I keep reading about this but has anyone actually damaged their screen from magnets in casings?
I havent used a magnet cover on the galaxy note, but i assume they're similar. And i have never had any problems with the covers ive been using on other phones

Think I read somewhere a warning about using magnet cover on the Note.
So yes, I asume it can do dmg to screen.
is anyone using those magnet cases by tridea or zenus? How long have you been using, and is the screen affected in any way? How about the response to the spen?
The magnets in these cases are usually too weak to cause any serious damage to the phone. But if you have strong magnet, taking it closer to screen does weird stuff to the screen. Even AMOLED screens. Dont know if its affecting the screen directly or other parts that causes the issue, but it definitely has some unwanted effect on the phone.
But I am yet to see any case with magnetic clip / cover causing any damage or unwanted behavior.
what about the s-pen layer in the screen? maybe that is more sensitive to magnets...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
I used a flip cover with a magnet lock before. The thing is that the magnet disrupts your s pen, thus preventing you to write on the screen. But when i remove the cover, its fine. But i have not seen to encounter any disfunctionalities after using the magnet cover

I use the Zenus carbon case for about two months without any problem. The magnets warning is a generic one that you can find also in other Samsung phones. However more specifically in Note if they are strong enough they could influence the accuracy of the S Pen. In the Zenus case there is no problem at all.

Guys,
After breaking my 1st SGS2 I'm a bit paranoid, i broke the screen and really i have no idea how as i didnt put much pressure on it, anyways can anyone recommend a good case to protect the phone to reduce the chances of this happening again?
Would like to purchase something on ebay.
thanks
How about this? http://www.sgpstore.com/cell-phone/...g-galaxy-s2-screen-protector-glas-series.html
Sent from my GT-I9100
I purchased a CaseMate Barely There. It protects the back and comes up slightly over the glass so you can place it face down on a table (if you like, but don't see many people deliberately wanting to do that). The thing is my screen cracked. There was no marks anywhere and not on the top of the glass. Seemed to be underneath.
Not really sure that's the best recommendation I was wondering if maybe the pressure of having it in a case would cause the screen to crack? If not, then I think it was a defective screen. I got a new phone and I'm using it again. It fits the phone well and isn't obtrusive.
Plenty of case reviews in the accessory section .

I would defenitely use a Tough case!
Otterbox Commuter case for Galaxy S II would be my best recommendation. It's not released yet though

Thanks guys.
Perhaps a case my cause even more pressure to break the glass though?
What did you do? mistake it for a nail, hitting it with a hammer? Gorilla glass is tough.
Sent from my GT-I9100M using XDA App
Gorilla glass may be tough, yet my screen cracked. Appeared to be underneath the top part of the glass. I didn't drop it, or do any damage to it. The cracks appeared from the left side of the screen streaking to the right. I've tried to figure out how this happened as there was no marks, knocks, or signs of damage anywhere. One of the things I thought about is the pressure on the sides the Casemate Barely There may have caused as it snaps around the phone.
Just put a screen protector on, a TPU case, keep it face down in your pocket with no other objects in that pocket and you're good to go. That's the way I do it.
Silicon Case from "hama"
Has anybody experienced this?
The pouch I use exposes the micro port, is there any danger of dust getting under the screen?
I kinda hoped the used the same slide cover as on the SGS, I've thought about making a bung to fill it in when not in use, then again I may not have to if its designed in such a way that dust can't get under the screen.
I bet you had a HTC before.
I've had mine since the day it launched in the UK and don't have any dust under the screen and never heard of anyone else having this issue either.
I believe that isn't possible with the sgs2 because the screen is made out of one single layer instead of two.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
The SGSII's SAMOLED screen is engineered such that getting dust under the screen is virtually impossible under normal circumstances. I have no idea how you would manage to do that. The benefit of SAMOLED is having a single layer.
No and its impossible to happen because it was made using only one layer..
If you noticed any blemishes or dust it probably failed on production..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I've noticed some dust inside the objective of the back camera but not under the screen... Anyways, this tells us something about the cheap design of the device...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
The SAMOLED and Digitiser are bonded together, almost impossible to get dust between.
I have dropped the phone quite a few times, and I think the stock screen protector is doing an amazing job at preventing it from scratching or shattering.
Here's the question though.. would taking off the screen protector improve the screen image quality? Especially when looking at it from angles.. hmm..
Surprising that the shatter guard is helping prevent scratching for you. Most people find that the guard scratches far more easily than the naked screen. Yes, screen color contrast/quality does seem to improve with it removed, as well as its ability to register touch inputs. Be aware that if you remove the guard, you risk a higher chance of the screen shattering when dropped.
i still have it on. Even though it has a billion scratches, I DON"T CARe
Don't remove it, it's a vinyl sheet to prevent glass shattering when dropped, i had issues from day 1 with it off, it's like a bad omen, the following happened in order on different days:
1. Scratched more easily (for me) i.e. keys
2. Registered touches at the corners more
3. Dropped and slid across floor, more scratches
4. Cracked screen when it jumped out of my pocket onto a concrete floor
5. Phone laughed at me
I took mine off because it's super thin plastic. I suggest getting after market screen protectors. I got an 8 pack for about $10 and it's thicker plastic

I tried to put the one from the box on, not realising it already had one on. I couldn't do it without getting bubbles in it. Now I know why (It wasn't alcohol after all - maybe). I'd love to take it off to see the difference but I can't find the other one to replace it.

Nice, thanks.. from reading that thread, the consensus seems to be that the screen quality noticeably improves when it's removed.
It's pretty much expected that any additional layer on the screen will change it's properties. For some it's an advantage - for example, using a matte scratch guard will reduce nasty glare. In the play's case, NOT using a guard seems to improve brightness and feel because of the mineral glass vs. plastic film.
Ive been using the play good about a week now and was having touch screen sensitivity issues(when dragging my finger across more than an inch or so of screen space, it would stop registering the touch input as though I lifted my finger up, unless I pressed really hard). Took the stock screen protector off with a pocket knife today and IMMEDIATELY noticed a difference. Not so much in screen quality or brightness but w/o it, the sensitivity issues are gone.
So if anyone's having touch input problems I'd definitely recommend taking off the screen protector

My screen protector is actually hard to remove, is it to others also?

Nope, and will never do that.
Necro.
Anyway, I've been having sensitivity issues with the keyboard. I'm a pretty fast typer and Swiftkey does a great job correcting my errors. When I type with this phone (R800x), it doesn't register every keystroke. It seems like some kind of bleed together and cause havoc. I actually put another screen protector over the stock one not knowing there was one beneath it. Have people noticed improved sensitivity taking this one off?
I'm used to screen protectors from all my other phones (always use Skinomi Techskins), but I've never had this problem. Is it that the screen isn't that sensitive? Or is my problem magically going to go away once I take it off?
Just wanted to know if anyone else had a problem with the S-pen scratching their screen. The tip on mine is very sharp and after looking at my screen in daylight, its got hundreds of scratches all over.
I've had loads of phones and have only ever managed to get 1 or 2 scratches on them, nothing like what I have now. Anyone else have this problem?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
If you have been to the beach or somewhere sandy, that could be a problem. Have sand or grains of dirt in your pocket is often the cause.
My S-Pen has neither a sharp nor a very hard tip. It's normal polymer. Maybe you have a thin layer of fat on your screen and the S-Pen is "scratching" that or like already posted you had sand in your pocket.
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7000 mit Tapatalk 2
Definitely s-pen would not create scratches. Material used in the tip is lighter than material used in Corning glass. May small dust particles may have dragged along when you use s-pen. Whenever use S-pen...just wipe the screen once and use, doing so will avoid scratches.
Still if you feel that the culprit is your S-pen, take a 2000 grit sand paper (widely used for automobile polishing..never go with lower grit!) keep it on glass and roll the tip of the pen gently without high pressure for a minute. This will polish the tip and no more scratches.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
This is pretty common. I've seen many complaints about the screen getting scratched from the tip of S Pen picking up random bits of hard material such as sand etc.
This is why I bought a screen protector to arrive together with my Note.

I have no scratches on mine and I play draw something a lot on mine.
Never heard of this. You press to hard i think.
The S-Pen can't scratch the screen UNLESS you exert an extreme force on it. (e,g, banging the tip to the screen all the time or exerting an excessive force in sliding it.)
I don't think Sammy would have developed this phablet with an accompanying S-Pen, if they know that the latter would just damage the phone in the long run.
Overall, in the end, it would be the user's S-Pen usage that matters.. if you just bang away using the S-Pen on the screen always, then overtime, I wouldn't be surprise at all if you get some minor scratches sooner or later.
It's entirely dependent on how the user cares or uncares (if there's a right word for that) in using the Note with the add-on S-PEN.
IMHO...
I've had a screen protector on my Note since day one. After 5 months I'm now about to fit my 2ND one as the film is covered in scratches and trying to see the screen in bright daylight is painful. I've hardly used my s-pen, and yet my protector is covered in scratches. In my case grit or something else abrasive on my finger is probably the culprit!

You ever think maby the screen protector is softer than the glass itself? I have not one scratch.
Screen Protector though soft helps protect small scratches caused by dust and normal wear tear...i hv been using a protector ever since I started using touch screen phones
It's not the Spen what's scratching your screen, the problem is dust particles that get in the way while using the spen!
I'm using an ugly bestskinsever screen protector just in case!

Obviously the point here is that its better to scratch a cheap and easy to replace screen protector than an expensive hard to replace glass screen!

I'm a pretty heavy user of the S-pen (especially after discovering the game Draw Something!) and never used a screen protector and don't have a scratch on my screen. However I did once notice all these s-pen markings on the screen and after the initial shock i realised it was simply the s-pen cutting through the oily fingerprints!
The s-pen is definitely not sharp to the touch and there is a slight retraction with some pressure. I can't imagine drawing with sand or small particles on it as you kinda feel it as you draw.
The plastic is softer than the glass, this should be possible.
What you might be finding is you have a build up of grease/oils on the screen and the spen is cutting through that.
Give your screen a good polish with a soft cloth, I bet they go away.
From my personal experience, I think the same pen (with a small particle of sand/dust) could make a scratch on the oleophobic coating (fine thin scratch) as in the case of my note. It won't be visible under quick inspection though, but enough bother me so I ended up putting a screen protector on it.
And no, my case is not just grease/oil coz I made a clean wipe before I examine it closely...

FYI 2000 grit sand paper is designed for not shedding any particles... That's why I mention the exact grit specification. These papers are also used for removing hair line scratches on the glass surfaces. And I also pointed that "gently" hope you read my post completely!

I had a scratch on mine. About an inch long. Almost surely from the pen (I had no screen protector). I sold it before I did more damage to it.
Hey basically I've got quite a large but thin scratch on my screen and I have no idea how it got there cause I haven't touched the screen with anything sharp only my finger and the s pen.. So I'm sure it's the s pen that made the mark, but does anyone know how to get scratches out of the screen or hide them? Cause it's really annoying to look at when on a black screen or when the screen is off in the light, also does anyone know a way to prevent the phone from getting finger print marks and smudges off the phone? When I go outside and use my finger on the screen it gets kind of sweaty sometimes and makes annoying marks on the screen is there anyway to prevent this?

Sadly, I think the scratch is a permanent thing
I had a similar occurrence years ago with a bit for debris - probably sand - getting on a stylus and scratching a phone screen.
I wonder if a screen protector, particularly one of the glass ones, would help?
This is exactly why i think gorilla glass is over-rated. I had a light scuff on my screen by day 3 of owning this phone and the only places i leave it are in an empty pocket or on my desk. I bought a tempered glass protector and it covered it pretty well but still pretty bothered about it.
I dont think the rubber tip of the s spen could scratch a gorilla glass lol. The only thing you can do is put a screen protector on it. Over time you will just forget about the scratch underneath. I had this happen before. Never again will I go unprotected on a $700 investment.
