Just installed 4.0.3 but still looks the same as gingerbead?? - Galaxy S II General

I've just installed the ics ROM from Craver UK site. They have a link to download the very latest ROM from the nexus phones. I was expecting the black and blue theme that I've using in CM9. Can anyone help or is this correct?

Not sure what you're expecting here. Samsung does not follow the stock ICS mentality, they will always add Touchwiz on top of Android. If it looks IDENTICAL to Gingerbread, then you didn't flash the right ROM... There are SOME differences between Samsung ICS and Samsung Gingerbread.
and also, this could have easily been posted in one of the multiple pre-existing threads for ICS.

+ any Samsung ICS roms in the wild are only leaked beta test roms .
jje

The black and blue theme is unique to CM roms, it's not a standard on pure ICS or Samsung ICS Most of the look and feel of the Samsung ICS roms are the same as gingerbread
However if you look at the settings it's clearly different from gingerbread roms

Thanks for your comments, I've decided to use Resurrection Remix one instead and its defiantly allot better more stable.
Thanks again.

Should of stuck with cm9, all samsung roms will look like the current gingerbread ones.

lol... i bought a samsung galaxy s2, but it still looks like samsung galaxy s2... y doesnt it look like galaxy nexus?

If all you care about is the looks, then just simply change your theme and call it a day.
ICS is different to GB. Is it better ? Well that remains to be seen.

If you decompile the systemui.apk, in the bools XML I believe there's a part that says use touchwiz UI and it's set to "true". I wonder if this can be changed to false so our phones will use the standard ics interface. I just can't figure out how to recompile it without it force closing... lol

I doubt it's that easy. But hey, who knows! Only problem is they won't package Trebuchet with Touchwiz...

Just install Nova/Trebuchet launcher if you want it to "look" more like ICS. Nova is awesome.

Thats a Google requirement for ICS. It's theme i.e color schemes etc nothing much to do with UI/Menus. Samsung can tweak UI all they want as long as they also bundle the Halo theme along with theirs.
It's been done so apps look same across devices. You won't be able to change some setting and get AOSP look.

Further info:
As an app developer you can choose between "DeviceDefault"-Theme and "Holo"-Theme. So it is up to the developers...BUT the app needs to be for 4.0 if it is for 2.3 the Holo settings meight confuse you phone, this means that the most developers will NEED to use the "DeviceDefault" cause that is what Gingerbread can also handle.

Samsung's Gingerbread didn't look at all like Google's Gingerbread, so I don't understand why people expect ICS to be any different...

I have no doubt that ICS is better than GB period. The issue is how much will they screw it up trying to bring it across to the sgs2.

Gingerbread Leak with Touchwiz 4

Okay guys so i found this but i have found no one mentioning this in here.
http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-galaxy-s-gingerbread-rom-leaks-01136737/
It says it's a beta leak from samsung for Galaxy s but it includes Touchwiz 4. You can get it from inside the link and clicking the pink "in the wild" to download.
If someone can confirm this that's it's actual touchwiz 4 and posts screen would be nice. Plus it will be a good source for custom roms with the new touchwiz .
EDIT: TUrns out it's just JV1 with no Touchwiz 4 or an upgrade to EXT4
That "news" post is full of crap.
The leak they are talking about is the JV1 we all know of.
No Touchwiz 4, no EXT4, ...
Its the first leaked one not new
Ah thanks for pointing it out . Really disappointed now .
Don't worry. It will come at some point.
Maybe not with EXT4, but maybe with TW4.
A lot of "maybe"s
Actually, i think that probability of EXT4 in official Ginger is MUCH higher than of Twiz 4. I'm sure that we will not get touchwiz 4.0 at all.
I think Twiz 4 will be featured im the sgs. Don't forget Twiz is the flagship launcher for Samsung.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Twiz is a flagship launcher, but Galaxy S is not a flagship device any more. Sammy needs to differentiate flagman (s2) from ex- flagman (s1), and depriving SGS1 from newer launcher seems like the best way to do it. I don't care, anyway - only thing I like in TW in comparison with stock Android is a video player with a lot of codecs, and we already have it (only not in Cyanogen... Sigh...).

Tw 4 is not the only thing to make SGS2 diff from SGS. I think we will get Tw 4.
SGS2 is also hardware wise greater than SGS .... that should be enough to go for it.
Galaxy S gingerbread will b tw3
My guess is that we will get TW4... but not officially
Like we have GB keyboards on Froyo.
Anyway it will work the same! Just need to be patient.

It will be much, MUCH harder to port than some KB. With SGS2's RAM and CPU, this thing hardly will ever work on SGS1 (remember, we didn't even get Sense from weak-ass HTC Desires).
if I were Samsung, I won't release SGS GB with TW4.

Samsung Galaxy II rom for myTouch 4G?

The myTouch 4g is a great phone and I know this is possible but I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to port the Galaxy S II rom to the myTouch 4g I think alot of people would appreciate it. If you guys want the rom from the Galaxy S II please reply to let developers know that you want it as bad as I do!!!!!!! :-D If I was a developer I would port it but I cant. Unless someone walks me through it.......Developers please reply Thank You

Do you mean a touchwiz 4.0 rom? If so, I'm pretty sure there are compatibility issue reasons why the mt4g doesn't have any touchwiz based roms. (I could be totally wrong here, I'm no dev, & welcome the correct answer)... But yea, I think that's why we have sense-based roms, cm based, miui...

Im currently looking into becoming a Developer I love the work they make and i would love to become a part in it. I have been with XDA since the G1 days and i think im about ready to start working on becoming a Developer.... So if there is anyone that can help me or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it...Thanks for all the help guys

If you want TouchWiz, you can download TouchWiz 4 pack for MIUI, install MIUI, and install the pack. It might work (and might not).
Use some Google search to get the files. The pack is 161MB. I believe it's somewhere in Galaxy S or S2 sections.
Thanks Jack_R1 is that pack more miui though? Or does it run just like a touchwiz rom? Cause im not that MIUI friendly lol...
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
This is a complete TouchWiz, except for system menus and dialogs.
You can try to install it over CM7, I believe there were reports of it working.
I remember seeing sense ROM's available for Samsung phones that normally ran Touchwiz. I suppose the reverse SHOULD be possible. Though porting a ROM to a phone with completely different hardware that no other touchwiz ROMs are available for would be a pain. No examples to learn from and so on.
Hmm. Any Devs with thoughts?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
It could be done, but it would be very very very hard and time consuming. EDT at one point was trying to port sense to the vibrant, but that really didnt end up as anything, so I would assume it would be the same porting TW to the mytouch. Im sure the right dev with enough time could get a port working.
sorry i cant answer your question but i have an alternative.
if you just want touchwiz 4 and UI that looks like SGSII, here:
1. flash CM7
2. find samsung theme for theme chooser (can be found here anyway)
3. install the theme
4. install the touchwiz 4 from here
5. you done, simple like that.

The same reason people put CM7 and/or MIUI on the MT4G. Maybe he doesn't want the bloated Sense and would rather have a TW4 GB UI that already has hardware accelerated launcher and much less bloat.
With that said, as nice as it'd be, it's not possible. The list goes on in what you would need to put TW4 on any phone that's not Samsung.

Sense is my favorite non AOSP UI as well. But it's no where as smooth and as fast as TW4. Hell, even the new MotoBlur easily trumps Sense speed wise.

Galaxy S 1 or 2? Because there's a big difference. My gf's stock SGSII is the smoothest and fastest I've ever tried, faster than any custom ROM that I've ever tried. There's no TW4 for SGS1, just TW3.
There are custom ROMs with TW4 on SGS1.
This thing will quickly become laggy if you seriously use it, whatever you put on it. Except MIUI.

but it looks very fast and smooth

i agree there, but i think stock ICS may come a little later.
one of the main reasons why im waiting for the samsung official version is because it comes with kernel 3.x (according to the leaks) whereas most of these modded versions are still using kernel 2.6.57.

The bug when changing lockscreen wallpaper is still there

I know where you're coming from, but I think Samsung would get a lot more grief if they fundamentally changed the launcher as part of the ICS upgrade.
Which makes more sense: keep the launcher the same and annoy a relatively small number of geeks (who have the knowledge required to install a replacement launcher anyway) or change the launcher and annoy the much larger group of "regular" users who treat the device as a tool rather than as a toy?
Your right but i think they should keep the look and feel of tw but add some more options to it. So that tw by itself is more customizable and so there is even no need for new and old users to search an alternative
Have been running ICS for a while now.. and it just slow down my device.. Offical ICS = ****
Thanks for the video!

SGS3 rom port to SGN?

Anyone here up for the challenge?
It's been a while since I last ported a rom, and since the SGN is the first Samsung phone I've messed with, I have no idea where to start. Besides, I don't think I could do it alone to be honest.
I'm sure more people want this to happen.
SGN is our abbreviation - "Note" is just one more letter, how about using that?

RocketRom v2 with my SGS3 theme is better. I actually include all graphics except dialer (which I'm working on mind you) Excuse the red lines, was using this image to ask Kalagas something.
Anyways, I wish there were guides on making roms on different phones. I'm not used to the structure of the notes roms at all. Maybe I should start with CM9 source. I've only ever done HTC(dhd) and Asus (tf101).
