How to uninstall docs to go - Acer Iconia A500

Ok, I just used iconiaroot 1.3 to get root. how do i unistall docs to go? i cant find anywhere where it says uninstall.

Dont do it
For some strange reason still unknown to us all.Acer decided to put Acer installed app checks into there updating system.I however am not sure about docs to go but removing any software that was preinstalled on your iconia.could in fact cause future updates to fail.
You can use titanium backup to suspend apps from running. It may be safe to use it for backup. Then uninstall. That way you may be able to put it back if it does stop a update
Hope this helps.

thanks, erica. that sucks though. that was really the only reason i rooted was to try and remove that software so I can put my amazon copy on. i dont want to go crazy installing new roms on here like i did with my HD2, cause...honestly, the way my acer is pretty damn good for what i want. guess i'll just deal with it for now.

If you don't mind me asking what's the difference between the amazon copy and the acer one?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

the amazon one is the full copy (cheaper than android market), the acer one is only trialware

Do you mean the key apk?

[Q] So... how do we install the new Market?

Some of you will know that Google has released an updated Android Market. The original thread can be found here.
Now, how would i go about installing it on my tab when we still have no ability to flash .zip updates?
download the apk and run it on your tab all done.
Lordao
so i dont need to replace the original?
edit: just replaced the original, works perfectly thanks!
Got the update from applanet
Check the themes and apps section. Already posted the apk and how to install.

Or just wait a few days and it'll update itself automatically.
And if you don't like it, just go into Applications/Manage Applications/All/Market and Uninstall Updates. That'll roll you back to the Market version that was on your particular ROM.
The new Market just ain't thrilling me yet. For one thing, it's bloody SLOW, slow to load, slow to transition, etc. It's also more cumbersome to use, especially when updating applications, the button spacing is a mess, the "more" to see more application info is a mess (they should hide the comments instead), and the recently released "similar" tab is absent.
I'm sure it'll get better, but I prefer to keep the old, fast version for now.
I have a question: when I installed the new market (by launching the APK), it is listed under 'Third party' in Manage Applications. Is this how it really should be (compared to getting the official version from Google in a few weeks)? Not that it matters..
Got mine from applanet. Works like charm. No Hiccups.
I remounted /system rw, and replaced /system/app/Vending.apk. Works like charm.
I have also replaced other Google apps this way (Search, Voice Search, Google Maps and Street View).
Another way to replace your ROM version is to just install the APK from the SD card by clicking on it. Now fire up Titanium Backup and go to the Batch process called "Integrate updates of system apps into ROM" This works real slick and is really easy.

how did you replaced the other Google apps (gapps-mdpi-20101211-signed) . I had download as a folder....the new Market I have already installed and is working, but it was a simple .apk....can you give me some hints? my tab is already rooted. thanks in advance
Today morning opened up market, got notified that a bunch of apps could be updated...clicked update all...marketclosed and everything installed fine...but SURPRISE...the market too has gotten updated to the new one on its own!
Guess google is pushing out a silent update of the market to the devices...huh...

You have to remount your system partition read/write and simply move (copy/delete) the apks from /data/app to /system/app (they have different names in /system/app, so Market is com.android.vending-1.apk or something in /data/app and Vending.apk in /system/app)
Or you can use donate version Titanium Backup to do that.

[Q] what are the advantages and disadvantages of rooting and are there any risks?

Could somebody please tell me what the advantages and disadvantages of rooting the flipside are, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, are there any risks??
Will I be able to take of all of these ATT apps?
Will I be able to move my apps from the phones memory to the SD card?
Can the phone be unrooted?
Will all of my apps still work?
What is the best route to root? I have the z4root.
I am much indebted to anyone who will answer these questions. Thanks.
z4root will work fine, it's nice an easy to use. Rooting won't give you an easy way to move apps to the sd card, but you can remove the AT&T (and other system) apps. You can either do it by hand, or with any number of apps on the market. I prefer titanium backup, personally. All of your existing apps will work, there's no change there.
The only real disadvantage is that you'll have the power to screw up your phone. You can potentially screw up bad enough that you'll need to reflash the stock .sbf file. Generally, this takes some real screwing around, but just thought I'd point it out.
Thank u for your thourough answer. What do you mean by screw it up. How could I do that and how do i avoid it. Are you saying by virtue of the fact that i'm rooting that i'll screw it up, or it's something that i may do afterwards that may do it? Thanks.
also, are there any other advantages to rooting other than taking off the apps?
The act of rooting itself shouldn't screw anything up, but having root means you could possibly do something later that would. Generally, you'd have to be messing with stuff you have no business messing with. With root, you can remount the system directory as read/write, and then end up deleting or modifying a file that won't let the phone boot, which means you'd need to reflash. Stay away from the command line if you don't know what you're doing, and don't grant root access to apps you don't trust, and you're reasonably safe.
Other than removing system apps, like the AT&T garbage, you can also backup and restore apps and their data, which is great for if you need to reflash, if you switch phones, etc. There's not a TON of stuff that requires root, but honestly, removing the AT&T junk is definitely a good reason to root, the phone feels much faster after scrapping a lot of the blur and AT&T stuff.
I'm assuming then that any android/att/Motorola updates will not be problem either? BTW, do you if and when Motorola will bupdating the flipside to 2.2? Thanks.
There shouldn't be any problem updating with an official update if/when we get one, but you'll need to re-root and remove the AT&T stuff again. There's no word on when we'll get 2.2, but I'd assume we'll get it at some point.
Ok. I just rooted! Yeah, it worked! But i cannot figue out how to delete the att bloatware. I go into the apps manager and click on one of the att apps, and there is still no option to uninstall; only to clear the cache. Also, I downloaded the titanium and I cannot figure out how to do it from there either. Plus, I still had to sideload the titanium which i tbought that i would not have to do once i rooted.

You need to enable Unknown Sources before you can install non-Market apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867637
This is also an example of how you can mess up your phone by having root access.
That is part of the problem that i do not have that option in two.one. that is why i had to sideload all of those programs. are you saying that i screwed up my phone. i tried clicking on the link but this googlw ad comes up and i cant get past it.
Ok, i got through to the link. But the guy seems pretty shaky as to whether you should follow his instructions. Is this legit or what?
Maybe one of you guys can help. I'm new to alot of this but my last droid x was rooted and it was great I used z4root worked perfectly. But now I have a new X and a z4root apk. On my laptop, now what? Last rooted X, I was fortunate enough to catch z4root on the market, like a day before they updated. HELP!!!!!

There are instructions in another post in this forum on how to enable Non-Market Apps, also known as Unknown Sources. With Titanium Backup, make sure that you grant it root permissions when it asks, and that it says something like this on the overview:
Root access: OK (BusyBox 1.17.2 from system)
HyperShell (FAST!): YES
Fast/Auto app install: Yes (using HyperShell)
SQLite: YES (SQLite 3.7.2 included)
Then just click on Backup/Restore at the top, and you'll get a list of all your apps. If you don't have backup/restore at the top, your sd card isn't mounted on the phone, unplug your usb cable and hit Menu > More > Reload application.
From Backup/Restore, you get a huge list of all the apps on your phone. Just scroll down to the AT&T stuff, tap them, and click uninstall in the top-right corner. If you're not sure if you want to uninstall something, because it might belong to something important, click Freeze instead. Freezing will stop the app from running, and stop it from showing up in your tray, but you can easily unfreeze it to restore it if it turns out it was important.
Here's the list of stuff I have frozen/uninstalled:
AdService 1.0
all of the "AT&T" apps
all of the "com.motorola" apps
Data Manager and Data Manager Service
Help Center
Home (I use ADWLauncher, don't remove this if you don't already have an alternative launcher installed)
MediaSync
Mobile Video
all of the "MotoBlur" apps
My Uploads
Phone Portal
Quick Contact
Social Messaging, Social Messaging Service, Social Networking, and Social Status
Sticky Note
Video Editor Lite
Vlingo Voice
Weather 2.1
WHERE
Work Contacts
Mobile Banking
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Kodak Perfect Touch
AT&T Address Book
Quickoffice
YPmobile
As for enabling unknown sources, it's a bit of a pain, you'll need to be comfortable with a command line to do replace the files, and comfortable with a hex editor if you want to edit your own instead of reusing someone else's files. I managed to screw up my phone in the process and had to completely reflash and start over, it wasn't fun.
His instructions do work, but his .sh file doesn't work, you'll need to paste the commands one by one into your command prompt. I preferred to edit my own files, so I wouldn't have the same market ID, and that's just slightly more complex. I can help you through it either way though, just make a post over in that thread if you're having problems.

You just need to get z4root installed on your phone, it should be pretty straightforward. The Droid X shouldn't be blocking non-market apps, so just download it from your phone and run the .apk to install.
So do I hook my phone up to my laptop, and put the apk. on my sd?
Or download the apk. directly to my phone from the site?

I found the link, but the directions are too complicated for my novice understanding of technology. It looks like I am stuck. I don't want to try what he's saying and take any chances. Are there any other alternatives? Or do you have any other suggestions as to how to make the most of the space that I do have with the att bloatware, because I am constantly running out of room. It is a strange phenomenon that I don't understand, that when I turn on the phone it will have around 40mb to play with, and after a few hours it is down to 16 and then 10, and then before I know it, the phone is telling me that my memory is full. So then I reset and it's back to ~40 again. Do you have an explanation? Thanks.

hi, just got this phone for my son. wanted to update to android 2.1, had to jump thru hoops just to get to the update service. tried to download and install back and restore on the phone no go. it wont allow me to install other than market place. its stupid that this app is not already installed. is there another app i could use to backup the phone before updating? thanks. btw, sonyericson's site really sucks!!!
So you posted a thread just to tell us this?
I'm curious, what kind of hoops did you have to jump through to get the update service? It's rather easy to download the Update Service app via their website. Actually, I've found Sony Ericsson's website one of the easiest to navigate. The Backup & Restore application COMES preinstalled with the phone, atleast that's how it was when I got mine with 1.6.
*sigh*

Are you in the US by any chance? If so, you won't find 2.1
And market should already be installed - you probably did something wrong during the update process
You must be on At&t, right? My At&t x10 didn't have backup and restore installed on 1.6 and no 3rd party apps either.
Are you in the US, then? Hope you don't plan on updating with SEUS... We will NEVER get it here
You can get past the install block by using Sideload Wonder Machine- 2nd post HERE, linked you to the thread to cover common problems...
Or just search backup in the market and find another app...
And then once you backup you can flash to 2.1 with Androxyde & Bin4ry's flash tool. use x10a generic build 2.1.A.0.435
the phone kind of sucks as it is when you buy it. especially from at&t. as i did.
but once u get into things on this site the phone is completely awesome.
and does not need any more bashing lol
we are more than happy with out modded x10's.
sorry
hi, sorry i forgot to say it is an at&t phone. i have sideload 1.0, i copied backup and restore to my hard drive, tried to load it with swm, but would not allow access. i'll try market place and use a different backup app.

First, if you just got it then there shouldn't be much to backup. Update to 2.1 and treat it like a new phone. Second, if you got it from AT&T your X10 is branded AT&T meaning they have put all sorts of restrictions and blocks on your phone. The one you are dealing with now is blocked access to non approved apps. Basically AT&T has pay services that they want to force you to use.
You need to forget about SEUS or PC Companion for now. You need to use the X10 Flash Tool 2.6 and flash x10a global generic firmware 2.1.A.0.435 found here on xda. This will debrand your phone lifting non-market app restrictions (you still have to check "allow non-market apps" in settings / applications). This will also give you the latest 2.1 update, including dualtouch. You can also use the flash tool to root your phone, giving you even more control to modify your system and remove the preinstalled junk apps you don't use that slow down your device.

UPDATE: Latest "Market" Now 3.3.12

Update: 11/20/11 Unofficial Market update which brings it to Version 3.3.12. Better integration with the Music market. You can now download free music and purchase music as well. Sorry U.S.A. only for free music (?)
How to install: download apk and install like any other apks.
http://db.tt/0j3ii5Oq
Here is the latest (leaked?) update of the Market which brings it to version 3.3.11.
And here's how I installed it: I am currently on CM7 nightlies
Download .apk (Market-3.3.11.apk)
Open Root explorer (or any file manager w/ root access)
Move New Market .apk (Market-3.3.11.apk) to system/apps (make sure to mount R/W first)
Move (or delete, but I suggest to move .apk just in case) older market .apk (Vending.apk) to your sdcard
Rename new market as Vending.apk
Fix Permissions (rw--r--r)
Exit Root Explorer (or any file manager)
Reboot
Done! Whew...
OR...
Download .apk
Rename New Market .apk to "Vending.apk" (w/o the quotes)
Install just like any other apllication
Reboot (if necessary)
*I didn't get the chance to try the second option so it may or may not work, but it kinda made sense...
**not sure if (Vending.apk) is the same name for SENSE ROMS (I don't remember) but just make sure to rename it the same way...
FOR MORE INFO... MARKET 3.3.11

It won't install for me. It keeps saying application not installed. If I use root explorer to place the .apk in the /systems/app folder I just get force closes. Clearing data doesn't help either. I have downloaded it several times thinking it was a corrupted download. I'm at wits end here. I have done everything in this post even before I read it as I have updated to all the other previous market releases without issue.
But for some reason this one just doesn't work. I thought maybe it wasn't working on cm7.1 nightli or or the evo shift but some of you have it working so that isn't it. Let me redo this and maybe format cache and dalvik see if that helps.

I had zero issues with the new Market. I just installed it like any other .apk. The new Market is very nice. Many small noticable differences. Force an app to install on xoom

There's a new app come out that I can install on my galaxy nexus but if I try to install it from my xoom is says something like "this app is not supported by your device".
I would like to try it because it would be far more useful on the xoom than on my phone. Is there any way to over-ride the market and force it to install?
Thanks,
If you're being prompted that the app is not supported for your device, what makes you think it will work if you do happen to get it installed?

It's brand new so I'm guessing the omission of tablets might be a mistake. If it works on the GN (ICS), shouldn't it work on the xoom since it has scaling?
The app may not work for your device. But the workaround for what you want to do is: goto security and allow installation from unknown sources. Now download a file manager like root browser. Next, on your pc goto the market and download the app. Save it to your sd card. Put the sd card back in the xoom. Open root browser and brows to sdcard-ext. Search for your app. You can then install the app.....may not work though, if not optimized for tablet or ICS.

And if that ^^^^ does not work u would need to edit the apk to disable device check, but that would include some in depth Modding of the smali files, however if it says its not comparable odds are its just not... for instance I've modded the Hbogo app, and it would install and run on the Xoom without giving me the "device not supported" but when I tried playing a video it would just force close...meaning it was actually not compatible, so long way around, but odds are if it says not comp the odds are it won't actually work

I read your problem it sound like storage space problem. You will have already installed many programs into you Motorola Xoom mobile. There will be less space left. When you are trying to install any new application it does not allow. Once you achieve 90 percent of the disk space it does not allow further any installation. That remaining space is used for small program or running program. So to know actual problem first uninstall some application to get some more free space then try to install the new application. I think this may help you.
