Hallo,
im a little bit desperate, because i cant flash ROMs on my Milestone2 (German Vodafone-Edition (nosimlock))
I Like to flash this ROM
But before i flash the ROM i tried to Backup my orginalROM....and here the Problem starts.
I installed "Droid 2 bootstrap"....i press "Bootstrap Recovery" (have root, made with z4root, and oneclick..perhaps it conflictet ?)
now the problem is, then i press "reboot recovery" the tel just makes a restart and dont enter the bootmeno
can you plz help me debugging together, so i can perhaps come to the pleasure to run a costum rom ??
greetz
ps.:sry 4 noobstressing the community, but im now @ a point there i dont have a clue how to solve this problem.
ok i think i have found the problem,...but i cant solve it myself. perhaps im wrong, but i think, that something is misconfigurated that way, it needs to be fixed in a professional way
here is the mistake i did:
I first didnt know, that ROM Manager dont work on Milestone2 !!!
but i installed it,....and then install the bootloader (or driver) i was wondering, that milestone2 isnt listed....so i selected a not matching model. and so ROM Manager installed some error sh**t, that makes "droid 2 bootstrapper" not to go in bootmenu
anyone could say me if my suggestion could be right ? and if theres a way to check that ?
Is there a way to debug my problem in a good way, so we could find the error ?
doh....seems to be, that the Milestone2 should moved to the "Low Activity Devices"-Forum^^
nobody here, that can help out with Milestone2-issues ???

First thing, Bootstrap is not supposed to take you to boot menu, it is supposed to take you to Clockwork recovery 2.xx menu after first pressing 'bootstrap recovery' and then using 'reboot recovery' option.
Are you not able to reach CWR? If you are able to reach it, then you flash Bootmenu v.0.8.6_v2 from Endless7's CM7 first post using install from zip option in Clockwork recovery. After this you'll have Bootmenu.
Hope it helps!!

Hallo,
thx 4 your help. i didnt know that i have to use both tools in combination to boot to recovery menu. i have now installed "Droid_2_Recovery_Bootstrap_v1.0.0.5" and "ROM Manager 5".....i even gave them full permissions with root explorer. But then i make "reboot recovery" in bootstrap it just restarts.....i even cant get in recovery menu by key combos. then i press photobutton+Vol up/down, i come in a other bootloader (standart bootloader? connect usb)
what is the right keykombo to test ? do i have to use rom manager 2 instead of 5 ??
i want to do it like this tutorial und flash the rom there.....i hope it will work because i even cant get the start work
I don't think the ROM manager works on Milestone 2. At least I have never used it.
When you are in boot manager, there is an option 'Recovery'. Go to that option n press power button. Then you need to select 'Stable Recovery' from the next screen and this should take you to clockwork recovery to flash ROMs.

i cant understand your language
Okay. Let me try to give you the complete process. I hope you will understand it and can follow it.
1. Root your phone. Keep the bootmenu_0.8.6.zip on root of your sd card.
2. Install Droid2bootstrapper. (no need of ROM manager)
3. Open the app Droid2bootstrapper. Select option 'Bootstrap Recovery'. It will ask for Root access. Grant the access by pressing 'Yes'.
4. A message 'Success' (or something similar) will be shown. Press 'OK'.
5. Now, select the second option 'Reboot recovery'.
6. Phone will reboot and you will see a Clockword Mod Recovery menu. It will have options as shown in the image attached.
7. Choose option 'Install zip from sd card' (using the camera key). Select boot menu_0.8.6.zip.
8. Once boot menu is flashed. Reboot your phone.
9. You will see the LED go blue during the second M logo. Press volume down and you will be in bootmenu.

Hallo,
thx again 4 helping me.
i EXACTLY DO THAT.....till step 5 every thing is fine. but then it comes to step 6....the telephone just restarts, without getting in the bootmenu.
i never saw that clockwork menu you posted in the picture. slowly i think, that something is wrong with my tel.
perhaps i already made some stuff, that destroyed my possibility to install get in this menu
istn there a other way to install that ROM ?
Let us try a different approach. While your phone is turned on and you are in the home screen, try to press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds? There is supposed to be a menu that comes out with choices to power off or reboot device, silent mode or something like that. Choose reboot and new choices will pop out. Try to see if recovery is listed and choose that. Your phone should restart and boot to recovery. If it works that way then you can install bootmenu.zip from there. Hope that works for you.
My suggestion:
1) format data/cache in stock recovery (hold X during boot)
2) if it will not work after this, try to flash sbf from http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2 (if you have Froyo, choose some Froyo version, if you have GB, then choose GB - remember, that you can't go back to Froyo, once you'll flash GB... ok, you can via downgrade, but this is not important for now)
.. then root it (are you really sure, you've successfully rooted your phone? Use this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=cs for verification)
... then install droid2bootstrap and if you'll not be able to enter recovery directly from bootstrap, try to hold vol up+vol down during booting process (but I'm not sure if this option is available in the first version of CWM/bootstrap for M2) also you can try to enter recovery (not install it, just enter into it) via ROM Manager...
If it will not work after these steps, then you have probably some mysterious Milestone 2 or you are doing something wrong...

i tried flashing "2.3.4 Service Version" from that side. this one:
Germany Vodafone MILS2_U6_4.1-22
because i have a milestone2 from vodafone (germany). it began flash, than stopped with an error:
failed flashing process
on Phonedisplay it says:
critical error febe 0047
but itz not bricked....i made factoryreset now
EDIT: perhaps i have to unroot it before flashing ??
Do you have the superuser icon in your app drawer? If yes, then can you check if it says that Droid2Bootstrapper has been given SuperUser access.
If possible can you post a photo (if not screenshot) of the SuperUser app.

thx everybody 4 helping me out, i hope we manage to find that stupid error.
here is the screenshot:
This time i made a factoryreset via stock recoverymode (pressingX, then volUp+foto)
after that i rooted my phone via superoneclick. something is strage with that, and perhaps heres the error. then superoneclick sends the test to the phone nothing happens....and die rooting prozess ends not in an normal way....in fact it never ends, then i just pull the usb und restart, the superuseraccount is there. i can use apps that need root.
i now trying to completely unroot with oneclick und then use z4root from market. perhaps it works.
i realized, that the root is not gone after factoryreset. perhaps it is the best i flash sbf. i yesterday tried, but flashing endet with an error.
i tried "2.3.4 Service Version Germany Vodafone MILS2_U6_4.1-22" from this side
downloadet from here (because links on other side are down)
ok one thing is not really clear for me. i tried to flash version 2.3.4
in my telinfo it says: "firmwareversion 2.2.1" that meens i have froyo right ? so i better try the "2.2.2 Service Version" on that side....but it is listed as "DE, AT,CH (O2 DE) (No Branding).....O2 is a german provider. i have a "vodafone-germany" version.is there a problem flash other sfbs ?
perhaps i manage to get rid of the problem by first flashing another ROM with RSD-Lite, then i Flash the ROM i want, after sucsessfully installing droid2bootstrap.
can someone say me if there is another way to make this toturial work with rsd-lite?
questions over question, i know, but im not able to solve this problem myself
EDIT: made a clean unroot. then restart, and rooted the device again (with superoneclick). then oneclick tells me "do you want to test if root worked" i click yes. normally on the handydisplay it must pop up a message at this time, but nothing happened. after that i waited for timeout und the rooting prozess ended in a regular way this time. i have the superuser again,.....bootstrap says "sucsess" after installing bootstrap recovery, but then i press "reboot recovry"-->regular restart. also then i press powerbutton for 2sec in homescreen i dont have the option to reboot, just "turn-off" "flightmodus" & "silent". something is terribly wrong with my device and i think i most go the way to flash sbf
Well, you won't have reboot option for sure since you are using a stock ROM. So don't worry about that.
But if bootstrapper is working fine, which seems to be the case from the screenshots, then I can't really understand why it is not going in CWR on pressing reboot recovery.
Test for root rights with some other apps like root browser. You can find it here on xda. Open root browser and check if you are able to change permissions of some app inside /system/apps folder, any system app that you don't use such as Moto phone portal etc.
If you can change the permissions with it, then it is difficult to say what the problem is.
Edit: Also try unrooting with superclickone and rooting again with z4root (permanent option) that is if you are still on Froyo. Seems pointless but the problem itself is pretty weird.
Plus, are you saying that you are unable to flash an sbf using RSDLite? Is that process failing for you?

Hi,
Can you check if USB debugging is enabled and then try installing the bootstrap recovery and then reboot and see if it works?

Amon-Ra´s recovery is now replaced with new recovery.

hi
whats special about this i did see this on the market
just wanted to know what special or better than what we already have
you can for example scroll down and push down agin to get on top agin. so it scrolls around.
you can flash roms in folders. for example you have a folder structure like this:
SDcard/-install-/roms/Puzzlerom/all_files_related_to_puzzlerom
SDcard/-install-/roms/AnotherROM/all_files_related_to_AnotherROM
You can "start" your flash from android, so you can use your touch screen to chose what rom to flash. Start rom manager and select file to flash. rom manager will ask if you want to backup you rom and if you want to wipe. it will reboot in to recovery and do your choise made in android. for example, do backup, wipe, and then reboot phone to system auto.
This is just a little thing it can do.

Hello there!
I believe I must be doing some stupid mistake, but I have done this over and over and still no success :S
I have rooted my HTC Tattoo (Vodafone PT), installed ROM Manager, selected it as a Wildfire and installed recovery.
All is good there.
Now the problem is when I try to install HCDR v.17 using ROM Manager, I always get a verification failed :/
Any help?
Best regards!
Me too,I have same trouble...
root already by universal androot, then use rom manager and choose wildfire
it shows Successfully downloaded Clockworkmod recovery, but still can't enter
recovery mode,after that...I re-entry rom manager,it shows recovery broken~
My god~what can I do?
Hey guys,
I'm trying to boot into recovery mode on my Legend, but I've had no success as of now. I've tried using Rom Manager to boot to recovery and I've tried backing up my current Rom as well, but all I get is a phone with a red exclamation mark beside it. I've tried booting into fastboot, (Holding down the volume down button and power button) and hit the "Recovery" button, but still no luck. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
PS: Sorry for posting two threads in two days.
EDIT: Solved. For those having a similar problem, all I had to do was run the recovery once from my PC using the file "Recovery-windows" in the Legend tools. It had to push the recovery files into my Legend again because I factory reset it a couple weeks ago. I've been trying to fix it for hours, love getting to the bottom of things.
This also works:
When you get to the red triangle of doom press volume up and power. Then using the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select choose "install update.zip" (something like that, I honestly can't remember what of actually says) then observe as your phone ends up in recovery.

Hi,
I am new to HTC legend. I have a similar problem, can you please tell me what uyou refer to by "run the recovery once from my PC using the file "Recovery-windows" in the Legend tools." What program is that and how do I get it?
Thanks in advance.
Collectric: have you tried holding the volume up button and then pressing the power button?
For me it takes a few moments of pressing power but then a green box appears and i can move on.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Of course I pressed power and volume down, that's basic.
Unfortunately, I made a stupid mistake and tried to replace the recovery file using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
which was prepare for Samsung phone (having the naive thought that Android is the same Android for every one ).
Since then I lost the possibility to go into recovery mode, and the author of the above mentioned program is not answering me, so now I am tryoing to look for a way to "recover" recovery mode ....
Thanks anyhow...
Well when I rooted my phone with theunlockr.com they gave us a legend tools folder and it has the recovery tools to push the recovery files into the phone which worked for me and I can then go into recovery freely I'll give you the link soon.
Sent from my Legend using Tapatalk
EDIT: Okay here it is http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-legend/ make sure you download ONLY the "Legend Rooting Tools" and ONLY that you don't need anything else. Unzip the Legend Root Folder in the root of C:/ Also please do not follow the steps they mentioned as your phone is already rooted.
Here are the steps you should do:
1. Unzip the Legend Root Folder to "C:/"
2. Go to the folder in the "C:/" it should be called "R4-legend-root"
3. Put your phone in recovery mode using the power + volume down and click recovery in the PHONE not the PC.
4. When you're on the red triangle of doom (Make sure you are!) click "Recovery-windows" in the PC (Again located in the r4-legend-root folder which you unzipped)
5. A black box should come up pushing the files to your phone
6. Your phone should be in recovery mode
7. You can now go into recovery mode freely using ROM Manager instead of the computer like I do.
PS: Sorry for the late reply I was off on vacation.
Many thanks man, no need to apologize...
Well, the whole point is that strangely enough I CAN'T go into recovery mode on my phone...
Since that stupid act of trying to work with the Samsung program, when I press power and volume down I get into "Factory mode" which gives me the options to test my device, clear the flash and Reboot.
I don't even have the option to go into recovery mode...
I can try and copy all those files manually, as my phone is rooted. I will copy the files from PC into my SD then move them with my phone "total commander" into the proper folders in the root flash.
Does it sound like a plan?
Thanks again
Hi,
As you probably guessed, root is read only, so I met a dead end. I have no way to go into recovery mode thus can't replace any file in root.
I tried to reboot to recovery using "adb reboot recovery", the phone reboots and get stuck with green HTC on the screen - I had to remove battery, put back, press power with volume down to enter "Factory mode", select reboot and get again normal operation.
Any innovative idea?
Thanks in advance...
Maybe you can try to reroot your phone using the unlockr.com method. But I'm not a specialist at these kinds of issues, I wish to be more help. But is there any you can try to reroot your phone using theunlockr.com method?
Yes, I am working on it but I am not so optimistic as, on the way, they also instruct to go into recovery mode. Anyhow, till I discover something better I'll give it a shot.
Many thanks on your assistance.
As I suspected, its a vicious circle, all the repair methods eventually end in the recovery mode. To recover recovery mode I have to go into recovery mode - sad but seems to be true. I will try to open a new thread maybe there is some Android sage with some trick in the sleeve for me....
Thanks again
I'm sorry I couldn't be of help. If you do manage to get it fixed please tell me how you did it because it would be very useful to know recovery mode is essential for every phone. Thank you and sorry again.

I had a problem with the red exclamation mark when trying to load the recovery image on my phone after rooting with the method on theunlockr.com.
To solve it download a recovery image from here, rename it "update.zip" and placed it in the root of your sdcard.
Then boot up your phone and attempt to load recovery as before by pressing the power button and volume DOWN. When you get to the red exclamation mark screen, press and hold volume UP and the power button. This should bring up the Android system recovery. Select flash update.zip and this will flash and load the recovery image.

Hey, I've been doing this for few months now every time I need to enter recovery after I recovered from a bootloop for installing CM7.
However, is there a way to permanently remove this 'wrong' feature by having to manually click update.zip every time? Can I just restore my Legend back to the original state where it would automatically enter recovery without having to press "Vol Up + Power Button" combo and applying update.zip?
Thanks!

If you look at the top line of the bootloader screen it will have the phrase
'S-ON' somewhere; this means 'security on'. The result is that the /system and /recovery partitions are read-only.
There are instructions here on how to S-OFF the Legend. (xda discussion thread here)
I haven't done it myself. Personally, I felt that the risks of bricking and the time spent researching and doing it outweighed the benefits of a writeable /system and /recovery partition.

So are you saying that this "extra step" resulted from the fact that my phone is still S-ON? If that is so, I guess the benefits of this read-only system allows me to flash ROMs much easier (without having to connect to ADB).
Thanks!
I'm not sure if this is gonna help, but you can try pressing the "BACK" button while pressing power on?
Ok my phone was working fine, I decided to update my rom with rom manager. I accidently downloaded a rom patch instead of a rom. Don't use the power button to select. Use the trackpad

Well first off, you should ALWAYS make nandroid (ROM manager) backups before flashing any ROM, addon, patch, etc.
That aside, you have a few things to do here. If you didn't make a nandroid backup you should download a ROM.zip file from the Dev section (your choice), and put it on your SDcard. Enter the boot loader (from off) by holding vol. down+power, then selecting 'recovery'. Once in recovery, wipe data/factory reset, and then go to 'install zip from SDcard' and select the ROM.zip. Then flash any associated .zip's or anything that the ROM maker suggest. Reboot, and you're good to go in a working ROM. You can now go from there.
Remember, when in recovery you need to use the TRACKPAD and BACK BUTTON to navigate the CWM recovery screen. Using the power button / camera button / menu button will just show/hide the menu or turn the screen off. You can scroll and select with the trackpad, and go back with the 'back' button. Only use these 2. Nothing is wrong with your phone, you're just using the wrong damn buttons.
Your phone is so far from bricked its not even funny. Just follow some basic knowledge on how the recovery and ROM manager works and you'll be back to 100%.
thanks alot guys. i was really high so i started getting paranoid about my phone lol BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH
Power Button just shows the wallpaper, trackpad is where you select for our phone

Hello there!
As you mentioned that you are not able to see other Recovery options like "Install from zip" etc. This is because you must be booting your phone into the Stock Recovery. For those extra options to come up we need to boot the phone into the Custom Recovery.
To boot into Custom Recovery:
1. Press power on button;
2. Notice when the LED light blinks "BLUE" color; press both the volume keys this time;
3. Now it should show you Custom Recovery options this time;
4. Select "Install from Zip" and flash the ROM you were trying to flash (Also refer to the ROM info if that has some special installation steps).
If the above steps does not resolves the issue then you can always flash you phone with the Stock ROM found in the following article named as SBF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
[Note: Above mentioned article has all the information that a defy user needs. Thanks "Zephyrot" for that wonderful article.]
Hope that helps!
Good Luck!!
there is no blue led, when press power button it stuck on red moto logo..
and when press both vol down and power it goes into recovery with limited options.
can it is possible i put rom into sd card and rename it with Update.zip and then in recovery use it with update zip..
or any other solution
Thanks

I'm disappointed to know that you are still facing the same issue. Also, renaming the file to update.zip will not let you flash it.
As suggested above first recharge your battery for a while and then flash with appropriate SBF of your region using RSD Lite. Refer to the above given link it has all the information. Also, note that if you flash with any particular android version SBF (which is not a fixed SBF) then you will not be able to downgrade (above article has all info).
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
Okay, thanks for all.. this is the T Mobile Uk version and i got it with eclair rom, and than updated with orignal T mobile froyo.
Now i should start from froyo or eclair?

You may use any ROM either Froyo or Eclair. Please also check the downgradilbility of the ROM. As in many of the cases if the ROM is not fixed then switching back to the earlier versions is impossible without having the Nandroid backup. I suggest you to use the version which is officially released in your region.
ROMs can be downloaded from the below mentioned link:

What we need to do?
We are launching Stock Recovery and wiping cache and data.
Use below mentioned steps:
1. Remove battery from phone and then reinsert;
2. Press and hold Volume Down button along with Power button till you see Android icon with an exclamation mark (!);
3. Once you see android icon and exclamation mark release both buttons and now press volume up and volume down button together;
4. Above steps will launch Android System Recovery window (Stock Recovery);
5. Now “wipe data/factory reset” by pressing volume down key and to select press power key;
6. On the next screen it will prompt you to confirm this option by selecting “yes – delete all use data” select this option with power key again;
6. Also “wipe cache partition” from power key as mentioned above;
7. Now select “reboot system now”;
After above steps it will take around 3-5 minutes for first boot and your phone will now boot in normal state.
If the above steps does not resolves the issue then I would recommend you to use some other SBF depending on your region.

What if I have balck screen in recovery mode as well?
Do you have any idea how to solve the same problem if the recovery mode does not start neither? Only RSDLite sees that the phone is connected. I can refresh the ROM but I did not find the right .sbf file yet. Do you know maybe which one would bring back the phone from death?
Thank you in advance!!

It seems an issue with the Kernel. May be you are flashing the Green lense Defy (MB525) with GB kernel (i.e. MB526 sbf).
Also check the Bootloader version and which Android version you were using.
Here is a list of all the SBF's for both versions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
Hope this helps.
PS:- I don't use Defy for a year now as I own a Nexus 4.
These are the steps:
1. Unlock the bootloader following the instructions at "htcdev.com" You can't muck up your phone. If you succeed, when you start your phone into the bootloader mode you will see "UNLOCKED" at the top of the screen. You will still have "S-On". This method doesn't give you "S-Off". You don't need it to install custom roms and there is far less chance of you bricking your phone. If you can't get this far you will need to get someone to help you.
2. On your PC go to "unlockroot.com" and get the free download of "UnlockRoot" (Press cancel if it asks you whether you want some browser addon, you can still download the program) Run it and connect your running Wildfire by USB (make sure USB debugging is enabled). Confirm a Wildfire is connected when asked and the click on"Root". After a bit it will say "successfully rooted". Just disconnect the phone. I then rebooted the phone (I don't know if this is necessary).
3. Install "Rom Manager" from Play Store. Run it and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Then select "Reboot into Recovery" and you should come up with the Bootloader screen with CWM 5.0.2.0. Use the vol up/down button to go to "backup and restore" and press the "Trackball" to select it. Follow the instructions to backup your current Rom. This is important as you can go back to your stock Rom is you are not happy with the new one. The "power" button lets you go back to the previous menu. Select "wipe data/factory reset" by pressing the Trackball. (I then went to "advanced" and "wipe dalvic cache". I don't know if this is needed, but it doesn't hurt). Then you just go to "install zip from sdcard" and select the Zip file for your new Rom.
4. Follow the the instructions for installing your preferred custom Rom and Gapps etc. I think jordfaz's MiniCM9 Rom together with "tiny gapps" which will get you Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS 4.0.4) might be as good as it gets with a Wildfire at the moment. What follows is how I got MiniCM9 running.
Make sure you have put the MiniCM9.zip file and the Tiny Gapps zip file on the root directory of your sd card.before you do step 3 above. Then in the CWM recovery just go to "install zip for sdcard" and select the miniCM9 zip. After it says installed just "reboot system now" and let the phone start normally. It will take over 5 minutes. After it has fully started power the phone down. Then press the vol down and power buttons together to reboot into the recovery screen. Go to recovery and press the power button to select. (I thought this would get you into CWM 5.0.2.0 but on my wildfire I got the original recovery. So go to "apply update from sdcard" press Trackball and you will have CWM 5.0.2.0) Then go to "install zip from sdcard" and select Tiny Gapps zip file. After it says installed just reboot phone and let it start normally and you have a fully working version of CM 9.1 ICS!
Finally a few tips about using MiniCM9. ICS puts more demands on the processor than Froyo so in settings go to Performance and set max cpu speed to 691 and min to 176. Also set CPU governor to "Smartass2". I didn't get any FC's with these settings. (I like to play the game "geocaching" and I was really impressed with how well the overclocked ICS Wildfire runs "cgeo"). Also one of the small bugs with MiniCM9 is that the soft keys below the screen work but don't light up (Not a major flaw in my opinion). Also the installed fm radio causes a reboot. I just installed "Spirit FM" from Play Store. Sounds good. There is also no email app in tiny gapps so just get gmail from Play Store.
One final tip if you want to be able to use the Trackball to wake the phone. Go to the app "Terminal Emulator" type "su" and press enter, then type "trackballwake" and press enter and the Trackball can be used to wake the Wildfire.
That's about all I know. Hope it helps you get the most out of your Wildfire!
Glad to see that you finally got it
Should be a help for all the future wildfire users who unlocked their device before via HTCdev
Actually, I see HTCDev producing far more errors than others will. You need to include in your guide that it will void warranty, unlike S-OFF, and also that you will not have access to partitions such as radio etc.
Also, you will need to flash boot.img after flashing ROMs, or you'll go into a bootloop.
Nice step by step instructions.. Good work man !
Good...
