and in April. Having the XOOM out is a perfect way for Google to find bugs that are present in the system. They can do all the internal tests they want, but someone in the real world is always going to find something they missed. Granted, I'm sure they know about the lag and choppiness in the browser, but considering the XOOM was actually being manufactured before the Super Bowl, this version of Honeycomb is at least that old. I hope they're well on their way to an update by now.
Just give it some time.
[edit]
Case in point.
Yea it seems just laggy and choppy. Like the app draw and stuff. Its just annoying lol. Hopefully the updte fixes it

I'll have to agree with almost everyone here about the state of the software.
Though I don't have a Xoom as of yet (its on order), I have had the chance to spend a lot of time with one at work. The biggest gripe I have with it is the fact that it's packed to the brim with amazing technology yet does not perform like it is. I have been able to do what I want with it with no difficulty, but the sad thing to me is I don't feel like I'm holding a Tegra 2 powered device. It's like having a V8 engine in a sports car but only using 4 cylinders, it gets you where you want to go, but its not as fun.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the thing, and I am replacing my iPad with it. We just have to be patient, and confident that Google will come through. Besides, they always do.
it is choppy and laggy and still needs a lot of work. When I compare it to my inspire it is very clear that it needs work. I still love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.
It is a more of question of when rather than if it will be updated. They made the right choice getting this thing to market, you have it in hand and it's real. It might be buggy, but it has it's moments of being impressive.
Dont worry guys. Wait till we can deodex, have custom recovery from Koush, and start work on kernel development. Then we will see what this baby can really do.

Indeed! This + Honeycomb update = WIN!
On a related note, SetCPU has successfully overclocked the Tegra2 to 1.2Ghz, reaching 40 MFLOPS In Linpack...and that's only ONE of the cores!

Thinking here..

So like.. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is a amazing built tablet and all but the little problems that acer has are horrible.. As in sleep wake/off, updates, battery drain by a phone app.. And etc.. Now im thinking about all of this and im thinking do any of you think it would be a good idea to return and wait til the new samsung or toshiba come out? Tomorrow i should be in work and i will be asking my manager if they got a release date on the samsung or toshiba tablet.. Since i work at staples and we should be getting the samsung nd toshiba from what i know.. Now im wondering everybody explain why acer should be kept because from the prices samsung is only a 50$ difference thats not a lot.. So lets hear it? I think the updates and bootloader being locked are my two biggest concerns about this tablet because im a crackflasher on my phone i wanna do the same on my tablet =]
AH! ****.. Somebody please move this to general i thought i was in the general section..
I returned mine today
Loved the tablet bur dreampt of unlocked recovery. I miss it already, hefty tab but so many ports

The will always be "the next best thing" the samsung is nice and thin but lacks ports. The toshiba is a bit of an unknown at the moment, and afaik this is there first step into the android os and cell/mobile market, so even more bugs are likely. I've had 2 Acer android cellphones, and there updates and stability was superb. In a few weeks we will have 3.1 and I'm quite sure most if not all bugs will be fixed. Just look at the bugs the xoom had when it was released...... not even a working sd card. And now there quite happy with there little tablet. The iconia is still brand spankin new, let Acer iron out the bugs....... they will
Yea but the stupid.. Phone and Tele app that eat battery nd mess up updates is freaking retarded.. The toshiba should be coming early june i could return my tablet for a while since i work at the store i bought it from and my manager will take it back so lets see.. Im trying to give Acer a chance since i own a Acer netbook and Computer and both are great.. Never bought a Acer phone but the tablet is built amazingly just what they did with software is horrible..
I was at Best Buy today bringing my A500 for an exchange for another A500 due to the HDMI port was kinda loose, and when touching the cable the pictures/video would go off on the monitor. I'm digging the Acer..
My cousin has an Asus transformer 16gb .... I made fun of him when I pointed out that his Asus didn't have flash, a low resolution front cam ... OH , when I was there, in the same spot where they stock the tablets, I saw at least three or four Motorola XOOM..... all was open box.
IMO .. all I care for is specs...and it seems that majority of the new tablets including the acer has really close in hardware specs, besides cosmetic.
The only thing giving me pause is lack of recovery. I'm used to being able to fix stuff myself. If tis thing goes tits up I have to rely on my retailer to take care of me.
Hmmm...you think anyone from acer is reading this? Love the tablet but hate their support.

You never know on the galaxy s forum a guy named samsung jhon who worked for samsung was responsible for checking out the xda forum, and trying to keep the dev community happy. Of course he was chased out of the forum by all the haters and trolls, but it goes to show this little forum of ours can make a difference if we just keep voicing our discontent about the lack of recovery/locked bootloader.

lmao. So true.
Personally i'm glad the 'issues' are only a little battery drain (still unsubstanciated i might add), the screen popping on for a few seconds maybe once or twice.... what where the other ones? "etc" issues? Yeah, etc issues... whatever those are...
I didn't drop $500 for a toy. I bought a tool and as far as tools go, it meets and exceeds my expectations. Why so many people see fit to hop on and off the train, i think, says more about their personality than the tablet and whatever issues there might be (real or otherwise).
Go ahead, OP, get ride of it. It doesn't want you either. (;

Lol.. The way you put it it sounds horrible.. Lol but no the etc i mean locked bootloader, no recovery, you cant delete specfic apps because if you do and try to restore you get a brick, updates mostly international, and **** like that the acer is built good and i know theres always something new around the corner because i have had android since the g1 days and getting a new phone like every 3 months i know about the new things lmfao so im just thinking on if acer will make it better in the next couple weeks because if they do and they fix everything i would happily stay with acer because right now i dont want to risk anything on the tablet try to do anything because i know theres no way of returning it to stock at the moment if i eff something up i just want that satisfaction that if i **** something up i can fix it myself and not call acer and send it out and have them fix it..
I hear ya.
I don't consider the locked bootloader, personal recovery option and inability to remove pre-installed apps as 'issues'. And, really, it isn't. At least, not for those of us who just use it as it was intended to be used.
Yes, the a500 needs a little tweaking, however it's mostly Honeycomb and all minor. Unlike some tabs that have glaring hardware issues, the a500 leads the pack in quality and consistency. IMO, anyways (; (sure I'm biased but I have played with other tabs)
Don't get me wrong, I see the value in being able to recover on your own (if something goes awry) but in the end, it went that way because of user error (or bad mod, whatever the case may be) and because it was unlocked / rooted - It's no fault of Acer and it shouldn't be held against them or the tablet. Like all other tablet manufacturers, they wouldn't support that even if they did release the key. And in the end, all we'd really get out of it all are more people bricking their tabs, Acer getting screwed over by people lying and returning their tabs - all for the ability to what? Delete or rename a few files? Get back maybe, 100mb on a 16gb tab with microSD and USB?
If some mod came out that flipped HC on it's head and created a user experience that surpasses all others, then, and only then, would I ever consider rooting (ROM hacking etc ((if that ever becomes possible)) Until then, what few and silly 'root req' apps there are and minuscule returns one gets are far too insignificant for me.
But, you know. In the end, it about what you want. If modability is a prerequisite, you probably should have waited. If you take it back, you might want to consider waiting until you know for a fact that all those features are available in the next tablet du-jour.
I get what ur saying.. But heres the thing ive played with the xoom and asus and everything there built great as well just those little features that i wont use like usb support are the only thing missing on those other tablets.. I like root because it can help me get rid of the stuff i dont use and is running the background.. also the custom roms are usually a lot better than what the manufacturs usually release with the hardware.. So idk im gonna wait til the new thing comes out and see what the developers do with it.. Since i only had the tablet for a week nd 2 days.. I have a while to return =]
return it, by the looks of your phone list seems like your indecisive(not trying to be mean) the wake up issue is not a big deal and will get fixed. i get over a days use with heavy use.
if this tab gets regular support will flashing new ROMS really be necessary. i mean on HTC hero chirst that thing needed support there was no way to make it through a two year contract with it.
Now my nexus s theres support on here for it and its great. but out of the box it works just fine

I would recommend a video app called "Stick it" along with its sister browser app "Overskreen." These two apps float over what ever you have open, are resizable and movable and make real multitasking a reality. You should be able to use the YouTube app but also watch any video in a floating window.
Its been a good year. We've really come a long way. Remember when we didn't even have microsd? I got my Xoom on release day and paid $800 at the vzw store. At the time, there was nothing but hate from the media and the Android community. The Xoom got no respect as the premier Android tablet. All of a sudden, with the ics source drop, everybody wants in the Xoom game now. All of a sudden, its hip to be in the Xoom game. Now just look at the EOS thread hit counts. The Xoom is hotter than some major Android phones. We've been in the Xoom business from day one. And we will continue to be for the foreseeable future. This device still has a lot of potential. I was lateish to the tablet game.. admittedly I was very cynical about the whole tablet scene and now wish I was an earlier adopter really.. but after migrating to android due to being sick of apple after a year I was somewhat interested and actually purchased my Xoom from America and got it sent over here for about 500 mainly due to missing out on an auction for a galaxy tab I jumped on this.. its been a good 7 or so months in which time from day one my devices had a form of EOS rom on it and purchased a second for the missus with EOS installed within 10 minutes lol.. what really astounds me is that the xoom has withstood the barrage of new devices recently and I have hardly heard a Xoom user selling up for the next thing like apple sheep do.. which says a lot about the android community for one but also says a lot about the build quality of the device... I'm quite impressed
Going forward personally I see myself either being a EOS sheep providing they tell us Xoom users their plans to migrate to a new device or upcoming device.. or grab the rumoured Google tablet when if ever it surfaces considering the flexibility of GED devices/vanilla devices...

If/when I upgrade to a new tablet I will only consider migrating to one that is under development by Team EOS. I think at this point, it's the development more than the hardware specs that interests me and gives the device longevity and purpose.
We've talked about the next tablet move. The gtab was on the table for a minute. The issue is there's just nothing out there that compares to the Xoom. Even after a year, the Xoom is still on top. I suspect later in the year something new and powerful will drop. As far as official eos support, its likely we will need to see another GED tablet. Having full source is really where the action is.
SLIGHT EDIT: of course the next move doesn't have to be a GED per se. Just look at what Roach has done on the TF! He's a rock star! But personally I prefer a device I can
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Im usually cool about broadcasting my next move. So you guys will know what I got going.

Dude, you are spot on man. I run the same game with my phone.
I'm with my Xoom for like 6 or 7 months, there's nothing I can speak it wasn't a good investment! Paid R$1300 (it's almost US$750, here in Brazil things are VERY EXPENSIVE ) for the 3g version, thought I wasn't never going to root it, then Motorola comes giving for a little more than 1 and a half month the 3.2 version of Android, a little before I was developing LordAIOTool, then I thought
Screw Motorola Brazil! The Ice Cream Sandwich is out and they release only now the 3.2, with no previsions to 4.0! I will root my Xoom and install a ROM, that is better, already did it to my X10 mini pro and I'm very happy with it

Then I did it, waited until stable release of MZ601, because MZ605 and MZ601 are rooted my Xoom, installed TeamEOS v1.0.0 ROM, now running Codename Android v1.5.5, today I will go to TeamEOS umts_everest nightly #58 because of the new features. Actually I use much my Xoom, principally for gaming, tell me:
You are on a bed, with your Xoom on your hands, playing Dead Space, then going to Modern Combat 3 Online and playing World of Goo, then you decide to view a video, exit your World of Goo gaming, go to youtube, search for smosh videos, have fun, after you want to view your beloved thread on XDA, no problems, just open XDA HD Premium and it's done. Now I want to hear a music while viewing your best friends photos on your tab, no problems, open PowerAmp and select slideshow on library. Need to talk to my friend across the world, just open Google Talk, want to see my gf, just use skype video call and use your amazing 2.0mp cam!
See, you can do everything with it! The only thing that make me uncomfortable is that I can't play 1080p videos, if it's fixed, my best friend will not more be ***** (my friend name) it will be Xoom hahahaha
Thanks for reading!

You said that very well! It's real world use, just like you describe, that makes the Xoom so good.

Here's a good one for parents. Sitting at Black Angus getting ready to dive into a Surf n Turf plate with a Long Island. The rugrats are getting twitchy. Pull out the Xoom and put on some Yo Gabba Gabba episodes! That's some real win there!
It is really good to hear all this; I think I am very late in the game as I just got my Xoom 32gb last week, but besides it is old enough to be considered "outdated" so far its been a nice device with a great hardware!

I'm even later. I got mine in on Tuesday. I think it's the best thing I've ever done for the battery life on my Inspire
I'm loving every bit of this tablet, more and more every day. It would have been nice to get the 4G version, but I'm not feeling another data plan. I can tether if it ever comes down to it. I mostly use mine at home as sort of replacement for my desktop.. which hasn't really been touched since I got the Xoom
Guys, you are coming to the Xoom at a great time because we have 4.0.3/4.0.4 official...we have the best development...we have everything working (well, maybe not adhoc tethering, but seriously, upgrade your phone!)...we have the capability to really start to use the awesome Xoom hardware to the max.
