Hey guys I think this will be a great thread for people to post their battery usage results to let future adopters of windows phone 8 see what sort of battery life our devices are getting
I would like to know also... Can people post some real world experiences about the batterylife of their WP8 devices...
A fact also is that it will get better with updates as it is so new OS.
Got 18+ hours of battery each of the firstb2 days with my 920. Haven't run it dead though

Awesome. How heavy was your usage? Did you use 3g, wifi and all of that or did you barely use the phone?
I have been studying battery use closely for my first 5 days with the 8X. There is definitely an idle drain issue. Compared to a One S (same basic hardware, smaller battery) the idle drain is at least 3 times higher, if not 5 times higher. In 7 hours overnight, my 8X loses around 15% of battery. This is with one email account set to sync every 15 mins and one set to sync every hour. Obviously there is no screen time or anything else to worry about and the signal where I live shows as 3-4 bars (out of five).
Having said this, the in-use battery life seems decent. Certainly the screen is a real hog, but a normal working day (about 10 hours of mixed usage) for me so far drains about 40-45% battery. This is worse than other devices, but not too bad for me and it will improve - I find it takes around 1-2 weeks for battery life to settle.
By way of comparison, I used to have a Lumia 900 which would use around 35% in a working day for me and I have a RAZR i Android phone which uses around 25% (yes, 25%).
My guess is that there are a couple of things going on here. Firstly, there is a large idle drain issue. This should be easily fixed in software. Secondly, I suspect the baseband is not too efficient so a weaker network signal really causes a heavy drain, again this is probably fixable in software. I suspect that WP8 is not as efficient as WP7.5 in general, again, easily fixed in software. Basically, we need a software update or two.
My HTC 8X eats up battery really fast.
With light usage im down to 5% after about a day.
With heavy usage, 1hr browsing and about 50 texts i go from 100% to 10% in about 6-7 hours.
About the same as my 2yr old Omnia 7
I'm glad these issues are being brought to light as very little is being mentioned about battery life at the moment. As the Jones has said it can be fixed with software updates. 1800mah and a 4.3 slcd2 hd display should be a decent enough combination to get a good day of usage with minimal drain. The One X has exactly the same size battery and the screen is half an inch bigger. The One X has a fairly decent battery life so there is no way that the drain is down to hardware. Funnily enough my current phone is the One S and my battery life is fantastic. When I'm not using my phone the drain is virtually non existent. I hope they fix this battery drain issue and I hope it's soon. The lumia 920 has the same issue so it's definitely WP8 and not the phones. When more people get windows phone 8 devices by the end of the month I think the issue will come to light. So you guys with the 8X would you recommend it? I'm considering selling it and my one s so I can buy an HTC One X+ I'm not sure though. I haven't recieved my 8X yet but If the battery drain is that bad and the phone isn't great than I'm probably better off selling it before I even open it so I get the maximum amount of money. I really hope it's a good phone so your opinions will be really important to me.
The battery life on the Nokia 920 is awesome with a capital A. There seems to be no idle drain to speak of. Best battery of any phone I've had and I've had the galaxy s2, the note 1 and note 2. Very happy with it. Got 19 hours the first full charge with moderate to heavy usage.

That's very interesting actually. There are mixed reports on the Lumia 920 as well as the 8X on battery life. You're the first person I've seen that's said the battery is fantastic for any of the wp8 phones. I'm so confused wether it's worth me even opening my 8X when I get it or selling it straight away. Guess I'll have to wait and see if they bring an update to fix the battery drain.
I have had the 820 for a single day, after full charge I used about 55% in 10 hours. Half hour gaming, hour or so of music and 2 push email accounts. Pretty heavy Facebook and twitter.

Battery life so far seems about average, I get between 16-24 hours per day with moderate usage. Just depends on whether I'm using wifi or LTE. Lumia 920
This is a hard one to answer, Out of the box the phones eats power like a monster. I had to charge 2 times in the day then again over night on my first day. So I decided this was not going to do and turned off a few things and put the screen to auto. Now I get a good days use. The facebook app is a real drain unless you turn off notifications. That said this is then in a way crippling the phone. I guess they just turn it up to the max to look good when you first open the box etc. Also note you get nothing like the storage ie I have lost almost 6gb before putting anything on my device. Might watch the battery issues and if they are still bad see if I can trade in for a lumia 920.
I have a Lumia 920. Saturday and Sunday, it did great on battery life. Yesterday and today at work, it's been about like my 2-year old Focus - eats up the battery if I'm at my desk. Signal is very weak inside the building here and it's cutting in/out and frequently searching, so I attribute it to that. (I was hoping LTE would penetrate better into my office, but it doesn't seem to so far). The phone does seem to do well so far on battery life when I'm in an area where it just has a good strong signal and isn't searching all the time though.
First day after a full charge and I'm down to 33% after about 7 hours. I'd say moderate to maybe heavy use. I wish there was a battery usage section like android has.

This is a hard discussion to get any useful comparison information between devices, I don't know what one person may call "light", "moderate" or "heavy" use means and how that compares to how I would use those words. Hopefully one of the bloggers will do a controlled study between the different WP8 devices. As for me, I'm using the HTC 8X. It's now 1:40 p.m., my phone came off the overnight charge at about 6:30 a.m., I'm at 73% battery life. I had 1 incoming call I don't know if I even picked it up or how long it lasted (does WP8 give me length of call data anywhere?), a bunch of texting, read a fair number of Outlook emails, looked at FB, looked at weather, running Wi-Fi and bluetooth, and updated some apps.
How would you rate that battery?
i got my lumia 920 yesterday, and the battery life is okay. my Samsung galaxy S 2 with 2100 mAh battery has a better performance but its still k.
With normal usage i run about 8 houers.
I have turn off location service on my Lumia 920 and I have 60% battery after 13 hours, yesterday with same use but location turned on I just had 15%...
Hope this helps

I know its apples to oranges but hear me out.
I have nexus 4 and Nexus 7 both on 4.2.2 and both on the latest Motley kernels. Both are rooted and that's it. neither is over clocked and both have the same exact apps installed sans tablet apps on the N4 so my N4 has less apps installed than my N7.
i charge both devices over night. both devices are set to use WIFI and WIFI is set to ALWAYS ON even during SLEEP.
i unplug both devices and leave the N7 at home.
take th N4 to work.
I dont touch the N4 at all on my 15 min drive to work.
i get to work pull it out and it shows down to 98% already wtf?
my N7 i get home and it still shows 100% fully charged and i play with it browse XDA and after 15 min is still shows 100%
I took my N4 and flashed it back to stock 4.2.2 and stock kernel.. everythign stock. did not root it.
charged it back up to 100% and removed form charger.. i check the phone in 20 min and its down to 99% already and i havnt touched it..
whats going on?
i know the N7 and N4 are both different, different battery capacities and different chipsets but my N4 should not be dropping down from 100% in 20 min when I havent even touched it.
oh yea one last thing..
my N7 is set to sync everything..
my N4 i uncheck syncing on everything except GMAIL, CONTACTS and BROWSER and have NO widgets on any home screen.
so very frustrating...
I have better battery stats installed and i see nothing weird for wake locks or partial wake locks.. nothing more than a few seconds even and no weird apps showing as a battery hog.
You have to think, the N4 is running an extra radio, as well as a different CPU anyways, and its 2100 mAh, versus >4000 on the N7 just like you said, don't expect it to stay on 100% forever with WiFi and Data going and the N7 only having WiFi.

While you're driving your 4g network is enabled which will drain your battery more. Your nexus 7 is always on wifi. Also your nexus 7 4375mAh battery whereas your nexus 4 has a 2100mAh battery which also makes your phone to lose juice faster.
I would never expect similar standby times out of the two, given the modem and just over halfed battery capacity of the 4... But having said that, for regular browsing use, they provide surprisingly similar screen on time for me! I usually get 7-8 hours out of the 7 and 6-7 from the 4... Gaming splits them again though, I usually get less than three hours of 3D gaming from the 4 and more like five hours out of the 7. All in all, not a bad showing from either, Android battery life has finally reached what I would define as reasonable.
I have seen ten hours from my Nexus 7 where usage has predominantly been video playback, but that's an exceptional usage case which is obviously an optimal scenario for the LP core in Tegra 3.
I understand but my n4 dropping from 100 to 98% in 15 min with screen off directly off charger is ridiculous.
Right now its at 23% with battery showing 5 hours since unplugged and only 1.5 hours screen time. That's nuts.

You have to consider that while you're driving around with your phone in your pocket it is changing cell towers which uses the radio and consequently battery.

1.5hours screen-on time means something is wrong. That being said 2% after a bit of driving isn't abnormal, and it's never going to be the same depending on where you drive where you live where you work etc reception wise, but 1.5hours of screen on @ 2x% battery totally is fubar'd.
Check your battery stats for wakelocks, find whatever naughty app it is you have that's doing it. Make sure Location History is off if you haven't already checked this!
100>99 or 100>98 means nothing.
The battery monitoring is clearly not linear.

Let's hope Kirin 950 is efficient because with the right setup, Mate 7 does well and I see no reason why Mate 8 should be much different.
See how Mate 8 owners compare, once the phone is in your hands and rooted etc.
I run LeanDroid and Kinscreen, phone is rooted and Google de-bloated.
Here's where my Mate 7 was at this morning.
the biggest worry is as always the modem...they drain a lot battery.
not many people think about it since it is "hidden" statistics

People with extreme long battery stats are usually those who use wifi only..
normal usage include 4G. I use no wifi only 4G.
The best apps for battery life?
Running on lenovo,Huawei mate 8,Note5, S6
Epic battery for me yesterday, first full charge, performance mode on all day, 19 hours up time with 6hrs39mins screen-on and 11% remaining when I turned in for bed. Looks like 7 hours screen-on over a full day should be doable, in a straight line I would think 8hrs+.
Similar again yesterday, 18hrs on battery, 5hrs 20mins screen-on, 23% battery remaining.

Your battery life does not say us anything unless you are using wifi or 3g/4g ?
you would see that in the mate 7 thread people using only wifi would get very superior screen on time while we normal people using 4G
would get more realistic battery life around 4-5 hours.
I hope you do not use wifi since that consume a lot less power as you might understand, and the modem
is a "hidden" battery drainer which is not shown in battery statistics ( I wish it did )
Mostly on WiFi, but if I contrast with other devices we can still make a meaningful comment.
My Note 4, in the same use, would not reach 4 hours of screen-on time. Neither would the 6P that I had. The P8Max would hit around 5 hrs.
So far the battery life here is best I have experienced on Android.

IF you have been using mostly wifi I would be little bit worried about the battery life when using 4G for data.
Also the software is still in early phase ..so big improvements can be made still in most areas.. battery life and camera etc.
battery life also depends on your usage pattern concerning apps. independent from wifi vs 3g/4g ull get far less SOT if u use cpu/gpu intensive apps all the time. so a direct comparison with other devices from the same user with identical usage patterns makes sense

Mind posting more screen shot of battery life of your usage? I am very interested. Battery chart + sot. Thanks.
I'm sure with time and people getting their hands on the phone, battery life will only improve. I avg 1d 4-5 hours with 6-8hr sot on my note 3 with 4g but the phone has been out for a long time
The Note 3 had pretty good battery life, from memory when I moved to Note 4 there was a reasonable regression there.
After a couple of charges and latest firmware update my battery life has been stunning. Yesterday/day before yesterday I went 36hrs on a single charge and had 6.5hrs screen-on. That's totally unprecedented on Android for me. Today I am down to 60% and have had 4.5hrs screen-on. For me at least is a new high bar for Android battery life.

Yesterday's battery report - 18hrs on battery, 7hrs20mins SOT, 17% remaining (another hour and a half or so or SOT for general use I would think). Indoors, WiFi, low screen brightness etc, but nevertheless destroying every other Android I've ever owned. Spent 50mins playing some emulator games towards the end - Wipeout Pure (PPSSPP) and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (Gamecube game in dev build of Dolphin). They got the phone warm and were, as you would expect, much heavier drains than browsing and so forth (probably more so than higher end native Android games as they stretch the CPU as well). For those interested Path of Radiance played seemingly perfect for the first level proper of gameplay, overclock set to 0.2.

No, sorry if that was unclear, that's a change in Dolphin itself. I'm a bit in shock at how well Fire Emblem is running on a phone.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Nokia 8 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
6 hours SOT from under 100% to 20% on first full charge WOW!
Thankfully battery on Oreo seems on par
Can't complain about that. Twice what my HTC 10 would usually manage. :good:
It just keeps getting better and better. Release Oreo already
thanks all for posting the results .. i might get one
Basing off accubattery app in playstore, sot is at 6hr 55m. For a 3090 mha batt, its remarkable already.

Got 7:22 at 20%, this was all on wifi at home but with LTE on. Lots of installing/configuring apps, a bit of GPS/ingress, lots of twitter/web browsing/etc.
I'm getting about 4- 4 1/2 hours on LTE.
WIFI on, but not connected,
Bluetooth connected to hands free.
About 30-45 minutes of calls.
Skype, whatsapp, hangouts running in background.
Playing some games.
Loads of driving, so signal changes all the time.
Edit:it looks like SoT is getting better after few more day.
Now I'm getting over 6 hours in exactly the same conditions.
These are my best numbers. I noticed that phone calls and camera are the most draining apps. Usually I don't play games, sometimes async multiplayer games like Scrabble or similar.
Wifi ON if a network is avaliable
Bluetooth always ON (FitBit)
LTE enabled
Brightness automatically over 25%

Hello
Anybody here bought the Leapbook can give me a review about the battery?
I bought Innjoo leapbook A100 32 days ago, and it performed very good,
However starting from 15 days ago, it is turning off suddenly when I’m using it.
I think it is a battery problem; I observed and noticed, at first it did so when the battery is at 45% or less, probably after 7 hours internet usage. Now it do the same after 4 hours usage and the battery is charged 70%
In the leapbook description it is written that the battery should work 10 hours normal usage, so why it is acting like this when the laptop is 32 days old only? It is still brand new. The battery is becoming worse and worse in a short period.
Beside that, I noticed a red dead pixel in the right side of my screen, which indicates low quality screen was used in that device.
I don't recommend this device for anyone...
Please share your reviews.
