I have CM7, Twrp and fff installed. I want to try out cm9, but still want to be able to restore back to 6.22 or cm7. If I do a factory reset as the cm9 instructions state, do I lose this capability. Does the factory reset clear the sdcard, affect the fff boot, or twrp recovery? Thanks for putting up with a newbie question.
Factory reset does not clear the SD card, fff, or twrp. I had a similar question when I first rooted my Fire.

I have yet to go back to 6.22 but I have switched between CM7 and CM9 (currently running Barebones).

Hello,
I have a problem with my NC. I am a CyanogenMod user so when CM7.1 RC1 came out I'd decided to install it.
Befor doing that I had CM 7.0.0. I had a problem with stable version 7.0.3 but I've restored my CM7.0.0 backup and continue to work with it.
So I've dowloaded 7.1 RC1 and intall it. After doing so only a Loadind screen appears at the NC and not CM was loaded successfully. So I've decided to create a bootable SD card - bootable-cwm-clockworkmod-version-3-2-0-1-recovery-sd-card. And to restore my last backup. Unfortunetly I couldn't finish the restore.
I don't know why but because I've had backups of my phone(N1) on the SD card I choose to restore some N1 backup on my NC. It was completed successfully.
It could boot properly with that restore so I've decide to wipe all cache and data and to install again CM 7.0.0. The install was completed successfully but after rebooting the NC was enable to start at all. Nor with a bootable SD card nor without it.
Any suggestions what to do? Another question I have is "Is NC have a JTag?" because I couldn't find any information about that.
Thanks in advance.
Your boot loader is screwed. The only way is to have a ClockworkMod sd card available, and wipe boot, system, data, cache, dalvik cache, battery stats. Everything, in other words. Then flash the latest CM7 Nightly.
Hi, So today i decided i wanted to go back to stock rom because i had a custom rom and custom kernel.
I factory reset my Nexus 4 and now it's stuck at the Google Boot screen. I also have a custom recovery (TWRP). I've tried wiping data (cache, dalvik cache) didn't work. I've looked everywhere but couldn't find a solution for this. Please help. Thanks in advance.
PS. Custom rom i was using was Paranoid Android 9.8
Custom kernel was Franco Nightly.
a factory reset doesnt replace your rom/kernel, it just wipes your user data. you have to flash the factory img via fastboot to go back to stock. anyways, i have a feeling that you made an error in twrp recovery, instead of factory resetting/wipe data, i bet you wiped your whole device, which clears your device of any rom/kernel. so youd have to flash a rom(transfer from your desktop via adb push or flash the factory img).
Hello,
I downgraded my N4 from CM 11 to 10.2.1. The phone boots, optimizes apps but doesn't complete the boot process/starting apps and I'm stuck in a bootloop. Should have done my research before downgrading! What do I do now? I have a nandroid backup from CWM on an external disk but I would prefer not wiping data. Would flashing the 10.2.1 kernel then the 10.2.1 ROM work? How about reflashing [dirty] the CM 11 ROM? Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated deeply. :crying:

Turn off the phone then boot into recovery and then do a factory reset (aka: wipe) and then flash the ROM that you want to downgrade.

Is there no other way but a wipe?
Also, if I may bother you with some questions:
1. Can I do an adb backup in fastboot mode?
2. If I do a CWM backup and then a wipe, will the backup be erased

When you do a factory reset, it won't wipe your nandroid backup. You can do a nandroid backup via adb commands, but it is easier to do it in recovery.

Thank you so much. When I do restore nandroid, is there any way I can selectively choose what segments of the backup I want. Eg. I do a backup NOW from recovery (CWM), wipe, install ROM and then restore selected files or apps ie I don't want the kernel etc. Is that possible?
I flashed CM11 once more, cleared caches, and booted..works fine..I'll backup what needs to be backed up and will do a wipe tomorrow UNLESS I get used to the hideous esthetics of Kit Kat in the interim.
My Nexsus 4 was at 5.0.1 updated OTA, I rooted and installed recovery and created a nandriod backup on the internal SD card. The phone was working fine for the most part except it was having issues with the screen going black when making a call and would not come out of that state. I wanted to revert back prior backup so I did a nandriod restore with CWM v6.0.4.7 and now my phone is in a bootloop. I've tried wipe data/factory reset, also tried wipe cache partition, but still stuck in bootloop. I'm not sure what else I can do to get out of this bootloop state/ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Fixed it by using Nexus Root Tool Kit to flash stock image. Not sure what happened but I'm switching to TWRP. First time using CWM and things didn't work out well for me using it.
I can still boot into twrp but can't get OOS to run. It's asking for a factory reset but don't I have to be in OOS to do that?
You need to flash stock firmware and wipe via stock recovery, backup userdata first
I figured it out, thanks.
