Freezing the OTA silent install? - Kindle Fire General

Hi, I just rooted using Kindle Water and got the Android Market installed. Can I stop the next OTA update by freezing the app on my kindle using Titanium Backup?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

Sorry, I am not sure but I am really interested to find this out myself. I have read a few articles today and there seems to be a few procedures but nothing where someone has said it 100% works.
There must be a consensus among the developers/experienced techies - please let us know.

Yes, I have done it, search got otacerts.zip in this forum.

So is it not as simple as flashing a custom ROM as has been made out in this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23231575#post23231575

Thought you wanted to stay on the stock ROM...
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

Sorry not me, I would flash CM7/CM9. I don't care much for the standard ROM plus I live in the UK so wouldn't get any amazon services anyway.
I don't mean to hijack the thread but the OP hasn't stated whether he would stay standard or not.
People in another thread have just confirmed by flashing a non standard ROM I will not receive any updates

I believe that is correct, if you running a non stock ROM then Amazons OTA updates are not an issue.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

The only ways to stay stock and prevent it are to unregistered your kindle on amazon.com, turn off wifi, or diligently check the cache folder and delete the file when it downloads. It doesn't install immediately and it won't download it again once you delete it

New ota update has anyone flashed?

Has anyone actually flashed the new ota that has come out on a stock non rooted device. I've seen that its floating around although I haven't seen any conformation that people have successfully flashed it and that it works.

It's an incremental, not a full ROM. It should work fine rooted, but if you've altered, frozen, renamed or deleted ANY original files, it will fail.
See I haven't rooted at all and have the version 1.141.07 so it should be okay to update right? The worst thatll happen is it fails to install and I just go back to what I had before correct?

Not if you flash the FOTA when your tablet notifies you, no.

It's a full ROM. When flashing a full ROM, it's always best to wipe data first. You can try without doing that; it might be fine, it might not.
Worst that can happen is you'd have to go back into recovery and wipe.
Do a backup first, a nandroid one in case you want to rollback, and a Titanium one for your apps and data for easy reinstallation.
Hmm, I thought the one on the forum was an incremental to 3.1?

Hi All
I've also got the system prompt to update to 1.141.07 (39.71MB). I have not rooted and have three numpty questions-
1.This I understand is not the Honeycomb 3.1 update?
2.Also I'm in the UK and got my Iconia in the USA- that does not have any effect on updating does it? I mean setting wise?- (dumb but I'm being very cautious!)
3.The Wifi issue people are having with this update is related to ROOTED tablets?
Cheers all
I was rooted and I flash the full from everything is working fine right now!

Just to clarify I'm not talking about flashing the leaked Chinese rom, but the ota released yesterday

ROMs and DEVs

So forgive me for rlbeing "that guy" but I think other people are wondering the same.
I'll try and keep this post updated with links to any ROMs and DEV Twitter/Gootle+/GITHub info so we can keep an eye on development. But first we need to know what DEVs we have on board and any current projects.
DEVs:
Known ROMs/Projects:
timbrendelaz - System Dump (Link Please?)
JackpotClavin - CWM
Remember, most projects linked in this thread are likely highly volatile to flash, so please be diligent and read the thread before using anything linked.
Note: If I'm lacking on keeping this updated and you are interested in taking over the thread please let me know. I want this to be as open and helpful to our users as possible.

I've got a system dump and I'm currently working on a ROM based on that. It wont be able to be flashed easily by the masses without CWM but I know that also is a work in progress. I will keep ya'lls updated on my progress which is slow at the moment because my wife is very pregnant

Is anyone interested in also working on usb cable triggered fastboot? IMO it's the biggest blocker for custom recovery & rom development
possibile alternative is to flash a u-boot that always enters fastboot (just for devel purposes).. well, but really it's jsut a different risk of bricking

yeah i'd be interested in that i pm'd you

Now as far as any OTA updates i want/need, what is the protocol in getting them?
You can't get them on a custom rom
I forget what I read on a custom recovery and rooted--getting older--
I think you need to go back to stock--someone can confirm
I haven't Googled that yet either
There were some rootkeeper apps that were used on my other phones, don't know what works here
I never took OTA's after rooted and flashing my other phones as dev's seemed to have updates faster than my carrier

Generally, the newer firmware versions that get pushed out as OTA updates will be incorporated into custom Touchwiz roms, such as ShoStock and Mint Jelly. However, if you flash CyanogenMod or any other AOSP-based rom such as SlimBean or AOKP, OTA updates will be completely meaningless. It's a different world altogether.
Either way, my advice is the same: Don't mess with OTA's. At best, they could give you the same features as a custom rom. At worst, they could kill the Loki exploit and lock your bootloader for good.
