[Q] MT4G on the verizon network? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok 1st off I'm a noob, sorry if this question upsets anyone, I have looked and read a lot of threads. I have just switched carriers from Tmobile to Verizon. Before anyone gets upset I could not get service at my work on my Tmobile, and since we have a Verizon tower on site it pretty much what everyone uses. Well i'm trying to unlock me MT4G so I can use it with my verizon sim card. I have already rooted and simlock off via gfree. what my next step?

Umm... right.
Completely incompatible networks. Sorry.
There are plenty of nice Verizon Androids. If you don't like the Verizon phone you already have, trade the MT4G for a Verizon Android.

Next step: sell mt4g and get verizon compatible phone.

thanks guys that was what i thought just was hoping it wasn't the case. i picked up a new android today but was hoping to continue using my old one since it was fairly new as a back up. I have both the MT4G and 3Gslide from my old Tmobile acct.

Poor bastard. No wifi at work? Get a verizon mifi and use that with wifi calling. Ha!

Unlock for other carriers

Hi there,
Sorry if this is a super newb question but I am interested in buying an Evo and using it on AT&T network. Is this possible? If so, difficult? Are there serious drawbacks to doing this? I would appreciate any input.
Just get an Inspire 4G
No, it's not possible.
I would think not, since AT&T uses a SIM card, and to my knowledge, the EVO is only on sprint, which uses CDMA technology.
Cant happen. They have some decent phones coming out soon, I'd just wait.
Sprint uses esn locks so even if you have a cdma phone (such as from Verizon) you cannot move it to Sprint.
At&t uses GSM, like T-Mobile.
Thanks for all your input guys. That does change things. I was considering the inspire but really wanted a front facing camera to speak to relatives over seas on skype which should be coming out for android soon I hear. I am now considering the Motorola Atrix (due out tomorrow). It seems to have everything I am looking for. What do you guys think about it?
Get the atrix if your att
^^Agreed^^
Or you just could bite the bullet and get sprint like we all did....Buy your fone outright from craigslist or something and go month to month.

[Q] Can I lift AT&T limitations from my Legend?

Hi all
I have an Legend AT&T that I bought on Amazon last fall.
The fact that it is AT&T branded means it demands that I have an AT&T data plan in order to use WiFi tethering. This is annoying to say the least since up here in Iceland we have no AT&T. I have contacted HTC and they confirm the phone is open and onlocked. AT&T customer support tried its level best to assist me in "unlocking" the phone with out success.
Can anyone tell me how I can get out of this predicament. I also have an ASUS Transformer that I was hoping to connect to the internet with the ATH Legend.
This restriction also means that I can not get updates for the phone since it wants to connect to AT&T for all that.
Please help.
Olafur.
WTF are you trolling or something? You're probably also one of the unluckiest people on Earth as AT&T (US) never ever released the HTC Legend. It was rumoured: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/htc-legend-coming-to-atandt-according-to-fcc/ , but never.
I'm sorry, but can you try telling us what you did to try and resolve this issue? Most importantly, what interactions did you do with any Icelandic carrier to reproduce the problem? Posting any error massages (EDIT: messages*), or more stories about what you tried to do would definitely help.
Nevertheless, I'm going to try and dissect a problem from your post. You want to activate HTC's Wi-Fi Hotspot. You can't get any updates for the phone. Put those two issues together and you end up with Android 2.1 Eclair. I want you to confirm for me that you have that (Home > MENU > Settings > About Phone). Because if you do, and if I remember correctly, back when we had the Legend on 2.1, and were harassing violently HTC for a Froyo update, we never had Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality unless we rooted.
That's all I can gather from the information provided.
Do me a favour, check at your phone's box and tell me what model your Legend is. Is it A6366, A6363, or A6365? If it's A6366, you have an HTC Aria, not a Legend, and it's a phone NEAR-IDENTICAL to the Legend that was sold down south in the United States on AT&T.
I also have another ridiculous AT&T theory. See, Americans down there sometimes refer to AT&T as Ma Bell or whatever. Bell, (Ignoring the "Ma") could stand for Bell Canada, the carrier IN THE COUNTRY BORDERING THE UNITED STATES that actually carried the HTC Legend. Yeah, it's ridiculous, but who knows? Your Amazon dealer, I'm sceptical of his service now.
Lastly, I'd just love for you to know that whether that phone came originally from Bell in Canada, or AT&T in the States, it won't work on Iceland's 3G bands. Even if you manage to resolve this issue, you won't be able to run on 3G networks. Only the newer HTC devices (starting with Sensation, I believe) are able to run all 3G frequencies around the world (except the Canadian + American AWS bands, only the HTC Amaze can do that). So if you ever manage to get Wi-Fi Hotspot running, you may only use it on 2G EDGE or GPRS, which is painfully slow to browse the internet. You could probably ad-hoc with your Transformer or something, but that's beyond my help.
Good luck!
Love, Bryan from Canada

HTC Inspire
Hi. For some reason my reply seems to have gotten lost. I will repeat.
In the interest of simplicity I called the phone mine, it is my wife's so I do not have it with me. You are absolutely right, this is not HTC Legend, it is HTC Inspire. The OS is version 2.2.2 (I am more or less sure) and because of no AT&T account none of the software that came with it can be updated. The phone does have the WiFi hotspot option but when I select it the phone complains that I must have AT&T data plan and leaves it at that. It does switch the WiFi off even if it can't activate the Hotspot. So, the option is there but she can't use it to connect her Transformer to the net. This is a really strange shortcoming. Why would AT&T care about what plan she has? Without the Data Plan she would just have to pay dearly. That would just be her desicion.
We have done nothing to get the phone to work. It connects to Icelandic carriers without a problem (yes, 3G as well) and without errors of any kind. I did assume the phone was locked when I turned it on for the first time and purchased an unlock code. That code I never used since there was not unlocking required.
I am not sure what you mean by "trolling".
Thanks,
Ólafur
Ok considering your situation you should root it. The process is very simple. It's a one click root.

Here's a video to help: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...m6DWCA&usg=AFQjCNEDETg2nq8rDBQWfKvlh9APF40fiw
It will root, unlock, install clockwork mod recovery, and superuser.
After that flash a rom. I will say I use the Rom called "Android Revolution HD 6.3.1" and can hotspot when ever I want, even without the AT&T account.
Video for that is here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...4dTCCA&usg=AFQjCNE6rGAT6Z8pN9omO8UshYbzAup5cQ
As always I take no responsibility if you brick your device, or if you damage your device in anyway. Hope I helped.
HTC Inspire.
Thank you very much. I will root the phone.

Just a FYI for the hotspot to to work you will need a new Rom. But as I stated in my post above, I use Android Revolution HD. It's a very good Rom. Please if I helped, hit the thanks button.

Yes, avoid any ATT branding with any new ROM you choose. For future reference, use the dedicated HTC Inspire/Desire HD forums here on XDA to assist others, assist in development, or seek assistance.

[Q] Domestic Unlock of Sprint G2

I broke my sprint phone, but I can upgrade to a new phone now on Sprint. I want to use the Sprint One Up Plan for a bit, then leave the contract since I don't believe it has a contract. I plan on using the G2 as my replacement. I want to move to T-Mobile later, and I know the G2 can be used on Sprint. I also have read here that the G2 comes factory locked by Sprint, and Sprint will one unlock it for international use. Is there something that I could flash to the G2 to allow me to use it on T-Mobile when I switch?
Basically, how can I use domestic USA GSM on a Sprint LG G2?
I will at least root and unlock the phone internationally first anyway, since I need to use outside of the country. Flashing ROMs and things like that is not a problem for me.

Is it possible, after I finish with Sprint, I could flash the firmware and modem of T-Mobile's G2?
Would any of those unlock codes for the IMEI work, since it supports GSM?
Thats risky due to the fact that tmo uses different bands than sprint plus the radio waves are different and sprint is gsm and tmo is cdma

Sprint is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM...
Anyway, I know the G2 supports all of the bands, so I don't see why this can't happen. Sprint has just locked away the domestic GSM capabilities. Why is flashing theT-Mobile modem such a risk then? WOuld I be able to flash it back?

Sorry always get that bavkwards the issue is with two things the radio, which you said you could flash the modem no problem. Then the biggest issue is the sim card now im not sure if the sprint variant has a sim card slot. But from what my buddy has told me who is a tmobile phone tech they dont have away to enable your service with out the sim card. For some reason they dont do their services like most carriers and just use the phones imei number to set service. If im wrong im sorry and hopefully you can get everything switched. And thank you for the imformation i did not know the g2 has all bands hidden inside the phone. I was just worried that the radio bands would get you. And to answer your question yes you can always just flash them back.

No problem. If I helped give me my first thank you. I'm going to go to the Sprint Store soon and see what they say. The Nexus 5 seems to be compatible with any carrier, but I like the G2 just a bit better. Sprint has a help topic regarding replacing the SIM , so that is not an issue. Hopefully someone else can tell me if the G2 can have a different modem flashed.
I don't want to take any unneccessary risks flashing, because that is what broke my last two Sprint phones lol.

So where do I get the files? And can you confirm this has a good chance of succeeding?
It will not work.. Sprint doesn't unlock the phone for domestic US GSM carriers and the 2 models for Sprint and T-Mobile are completely different. You flash anything like the radios and you'll have a massive brick. If you want to move between carriers, get the Nexus 5.

As far as the files go I can search here for a thread. And I'm sorry man I will not confirm for you the chance of success because any thing can happen but before you do any thing I recommend you talk to both sprint and tmo in your area
You will not get domestic GSM service with Sprint atm. Hang it up until a solution if any will come. Even after that, it will never be fully compatible with Tmob bands. I love/hate Verizon.

[Q] Sprint S5 can be used on T-mobile?

Just got a Galaxy S5 from a vendor for free but with Sprint. I'm on t-Mobile, is there any way to make it work with t-Mobile by chance? Sorry haven't rooted or ROM'd a phone since my good ole days on the HTC EVO. I tried to search the forums, apologize if this has been asked and answered.

If it supports the LTE bands that TMO uses, then go for it.
Check out gsmarena or some other sites to compare which LTE bands it supports and for which bands TMO is using.
But its quite likely it does NOT support all LTE bands, if any.
i dont think it can
unlocking it only lets you use it internationally

I tried putting my SIM card in, says Not Valid SIM. I'm guessing i could probably get around that somehow but i don't know if all the LTE bands are supported. I'm busy with work but if i somehow figure it out i will post something. But i guess i should start with the radio's as suggested.

Possible to use a Sprint HTC 10 on Verizon with unlimited data & hotspot?

Hi all,
I didn't see anything from reading through the forum on using a Sprint HTC 10 on Verizon. It sounds like there's been success with Tmobile and AT&T.
So far, this is what I've found:
-Sprint HTC 10 should have all the LTE bands necessary for Verizon
-Sprint HTC 10 needs to be sim unlocked before anything can be done
-S-Off + root are required for any potential workaround for Verizon, as the appropriate radio needs to be flashed
How far off base am I? I am intrigued because I am on Verizon and I'd like to take advantage of the sprint HTC 10 sale that's supposedly going on right now. Thanks in advance!
I have the same question. I'm trying to jump on that but for T-Mobile. I'm just worried I won't be able to get the device unlocked.
Historically, Verizon and Sprint don't activate each others' phones. They're the two big CDMA carriers that don't use SIM cards, but activate by ESN directly. But there are always those who get lucky.
? anythin
I've been working on that recently. I actually want to be able to switch between Sprint and Verizon.
Sprint has to activate both the phone and the SIM. Verizon has moved to just using SIM cards. I've been able to move a Verizon SIM between devices and have everything work, even on devices that aren't official Verizon devices and even some that only support part of the bands Verizon uses and work on the ones they support.
With the HTC 10, I've been able to get S-OFF and unlock the phone myself since Sprint wouldn't do it. When I put in my Verizon SIM, it recognizes it but for whatever reason is unable to connect to anything but 1X Roaming (probably on Sprint but it won't say). Poking around in CDMAtool hasn't helped much.
I'll update this if I ever figure it out.
Any updates? I'm curious myself. I have the Sprint HTC 10 and am working on finding an MVNO that I like, some of the Verizon ones are tempting.

By perfectly do you mean volte and Wi-Fi calling are working for you? If so please point to the guide you used. I can't find where anyone using a sprint 10 has gotten those things on T-Mobile.
I would be surprised if a sprint 10 used on Verizon would have that work too but haven't seen any mention of it.

I unlocked the bootloader and installed ViperRom, picking the US Unlocked version as my device. I have working VoLTE, but not wifi calling. (Note, this is on Mint Sim, which uses the T-Mobile network)
yeah it would be great if someone could give a for sure answer to this. I've found a lot of post giving conflicting information all over xda and r/htc10 about this. I would love to buy a used sprint htc 10 (seems to be the cheapest version by far) and use it on a verizon mvno, but until I know for sure it works I' not going to do it.
