My Glacier has started booting a screen with three skateboarding Androids. Per another thread about this problem, I've downloaded multiple PC15IMG files and have tried booting into the bootloader with VolDown + Pwr, none of which have worked. I've tried multiple SD cards, none of which work. The LED also blinks orange when the phone is on.
I haven't really been able to find any consensus about this problem after googling besides using the PC15IMG.zip to restore, which I can't. Any help?
Umm, make sure you named the file PD15IMG.zip. If its not named that exactly, it won't work. Sounds like the issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476745
Use this like to get your PD15IMG.zip. I suspect that you were using roms that you had to flash in recovery instead of the stuff that you flash in bootloader. Don't ask me the difference because i don't know.
My bad, I did name it PD15IMG.zip, not PC. Also, I got the .zip from the mentioned thread, so it's not a recovery zip.
Well, what does hboot say when it scans for the file?

That's the thing, it doesn't. All you see on bootup is a plain white screen with three skateboarding Androids centered. None of the version info up top, no menu, and nothing regarding scanning.
Uuuh, it sounds like you phone is screwed.
Anybody else want to chime in on this? Where is Jack_R1 (or whatever) when you need him? Lol
Uh oh, this doesn't sound good. If anyone has advice about getting out of this weird bootloader limbo, it would be much appreciated.
Is it booting straight to hboot? my moms phone does this and the only way I can get it to boot it is to do fastboot reboot in cammand prompt.
In her case it just sits in hboot, and volume controls don't work and it doesn't scan for.the pd15. But for whatever reason it boots up when I do that
3 white scateboarding Androids in the middle aren't HBOOT. Looks like the bootloader doesn't load properly, in which case, indeed, you're screwed.

I just tried flashing the Gingerbreadime.zip and followed the directions to the letter and I experienced my first soft brick. The phone went into a boot loop at the mytouch screen. Luckily I was able to go into Recovery and restored the backup I had made after rooting and turning s=off. It appears to have restored okay as I still have root etc. Does anyone have any idea how or why this happened ? This zip was posted in Droid-Life and was advertised as good for all android 2.2 devices. I have never used adb but have it set up on my phone so I guess I had better get more familiar with it. I have flashed my Vibrant numerous times using Odin and Rom manager but I don't believe that there is a similar program for the Mt4g (Odin that is) I guess I have been spoiled by my Vibrant as it seems to have more options to recover with and are easier to use from what I can tell. I do love this MT4g though It is probably the best all around phone I have ever owned. Any and all info and help is greatly appreciated.:

There are people experiencing the same thing in the Nexus forum. Personally I would stay away from anything that is not specifically built for this phone as its a completely different OS than Vanilla or Moto Droid or etc. etc.

I sure intend to and I should have got on this forum before I even attempted to flash it. Right now everything seems fine except I cannot get into recovery only clockworkimode recovery. I am holding down the volume down button and pressing the power button at the same time and the device just reboots. Any ideas and what could be causing that? I am embarassed to say that my ignorance that pushed me to flash that zip is probably at the root of it. Any steps that I can take to enable me to get into stock recovery to check and make sure S=off?
Edit: Just pulled battery and sim card and than put them back in and the device went into stock recovery and s=off so I hope that all is okay and I did not create some ghosts that will show up when I attempt to flash a rom later on.
Please post questions in Q&A section.
I did the same thing. I flashed the .zip file from droid life forum and got a success message when I installed it through recovery and mine never bootlooped. I didn't get the gingerbread keyboard but it didn't bootloop either

I think you mean bootloader? You only have 1 recovery. If you flashed clockwork you no longer have stock recovery. Vol Down + Pwr gets you to bootloader or SPL where it shows S=off.
I did not flash the zip (sounds like an overkill to flash a zip for new KB). I ADB pushed both files and got a FC on multi-touch KB... oh well, I like HTC_IME better anyway

make sure fastboot is checked off otherwise you cant get into the bootloader. to make sure it is off go to: menu, settings, applications and uncheck fastboot. you're good to go then. to get into recovery, you can do it thru bootloader or by opening up rom manager and clicking on the "reboot to recovery" option

the website was not specific enough. the port at the current moment is for motorola droid devices. they should have been more specific instead of saying any rooted 2.2 android phone. even if you do get it on your phone, its only going to force close every time you try and type something. thats what happened to me, so after about 24 hours i said **** it and removed it. swype in my opinion is better anyway. im trying to port the g2 swype to our phone so we can have a swype with a mic on the keyboard. oddly, ours didnt come with one.
After several unsuccessful attempts to mount 3.1 on my Xoom, something seems to have caused the display to reverse. That is, the display is a mirror image of what it should be! This starts with the boot-up image of the Motorola Icon and carries all the way through till it's up. Several restarts have failed to resolve it, and it has me in a bit of a panic.
Have I just bricked my Xoom? Has this happened to others? Ideas? Suggestions? There's nothing on it that I have to save, so I could re-flash it, but I am not sure if/how to do this.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions/fixes!
Phillip
Its not bricked if it boots...
That is strange though. May have to reflash stock images.
Try bringing everything back to stock?
Thanks, I would be happy to do that, but it's kind of hard to do it with everything backwards!
I had to hold my cell phone up to the screen to (barely) read the mirror image text in the System Recovery. But, when I selected (what I thought was) the 'Restore Defaults' option in the blue recovery area, I got another screen with a list of selections that I also couldn't read! Rather than choose the wrong thing, I opted to reboot, but no luck, alas.

That's great, thanks for the info. I'll have to do this later today when I am at a PC (now at a Mac).
Any ideas about why this would happen in the first place? I've looked through the forums but haven't seen any other threads about this issue. It may be fixable with a reflash, but it sure was 'easy' to 'break' today without even knowing why...:^(

I have the 3G model. Looking at the instructions in that post, I have to admit I am not sure about a few (like most!) of the steps. It may become more apparent when I am doing it, but right now I am not clear as to where these steps take place.
[edit] Ok, I have just done some more reading and it appears I have quite a bit of work ahead of me, and that's just to get back to square one. Dang this was too easy to mess up!
I am confused now, I figured you would have adb installed since you already tried upgrading to 3.1 a few times.
All you need to do is flash the stock system, recovery, and boot image files.

Sorry for the confusion, but I haven't been using adb. I was trying to install the update manually with a usb data stick and the microsd cord that came with my Xoom. That's how I got myself into this pickle...way too easy it was!
Sent it back
Thanks to all who helped here. I ended up taking it back to Verizon and asking for a replacement. This they did, and even shipped it overnight at no charge (though I had to ask them to do that--they were going to charge me). The fellow at the counter was as perplexed as me. Apparently this is not a common problem.
I've searched and searched but I think the answer is no. I had an earlier post, but now I know the only way will be through fastboot since it is s-on so no point in putting any PC36IMG file on the root of the sd card. There was an unbrick program that seemed to connect, but I don't think it did anything, but it seemed to access the phone since it showed the phone in the C prompt. Just wondering if there is anything out there like "Evo_Brickfix" that uses fastboot. Thanks
Edit: I found a one click fast boot fix for bootlooping another android phone. I wonder if it can be adapted for the evo or maybe it is made for rooted phone that have s-off
I was just told, that, if you can get into flashboot, then you can do anything.
Like usb toggle and use an RUU file from your pc.

Ok so I searched and found an RUU exe file that actually put a different new stock ROM, but it still boot loops. When I'm in the bootloader I can see that the HBOOT is updated from .79 to 2.4 and the date has changed to 2011 versus 2010 so I know it RUUed in just fine. Now I just need an RUU file that will fix the recovery or something besides the ROM?
Edit: ok after I took battery out and boot it up this morning 8 hrs ago it didn't boot loop as of now isn't boot looping. So maybe it needed to power down and whatever was boot looping needed to reset. Maybe while it's working I should s-off it. Does anyone know what will root it with newer ROM? It is dated August 2011 SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.24.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_NV_2.15_release_199233_signed. Is there even a ROOT for it now. I'll google to see.
It started bootlooping again =(. I went ahead and use REVOLUTIONARY to s-off it and install a recovery. I put the same ROM I have on my evo, Kings Shooter something something, but then it looped even worse, so I put another ROM that was only 200mb versus 333mb. It is Team Nocturnal 4.54 something something and is working fine so far. Maybe my Kings Shooter is corrupted since I've moved it around from computer to computer. I can't imagine how a different rom would fix the bootloop, but maybe when you load another rom it fixes whatever is corrupt and causing the phone to go into looping. Something else I noticed, when I would leave the phone with no battery for hours, it would then boot up fine and run for a lil bit then boot again and get worse. So maybe it loaded something into memory that when left with no battery wasn't present to start with but after being powered, then stayed on. In fact, when it is boot looping, all I needed to do was put the battery back in and it would start again without me even having to press the on button. Oh, well hopefully it is working fine now. But in case anyone searches and finds this thread they can see my specific problem and solution and maybe it can help someone else.
Evening all,
I have a DHD that is stuck in HBOOT/FASTBOOT, or at least that and the stock recovery program is all I can get to.
I tried an AAHK, and it basically tried to do a downgrade and has left the phone with no data, still at s-on, and I can't find an operator RUU(three uk) to flash it back to a useable state.
Is there a three RUU available?
I'm running around in circles as I can't make a gold card, due to not having another DHD available to retrieve the MMC2. All I need is a goldcard and then I can flash a WWE, but I cant find anywhere to make one without the phone or a similar one.
I dont think it turned the microsd properly into a gc, before it tried to downgrade. Is their anyway I can test to see if the memory card has been successfully goldcarded?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
James

Mine has a lot of those symptoms to be honest. If I vol down/power to get to Hboot, it sits there with no keys being able to be pressed, just highlighted blue FASTBOOT and not even checking for files on memory card
If I just turn it on, it sits at the three splash screen, which i assume is the equivalent of the HTC one for branded phones.
I have now turned it on and left it on as per those linked threads, in the hopes the sd is a proper gold card and it is just slow. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the pointer
James
There are many threads for your problem, do a search, check what it might be. I believe in the second page of that link has another link, check it out. Find out what is wrong before trying anything. If you have any questions, let us know what are the symptoms, what you have done and so on.

Well what I did, was follow the AAHK instructions, cleaned up my environment etc, went through the install. When it asked to do the downgrade, I said yes, then it asked about wiping and was I sure, so I said yes. It then rebooted the phone and it is now as it is. I pulled the battery and tried vol-down/power, which brings up HBOOT, but it doesnt let me do anything, vol keys and power do not work and it doesnt start looking for image files.
From that thread, it was mentioned it just could be going very slow, and people have just left it overnight. This is what I have done now, and will see if it has accessed the files on the memory card and downgraded properly in the morning.
Thanks
James
Have you tried looking for the RUU here?
Last I remember when aahk downgrades, you will be asked to reboot to basic recovery twice
Panic over, thankfully! Not my phone, you see!
It was so easy to root my S2 and the X10 before that, and the iP3G before that(and custom winmo, and nokia etc etc), I said give it to me, i'll sort you out with some ICS rom action.
Then it all went wrong as explained in my previous posts.
2 days later, i finally found the H3G RUU I needed to get an system on it. Silly branded phones. Took 4 hours to download as it was on a throttled download service(my 100MB leased line usually eats 300MB in seconds, but not this time)
So long story short, into FASTBOOT USB, ran the RUU and it completed and put froyo on the phone, and as a happy coincidence it was at a level that didn't need a downgrade, so AAHK ran through like a trooper, busybox installed and hey presto, ENG S-OFF. IceColdSandwich installed through cwm and one happy mate, who then proceeded to ring his wife and tell her to rent a film, as he would be tinkering with the phone all night lol
It was getting to the point I was going to have to give him my S2, and as I've just taken possession of a Sony SmartWatch, I didn't want to do that!!
Thank for everyone's help and pointers, not sure what went wrong the first time(probably a memory card/incompatibility/goldcard problem), but all sorted now.
James
I got my hands on a mytouch that I am trying to fix. I am not 100% on the original condition but I was told it was stock and never touched. The owner went to sleep and woke and the phone will now only boot into the boot loader screen. Says S-ON, HBoot 0.89.0006, radio 26.13.04.19_m. It is completely unresponsive and none of the buttons do anything. When I plug it in the pc notices it and the phone changes to fast boot usb. I have tried placing the pd15img thing on the sdcard and it doesn't really seem to notice it. Adb doesn't seem to detect it either. Any ideas?

i read your guide. Did you miss the part in my first comment where i said I tried the pd15img file on the sdcard but that the phone doesn't seem to notice it.
"For S-On users:
Q: help! my phone is stuck on the Mytouch logo screen!
A: pull the battery, and see if you can get into the bootloader using volume down+power buttons
if you can get into the bootloader:
1) see if you can wipe data/do a factory reset in bootloader.
2) flash the stock Glacier PD15IMG.zip file choose from either
Android 2.2.1 OR Android 2.3.4
rename both files to PD15IMG.zip if not already.
-put both files in the ROOT of your SDcard, reboot into bootloader/hboot, and follow the onscreen instructions
note: if you are still unclear on what to do, read the "HOW TO RESTORE TO STOCK" section"
I PUT THE FILE ON THE CARD AND IT JUST SITS THERE TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE. None of the buttons work and the only thing I can do is pull the battery out.
Now thanks for the "help", but do you have any real suggestions?

Sounds like you have yourself a paperweight, OP.
Also, don't be rude to Saranhai, please. About 4.5 out of 5 of the "Help my phone is bricked" threads we get could have been prevented by the person reading his guide. No kidding.
If the volume up and down keys don't respond and the bootloader doesn't scan for the PD15IMG.zip file, then it sounds like your bootloader is corrupted or in some other way damaged. If the phone just decided to do this, literally, overnight it's probably a failed eMMC.
Anybody else want to chime in? I honestly hope I'm wrong.
Sorry op, it is most likely bricked, send it back to tmo or htc if you can. Also, estallings is right, please don't be rude to saranhai, he has helped a lot of people pull their phones from the brink.

Place one on there at a time. At least with the name PD15IMG.zip. The name has to be very exact and the bootloader is suppose to scan for the file whenever it loads.
I would suggest the GB (2.3.4) file. Does that link work?
