[Q] App not compatable with my a500 (ics) but is with honeycomb - Acer Iconia A500

Hello, I have just upgraded from 3.2 to ICS 4.0.3 (taboonay) and I have just tried to install the new MLB.com at Bat application but through the market application it says my device is not compatible. I then went to the store via the website and it says the app is compatible for some of my devices. It lists my phone as compatible and Acer a500 (last used Feb 2012) as compatible and Acer a500 (registered Feb 2012) not compatible. I assume the compatible a500 was the one running 3.2 and the newly registered not compatible a500 is the 4.0 version I have just installed. I tried to send it to the compatible a500 but it never arrived. I tried another app that was compatible, with the (registered Feb 2012) a500 and that was successfully sent to my a500 running 4.0.
So the question is why is it not compatible with my a500 running ICS? The app says its compatible with all versions of android above 2.2 I think it was and was only released yesterday.
Can I do something with my build.prop to bypass this and get the application installed? There is a free lite version of the app available if someone wants to try it out for me on their rom.
Thanks

Not sure about the fix but I do encount similar. You could always side load it. Load it on your phone then use something like Astro to back it up. Then sideload it on the acer

They haven't updated to ics email the dev and ask when. Loading a backup from a hc rom will work most likely

google the app on your tablet, click the market link and choose open in market. it should let you install it, i do it for a lot of apps not available in my region.
on the other hand, just side load the app. its pretty easy if you have a file explorer installed.

All of the above is true.. But to me the simplest way is BUY PAID Version of Ti backup.. do a backup right before you flash your tablet. Be Sure to go in Preferences and change the default backup location to SD CARD. after you flash the device you can restore all your apps from the backup. this is awesome for games and gps such as C0-Pilot that are huge files to download.Remember to reboot after restoring a full backup. Ti often does not tell you to do this. By not doing so it can cause data corruption on some larger files.
Hope this helps someone .

i cant open gta3 in ICS

I am using Flexreaper R5 on my A500 and PAID Version of Ti hangs on both restores and backups in batch mode. I tried all the fixes that I found on XDA including what you suggested and the Terminal Emulator script. I have been able to restore some apps with data by doing them individually but even then some apps just hang. Luckily I had used App Backup/Restore to backup all my apps but, of course, no data. I am bummed, I have ICS but no way to reliably backup my apps WITH data.
Oh well that is what happens to early adopters. I will live with it until a solution is found.

Ti backup updated this morning on my tablet. Try again with the new update. I did not look at the change log so have no idea what the update fixes.

To the Game players, when trying to run games on a BETA rom, I would suggest 2 things.
1. Stay with HC 3.2.x
2. Solve your game issues

Tried with TI 4.8.1.1 with no change in performance. Still hangs on both backup and restore in batch mode. Was able to backup a single app with data. Civato says he has solved the TI problem in R6 so I will just wait for R6.

Unfortunately a lot of apps out were built for Froy/GB and ported over to HC which did not support a lot of previous apps, so sadly, devs have to port apps over again to ICS and rework some things to get it all up and working again.

[Q] Show manual installs in Market ?

I like most of you try various Android builds.
I always backup my Market downloads with Astro or ES File Explorer. They get placed into the /sdcard/backups/apps folder. Sometimes I install them for a new build by placing them in AndroidApps folder, or later using the File Manager Apps again.
At the moment Market only shows new downloads for that particular build. If my manually installed Apps showed up then Market would actively detect upgrades for them. How can I get Market to recognise that I have installed them ?
If backed up with titanium backup pro there is a function called market doctor that relinks the market to installed apps.. Only thing I can thinks of.. Maybe some one else had ideas..
swyped from my HD2 Android
I did this too and after setting up my phone I went to the settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all (sorry if this path isn't spelled likethat, I'm using my phone in German).
There you have to search for the market. Then delete all data. Be sure the market is killed before. Go back to your market and accept the terms of use. Now let it load till it's finished. Go to downloads and let it load again.
That solved my problems.
Cheers
It worked! Thank you very much for the great advice
I can't do this in 'Gingerbread'. Is there a workaround ?

Try the market doctor in Titanium Backup, don't know if the free version supports that tool. Got the paid one..
Market Dr is in the paid version, but requires it to have been working in a previous backup. So, no good for us flashing roms all the time.
Any other ideas ?
yeah been having this issue which is making me not too excited about flashing roms all the time. hoping to see a work around soon or might have to get the titanium backup pro

Hey bestialbub, Also did the new update + your gapps update. Everything I used from market works great. One game "Crazy Snowboard" seems to have a ornamentation problem but I think that its a app problem because "Penguin Skiing" , a similar game, works fine. This Gapps update is a great alternative for people who want or need the OFW firmware updates from Elocity but don't want to wait for Dexter to update his mod's. Great work!!! I will be ending you a donation.
Recommendation for "gapps update:
Adding a backup and restore app like "Titanium Backup" as part of the gapps update so I don't have to reinstall from market every time I do a an update.
Recommendation for "Elocity updates:
Elocity needs to fix the way the sdcard is mounted. Sd card should be more compliant with android 2.2 standards. Right now system backups and apps are stored in "storage" folder. OFW updates and "wipe/data factory resets" reformat/destroys all data on that partition and there is no system option to backup to the sdcard (ie., sdcard-disk0.) This is a problem when you are providing all these OFW updates. I have to use a market(not included) provided app to backup my app and another app to move the folders from "storage" to sdcard. That makes no sense.
For some reason i dont have adobe flash and Asphalt 5 still cannot load these two option alone for me make me revert back to dexter mod...
just got off the phone with elocity and mention my gripe with this firmware
i mention to them about dexter and bestialbub who is helping us elocity owners, they guy there say only appoke a gapps apps will work with their firmware...
i believe i did see adobe flash listed in market for update/installation, which is going to be more updated than what would come preinstalled. otherwise i'll check to see if inserting gapps into the system image causes any initial setup problems, as the preinstalled adobe flash is installed on first boot, i think even to the user data partition, so this shouldnt be an issue.
all other non gapps issues are likely rom specific and still awaiting my inspection. recovery is next on the list.
regarding manufacture support or statement against software not supplied by them; they obviously wont support it. most manufactures would even recommend against it; except these new tablet manufacturers are skirting support and linking directly to xda forums for support; so they cant straight nay say solutions promoted here. they cant endorse them either.

I downloaded and installed flash 10.2 from market without any problems. Tested the installed version here http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/. "Asphalt 5" seems a little complicated to install right now but looks like a nice game. I might try it myself if I can get the files together.

How to uninstall docs to go

Ok, I just used iconiaroot 1.3 to get root. how do i unistall docs to go? i cant find anywhere where it says uninstall.
Dont do it
For some strange reason still unknown to us all.Acer decided to put Acer installed app checks into there updating system.I however am not sure about docs to go but removing any software that was preinstalled on your iconia.could in fact cause future updates to fail.
You can use titanium backup to suspend apps from running. It may be safe to use it for backup. Then uninstall. That way you may be able to put it back if it does stop a update
Hope this helps.
thanks, erica. that sucks though. that was really the only reason i rooted was to try and remove that software so I can put my amazon copy on. i dont want to go crazy installing new roms on here like i did with my HD2, cause...honestly, the way my acer is pretty damn good for what i want. guess i'll just deal with it for now.
If you don't mind me asking what's the difference between the amazon copy and the acer one?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
the amazon one is the full copy (cheaper than android market), the acer one is only trialware
Do you mean the key apk?

Problems with Market

Is anyone having problems downloading apps on the market? I have no made Any market updates, and yet it seems to be giving me problems constantly, im failing to download anything i seem to come across.
If i log onto the market on my desktop and click it there, it will send to my tablet, but for some reason i get Error processing purchase when trying to do so on my tablet.
Im on Honeyvillian Kernal 3.4, as well as CivatoMix3. Any help would be appreciated.
I installed the new 3.3.11 Market, even if it was said to be unstable for Honeycomb tablets, and i can once again download apps. Guess i deal with it being unstable..

I use the 3.1.6 market, its optimized for HC and I havent had any problems.
i also got the same problem with this message and after some google search i did the same as you.upgrade to 3.3.1.1 solved this.have never use 3.1.6 though
anyone knows why my tablet doesnt show up on my google account so i can send apps from market using my pc?
thanks a lot, hope you dont have a problem that im using your topic to ask for this..
p.s HoneyVillain 1.2 rom
If you have issues with the Market app, and doing a regular upgrade doesn't fix it, then..
Using Root Explorer, Delete the current vending.apk
Copy the new market version.apk, and rename it to Vending.apk.
Check permissions as they have to be the same as other files.
Reboot device
Go to app manager and force close, and clear the cache
Should work fine then.

[Q] Android market keeps reverting to phone version

I recently updated my Iconia a500 to the lastest update(unrooted). Since then the honeycomb market first appears when i open it, however if I try to install an app it stays at waiting to install...if I go to my apps from the app it opens it in the pre honeycomb version which is presumably the phone version. After that the honeycomb version is nowhere to be found untill I reinstall it. What might be the solution to this?
Thanks in advance for your help guys.
Has your tablet always been stock and unrooted..
Did you install the new market on the tablet before acer updated your tablet to the new market.if So where did you d/load it from.. There is a market .apk on the internet that has something wrong with it that causes this.. It installs on your tablet. Not replacing the original Market app. This was asked alot back when the new market first came out.
you can go to where the aps are system/apps and see if there is more then one market app. delete them both .
i went into settings then privacy .untick the backup account and automatic restore data this stops google from restoring data files for both market apps .then find a Legit verson of the android market apk..
Do a search on google for this issue to get step by step instructions. I am writing this out of my memory and it could be a bit off.

Thanks for your reply, my tablet has always been stock and unrooted, and for as long as I can remember has had the honeycomb market interface. Under manage applications there are two instances of the android market, the honeycomb one which can be uninstalled (uninstalls itself when I open the older version also) and the older version which doesn't have the option to be removed only remove updates.
im guessing the one that you can remove is a app that you installed..
I suggest you backup your files. to sd card..
Go to
settings
Privacy ..
and at the bottom you will see factory reset.. this will reset the tablet to total stock and remove the apps that did not come factory installed..
this should fix this issue.. for some reason a update did not remove the old market app or you installed it not knowing or forgot you did so...
Thanks for your help was hoping there was some other solution....I'm considering rooting it and installing a custom rom like what i did with my HTC sensation... once again thanks!!!
unfortunatley this need ROOT privilages.
Download "Market 3.4.4.apk" install with any File explorer app.
It's tuff to make the Market find outdated apps sometimes!
Doubtful : maybe there is a way to have a "market 3.4.4" made into a .zip file, rename to "update.zip" and boot into your stock recovery and it will add in ROM.
