New ota update has anyone flashed? - Acer Iconia A500

Has anyone actually flashed the new ota that has come out on a stock non rooted device. I've seen that its floating around although I haven't seen any conformation that people have successfully flashed it and that it works.

Would like to know if it can be applied to a rooted iconia or if I should unroot first.

It's an incremental, not a full ROM. It should work fine rooted, but if you've altered, frozen, renamed or deleted ANY original files, it will fail.

See I haven't rooted at all and have the version 1.141.07 so it should be okay to update right? The worst thatll happen is it fails to install and I just go back to what I had before correct?

That is correct.

So just to confirm I wont lose my current data?

Not if you flash the FOTA when your tablet notifies you, no.

Ah I know that, I'm talking about flashing the one posted on the forums

It's a full ROM. When flashing a full ROM, it's always best to wipe data first. You can try without doing that; it might be fine, it might not.
Worst that can happen is you'd have to go back into recovery and wipe.
Do a backup first, a nandroid one in case you want to rollback, and a Titanium one for your apps and data for easy reinstallation.

Hmm, I thought the one on the forum was an incremental to 3.1?

Hi All
I've also got the system prompt to update to 1.141.07 (39.71MB). I have not rooted and have three numpty questions-
1.This I understand is not the Honeycomb 3.1 update?
2.Also I'm in the UK and got my Iconia in the USA- that does not have any effect on updating does it? I mean setting wise?- (dumb but I'm being very cautious!)
3.The Wifi issue people are having with this update is related to ROOTED tablets?
Cheers all

I was rooted and I flash the full from everything is working fine right now!

Just to clarify I'm not talking about flashing the leaked Chinese rom, but the ota released yesterday
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App

Updated with the FOTA- all ok with wifi and seems fine so far!

Anyone?

Unrooting

Can anyone confirm that if u update with a official update, u will be unrooted
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Absolutely, and you may very well end up in a situation where it will be incredibly hard to get rooted again.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
So u recommend not to update?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I wouldn't unless you are having problems with the phone or you are going to send it back to art.

I unrooted last week just to see if I could just in case I had to return to AT&T, it wasn't easy, but finally got it to work. I then used the LINUX(built a LINUX: UBUNTU bootable CD) method of rooting again, went flawlessly; no issues at all.
I un-rooted last night booting into Fastboot USB and running the ATT stock ROM given on the HTC website... finished in 5 minutes. Had to fix something un-related, but it was a good test to see if I could un-root.
Then I just used unrevoked3 to root again; no problems.

I need some help installing roms. I am not new to installing roms, I have been installing roms since I had my T-mobile wing. Then I got a G1 and rooted that as well. I have 3.0.2.4 recovery installed and I am trying to install Viritous newest rom 1.1.5. I have installed before 1.05 and it worked fine I just changed it to another one. My problem is once the phone loads the rom it just bootloops to the white Mytouch4G screen. I have wiped cached and format as well. I haven't wiped the SD card yet. I hope I don't have to.
How long do you wait on the white screen?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Make sure you wipe the dalvik also. How are you trying to to install the rom through rom manager or actually from recovery itself?

Actually just check out the stickies in this section. The first one covers this pretty in depth.

Freezing the OTA silent install?

Hi, I just rooted using Kindle Water and got the Android Market installed. Can I stop the next OTA update by freezing the app on my kindle using Titanium Backup?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Sorry, I am not sure but I am really interested to find this out myself. I have read a few articles today and there seems to be a few procedures but nothing where someone has said it 100% works.
There must be a consensus among the developers/experienced techies - please let us know.
Yes, I have done it, search got otacerts.zip in this forum.

So is it not as simple as flashing a custom ROM as has been made out in this thread?

Thought you wanted to stay on the stock ROM...

Sorry not me, I would flash CM7/CM9. I don't care much for the standard ROM plus I live in the UK so wouldn't get any amazon services anyway.
I don't mean to hijack the thread but the OP hasn't stated whether he would stay standard or not.
People in another thread have just confirmed by flashing a non standard ROM I will not receive any updates

I believe that is correct, if you running a non stock ROM then Amazons OTA updates are not an issue.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
The only ways to stay stock and prevent it are to unregistered your kindle on amazon.com, turn off wifi, or diligently check the cache folder and delete the file when it downloads. It doesn't install immediately and it won't download it again once you delete it

Hey, I have something for you.
as mentiond in the other thread OTA fails on rooted devices Kies works fine though.
Had to reapply CF root after update. Now time to expolore new features and work out how to restore unified search. I don't use it, I just want to stick it to apple.
So is the update good or bad? Should I update?

Future Updates to a rooted phone.

Hello All,
Should I freeze my updater so I do not get any future updates without me wanting them? I heard if you have a rooted devices with a custom recovery sometimes an ota update can not only remove root but brick your phone. If this is so can anyone show me how to freeze the updater?
Thank you.
Kinda would like this information since I'm still using my stock ROM and don't wanna accidentally take any otas
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
well its illegal to automatically update your phone without your consent so you shouldn't need to block anything. However ofcourse you could "accidently" update so its up to you.

If your on the stock ROM and rooted and have custom recovery installed you will absolutely brick your device. This happened to quite a few people here including myself and it took about a day for the devs to get our devices fixed when the first OTA rolled out. So yes freeze it. if your on a custom ROM then you need not worry about this.

What exactly do I freeze. I'm assuming I can use titanium backup to freeze it but I have no idea what to freeze.
