[q] phone not turning on! - GT540 Optimus General

Hi,
After attempting to update my GT540 from 2.1 to 2.3, something has happened to it.
I got to tha part where I clicked launch software update, made sure type and phone mode was correct, it took around 6 mins to finish. Then I kept getting sorry, android dytem is shutting down errors again and again. Turned it off and it does not turn back on again.
Tried pressing home and power, power and camera, not working!
Please help me!

I managed to turn it on after taking battery out but errors kept coming. And sometimes it just would not turn on again.
Used fishears instructions as per that thread and managed to do the first part of the french flasing. The kdz.out just doesnt seem to work, can get phone in download mode but the kdz is just 'not responding' and have to close it.
Also noticed, all my apps from sd card arent showing. Link2sd says needs superuser access, but dont get a prompt from superuser allowing it
and all the preinstalled apps that i deleted using titanium are back again and titanium doesnt even show on link2sd, it does show on superuser though but cannot access it!

Well, I tried doing everything again, this time my phone looks very different like its a factory reset. so all apps are gone, contancts are on sim but thats ok and i had to create a market account again which is good as market wasn't working properly for me anyway, could never download apps even though i had room
Still 2.1 though, now when i try it, it just says phone not found when i click launch software update!
I think i give up!

try to hold power+vol down then put usb in phone and conect other end of the cable into back ports on PC cause front ones sucks,go to device manager on PC and disable lge modem that shoud do the job

Bricked-Unable to Re-install Packages

greetings...i've read far too many threads on not being able to boot into "recovery" and "download" and haven't found anything to fix me...
i can successfully get into "recovery" but when i try to reinstall the packages it starts to run a recovery with Clockworkmod etc...it stops and reboots into recovery...this will go on and on...
now when i try to boot into "download" i can't, i've tried many methods none work.
any help?
rooted/clockwork recovery/nandroid back up prior to trying the vibrant7

sweet...well, not sweet...PM me if you find a fix: i'll do the same, i have a replacement on the way via t-mobile.
for the record, i've successfully gotten in to download mode and used Odin to get back to factory...twice, once for fun and once for resurrection...i don't know what went wrong, except while nandroiding maybe i backed up a bogus recovery rom before i flashed. i can't get past Vibrant, and i don't even see the battery recharge display either when i usb, i'm letting the battery run down to try and get to the green battery icon to try a "download" mode??? i've read of a move while you see the charging screen but i haven't been able to get there... oh well, live and learn. i am also searching for a way to boot from the removable sd card that has a system or recovery rom on it..nothing yet.
also, i've read people discussing newer models being blocked from download...well like i said i've done this with this phone before but i got a new SIM last week and this is the first attempt with the new SIM???? maybe a coincidence...
take battery out, plug in usb to pc, hold vol up n down, replace battery, boom download mode.

yes(but i'm over saturated right now, i might have missed something) ...i'm dead in the water, i can't get to the point of anything seeing my device...my computer won't see it except as unknown usb device, no partitions show up, adb doesn't recognize it in any way...maybe i'm a [email protected], but i don't see anyway to flash it without at least getting in to download mode, or somehow pushing a .zip at the sd for a recovery??? technically figuring out that stuff is beyond my remaining brain cells...this seems like a dicey way for the phone to rely on when restoring to factory.... it would be nice to have the device look at All available partitions, internal/removable, for a recovery system or have an altogether different sd in the phone for a -R dedicated recovery volume....don't know, i'm a noob at this android stuff sooo....

[Q] Lost Superuser permissions

After the OTA update killed my phone, I used Odin to recover and then put Bionix 1.9 on my phone. Everything was good until last night when I tried to put the 1.91 update on. It looks like I have lost root and/or superuser permissions. I ran Clockwork recovery to load the ROM and it booted, let me pick the ROM and then started giving me error messages like:
The application Superuser Permissions (process com.noshufou.android.su) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. And force close.
Now Titanium backup and other root apps won't work. I tried unrooting and re-rooting with no luck. What should I do?
In Rom Manager run > Fix Permissions.
If that doesn't work un-install Superuser and reinstall.
I don't seem to be able to uninstall superuser. It's like I lost root and can't get it back. There is no superuser app listed to uninstall.
You're probably just better off ODINing back to stock and flashing straight to Bionix 1.9.1. There's some releases of Bionix 1.9 that had some issues, you may have gotten a bad copy.
I am downloading the stock image to my home computer now. Something is all screwed up with my permissions.
I am new to the Samsung so I have a noob question, why do some roms only let you Odin and others clockwork install? I prefer using Odin on the Samsung but I don't know if I can install the Bionix that way. Almost everything on the MT3G side with Cyanogen was done through the boot loader. Even on the MT3G I have had problems with Clockworks from time to time.
Can I extract the Bionix file and use Odin? Sorry for the stupid questions I am just trying to figure this out!
Good question. I myself prefer Clockwork to flash ROMs, since I think it's a lot faster and more convenient than messing with Download Mode. As far as I know, Bionix is only flashable via ROM Manager / Clockwork.
It's all about the way they package it. Sombionix must prefer clockwork installs so he does it that way. I always go download mode if I can. Much more reliable in my eyes.

Same here I always flash from Recovery Mode opposed to Rom Manager for flashing new roms.
I went back to the stock rom and now the phone won't come up. It loads the Vibrant screen then the T-Mobile screen finally the Galaxy S and then goes blank. Is it dead? I have tried flashing it back to the stock rom a few times and it looks like it is working. It does give a message that says it can't wipe the data though.
What should I do?

I'm assuming that you've got a decent charge on the phone (>65%) since you haven't been using it. You can get into download mode just fine right? What version of Odin are you running 1.0 or 1.3? Which stock JFD package did you download? This one has worked for me in the past.
~SB
I used the 1.3 Odin. I reinstalled the drivers from the package I found here forum.xda-developers.com/ showthread.php?t=803492
I can still get into download mode. I think the battery is above 65% still. I have had it hooked most of the afternoon.
I had also tried the download you linked to.
I just tried again with the files you posted and the same results. It keeps saying that it can't format the data / do the wipe.

Lemme look around the forums and see what I can find. This phone is pretty resistant to bricking. I'm sure there's a fix for this in one of the few million posts here.
Thanks! I can't wait 7 days for a replacement phone.
Try this thread and see if it works for you. Seems like some people were having the same issues.

I am at the Android System Recovery and it boots with the error like it is supposed to but I can't seem to get the command prompt step. It says to go to a command prompt and run ADB Reboot. Where do I find the A It looks like this DB command at?might work if I can get the phone to reboot.
Edit: I see it is in the SDK.
It's alive!! Thanks SB for all of your help. I have Froyo running. I will leave it there for now.

So i tried to wipe everything but when it reboots it still shows all my stuff that normally would be deleted from a wipe like all my texts, contacts, recent calls... i tried the odin thing and got the same results. the phone has voodoo on it but i cant remove it b.c i dont have cwm i really need help im about to crack this pos in half Thanks
Okay. So you had OCLF and Voodoo installed?

i was rooted in the past then installed cwm and a voodoo this was like 3 weeks ago. Now he just downloaded OCLF and all he did was unroot it... so i smacked him and tried to do the OCR and it does not work. I put the phone into recovery and then wipe everything and it does nothing but remove all my apps and starts on the welcome to android where you would log in to your gmail and when i try that it doesnt work... i think i killed the phone
When it boots do you hear the robot voice?
good day.
no on that robot voice.
Is it safe to assume you don't have good nandroid (before mucking with the device) ? And is update.zip still on your sdcard?
good day.
You should be able to completely remove voodoo, then Odin to stock and re-root from there.
The touch screen doesn’t work properly on Desire
I got the HTC Desire with contract from UK Three mobile,It had a problem with touch screen, It worked normally but sometimes the touch screen didn’t work but it just sometimes. While the touch didn’t work I was difficulty to use with buttons and I couldn’t type on it. So, I sent it back to service centre to repair this problem. The service connect me, they couldn’t find any fault on it. I think the screen happens sometimes and they didn’t found at that time. Now I get my phone back and I still having problem. So I try to change firmware and now I already upgrade to Froyo (2.10.405.2) and think about problem in firmware. The new firmware work on it and it also have touch screen problem sometimes. The problem is so bad and sometime it is very difficulty to open @ (slide to unlock) screen. Please give me some help about my Desire. Thank you.

[Q] Stuck during ROM manager backup (CM7)

Before flashing CM7 7.2 a couple weeks ago, I used ROM manager to backup my current state, and it worked fine, no problems. Once I had CM7 in, I wanted to backup again, but it gets stuck at about 20% across the progress bar. There is no scrolling yellow text. (Just the white carton with the yellow arrow jumping out towards the green robot and the 20% filled progress bar.)
I waited until ROM manager auto-updated from the market, and tried again today. It stalls in about the same spot.
Any ideas on what to try?
My SD card has 4.5GB free, and my previous backups were around 300MB.
You did not install clockwork in ROM Manager did you? You can't use a BML clockwork on an MTD ROM. You are supposed to hit menu in ROM manager, choose manual flash and pick Epic-MTD and Clockwork 3.xxx.

Do i uninstall rom manager for a mtd compatible version? Or can i just follow the steps you mentioned just now to fix it?

Just follow the steps that he said and rom manager will work...

I followed those steps ,and it said: Rom manager has been set up to use your existing recovery installation.
I then attempted to backup the rom and got stuck at the same spot.
I have let it sit there earlier today for 10 minutes. That should be long enough for some progress ,correct?

Yeah it should be done with the backup in that amount of time... save yourself some headaches and just boot into cwm on your own... rom manager can be flakey for some people...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Your SD card might be having issues. Make sure you have enough room for a backup...like 1GB. And if that is not the case back it up and reformat it. Then restore and try another backup.
Thank you, flastnoles11. That did the trick! I tried booting into recovery from ROM manager, but got stuck at the same screen as before. Manually booting into clockwork, and backup from there worked perfectly.
kennyglass123: I had plenty of space, but was thinking the same thing that the card may need formatting. I was quite happy to not need to backup and rewrite 26gb.
Thanks to both of you.

Download mode is press and hold the 1 key on the keyboard then add pressing and holding the power button. If that don't bring up download mode then it is really bricked. You can repeat the process trying popping the battery in and out.

I think its bricked because i cant get it into the download mode or power it on will send it to a service centre an play dumb

You can do that or try popping the battery in and out and then try to get into download mode or try with the battery out and as soon as you connect it to the computer quickly try to get into download mode.

[SOLVED] HELP! Phone stuck in odd loop after boot

I'm on NCG odexed stock, rooted with nova launcher + xposed framework/wanam
Today, I rebooted my phone and was presented with an odd scenario: The phone was looping between my homescreen (black background) and the Galaxy S5 blue geometrical wallpaper (I think I left the TW launcher with the default grassy picture). That's all the phone does - cycle between the two - and I cannot get a screen to stay up long enough to do anything. Of course, I don't have ADB authorized for any of my machines (haven't had the chance to use it yet) and I can't do much of anything. I tried safe mode, emergency call, camera, clear cache via stock recovery, and adb sideload to try and get SOMETHING to run. Unfortunately it seems I'm locked out of my device...does anybody have a suggestion that would allow me to get the data off the internal storage before wiping? >.<
Added video of issue:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_mncUueCJ8
Edit: Solved the issue through the most scientific methods; insanity and brute force! The phone would boot sometimes with the lock screen in the rotation, and those boots allowed me a brief window of touch interaction which I used to enable emergency mode, which fixed my immediate problem of being locked out and allowed me into an adb root shell. Hurrah.
Thanks all,
Overkill

Well, I let the phone run for the last 45 minutes and eventually the phone rebooted itself and the system UI immediately crashed. I'm going to wait for the next crash and see if I have any luck with not pressing ok when this happens, and using that opportunity to allow ADB, which would solve my problem In the meantime, assuming that my hopes and dreams will be crushed, if anybody with ninja hacker skills has any suggestions, I'm all ears (or is it eyes?)

I wasn't able to do this, presumably because com.android.systemui is responsible for this dialog and when it restarts, the problem restarts with it.
what's strange is that i can see my device on windows but the internal storage doesn't mount when the device shows up >.<
would i be able to flash just the systemui.apk and framwork.res files to stock using odin?
EDIT: Was able to get the device into emergency mode after much spamming of buttons and trial/error; this stops the problem I'm having, and I was able to get into ADB. The problem is most likely with Xposed, I'll be able to troubleshoot from here =) Basically, I had a brief window of laggy but responsive touchscreen interaction once out of every 10 boots which I used to get emergency mode enabled (lots of checkboxes) and this worked. It was either xposed or nova or a combination of the two, but it appears that I'm able to hack at it from here xD
