I have searched around the net and watched almost all youtube videos about the HD2. I still need to know about how the phone handles multitasking... I am quite sure it does multitask though..
Android: Long press on the home-menu button to bring up latest apps. + Task manager apps to kill running apps.
Nokia/Maemo: Big element of core design. Screen with live feed windows. Each window can be shot down seperatly.
iPhone: No multitasking
HD2: ?? Anything like a task manager here??

There's no such thing as a stupid question.
In this case there's only a "narrowminded, pissed off and angry with his live"-kinda question.

When I saw it a week ago, the presenter pressed a small button on right side of the screen while in home display to bring up the list of applications running. So in a sense, quite similar to N900, except that it was a list, not thumbnails.
What I would be interested to know if there's a way to remap a hardware key to bring up the task manager. Personally I would think this would be more useful for me that the start-key.

There are a few other nice solutions:
WkTask shows the running apps as small icons on the taskbar - kinda like in Windows on the desktop computer. By tapping on the icons, you can easily switch between different runningapps with as outreturning to the homescreen in between. Its freeware, although donations are surely appreciated by the creator...
AEButtonsPlus can display a listf running apps following a hardware button press, so you can switch by tapping on a listed item.
dnt forget we can use the xperia panels now, that works as a nice visual task manager
Thanks, those solutions look quite interesting and probably will be what I'm looking for. I'll have to give them a try when I'll get the device.
Heres some pics so you know what were on about
1) xperia panels (You can get that free here)
2) Htc Task Manager (You Get That with every htc device)
3) Showcase (You also can get that free here)

I just found the Showcase myself too. It seems really brilliant application.. simple and finger friendly.
Just need to figure out how I can remap a hardware button (like start button) to start this instead. But as far as I understand, that shouldn't be big issue.
But I guess that should be what I was after with this: easily accessable task manager so I can switch applications quick.

If I've understood correct, it should be accessible through home-screen, just pressing the start from top-left corner? This should be enough for me if I have 9 shortcuts in home screen anyway. Probably don't need that fast access to rest of aplications.
Just a personal preference, but I'd like to be able to access task manager fast. Just so I can juggle between browser, ssh terminal (irssi) etc easily.Currently with my Nokia E71 I can access it by pressing home-button for a second and would prefer a dedicated button for this.

Not on the newer windows mobile 6.5.1 roms, microsoft moved the start button from the top to the bottom, suppose to make it more like windows by the way you can set showcase up so it opens if you tap the top right hand corner where the clock is

Also, X button enhancement does not work perfectly. On the capacitive screen I can't slide my finger to the left to activate different functions of Showcase. Only the one to the right can be used. It works fine when operating through a PC with Remote Controller, so I am sure this is due to the different screen technology.

Yeah, for some reason HD2 renders the X button enhancement useless. So, is there actually any way to access Showcase (or any similar task manager for that matter) by long pressing any of the hard keys? I really wish there was more convenient ways to switch between applications.
Kinda funny how Apple's ineptitude has people thinking, all over again, asif Multitasking is something special.
Any windows version since way back when does multitasking.
You know what the funny part is, the iPhone can actually multi task, but Apple won't allow it for some reason Steve Jobs' mind spewed out and only he can understand.

They can activate it later and sell a new wave of $600 phones.
Remember when they released video? It was very exciting for a lot of people. I recall video recording the festivities on my three year old Windows Mobile phone at the time.
Someone told me that if you go to settings and scroll down to about. If it says LEO70 your market place isnt gunna work. But you can change something in the registry to fix it and change the name. If this is true, how do i do it? Can someone link me to a thread or a video.

Hi. download this XBMOD,file deployer. Unzip and put on you desktop. Now start up your application Deployer (or Toms Deployer). Make sure phone is not in sleep mode. When the application deployer on your desktop has finished deploying, then go to the menu screen on your phone. You must have Touchxplorer still in there? If not put that in as well. OK here goes, Scroll to near the bottom until you can see XBMOD.Files.Deployer. Now tap that with your finger, it will open up, you can now see the CustClear.provxml, OK. Right now using the back arrow key on your mobile, push once and now you are in the menu again.OK now push the TouchXplorer, you will see yellow files there. You need to open my documents (Tap it twice), then you need to open the My Ringtones folder(Tap it twice). Can you see the CustClear.provxml file (Yes) OK now touch that until highlighted. then at the bottom of that screen, use your finger to push it up, or touch that 3 little full stops... scroll until you see the copy option. Now touch the copy. OK Just use the back arrow key again (Twice) until you come back to My Device. Scroll it up a bit until you see the yellow Windows folder. Now tapit twice untilthat opens. It will take a bit of time, but once you see it open with yellow files, then go to the bottom of you screen and tap the 3 little ... again. scroll until you see paste.OK Hit the paste, Thats it. Back out of the settings using the back arrow button. go to the about screen, and it should now show HTC HD7 T9292. If so then you have Cracked it.(IF not, do it again slower this time?) now go to hotmail and try logging in. It should fail, and then you touch the error message, it now shows the activation screen. now put the codes in, re log into your account..Job Done.

I might be wrong about it showing before registering? Try registering, and see if it has changed. No problem if it shows you LEO7, as you have not used up your activation key.
Give that a try and let me know, and i will change my posting.

Did you do the guide I linked you to?
Hard reset your phone and do everything in the guide form begining to end, Do not skip and do not do it on your current setup.
Start a fresh.
To hard reset hold volume up/down when you see the 1234 on magldr and keep holding them till the DFT screen has changed to white screen with instructions.

You may be using the wrong custclear.provxml file! The same thing happened to me and I couldn't change LEO70 to HD7 until I went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911579 download the toolkit that's in the first link you see, and used the XBMODDeployer.xap that's in the toolkit.
Copy to ringtones, copy to Windows folder in WP7 & use Connection Setup to provision as usual. Only by doing these steps will you be able to see HD7 when you go to the about screen. If that doesn't work, hard reset and try again.

Hi, I activated my phone using an official code. However I am still not able to unlock the device. This might be a stupid question, but Is it nesecary to unlock the phone in order to change the name using xbmod deployer and download apps from the market.
Because without unlocking I was at least able to use live mail.
I've installed CyanogenMod 7 on my HD2 but having trouble
to get an app menu key. I thought it would be the windows key
but it just exits the application to the main menu.
For example in contacts - I need to press the menu key to see the application
menu - without the menu button it is not much use.
I tried to remap the keys but the only key that I can use would be the back key.
But this would mean i loose the back key which is not desirable too.
I'm not sure if I miss anything but appreciate if anybody could point me into the right direction.
thanks
HJ
It is the Windows key.

does your Windows key work properly under WM? if so, and if in Android you get exit after pressing the windows (central) key, sth is wrong with your build, maybe consider either updating or switching to other,
as temporary solution enable Tablet Tweaks in Settings / CM settings (it should be there), it'll give you an option to have virtual home, menu and back keys on status bar
I had no problems under WM. I'm running the ThphooN_v3.3.8MAGLDR upgrading from the 3.3 version. I already had that problem in the 3.3 version.
That tablet tweak as mention is not available but would be a great workaround.
thanks
u can use button savior (from market) to replace the hardware keys ...it might be helpful

Not sure if I should install a different built seems to be a single device problem if nobody else reported this.

Have you tried button saviour as suggested? I never had these issues when I was using Typhoon though.
Help, please.
What is the *best* way to get a Windows 8 screen shot?
Surprisingly I am currently using a Virtual Machine (VM) and I cannot find an obvious way to screen capture. Duh?
Suggestions:
(1) I do not assume any VM software, so the best method should be available directly in the OS.
(2) Must be free, e.g. if it can be done via Visual Studio debugger/emulator it must still be free like VS Express.
(3) Method should work with keystrokes, touch gestures, button, etc., that are available on any hardware or Virtual Machine platform.
(4) Ability to capture both Windows Desktop and Metro screens required.
(5) Ability to capture sub-full-screens optional.
There may eventually be many ways, so everyone's suggestions welcome.
clipping tool
u can use the snipping or clipping tool (i forget what its called)
point ur mouse in the bottom left corner untill a little menu comes up with the time....then click search.....in the search box, just type "snipping tool" and click on apps
Or, you could press print screen and paste the screen capture into any random program that takes photos.. paint is one.
ok, i got tested snagit in Windows 8 and it worked nice since it has shortcuts and such. of course i thought like the easier thing was printscreen.
but i tested some other screen capture, since you want a free one and i found Greenshot
http://getgreenshot.org/
open source, with good features like Windows capture, and region and obviously full screen, also capture last region, so you can capture the same region over and over, and a big plus its it has an editor! so you can add stuff to the image if you want without going to another software . it worked good, of course its not as deep as snagit, but it worked great, looked great, with desktop and metro UI.
hmm if you are gonna grab a region in metro UI you have to press for example screenprint and then go to desktop and then you select which part you want to grab. it happens with snagit as well.
if you are going to use Windows capture you have to be in the window. it will grab it automatically you dont choose it. (well in my mini test) ok i found an interactive Windows capture mode in settings, besides how to disable capture mousepointer. but interactive Windows capture didn't work well for me
maybe it can work for you! it was the only with editor and free. i could find.
Another way for screenshots, put your mouse in bottom left corner and a menu appears and click share. Then there's a take a screenshot button at far right.

Its built in. No need for other software.
Alternatively, you can use Print Screen (for the whole screen), or ALT + Print Screen for the active dialog/window

Just like to post my choice here, if you don't mind...
I like Start8.
It's only $5, and you can change the icon of the button, and whether it leads to the Metro start or the 'classic' start (Menu like Windows 7).
I personally have it going to the Metro start, but I've had a look at the windows 7 start and think it does look better than Classic Shell...
The only drawback is the $5 some are unwilling to spend for a bit of software

I purchased Start8 quite a while ago, I found it to generally be a better clone, but I found Classic Shell to be a lot more customizable, although a tad bit less stable.
So, if you want a true replica of Windows 7's start menu (or their Windows 8 menu) I'd choose Start8, but if you want a bit more customizable of an experience (that's also free) I'd go with Classic Shell.
Pretty happy with Classic Shell. The port for RT was very well done, now I have it on my full Win8 tablet and it's pretty good. Not sure if it was related or not but I lost my autorotation around the same time I installed classic shell. As per the usual Windows weirdness, a reboot fixed it.

Second - after installation sensor "Windows" button in the lower tablet's panel begun to launch "Desktop + start", instead of metro-app shifting. I didn't find how to return initial appointment

Sorry, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by Windows sensor button. I am thinking you mean the Windows button in the middle of the tablet, like the Home button. Or do you mean when you do a quick swipe from the left to bring up the "multitasking" tab. There is the funny looking start button at the bottom that is just a bunch of tiles. When you press that, what is it that it should do? Switch between metro apps? Mine brings me back to the Windows Start screen.

OMG! Sorry, my friend! I've been workin' and didn't pay proper attention to your first message on this page. It contains the solution for the problem №2 from my first post. I'd red your post hastily and, having no tablet near to check, thought about porblem №1 solution And, only when in home, I took my tablet to do what you proposed me to do, and understand, that it was a solution for problem №2 :good: Now, windows sensor button (yes, in the middle of the tablet's lower board) gives me windows start page (yea!). Thanks!!!
Still trying to find the solution for problem No1 :fingers-crossed:

Let's clarify what problem number 1 is. Are you talking only about Classic Shell installing things into Windows Explorer and the Desktop IE?

In a Windows Explorer window, tap and hold on the toolbar where the icons are, and then after a few seconds (when the square comes up completely), release, and then uncheck the option for the Classic Explorer.
In an IE window, press and hold around the tab area (not directly on a tab) and then release. When the options show up, select Classic Explorer Bar. You should then get a window asking to disable the add-on. Click on Disable.
