I have a few brief questions regarding unlocking and such thanks in advance.
So I recently bought a new phone and want to this give this phone to my Girl but she's in at&t.Would it be possible for her to use it even though its a T-Mobile phone and she doesn't have a data plan with at&t?
Another question is this glacier is rooted so is it unlock? or is there a total diffieent process to "unlock " this phone? so maybe she can use it for other carrier..
Thanks for any input would be appreciated, good day

1a) this this is a GSM phone, yes you can use it on any GSM network if you have a SIM card from your carrier. IF the HSPA(+) bands are different you will not get HSPA(+), you will only get EDGE/edge signal or lower.
1b) AT&T might pick up that she is using a smart phone and automatically want to charge for for a data, IF you delete the APNs it should prevent them from "talking" to her phone.
2) Rooting doesn't equal SIM unlocking. You can be unlocked w/o being rooted, or be rooted w/o being unlocked.

Are you talking about SIM unlocking ?
Call t-mobile and tell them that you need it. You just have to have the phone for longer than 30days, and have been in good standings with T-Mobile for 90days.
yes i do and is that the only way?

Easiest way - get on the t-mobile website and go into support section. Get on the chat with a rep. Tell them you want your myTocuh 4G to be sim unlocked. They will ask you for your IMEI and for your email.
Within a day you will receive an email with an unlock code and instructions. Follow them - and you are set!
Ok 1st off I'm a noob, sorry if this question upsets anyone, I have looked and read a lot of threads. I have just switched carriers from Tmobile to Verizon. Before anyone gets upset I could not get service at my work on my Tmobile, and since we have a Verizon tower on site it pretty much what everyone uses. Well i'm trying to unlock me MT4G so I can use it with my verizon sim card. I have already rooted and simlock off via gfree. what my next step?

Umm... right.
Completely incompatible networks. Sorry.
There are plenty of nice Verizon Androids. If you don't like the Verizon phone you already have, trade the MT4G for a Verizon Android.
Next step: sell mt4g and get verizon compatible phone.

thanks guys that was what i thought just was hoping it wasn't the case. i picked up a new android today but was hoping to continue using my old one since it was fairly new as a back up. I have both the MT4G and 3Gslide from my old Tmobile acct.
Poor bastard. No wifi at work? Get a verizon mifi and use that with wifi calling. Ha!

I have AT&T and am trading an unlocked HD7 so can I unlock this MyTouch4G VIA root or any other way? I don't have the money to pay for an unlock code.

I hope you know you will not get HSPA+ speeds. The bands are different.
And look in my signature. You'll see a link for ./gfree rooting. It'll allow you to SIM unlock the phone.
Well the guy told me it was unlocked and was for Tmobile and I have AT&T and so I don't need the high quality speeds, I usually don't use my phone for internet anyways. But I do want to know what the difference is between this MyTouch4G section on XDA and the Tmobile MyTouch4G Section?

This is the T-Mobile Mytouch 4G section...?
Only TmoUS carries the Mytouch 4G, though Canada carries this phone, but with a different name. They call it the HTC Panache

Hi you can unlock your HTC by unlock codes it is the safe way to unlock your mobile..for codes you can try Mobileunlocksolutions.com and unlock your mobile.and rooting is different from unlocking if you want to know more about rooting then just visit android.modaco.com where they are discussing about rooting an HTC Hero and if you wish to root your mobile just see the instructions from xda-developers.com

I think he getting confused with the T-Mobile mytouch4g slide section.
so I was given an off contract, paid off, clean IMEI, TMobile locked LG v20 918. from a friend moving out of country From my reading and understanding you need to use the TMobile SIM unlock app to unlock the phone for use on other carriers and in order to use that app successfully you need to be a current TMobile customer with an active SIM.
I'm an ATT customer so I don't have a TMobile SIM handy to try but I tried to do the SIM unlock with my ATT SIM card which did not work. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone and tried a few different ROMs to see what happened but none of those had any effect. The SIM unlock program also wont even run correctly until the phone is fully on stock with a locked bootloader so that's where i'm back to at the moment (on 10j)
Do I have any options other than finding a friend/coworker/etc that has a current TMobile account and SIM to try and use that to carrier unlock the phone? Has anyone had any luck getting someone at a TMobile store to take care of it?
Thanks!

I thought about that but from looking, I don't believe that is possible for the newer TMobile phones that have the Sim Unlock application since you need to use that to unlock the phone.

It isn't possible. The only way to unlock is through T-MOBILE's app.

Appreciate the answers and that's what I figured. I did a little googling on unlock services and there are a few that claim to provide an unlock still via the unlock app route but charge 150 dollars plus for the service so that would certainly be an expensive gamble that really isn't worth it.

Has anyone tried just going to a TMobile store and seeing if an employee will do it?
Have you considered getting your friend to contact tmo for the unlock ? Since its paid off, they have to provide him the unlock code.

Dude just go to t mobile. They will do it for you and if not get someone with a t mobile account to do you a favor

I will give that a shot today over lunch
Just sayin'...
IMO, You might be better off dumping AT&T and switching to T-Mo. Do that, and they'll probably give you a free SIM kit just for joining up.
Your call. Good luck, no matter what.
What did you find out?
I'm looking to buy a tmoble locked h918 and want to know if I will be able to un lock it?
Thanks
PS and you know like trying to stay on the cheap.
I have the Tmo version of the 6T. I was able to flash the phone with the the GSM version (international conversion) and unlock the bootloader and root. I am switching to VZW and I put in the VZW sim and it came up with carrier locked message. Since the phone doesnt have any TMO software on the phone anymore, I thought it would be carrier unlocked as well. Phone is still on EIP jump plan. Any ideas around this without paying the phone off? Sorry for the newbie question.

There are 102 pages of posts. Nothing answering my question on the first page. Simple question. Anyway to sim unlock a phone that was already converted? Or do I have to use a service or have TMO do it?
